In my office there is a small network with 5 PCs. A long time ago one network engineer had connected 5 PCs to 8 port switch via IO box. Now two IO box connectors are not working. The IO box he set, now not available. The available IO box connectors do not match the color code with the old one. In which positions those 8 wires of the CAT5 cable will be punched into the IO box connector? understand the color code of IO box connector to get network connection. The CAT5 Cable color code in RJ45 jack, attached to switch, is as below :
Pin 1 : White/Orange
Pin 2 : Orange
Pin 3 : White/Green
Pin 4 : Blue
Pin 5 : White/Blue
Pin 6 : Green
Pin 7 : White Brown
Pin 8 : Brown
Which wire will be connected to which pin of IO box connector? I saw different positions of color codes in different IO box connectors.
is it possible to assign a loopback address to a typical switch port on a 2950 switch? I want to be able to have some devices connected to a switch to test access lists and VLANs.
I need 10gigbit uplink for this switch. What are the other devices that i need order along with this device. And what is the diff between X2-10GB-LR= and CVR-X2-SFP.if i take CVR-X2-SFP, in future how can i upgrade from one gig to 10 gig?for current use i need 10gig support required. so what are all the other devices that i need to order.Fiber multimode and distance 15Mt only.
I have a problem, i would like todo MACSEC betwwen two switches cisco catalyst 3560-x but I know that for this operation i needed ACS server 5.1 is it possible to encryp dataflow without ACS server and if you have the configuration
i have an issue to connect a trunk between cisco switch and extreme switch i have many vlans that i want to cross via a link between cisco 3750 switch and a Extreme Alpine 3800 switch
I have two 3750-X configured to be a stack and I am planning to re-rack these somewhere else. What I would like to know is what are the effects of having the master switch itself lose power? Does it immediately just make the member take over master (there should be no election since there are only 2 switches??) and there would be no loss of connectivity?
I have a Catalyst 4006 switch in production and a spare switch of same model. I have to quickly copy the configuration from production switch to spare switch (both L2 and L3 configurations) How do I do that?
I have a 2 cisco switches that are at different sites one is a Cisco CAT4500 and other 3560. The connection between the switches is a layer 2 fibre link. CAT4500 and 3560 both have VLAN interface ip addresses in order for me to connect to the switches.
I have PC A connected to CAT4500 and PC B connecting to 3560. All these devices are the same VLAN and in the same subnet. I do have trunk links all the way though allowing this vlan as we run vlans. From PC A, I can ping CAT4500, 3560 and even PC B. This tells me everything is fine regarding Layer 2 & 3.
As soon as I move PC B and connect it to the other switch CAT4500 or move the other PC vice versa (this happens in both directions). Both switches learn that the mac address has moved locations and updates its mac address table accordingly. So when I do a show mac address table and show arp, everything has learned and moved fine. However when I try to ping any other device from PC B I cannot. So the 3560 switch PC B was originally connected to, I can no longer ping, the switch cannot see the pc also. It is as if PC B has not learned anything from the switch and cannot respond or reply to any icmp. I have tried this with different end devices, same thing. I am now thinking it has something to do with the switch.
I have a unique requirement.I work in a SAN environment.I have my host connected to a MDS/cisco switch. The host has a HBA(not sure of what speed). The HBA is zoned with a backend storage through a switch.I know the IP of the switch, now can i know the speed of the switch? Also can i koe the speed of the SFP in the switch?
I have this ARRIS router from Comcast that actually blocks some ports, so I can't use certain programs. I noticed this cause when I played this game, Ragnarok Online, I googled that it needs to open certain ports for me to login. Another would be my CoD, where I need to open some ports to join certain games.
Then I told my roommate that we need more LAN ports for our xbox, ps3 and TV. So we used this old router as a switch. At first, we used 1 of 4 LAN ports of the ARRIS Comcast router to the "Internet" port of the old router, so we thought we would have 4 more LAN ports provided by the old router. First day, it actually worked, and I was surprised that some sites aren't blocked, and I can login to Ragnarok Online. After some time, it stopped working, so I googled it then it says I have to Disable DHCP, use an IP address that's not used by the ARRIS router, then plug in the cable to 1 of the 4 LAN ports of the old router, not the "Internet" port. I did, then it worked again.
It did work as a switch, but how come it worked before where no sites/ports are blocked? To sum it all up, is there a way to make the switch (old router) work when I plugged the cable on the "Internet" port?
