Dlink DIR 615 / Good Router For Controlling Internet Access

Feb 21, 2011

I have a Dlink DIR 615 , I can never get it to manage the time correctly, even without any down time the time always goes off by hours or days. I tried using an NTP server option... 3.ca.pool.ntp.org but it doesn't work.... so I am not able to schedule the internet effectively router that they have that keeps the time and allows them to control the Internet access that would be good. My kids are teenagers so sometimes it is like talking to a wall trying to get them to control their internet, I can easily block them entirely as I have Mac filtering set, and I will do this, but I would like to not have to constantly check to see if they are online which is easily done with Ipods.

Cisco WAN :: Controlling Router Via SMS By EHWIC-3G-HSPA

Apr 21, 2013

I need to make some perfomances (like up/down GRE tunnels) on Cisco ISR 2921 by sending SMS. It could be doing by using 3G modem like a Huawei and a server with some expect/SSH-scripts.

But ISR gen.2 has EHWIC-3G modules, which working with GSM networks and they can send/recieve SMS. I think, that it should be an EEM event or some another way to track comming SMS and process it by TCL-script — get a sender number, SMS body and make usefull perfomances on my router (up/down GRE tunnels in my case).

If I done this trick only by using an ISR router and EHWIC-3G module, it will be much more stable scheme in that we dont have extra components (server, modem) potentially may falls.

Unfortunately, there are too low information about configuring this modules (especially, SMS-part) and I dont find usefull for me.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Controlling Device Access On Network

Feb 6, 2012

I have a new audio/video receiver that has Apple Airplay functionality built in.  Now the Airplay allows any Iphone/pod/pad/tunes device/computer on the same network to route music to the receiver without plugging in the device directly.  Great concept but the execution allows any computer or iphone in my house on the network to take over my receiver with no questions asked and start playing.

So far I have failed to find a way to restrict or shut off Airplay on the device itself (other than disabling it's network).  If there is anyway through networking or my DIR-655 router to control/restrict this access?  What I would like in a perfect world is to keep all computers and wireless Apple I devices from connecting to the unit unless I allow it for that particular device/computer.  In an imperfect world I would accept just blocking wireless devices from it but still allowing them full network connectivity otherwise. Some things I have thought of - Can I use static addressing for the A/V receiver but put it on a different subnet then what my router is set to?  Is there some network control in the firewall that may limit access to the A/V receiver?

Cisco VPN :: 5520 Controlling Remote Site Access Through LAN-to-LAN

Mar 19, 2013

We have 2 5520 ASA's working in an active/standby function at our central site. The remote agencies have control of their ASA's or other devices able to create VPN tunnels back to the central site. When a new remote agency wants to connect to our central site we assign them a network range that is routable on the central sites network. We ask that the remote agency NAT into the addresses we provided them. This way we are able to route back to them. We assign the interesting traffic and then they we start communicating by way of the tunnel.

Since the central site can't control the traffic coming in on the site to site tunnel other than just defining the interesting traffic AND we aren't able to control the NAT on the remote end how can I put an access list on the central site ASA to allow only certain ports and IP's by way of access list?   Ultimately, I'm trying to limit traffic on the central site coming inbound to only allow traffic I want.  I tried applying a group policy to the lan2lan site to site tunnel, but it failed for some reason. It actually prevented all traffic. Can I apply a group policy to a site-to-site tunnel?

I'm struggling here a bit as I don't have control of the remote end.   They can NAT whatever they want to an address in the range we assigned them.   The tunnels interesting traffic is set to full ip to the central site's destination.  The interesting traffic on the central site is set the same. However, on the central side...I want to limit that traffic to only certain ports by way of an acl.  If it is possible to assign a site-to-site tunnel a group policy and filtering is done in that method, can

Controlling The Data Flow And File Sharing Between Computers Is Slow?

Aug 14, 2011

I have 2 computers in my room which between them i very frequently share files between. Wirelessly they were both connected to my home's router until recently the router was removed, but will be back soon. The problem though, was that with using the router, file sharing between those computers was slow, and with the router gone, I was lost because there was no movement of data between the computers whatsoever, I had no crossover cable, but plenty of regular ethernet cable. Than I remembered something about gigabit lan not needing crossovers(both of the computers being gigabit) and I connected them, and marveled at the new way to share files. And more by the exponential boost in speed(800kb/s to a grand 12mb/s{though I still think that is slow for gigabit.}). Obviously I've overcome a problem, but that's not where this story ends, it comes with another problem. When the router is reconnected to these computers, will the files still transfer through there new found direct connection? or will it attempt to go through the router, only allowing me to get the speeds I want when one of these computers isn't connected to the router?

