SMCWBR14S-N4 Router - Laptop With 150mbps USB Wireless Adapter Only Runs At 54mbps
Feb 7, 2013
I have an SMCWBR14S-N4 router, and I'm using a usb wireless adapter that says it supports n, and promises speeds of 150 mbps. My signal strength is excellent, yet my speed is only 54 mbps. This is the only wireless connection on my network, I have 2 PCs connected at 100 mbps, and a Dish DVR connected at who knows what speed.
I've been trying to read questions and answers from others online, and I keep reading that ISP speed plays a role. How does my ISP's speed affect my wireless network's speed? (Plus, I run speedtest.net all the time and my download speed is usually 260 mbps.)
But my question is simply why is my speed so low and what can I do about it?

I bought a new system case, installed everything from the old case added 2 additional fans and now my wireless network speed dropped from 150 to 54 aand I have no clue why. New case has a bottom mounted PSU and old had a top mount so netcard sets about 4" higher then it used to but other then that nothing has changed. Also when I brouse thru things I noticed this "LocalSystemNetworkRestricted" allot of places and do not remember seeing this before, I have used a different system to check out my router and it is same as always.
Im trying to install this on a Dell Demension 4700 with win xp professional, I get as far as the setup, but can't go any further, the software wont let me set up any wireless.
I am using my Iphone 5 as a personal hotspot at home. It gets LTE so my speed is very fast as compared to satellite service from HughesNet. My laptop downloads at 12 mbs and uploads at 5 mbs versus satellite which is about 1 mbs. However, I installed a Linksys N300 usb adapter on my wife's workstation and it is actually slower than 1 mbs. The workstation is about 4 years old running on Vista. I have tried the usb adapter in all four usb slots with no change in performance.
I have a TP Link TL-WN722N 150mbps USB wireless adapter I use with my desktop. I've had it for about 6 months and it has been mostly fine with a few little problems. I recently went away for a few weeks and when I returned I found that my wireless adapter is running very slowly and disconecting from the router. It is an adapter problem as no one else in my house is having the same issues. When the adapter does run slowly the only way to speed it up is to unplug it and plug it in again. This puts it back to a bearable speed but usually this drops within 30 minutes.
I just installed a WRT320N for someone's home network, with the intent of providing better speed for network printing.
Unfortunately, all four of his n-capable Windows computers will only connect at 54mbps. Four different computers (Win7, Vista, XP), each with a different brand/model of n-capable network adapter.
I suppose I could try setting the wireless to n-only instead of "mixed". However, he's got a couple g-only devices as well, so that wouldn't work.
I tried updating the firmware to latest/greatest - no effect.
My E3200 is having issues with keeping the speed up on wireless G. I'm about 20 feet away from the E3200 and there is 1 6in wall between me and the E3200. My connection will not hold 54Mbps, its constantly dropping to 36Mbps, even down to 5.5Mbps faily often. Around 30 feet away there i will lose internet connection yet my laptop says excellent connection to wireless.

