Im trying to install this on a Dell Demension 4700 with win xp professional, I get as far as the setup, but can't go any further, the software wont let me set up any wireless.
View 2 RepliesSo the other afternoon we had a freak power outage, my PC was on and connected to a surge protector. So once the power came back on, literally like 5 minutes later, I rebooted my PC and have had Wireless issues ever since. My PC is custom built with a Netgear WG311V3 PCI Wireless card in it. When I boot up, it tells me I am connectied to our wireless network, but no websites will load. I check for wireless networks but my PC tells me none are in range. I have had this issue before so I goto Network Connections and Disable Wireless Network Connection 2, my wireless card, and then when I goto Enable it I get this error: Connection Failed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an SMCWBR14S-N4 router, and I'm using a usb wireless adapter that says it supports n, and promises speeds of 150 mbps. My signal strength is excellent, yet my speed is only 54 mbps. This is the only wireless connection on my network, I have 2 PCs connected at 100 mbps, and a Dish DVR connected at who knows what speed.
I've been trying to read questions and answers from others online, and I keep reading that ISP speed plays a role. How does my ISP's speed affect my wireless network's speed? (Plus, I run speedtest.net all the time and my download speed is usually 260 mbps.)
But my question is simply why is my speed so low and what can I do about it?

I built my first computer today (woot!) but I'm having issues using my netgear N300 usb adapter to access the internet.
I am using a DLink router but for some reason I am getting some weird issues.
First of all, after using the netgear usb adapter, my mac address is something like E0-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx with the xx being the other numbers. Is having a macaddress starting with E0 wrong? All the other 5 devices on my router have mac addresses starting with 00.
Secondly, I am getting a 169.xxxxxx ip address. This is really starting to bother me because I can't set it up using DHCP.
I upgraded processer, ram and mobo, clean install vista ultimate wg311v3 wireless card, all signs and data shows im connected to the internet. But i can't get to any webpage.. i downloaded sp1 and sp2 on a diff computer and put them in but no luck.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought a new system case, installed everything from the old case added 2 additional fans and now my wireless network speed dropped from 150 to 54 aand I have no clue why. New case has a bottom mounted PSU and old had a top mount so netcard sets about 4" higher then it used to but other then that nothing has changed. Also when I brouse thru things I noticed this "LocalSystemNetworkRestricted" allot of places and do not remember seeing this before, I have used a different system to check out my router and it is same as always.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using two desktops. One is an old Windows XP running SP3, and the other is a new Windows 7. Neither PC is wireless. I set up the modem through the Windows 7 computer, and it is connected to the wireless modem through the Ethernet cable. (I hope that I am saying all of this correctly.) It's running just fine.Because the other PC is not wireless, I purchased a NETGEAR wireless USB adapter, go through installation and setup, starts and finds my SSID, add WEP key, etc, etc. In the bottom corner of the software it says the signal is good. In the toolbar it says the adapter is connected to the modem.Next to it, though, the network connections icon shows:
Wireless Network Connection
Speed: 24Mbps
Signal Strength: Good
Status: Limited or no connectivity
And so, of course, I have no connection to the Internet. Using the modem through Ethernet on the XP computer (switching the situation around, in other words) is not an option; the only phone line for connecting the modem to the wall is too far away.(It was stated more than once that I should use WPA instead of WEP; I haven't made it that far yet... I'm just trying to get this other computer connected.)
My Netgear adapter will not join the wireless network and keeps timing out.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy friend has had constant issues with his wireless network using his dated Linksys router. So he finally decided to upgrade to the Netgear N750. It's a dual band router that simultaneously broadcasts 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. He setup the 2.4 band for the laptops and mobile devices to access, and the 5 band just for gaming on his xbox 360 Slim. He immediately ran into a problem. The 360 slim's built-in wireless card only picks up 2.4 GHz frequencies. To remedy this, he purchased Microsoft's xbox 360 wireless-N adapter as it can pick up 5 GHz frequencies. However, there was no change after plugging the adapter into the 360 slim. His HP laptop can see the 5 GHz network just fine, so we know it's being broadcast. Could it be the xbox is out of range of the 5 GHz band? Is the adapter not functioning properly with the 360 slim?

The wireless connection says 100% but when I ope IE and yahoo homepage comes up it only stays connected for a sec and it says "unable to stay connect, do you wish to work offline" then it automatically put in offline mode, which doesnt work. Now it's saying IE cannot display webpage.