No Internet After System Restore

Jul 31, 2011

The problematic PC is AMD triple core, with ASUS M3N78 motherboard and xp professional. PC should connect to internet through the router, TP-Link TL WR340GD, along with 3 other PCs which are all working fine. Basically, the PC caught a virus and I performed system restore. After that, the PC was working fine, except that there was no internet connection. I tried to reset winsock from command promp, but that did not sort the connection problem.I noticed that the yellow light on the back of the tower, for the ethernet cable connection, is yellow when the cable is not plugged in, however, as soon as I plug the ethernet cable in, the light disappears. The same cable is working fine when connected to other PCs so it does not seem to be the cable problem. The information in Network Connections says Limited or no connectivity. Full messages when prompted says: "You might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. The problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer. To restart the connection and try to establish full connectivity, cliick Repair." and then, after clicking repair, it says:"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:Renewing your IP address. For assistance contact the person who manages your network."I also tried to release and renew IP address from command promp, but that did not work either.

Internet Very Slow After System Restore

Jan 27, 2013

I use a dongle from my ISP as my main internet connection source. I needed to do a full system restore because one of the windows system files got corrupted. After the restore, my internet connection was extremely slow. I restarted the computer and I got my normal fast speed but only for about 10 minutes and it is now very slow again (about 10 mins to load Google home page, for example).Internet speed was never an issue before the restore. Also I tried the dongle on my work laptop at home and it's fine.I'm using Windows XP. I've tried everything suggested at Slow Computer/Internet AFTER complete system restore but it is still slow.

Can't Connect To The Internet After Downgraded To A DSL System?

Nov 5, 2012

I am using Win XP and am hardwired to a router (NETGEAR N600 WIRELESS DUAL BAND ROUTER WNDR3400). This was connected hardwire to a cable modem and I had no problems. I recently downgraded to a DSL system and now have problems connecting to the internet. I was asked to disconnect my router and the problem seems to go away. After reconnecting my router it may be fine for a day or two and then the problems start again. Internet drops off while using it or I get a message saying "web page not available because DNS lookup failed. If I bypass my router at this time I can connect. Both my laptop (wireless) and my desktop (Ethernet) are having this problem.Norton Connect Safe is also in use which assigns its own DNS addresses.

Cannot Connect To Internet After Virus / System Restore?

Apr 23, 2012

I have Windows Vista. So I had a virus that was making it impossible for me to open a web browser without it starting a fake security scan and spamming my screen with multiple browsers. I had no other choice but to do a system restore since I had this problem in the past and a system restore fixed my computer. But, after the system restore, I can connect to the network using a wireless, but when I try to open any browser(firefox/internet explorer) it says internet explorer cannot display the webpage or server not found on firefox. I've tried resetting my internet settings, but no luck. I also don't have an internet security anymore since I was trying to install Kaspersky, but kept having trouble installing it properly.

HP 735n Desk PC - Can't Connect To Internet After System Restore

Mar 4, 2011

I have an HP 735n Desk PC running Win XP Home with SP 2. It reached a point of only starting under "Safe Start" so out of final desperation, I used (F10) System Recovery. The computer is starting AOK now and I have recaptured a lot of data by uninstall/install of programs where I'm told "Your Data Has Not Been Affected". However, when I reached the point of needing to reconnect to the internet VIA a wireless home LAN utilizing a D-Link DIR-615 (ver 3.21) Router with (1) computer connected thru a USB Adapter WUA-2340 (all working fine) I reinstalled a USB Adapter DWA-125 (ver A1) {Which had been working OK} and I get message "No Internet Connection Available" altho' all other indicators are "GO" The Device is working properly and net work indicators are all showing the D-Link USB Adapters on both my Compaq (with Win 7) and the HP (with XP) are working. I have worked on computers for years and never needed to do a System Recovery before and I have NEVER had any trouble getting on a network nor the internet before. REMEMBER, the HP W/XP CANNOT BE USED TO DOWN LOAD. It won't go on line! I can use my Compaq if we can make CD's, DVD's, or Flash Drive copies of anything needed for transport to the HP.

Cabling / Cards :: No Internet And DNS Not Responding After System Restore?

Aug 22, 2011

I was having a problem with my computer so I did a system restore to fix it.It failed the first time. I also disabled my anti virus first. I tried in safe mode and it worked. So obviously something stopped it from working though I'm not sure. Anyway when I logged back into my account my wireless connection said I had no Internet access and the troubleshooter said the dns server isn't responding. I don't know how to fix it. I've tried updating the driver, uninstalling/reinstalling the adapter, enabling/disabling it, connecting/disconnecting from the connection, trying the connection in another account as well as safe mode and nothing has worked.

Dell Dimension 4300 - How To Secure Windows ME System Connected To Internet

May 26, 2013

I am about to re-install Windows ME on an old Dell Dimension 4300. The computer is connected to the internet via a 2Wire 3600HGV DSL modem/router.

Do I need a software firewall? Or is the router sufficient? Is antivirus software necessary if I don't download anything? It will be part of a local LAN, so I don't want to jeopardize any of the other PCs on the home network.

NOTE: I'm looking to run some older (non-DOS) computer games that don't run well (or at all) on XP and newer systems.

NOTE 2: When I say 'secure', I'm not looking to actively browse the web on the machine. I was curious as to what risks I be facing if I simply had this PC connected to my local network (and thus the internet).
