ON WINDOWS 7 every 30 minutes or so i notice that "turn off network discovery and turn off file and printer sharing keeps resetting to ON" this is odd? i have to keep going and turning them off manually all the time.
View 2 RepliesThere are 3 laptops in my house including mine, and i keep losing network/internet access every couple of minutes so I have to go to the router, unplug the device, and plug the device back in every couple of minutes, usually 10-15, although it varies, and the same has been going on with the two other laptops, so it's not just my laptop.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy team has installed a 1905 series router at one of our offices. It has been connected through lease line to our servers at our head quarters. When we start internet access it slows down and subsequently it hangs. When we log into the router and start verifying its configuration it hangs after some time. We have replaced the router but the other router is also behaving in the same way. the possible areas and settings I should look into including lease line connectivity.
View 12 Replies View RelatedMy desktop is connected to the internet via cable modem, then to my laptop via network bridge between the LAN and wireless NIC, then through to the laptop via wireless ad hoc network.
The problem I'm having is that my laptop loses connectivity every 5 minutes, though it doesn't show a dropped connection. The desktop does not show any connections to the current network at anytime, however I still get connectivity on the laptop albeit only 5 minutes at a time.
I have, on both systems, disabled power saving for the wireless and wired connections; and also that they have the most current drivers.
It does not have to be idle to lose the connection either, I can be in the middle of something when it drops.
My computer connects to an unscured wifi near my home and i have internet acces for a few minuets, then it just stoppes. Sometimes if i reconnect it will run for a few more minuets 5-10. I have tried two different computers with same results. about a month ago the connection worked fine. This just started recently.I can connent and access internet at other public places with no problem. It seems only this network i have trouble with, why?I am running XP on one, and Win 7 on other, same results.I have read alot of things and tried them all,
-resetting internet options
- changing tcp/ip
- system restore with no results.
When I try downloading from fileserve it starts downloading and after maybe 3-4 mb it stops for no reason also in JDownloader it starts and after 3-4 mb it says no permission to write to hard disk all other filehosts are working fine and all other downloads work perfect.I'm using ESET smatr security but I'm disabling Web access Protection and the firewall is set to learning mode so all attempts of any application to connect to the internet would be allowed

I've tried another website (Tech Guy Support networking forum) and I've come to a dead end. I though maybe that a site more dedicated to networking. but in the interest of saving time and making sure I've got everything formatted correctly, I have a few pictures that will clarify what is going on as well.
I'm at wit's end with diagnosing the problem and I don't know what else to try to get my network to stop acting up. my internet will disconnect sometimes for a split second, for a few minutes or for hours at a time. My boyfriend and I have directly connected his computer to the modem, and the internet is working. I have also called our ISP and asked if there are any problems on their end, and our modem is working fine with no issues. So we had come to the conclusion that our router was at fault. It was a Linksys E1500, we investigated online and found that many people had the same problem and it was solved through buying a new router. We have since bought a new router a D-link N150, it worked for a week and a half, but now our internet is back to disconnecting randomly throughout the day. We have tried resetting the router back to factory settings to an avail.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis problem only seemed to arise after messing with my MTU a few days back to 48 so I could play an online game with lower ping, but have since changed it back to 1500.Since then, my internet has been slowing down every 30 minutes to an hour and won't speed back up until I reset the router and the problem continues after that.I've fresh installed Windows 7, updated the Firmware on my DIR-636L, changed my DNS multiple times, unhooked my DIR-636L and have been only using my SURFboard SB6141 modem and the problem has yet to be fixed.I took a Netalyzer test and here are the results. I use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection.Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses.When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.

When it disconnects and it can't get back online on it's own, I have to pull the power plug and plug it back in. My sister in law and I are sharing internet since our houses are about 100 feet between each other. We are using one modem, and two routers. All we did was just plug the second router to the first router and it worked! We didn't configure anything in the router control panels, we basically just plugged and play. When I try to, I get an error message saying "Windows cannot access Laptop A".It then gives me the option to diagnose the problem (I'm using Vista on both laptops, by the way). When I click that, it gives me the error of "Cannot communicate with Laptop A. We pinged the remote host but did not receive a response".Laptop A is connected to the network according to it, it can access the internet fine and can access other laptops on the network fine. There are three up-to-date Windows Vista (Home edition, I think) laptops on the network all of which connect wirelessly to the router/modem. The network is password protected (for security purposes I turn off network discovery. And I don't use file sharing between the laptops). In other words, I have three laptops connected to a common wireless Internet connection (the router/modem). I also have a desktop computer (that I use for projects and gaming), but I don't have a wireless network adapter nor a long enough ethernet cable to connect to the router. I don't have any technical problems connecting to the Internet using a crossover ethernet cable. It's just impractical as I have to dismantle the whole desktop computer system (printer, monitor, scanner, etc etc) and carry it to a different room within cable distance of the router every time I need to update the software or activate a new application.