Unfortunately, all four of his n-capable Windows computers will only connect at 54mbps. Four different computers (Win7, Vista, XP), each with a different brand/model of n-capable network adapter.
I suppose I could try setting the wireless to n-only instead of "mixed". However, he's got a couple g-only devices as well, so that wouldn't work.
I tried updating the firmware to latest/greatest - no effect.
My E3200 is having issues with keeping the speed up on wireless G. I'm about 20 feet away from the E3200 and there is 1 6in wall between me and the E3200. My connection will not hold 54Mbps, its constantly dropping to 36Mbps, even down to 5.5Mbps faily often. Around 30 feet away there i will lose internet connection yet my laptop says excellent connection to wireless.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased a Netgear WN3000RP wireless extender.The security setting on all devices on the existing network show as WPA2-PSK wireless n but the extender comes up as WPA-PSK wireless g although the instructions say it will copy existing security settings.There is supposed to be a Netgear website to log on to an installation wizard but this doesn't work and appears not to have worked for some months.Why are Netgear still selling this device without an installation disc when they must know by now that their site doesn't work?Is there any way to alter the security setting of the extender?

My friends computer is still able to use the internet though.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using is the Netgear WNDA3100v2.What happens is when I attempt to connect to the internet I have to reset the adapter multiple times before it even recognizes my internet. And then once that happens it takes a few more tries to actually connect. And when I'm connected the speed is fairly decent (around 15-30 Mbps). Problem is, every 5 minutes maybe even less, I disconnect. Then I have to go back through the process of restarting the adapter and whatnot until I reconnect. I've been dealing with this problem for a few months now and have neglected to post about it anywhere because I didn't think it to be this unique.
I have tried just about every other "solution" I could find on the problem and none have worked. Also, if this says anything, I have a laptop setup literally 1 foot or less from my desktop and it connects perfectly well and good using the same adapter. Also I recently purchased another adapter (Linksys AE3000). I figured this might solve my ailment but of course, the same thing happens as the Netgear, except possibly worse. And that adapter works fine on the laptop as well. I also just yesterday completely reformatted my computer hoping it would work, but of course didn't. [code]

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm finally upgrading my internet from my currently pathetic 1.5 mbps to a robust 20 mbps cable connection. It's getting installed over the weekend and my question is, should I try to place the modem close enough to my pc for a direct ethernet connection, or will wireless be fast enough to take advantage of the full 20 mbps? I have a linksys wireless-g wrt54g router. It says it's 54mbps so it should be far beyond my cable speed. My adapter on my pc is a Netgear WNDA3100-100NAR dual band usb 2.0 wireless N adapter that claims up to 300 mbps. So it seems like I should be able to achieve the same speeds wireless or wired, but really don't know much about networking other than basic router setup so wanted to double check. It will be a bit of hassle to try to route the modem into my computer room as I don't have any lines run there currently. If I place it by the tv and go wireless it's a lot easier setup.

During the Configuration if I have no security set up on my network, the 3300 establishes a connection. If I however, turn any form of security on ( WEP, WPA-PSK [TKIP, WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] ), the Connection fails. No security is not an option.
This happened while switching routers. The 3300 worked fine on my D-Link Wireless G router (WEP). I was wondering how to resolve it.?
I have encountering a problem with a new installation at my clients side recently.We have a 5508 wlc and a bunch of Laps connected to it.Recently we associated a 1142ap to the same controller.The issue we are facing is that , the client laptops that are connected to THIS ap are showing maximum of only 54mbps in their network information dialogue box.Initially i couldn't understand why this could happen.But after a bit of research , i came to know that this could happen because of ``unticked`` data rates in the controller , or because of not using wpa2 with aes as the security standard for N-series access points.Now i have enabled all data rates in the High Throughput section as well as enabled the correct encryption standard.But still the issue persists.We have checked with multiple laptops , to rule out the possibility of a faulty n/w card

I'm using Qwest internet with Actiontec PK5000, and I have to use my Netgear WNR2000v3 as a repeater.The Netgear is working as a repeater however I can't get internet through the LAN connections on the repeater. After checking the settings over and over again I'm beginning to think the repeater will only work with wifi. I need to hook up my desktop in the office, DirectTV, and Blueray player LAN connections to my repeater.
