2nd PC is a Desktop Alexs-PC connected via cable to the same router/modem
I can share all the shared folders from the Desktop to the Laptop, but I can only share Media streaming on the Desktop from the Laptop, so I know there is a connection between the two computers. I have now turned off Media streaming to concentrate on just folder sharing.Whenever I try to access the Laptop from the Desktop I get an " Access Denied you do not have permission contact your administrator " box on the desktop.

(2 much 2 ask for both)
Main Issues
--Will NAS work with PS3?
--Incase of a computer, i know i will be able to use logmein or gotomypc to Download files directly to that machine even when im not home and when i do get home its ready to go. Can the same be achieved with a NAS?What else should i consider? i.e. pros and cons of both.
I am trying to establish a connection with an already existing IPsec VPN for file sharing. I click on the icon and get error messages when I type the correct username and password. I also entered the shared secret key correctly. I do not know where to enter the "group" name that coincides with the key I was given.

View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to create a network for file sharing, as have upgraded the 'server' (part of a Workgroup, not a Domain) from WinXP to Win7 and experienced problems ever since. Ironically the problems haven't mainly been with sharing files between Win7 and WinXP systems, but between 2 Win7 systems. I bought a new Win7 laptop and tried to connect it to the server, but it hasn't had Read/Write privileges over the files in the Win7 server. Entering a username and password to gain access to the servers folders has not been a problem, and as far as I know, opening files such as documents has not been a problem either. However, when trying to save an edited document, access is denied, and if I try to open an executable file (this is necessary for a node installation), it prompts me for a network password. Every combination possible of username and password from the 2 systems (including '' or 'SYSTEMNAME' before the username) has not worked. I tried syncing the times which was apparently a previous problem, but to no avail. I am unable to access Local Security Policy, as the server is running off Home Premium. I have tried creating a new workgroup, removing and changing passwords, enabling guest access to the network through the Windows Resource Kit Command Shell, creating identical users on both computers, but nothing appears to have worked.
View 1 Replies View Related[code] Basically, we used to use Outlook for our customer management, but after I tried to design a custom form for customers that suited our needs better than Outlook's default form (i.e. we don't need state, country, region, etc. for each customer, and we'd prefer to have spots for Roof, Shingle, Shingle color, etc. in their place), we ended up turning OneNote into our new Customer Management System. Our problem is sharing files, and the security or lack thereof that goes along with it.We used to save all the files to a single computer, and use Windows 7 Home group to access them. That worked okay, but often we couldn't see the file-holding computer, and would have to disconnect/reconnect to the internet.
We recently bought a NAS HD, which actually works a lot better than I expected. Unfortunately, we've learned recently that new employees are not always the most trustworthy. So this is what we are trying to do:We want to set up some type of way for us to save, store, and access files, which allows us to keep track of who has done what (access, save, copy, delete, print, etc.), preferably one where we can set up alerts if certain things happen (i.e. someone copies and pastes the entire thing, or attempts to delete). We've run into the problem where, yes, we want people to be able to copy and paste certain documents, yes we want people to be able to print, but no we don't want someone to be able to print out our entire customer lists, current project lists, etc. This NAS HD (MyBook Live 2TB by Western Digital) could quite possibly have the most ridiculous set up I've ever encountered. I can set up accounts and passwords, but they are completely irrelevant because from "Computer" you can just select the z:/ drive and it will still take you to our files. We just brought on a couple new people, and its like, everyone tells them to come to me in regards to the computers, and I can't even hook them up to the internet because it would give them access to our network, which in turn gives them access to our z:/ drive, which contains every file our company has.

Music folder, my documents etc. Now I've moved I have had a new netgear box supplied by virgin media (which I call virgin media 7) which because of the shape of the building doesn't reach my bed room. To fix this I have had to connect my old netgear box (which I call virgin media 8) to the new one via 10m of CAT5e but now I can't access my shared printer or shared folders on my win xp pc which is connected to virgin media 7 via wireless if my vista laptop is connected to virgin media 8. View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my home LAN I have computers running Ubuntu 10.10, Win XP, Win7 32 bit and Win 7 64 bit, as well as an Iomega Home Network Media Drive. I can share files and folders between Ubuntu and XP without problem. I can CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) to the Iomega device from all the computers. I can share folders when using the 64-bit Win 7 computer that are located on the XP computer.
I can see the 'users/Public' folder on the 64bit Win 7 computer from the XP computer (but that folder being empty, this access is not a lot of use - a secondary probelm). I cannot see my 'user name' files/folders on the Win 7 computer from the XP computer
From Computer, Network on the Win 7 computer I can see the Ubuntu computer by name (approximately - it's all in upper case, which is not correct as far as Ubuntu is concerned).
I cannot access files on the Ubuntu computer via its name - I receive the usual 'network path not found' error, inviting me to check the spelling of the computer, which I can see is wrong, but which I can find no way to correct.
If I try to access the Ubuntu computer by IP address, then I am presented with an 'Enter Network Password' panel. I have never allocated a network password, so I have no idea what user name or password to enter here. If I enter my valid account name forthe Win 7 machine, along with its valid password, then a Logon failure is reported: 'unknown user name or bad password'. If I use the single valid user name and password for the target Ubuntu computer, I receive the same failure message. I thought I had set the same user name on both computers (I certainly have the same password), but for reasons best known to Bill Gates, the username on the Win 7 computer has been initially capitalised, making it absolutely not the same as any valid user name on the Ubuntu computer.
So, in short, I can find no way to access the Ubuntu computer from Win 7. Further more the Ubuntu computer cannot see the Win 7 computer in the windows network at all.
I have the same internet security software (Comodo) running on all Windows computers. It is enabled on the XP computer. It is disabled on the Win 7 computer - but with no effect on the failure to connect.
I have Dell Inspiron 15 3520 laptop bought in December 2012 with Windows 8 Pro. It was working fine until two days ago. I am unable to obtain DHCP lease either through wireless or wired network. View 2 Replies View Relatedrecently i was trying to share files between two computers using a networking switch.(windows xp) I tried using network setup wizard on the host computer it only gave me two drive options f drive and the floppy disc drive. so i selected f drive to copy files. I inserted a cd and clicked next but nothing happened. i tried clicking format button and it asked me to 'insert a cd to f drive' so I avoided the format button. My computer has a backup system which someone installed and im not too sure about it so I was wondering if f drive was referring to the backup system (sort of looks like an external hard drive with lights on it connected to modem) or maybe referring to usb port. I did not try using my usb yet. The second pc I noticed did not have network setup wizard on control panel and was not sure if i needed it. I heard that a router has a firewall and is more safer than using a networking switch. at this stage i dont need internet connection for the second pc

The other is a Gateway w34OUI running XP Media Center. Both are in great condition for their ages. Good for them. I really want to network the two with an RJ45 crossover cable, and all the instructions I've found on our illustrious internet tell me it's easy. HOWEVER, when I've only begun to follow those instructions (one list is from the God Microsoft itself), NONE OF ANY of the sets of instructions matches the steps offered on either one of these notebooks. The options do not correspond. The results do not correspond. The closest I get is a window that says I do not have access to such file sharing. These are MY computers, and have always been, and I am attempting to network using administrator ID logins on BOTH. What's the REAL way to network only two notebooks with an RJ45 crossover cable?