I'm the sole IT worker at this company and I specialize in everything but big, corporate networking so here's a dumb question. How do I determine the IP address of one of our two switches? I need a list of MAC addresses of connected devices so I can relabel all the cables that were mislabeled (and this is a managed switch). For the other switch, which was put in by someone who knew what they were doing, you just type ss3900 into a browser and tada, 3com Superstack 3900 login so apparently someone did some fancy DNS stuff or whatever.
For this HP Procurve, the idiot before me who got fired for completely screwing up everything didn't leave any documentation or labeling and didn't use the same IP address as the Cisco switch that was pulled out. Obviously the switch is invisible to my PC from an IP standpoint
I have radio link where i work. Connections have been made to other pcs with an 8 port switch. from that switch i have extended another wire which is nearly 90 mts. that connection iss again connected to several pcs and working fine. But i have again extended another wire of about 90 mts from the 2nd switch. All other connections are working fine on the second switch but there is no light on the switch for the extended one.. Where have i gone wrong? Do i need to place repeaters instead of the second switch??
I want to use my dlink Dir-655 router as a switch or a wireless hotspot, the reason is that i have to use a modem and a router for my network provider P2602HWT is the model i have to use, is there any way i could do this, right now when i try to use the dlink router as a switch after 5minutes the network stops working until i shut down the dlink. Also the router i have to use only has 3 100mb ethernet ports, the Dlink one has 4 gigabit ports. Any way i could use my dlink as a wireless hotspot and a switch without conflicting with my other router?
I have a second hand CYBERCOM PC with a creative 802.11g wireless network adaptor. I can't get it to see or connect to a my wireless router. Is there a switch on the PC like on my laptop.
What is the command switch (the letter/s that you use withsign after the command) that can be used for displaying the per protocol statistics with the above command
my computer doesn't have a COM port, so i connected an EthernetCOM cable to my laptop (ehternet end) and COM to the switch. Question now is, how can i establish connection?
I'm on my way of taking the CCNA Exploration, and even though I haven't got to the LAN Switching and Wireless course, one question does bug me. In your average LAN, does your average switch has an ip address, or is it a 'dumb' device like a repeater ? Is the same true for layer 2 switches and layer 3 switches or is there a difference in terms of IP addressing ? Can you even assign an IP address to a switch ? Would you want to do that and why ?
In my Company there is a core Switch 4500 series , to which in the 1st module servers are connected and in the second module 2960 , 3750 series Switches are connected, problem is that the Utilization of Core switch is very high and the core gets hanged. the configuration of the senerio is VTP domain i.e core is Server and the rest are Clients....
I have a 3560 here that doesn't seem to want to boot. What happens is plug the power in, SYS and RPS light go orange and the others are green for about .5 sec then all the lights go off and the SYS light flashes green 8 times and goes offThe fans on the switch are still running but no lights and no output to console.
My local DHCP server mis-assigns IP Addresses of 192.168.x.x to laptops every morning. It has been suggested that one of my print servers (two Fierys and a Creo) is pushing 192.168.x.x onto the network but I think I've ruled that out. have an XP Pro desktop running a standard Windows bridge that connects a wireless Netgear router to the local Cisco switch. This has worked flawlessly for a couple of years so I hesitate to blame the bridge. My remote IT dept pushed a change/update to all locations having to do with address lease duration. I do not know details. Is there a way I can identify the source of the problem if I do not have admin access to the DHCP server? The only local control I have is to cycle power.
I have an old XP machine with many useful but obsolete programs and history.I have a new Win 7 HP (home premium) HP Slimline.I have a KVM switch allowing me to control each independently through one keyboard and mouse.I have several external drives, DVD drives and a wireless mouse hooked to the W7 by USB.Each computer is wireless connected to Internet via a Verizon MIFI2200 (essentially a G3 mobil phone).I have no other suitable optioons for internet available in my rural area.I ran the network setup wizard on the XP and saved a copy to thumb drive problems:
1. The W7 computer won't recognise the setup.
2. The XP doesn't show the network I set up although no errors showed up.
3. Win 7 has removed any wizard and other programs from HOME PREM for setup a network.
4. I attempted to set up the W7 manually but it refused too alllow both computers to independently use the MIFI2200.I find all hardware works fine the way I now have iit configured, but I want to move files from old to new PC and I need printer sharing until I get organized. I also need access to an external drive to backup files and general storage from both compputers.