not getting advertised 150Mbps speed , only getting 72Mbps installed the latest firmware TL-WR740N_V4_130104 and the performance is so bad that i cant even use skype anymore , the main reason to buy this router was to move from 54Mbps to 150Mbps but not sure what is wrong , how to achieve that 150Mbps speed
i'v recently bought a WAG120N for my home and set it up after that i checked that my wireless link speed on my laptop is 72mbps instead 150mbps after a few googling ive found that 150mbps is only avalaible on 40MHz radio band but in setup page i only found 20MHz.
My brand new E3000 runs very hot compared to other (e.g. Netgear WRT624 Super G) that I have had. It get so hot that the hard surface it is on, and the underside of the unit itself, is almost too hot to hold. Is this typical for the E3000 and also other E-series? Won't this characteristic lead to early electronics failure?
I currently have a 802.11 G router of 54mbps (its claims its a super G 108 mbps tough). My notebooks have 802.11 N built in. Im thinking of upgrading my router to a 802.11 N 300mbps.However, I know that this may be irrelevant unless I have a internet conection that can achieve such speeds. So how do I test my internet speed to see if G is bottlenecking?
There are 2 XBox's in the house and 1 is downstairs wired into the WRT320N Router. The upstairs XBox is running wirelessly through the router. Each of the XBox's work fine playing Modern Warfare 3, when only one is playing, but if both of us are playing, the wired connection works great, while the wireless connection is really slow and laggy. Again, the wireless XBox runs fine as long as the wired XBox isn't also playing MW3.
My D-LINK DIR-628 Wireless N router always runs at G speed. I have two computers on it, each with a Wireless N USB adapter. Yet the most I can get is 54 mbps speed. Could it be an Android phone accessing the wi-fi and slowing everything else down? What speed can a My-Touch 4G run at? Maybe that is not the cause anyway..
I have encountering a problem with a new installation at my clients side recently. We have a 5508 wlc and a bunch of Laps connected to it.Recently we associated a 1142ap to the same controller. The issue we are facing is that , the client laptops that are connected to THIS ap are showing maximum of only 54mbps in their network information dialogue box.Initially i couldn't understand why this could happen. But after a bit of research , i came to know that this could happen because of ``unticked`` data rates in the controller , or because of not using wpa2 with aes as the security standard for N-series access points. Now i have enabled all data rates in the High Throughput section as well as enabled the correct encryption standard. But still the issue persists. We have checked with multiple laptops , to rule out the possibility of a faulty n/w card
How to hook up my laptop to put in my wireless wi-fi mimi card .show me what plate on the bottom of my laptop to open email address removed to prevent spam
i am trying to connect my laptop to my 360 and use it as a wireless adapter. i cannot for some reason do it it tried to bridge but wireless network goes away when the bridge is created.
why I would get only 54mbps on an 802.11n connection with laptop sitting right next to the router with 100% signal strength according to the router? Setting are mixed mode: 802.11n & g, Enable channel scan, Best Transmission Rate, Auto 20/40 width.
Could it be due to WEP security (need to use this for my kids Nintendo DS to connect)
I don't care about getting 300mbps like a lot of other are talking about. I just want more than 54mbps!
I am using TP-Link TL-WR740N as mentioned. Now I have a problem. In side my LAN I have four different PCs listening as Telnet Server at port 23. I want to create a telnet session over Internet with one of my PCs at a time. How should I do this? I mean what IP and Port number I should use to connect to my desired PC since all of my PCs are showing same public IP and that is of my router's IP.

I have upgraded to the openwrt firmware in my router. I am having some problem to use it because I dont have the GUI access. Anyway I want to revert back to my original firmware. I cant use the internet through my router. How to revert back to the original firmware
I have a weird problem. I bought recently a new router, and when I try to connect to the settings on it on http://198.168.0.1 it sometimes works, mostly doesn't. When I ping other devices which are connected it, it's the same; sometimes get a response, mostly I don't. The router model is: TP-LINK 150Mbps Wireless N Router TL-WR740N, The thing which it's connected to is entitled "ADSL2+ Ethernet bridge router" That aforementioned thing is suppoused to be a modem. But, when I try to connect to its settings from http://10.0.0.138 , I'm able to, and other who are connected to the network give response to a ping.
I'm using an Acer Aspire 5532 and just recently set up my own network with my Cisco WRT120N router. I used the installation disc and set up a WPA password, named my router, and my network. For the installation, it seemed I could not even start without physically linking the router to my laptop with the included rollover cable. I finished that, and ever since my wireless adapter has been disabled. Whenever I attempt to enable it, I get an error; my laptop shuts down and I'm presented with blue screen. The only way I've been able to get back to normal is to reboot in safe mode and than do a system restore.
I have a v6000 laptop that just will not connect via wireless for no apparent reason it just decided to not work. I can connect using cable but not wirelessly.
I want to add hoc to my laptop in order to share internet connection with my cell phone so I'm searching under network center to share computer-to-computer internet connection ,but this icon didn't appear and I don't why. I really want internet to my mobile
I am trying to set up a Tenda 150mbps wireless Ap/Router.Im trying to set it up to use it as a range extender.I followed all the directions. I put it in wisp mode. Even before I did the latest firmware flash I couldn't select short GI under Advanced Wireless - it was simply greyed out even though WMM was enabled above it. Now after a factory reset and recreating all my settings I still can't select it.
