View 1 RepliesI live in an area that has no cable or dsl internet available.The only options are basic dial up or wireless internet through one of the cell phone companies.Right now I use verizon with a usb adapter.I have had this since moving here.It gets good speed and I share it witht the other 4 pcs in my house through a 5 port switch using windows xp's ics(internet connection sharing)We mainly use the internet for playing games together online.Recently though i have wanted to upgrade to a wireless network.I feel as if I 'm living in the stone age because everyone else I know is using wireless.Last night I went out and purchased a netgear n750 duel band router(model number wndr4000-100nas) after reading several guides online about how to set it up.It sounded easy enough but after 3 hours I still could not get it working.
Here is what I am trying to do.I want to basically turn the router into a switch by disabling it's routing function and let the pc that has the verizon wireless card be the host and hand out ip addresses to the other pcs.(like it is doing now)Problems I am having
1- keep getting the work offline popup when I click on anything in the router control panal(it say you are not connected to the internet would you like to connect or continue to work offline I hit work offline and it just pops up again when I click something else)
2- I think I found how to change the router's ip address and disable DHCP under lan controls but when I hit save it pops up saying I need to manually change my pc's ip address and it will not save.
I am using winxp32 sp3 and right now 5 gigabit wire lan cards.(though if I get this working I'm going to pick up wireless card for 4 of the pcs.)
I need to configure WAP4410N wireless access point for our company guest and visitors.i need them to only surf internet and not to go to LAN (servers).I think i need to create VLAN for this ? can any one tell me setting for configure only to surf internet thru WAP4410N ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat I want to do is set up file sharing on both of my laptops so that they can share files both ways between them. I have in total 6 computers on my home network, and would like to limit the access to both to just the ones I want. I got about halfway before I hit an issue. My Windows 7 Ultimate is sharing both of its drives to my XP Home laptop, while being password protected for access from the other computers on my network. My XP Home Laptop cannot be shared without all the computers on my network having access too
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 however, the other 7 all have Macs. What is the easiest way to set up file sharing so that all 8 of us can have secure access to a hard-drive so that we may all access music, pictures, and files specifically stored to that drive only. We do not want to grant each other access to our internal drives, only a network drive. I would like this shared drive to be secure.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIm in the process of trying to setup a home network. Computer A and Computer B are in the same workgroup. Username/password are the same.
Computer A = Windows XP sp3
Computer B = Windows 7 sp1
The two computers can communicate on the network. Can ping back and fourth with ip and computername. Computer B can access from what I can tell the whole C:/ drive from computer A. Doesnt ask for a password or anything like that. Just works the way it should.
However, I cant figure out how to share the C: drive from Computer B with Computer A.
Computer B
Click on C: >> Properties >> Sharing
And this is what i see on the sharing tab
It looks like its shared cause i see the \inteli5c. But when i go onto the other computer I cant access it. This picture doesnt seem to want to work. But that link is the screen that comes up when i try to access the C: from the opposite computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a small office (7) people and I don't have Active Directory setup. I'm wondering what is the best/easiest way to setup a place on a network server for the team to connect and put files that will then be backed up. With Active Directory this used to be a snap but I don't have much experience outside that realm. Here is how I'd like it to work:1) I login to server as admin, create the individual folders that users can map to. Example: Software Downloads, Jason, Robert, Billy, Carol2) I'd like to be able to set the security on the folders to say that everyone can view certain one but Jason can't view Roberts folder etc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I was using my Linksys router, I had no difficulties setting up Windows File Sharing on my computers but since I upgraded to the DIR-655, file sharing have hardly worked. Sometimes I could get one of the computers access files on another, but not the other away around. Most of the time, none of the computers have access to the files on any of the other computers. Two of the computers run Windows XP and another one runs Windows Vista. All computers are on the same workgroup and able to connect to the internet through the router. When calling D-Link tech support, I am told that they dont support file sharing and that I had to contact each computer's manufacture's tech support on the instructions on setting up the file sharing (each computer is from a different manufacture). One of the tech supports did drop the slight hint that I needed to recreate the home network, but when I tried to do that, all I could find is the settings to connect to the router (which I had set up when I installed the new router) and to enable file sharing (which is already done) and to assign the workgroup, which they were all are already assigned to the same group.

What else should I include on this configuration to allow for a hot spot where the user logons and must authenticate themselves via a secure web browser before going out to the internet. Next question would be how to increase the security of the device and the AP.

I've purchased a wmp600n pci adapter january this year and installed it with no problems and did not encoutner a single problem with it until today. I use windows 7 64bit.
I've just came back from a 3 week absence and turned on my computer for the first time since i left. I notice that I have no wireless connection. So i go to network connections and realize that my wireless adapter dosent even show up..only my lan card. So i check my device manager, and under network adapters, i can see my wireless adapter, but with an exclamation mark next to it. I check the properties, and under the status box, it gives me this message.Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device. To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update. (Code 35).
So i do what it says, and flash my bios to the latest version. After the update, I check the device manager, and the error message is still there. I check my wireless adapter driver version and it is v3.0.2, which is the latest version according to the linksys driver download webpage. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the adapter but no luck there. I also checked to see if maybe there was a problem with my pci slot and that was not the problem because I was able to use my older wireless adapter.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to access my system from internet. My network scenario is as follows;
Internet ==> DSL Modem(s) ==> Load Balance ==> Gateway Firewall ==> My PC DSL 1 : ZXDSL 831CII (Fixed IP)DSL 2 : HG510a Load Balance : TL-R480T+Gateway Firewall : pfSense (BSD)
The problematic PC is AMD triple core, with ASUS M3N78 motherboard and xp professional. PC should connect to internet through the router, TP-Link TL WR340GD, along with 3 other PCs which are all working fine. Basically, the PC caught a virus and I performed system restore. After that, the PC was working fine, except that there was no internet connection. I tried to reset winsock from command promp, but that did not sort the connection problem.I noticed that the yellow light on the back of the tower, for the ethernet cable connection, is yellow when the cable is not plugged in, however, as soon as I plug the ethernet cable in, the light disappears. The same cable is working fine when connected to other PCs so it does not seem to be the cable problem. The information in Network Connections says Limited or no connectivity. Full messages when prompted says: "You might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. The problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer.To restart the connection and try to establish full connectivity, cliick Repair." and then, after clicking repair, it says:"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:Renewing your IP address.For assistance contact the person who manages your network."I also tried to release and renew IP address from command promp, but that did not work either.

I needed to do a full system restore because one of the windows system files got corrupted.After the restore, my internet connection was extremely slow. Also I tried the dongle on my work laptop at home and it's fine.I'm using Windows XP. I've tried everything suggested at Slow Computer/Internet AFTER complete system restore but it is still slow.

I recently downgraded to a DSL system and now have problems connecting to the internet. I was asked to disconnect my router and the problem seems to go away. After reconnecting my router it may be fine for a day or two and then the problems start again. Internet drops off while using it or I get a message saying "web page not available because DNS lookup failed. If I bypass my router at this time I can connect. Both my laptop (wireless) and my desktop (Ethernet) are having this problem.Norton Connect Safe is also in use which assigns its own DNS addresses.