That would be fine, but the router SAVES the device that was used. So even if I disconnect all 4 of the devices currently using the internet, I can't connect with a new PC.I tried removing power to the router for 30 seconds but it didn't work. I still can't connect with my PC. I can't reset the router because my ISP put a custom firmware in it that locks me out, so I'd have to be a couple days without internet and that's not acceptable. So I decided to use a LAN cable to share the internet from my laptop to the PC.Problem is, I get that little yellow icon and when I move the mouse over the connection it says "Unidentified Network". File sharing is working but I just can't connect to the internet on the PC.

We have a server running Win XP with two folders, one for the teachers which is password protected and the other for the students which doesn't require a password. Up until two days it has been working well. However now the server keeps disconnecting from the internet quite randomly which stops us from connecting to the shared folders.
I've noticed that a caution icon appears next to the ethernet icon in the task bar when this problems occurs on the server. I have tried to right click and choose the repair option but it tell me that it cannot resolve the ip address. In some cases rebooting the server resolves the issues but in many case it doesn't.
They have a locked Cisco Router which is from the ISP and its confed on a fa 0/0 interface to share Internet access on the network. The ip on that interface is 195.198.11.217 255.255.255.252 and i tried it with a PC (set my personal ip to .218 and entered their dns info (195.67.199.27) and it is working. The question is now. My friend found a 3550 laying around and since the ISP wont let them conf their router he wants to use the 3550 to create 2 vlans with internet access and without access to eachother. Vlan 10 for the desktops and Vlan 20 for the wireless (Moving on to some netgear wireless switches) How would you configure the 3550 for this to work?
View 23 Replies View Relatedi am trying to set up a cisco 2950 with a vlan to seperate all of the pos machines on the network (4 of them) from all other machnes in the building (3 hard wired and wi-fi). i was going to use vlan 1 as a trunk to allow internet access to go from fa0/1 to both vlans (vlan 10 and vlan 20). i have read things about the acl having an explicit deny at the end, so i'm thinking that is my problem. i am testing it at my house before deploying it to the network. i have 1 laptop setup with an ip of 192.168.0.50, and the other is .60. my router is 192.168.0.1. i have the ethernet from the router plugged into fa0/1, the 1st laptop on fa0/2 and the other at fa0/3. before i set the vlans up, i checked the communication by just plugging them in and trying to ping, they could both ping each other, the router and 8.8.8.8. when i finished setting up the test vlans, they could not ping each other(what i wanted) and laptop 1 can ping the router, and 8.8.8.8. laptop 2 cannot ping anything.
the only thing i did was create vlan 10 and 20, set port fa0/2 to vlan 10 and no sh, fa03 to vlan 20 and no sh, fa0/1 to vlan 1 and no sh. then i did switchport mode trunk on fa0/1, and switchport native vlan 1. this seems to be how i was supposed to do it, but it's been a while since i have worked with switches. i'm sure it's simple, but after searching the internet and poring over my cisco books for 5 hours, it is turning out not to be the case. here are some details:

I support an OU in a large university domain. Myself and one other user are the only people experiencing this issue in an OU comprised of over 20 machines.
I live in an apartment and I am forced to only use the apartment's internet service to go online. There are two ways to access the apartments network; via ethernet port or wifi. Once im connected and try to browse, I will first be taken an http login page to enter my username and password. The problem with this is I can only use the username and password for one computer at a time. Trying to get my second laptop to access the web using the same user and password will give me an error saying it is currently being used. As I have two laptops (work and personal), I would like to share the internet connection using a device that will allow either or both machines to connect simutaneously. What device will I need?

The connection allows only one device to run on one login name. I need to share this connection with my other device by turning my laptop into hotspot or thru ethernet. I have tried using Virtual Wifi Miniport and Connectify. I have tried LAN also. But I encounter the same problem in all the cases. As soon as I turn on internet sharing thru the properties of my public wifi connection, the Virtual Wifi or the LAN turn "Unidentified" and there is no internet on my other device. I even tried using a usb wifi adapter to connect to public wifi and sharing the internet over my laptop's adapter and vice versa but to no avail.

Trying to create a network for file sharing, as have upgraded the 'server' (part of a Workgroup, not a Domain) from WinXP to Win7 and experienced problems ever since. Ironically the problems haven't mainly been with sharing files between Win7 and WinXP systems, but between 2 Win7 systems. I bought a new Win7 laptop and tried to connect it to the server, but it hasn't had Read/Write privileges over the files in the Win7 server. Entering a username and password to gain access to the servers folders has not been a problem, and as far as I know, opening files such as documents has not been a problem either. However, when trying to save an edited document, access is denied, and if I try to open an executable file (this is necessary for a node installation), it prompts me for a network password. Every combination possible of username and password from the 2 systems (including '' or 'SYSTEMNAME' before the username) has not worked. I tried syncing the times which was apparently a previous problem, but to no avail. I am unable to access Local Security Policy, as the server is running off Home Premium. I have tried creating a new workgroup, removing and changing passwords, enabling guest access to the network through the Windows Resource Kit Command Shell, creating identical users on both computers, but nothing appears to have worked.
