I'm in need of a device which can switch to several items which has the same mac address. I heard that there may be devices that can handle this, by for example mapping fake unique mac addresses in the switch to each on of the same mac addresses on the devices, so when you try to send something to a "device with the same mac address" you send it to the faked address in the switch and the switch just forwards it.

What I need to know is how to add the IP address helper command to the switch?I have a number of IP phones which are not getting an IP address from DHCP (PCs which are diasy chained off the phones are all working correctly). On the higher end switches I would have added the IP address helper command to the VLAN and that would have sorted it. How to do this on the small business switch.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy ISP assigns IP's through a standard motorola cable modem via DHCP server. I can pay extra for a persistent IP which uses the MAC of my switch and assigns an IP. Is there a way to get multiple public IP address's from the modem using a switch? For example. Can I plug the modem into the switch and then plug a computer server into the switch and get an IP assigned to that servers MAC address and then also have another server attached to another port on the switch and get a different public IP for that servers MAC address?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been reading the postings on this site trying to retrieve the MAC address for the client devices (computers, printers) attached to our switches. We have approximately 500 switches and I need to map the mac address to the switch. It appears the OID information is for SNMP v2. We are restricted to using only SNMP v3. I have tried using the Cisco SNMP Object Navigator without any success.

I added a new SSID in VLAN 2 and I would like no to use the DHCP Server but to make the AP get an IP Address from the pool I created in the own AP (ip dhcp pool Guest) but every time I try to connect the new v lan, it doesn't get an ip address.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have some Ethernet-connected cameras that all have the same Ethernet MAC address FF:FF:FF:0A:0A:0A. They were originally designed to directly connect to a Windows PC, but they can also connect through a simple unmanaged switch.A Catalyst 3560 switch won't forward packets to or from anything with that MAC address, at least not by default. Is there a way to convince the switch to do so?
It was my hope to replace the dedicated connections we have for these cameras with a separate VLAN for each camera, and switch them through our existing switch network. Given that all of the cameras use the same MAC address, putting them on the same network is out of the question, but different VLANs, where the only two devices on each VLAN were the camera and the PC that uses it, would be fine.
The switches run IOS 12.2(55) SE through SE3. I learned the camera MAC address from the PC's ARP table while the camera software runs; it turns out the cameras don't have a full IP stack either and don't even do ICMP.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am working on Cisco 3550 switch on a certain requirement. I have got an access point connected to the switch and few mobile phones connected to the access point. I get the list of mac addresses connected to the switch ( Both access point's mac address & the clients addresses) by "show mac-address table dynamic" command. However, i am unable/confused to get the output of the following scenarios:
1. I would require to export the mac address from the switch to the local machine in any format (May be by using an SNMP tool, if available) so that the same needs to be used in my C# for development. What would be the way for the same ?
2. The mac address in the mac address table doesn't get updated dynamically. (Eg Scenario: A wifi client gets connected to an access point which inturn is connected to the switch, the mac address of the client shows up in the switch table. However if the client is disconnected, the client's mac address would still be displayed in the switch table )
Switch is a Nortel 5520
PC is Windows 7, with Intel 82579LM adapter
When PC was first attached to network, it could not ping gateway(switch). Turns out it was broadcasting for the gateway's MAC address, but never got a response. Tonnes of testing later, if I just change one number on the MAC address of the adapter, it receives a reply from the switch and can ping the gateway.
Why doesn't the native MAC address work?
Update: Just the vendor portion is the determining factor. As long as it starts with 2C-59-E5, it will not work. 2C-58-E5 will.
Update 2: Pinging anything in the same subnet works, just pinging the gateway interface of the switch doesn't happen. Tried on multiple drops, and there are other devices on those drops.
Can a layer 2 cisco 2950 switch be used as a dhcp server with it's own address pool.

I am having an issue where occasionally the Sidewinder starts to see my internal RFC 1918 address instead of the configured external address of my firewall. This is for peering between the two. The error they see on the Sidewinder is:So instead of seeing the external peer address he sees a 10.220.3.18 address. We are not sure what triggers this becuase normally he see's my 63.117.98.222 address.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an old ASA 5505, and I'm having some trouble with Nat Hairpinning. I've done this with other firewalls before and I am having no luck now. I have an internal address that I wish to forward from an external address- so if someone goes to 123.456.789.012:3456 then it will forward to 192.168.1.244:92 (All numbers are arbitrary here- only for illustration). I have and Access Rule and NAT and PAT set up so that I can get in if I originate from outside the LAN. What I am trying to do is to have this work from inside the LAN as well- so that if I am at my desk, and I connect a device and type in 123.456.789.012:3456, it will deliver the content at 192.168.1.244:92. The problem I am having is that it just isn't working, and I cannot figure out why- When I started here, there was an address configured to work this way, and it still works- I just cannot find what is different between what I am doing and what the person who configured it did.
