Cisco Switching/Routing :: Get MAC Address From Switch Ports With SNMP V3?

Feb 1, 2013

I have been reading the postings on this site trying to retrieve the MAC address for the client devices (computers, printers) attached to our switches.  We have approximately 500 switches and I need to map the mac address to the switch.  It appears the OID information is for SNMP v2.  We are restricted to using only SNMP v3.  I have tried using the Cisco SNMP Object Navigator without any success.

Cisco :: Network Address Translation On 6500?

Nov 22, 2012

We've got an application that is running on our LAN that is using IP addressing to connect to the server (they refused to use DNS).The server is now being moved to a VM which will be on a different subnet. The supplier is now concerned that there will be a big down time due to him having to reconfigure each device (about 100) with the new server IP. If the server was external I know I'd be able to do NAT on the FW to make this work but can it be done internally on my 6500s? I want to have the devices pointing at their hardcoded IP address off 1.1.1.10 and NAT the destination to the VMware servers IP 2.2.2.10? Is this possible using cisco NAT?

Cisco VPN :: 6500 Mode Configuration / Address

Jul 17, 2011

In an IPSec port to DUT scenario, with Mode-Config set so as the DUT sends the IP address to the port, I get to a situation in which the DUT continuously enter the "Need config/address" state for the port, even if the port sends its ACK packet to every set IP address from the DUT.

The DUT is a Cisco 6500 Version 12.2 (33) SXI3, having Mode-Configuration configured to provide clients with IP addresses from a local pool. I enabled the "debug crypto isakmp" on Cisco, and below is an extract form the log file:

5d23h: ISAKMP:(80653):Need config/address      /* My comments here: This is the first Address configuration message from Cisco to port */
5d23h: ISAKMP: set new node 1768971286 to CONF_ADDR
5d23h: ISAKMP: Sending private address: 94.94.0.164
5d23h: ISAKMP:(80653): initiating peer config to 171.159.1.113. ID = 1768971286
5d23h: ISAKMP:(80653): sending packet to 171.159.1.113 my_port 500 peer_port 500 (R) CONF_ADDR
5d23h: ISAKMP:(80653):Input = IKE_MESG_INTERNAL, IKE_PHASE1_COMPLETE
5d23h: ISAKMP:(80653):Old State = IKE_P1_COMPLETE  New State = IKE_CONFIG_MODE_SET_SENT

above debug messages that Cisco produces I can not realize why Cisco resends the IP adderss configuration message for remote peer. Any other methods to use so as to get the reason behind this behavior? Or any explanation to the above behavior?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Configuring 1941 With 8 Port EHWic Switch Module And Onboard GE Ports In Single LAN?

Can you configure a Cisco 1941 to use an 8 port EHWic module and the 2 onboard GE ports in a single LAN?

I've discovered you can't have the on GE ports associated with a VLan, and I'm when I've previously researched for a solution, bridging was mentioned but I cannot seem to get it to work (or completely understand it)The reason I would like to use all 10 ports on for the LAN is becuase I have 10 devices I need to connect to the 1941?

Cisco Wireless :: 6500 - DHCP Client Not Getting Address

Oct 31, 2012

Currently we're providing DHCP to wireless clients from a dhcp pool on a cisco 6500. Due to new requirements we need to move to windows 2008 dhcp and when I test this on an unused WLC (7.0.235.0) the client doesn't get an address.

When I do a packet capture on the client I see it requesting dhcp but not getting any response from the server. When I do a dhcp debug on the client I see the same (see attached file).

This seems to me to be a server issue but the same server is supplying addresses to wired clients.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 - Same MAC Address In Different VLAN?

Oct 31, 2012

The customer has 4 6500 switches.  2 Physical locations, and 2 switches at each locations.  The locations are connected via 1 200mpbs metro ethernet(layer 2).  We ran into an issue during a DR exercise.  We had created a VLAN for DR testing purposes, that did not have any SVI configured, but the VLAN did exist on one of the 6500s.  When the customer restored a VM to the DR VLAN, we lost connectivity to the production server.  After some troubleshooting, we found the cause to be the same mac address showing up, but in a different vlan.  Once we removed the DR vlan from the 6500 all was well.  It seems like switches are ignoring the VLAN in the mac address table, and forwarding to the incorrect ports.  The switch is not reporting any mac flapping in the logs.  No spanning tree topology changes are occurring.  Code version is 12.2(33)SXJ2 on all switches.

We also plan to run this command "mac-address-table aging-time 14400" to keep our ARP and CAM tables on the same aging time to reduce unicast flooding on our network.  Can we run this command with the "routed-mac" command above?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: DHCP Request Not Being Forwarded By Helper Address Same VRF 6500?

Feb 22, 2013

Version 12.2(33)SXI
 int vlan 1
description client vlan
ip vrf forwarding A
ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0
standby 129 ip 10.1.1.2
standby 129 timers 1 4
standby 129 priority 105
standby 129 preempt
ip helper-address 10.1.2.20

[code]....

dhcp requests are not making it to the dhcp server SAME VRF (ip helper-addres is not doing anything.....)extended vrf traceroutes on udp 67 sourced from vlan2 are fine

I am expecting udp unicast packets on port 67 "giaddr" relay packets on the DHCP server generated and sourced by the relay on Vlan1

eg. Mar  1 01:59:06.731: DHCPD: setting giaddr to 10.1.1.1

This exact setup works in our preprod environment with the same code.Only difference is we run Distributed etherchannel on the 6500's where this doesnt work.

Wireshark on the client I can see the requests being sent Going to check it with debug ip dhcp server to check the relay logs out of production hours.

I have seen so many people say it IS and ISN'T supported on this version of the code.e.g. [URL]

I am aware the helper-adddress should inherit the vrf of the interface ip helper-address vrf command is not supported. The fact it works in the PP environment.... could this be due to the Distributed EtherChanel difference? or just some bug....

Cisco Firewall :: 6552 Static Entries With Same Ip Address But Different Ports

Sep 15, 2011

Our proxy/anti-smap/IPS box called PROXY is behind our Cisco ASA firewall. The PROXY is set in transparent mode. The PROXY internal ip is 1.1.1.1 (internal ip)We have the MX record for mail.domain.com with public ip 9.2.7.5 (public ip as we entered with ISP public DNS)What happens now is that the emails that come through get "caught" by the PROXY and then we setup a thing whereby the emails are then forwarded from PROXY to our mail.domain.com server. Also, we made a static entry in PROXY whereby we can https to our email server for the outlook web access from outside of work therefore allowing for users to see the outlook web access web page.On the Cisco firewall, we put the static entry that 9.2.7.5 is mapped to 1.1.1.1 thus the mail server public ip is mapped to the PROXY.

Now, the box has this thing whereby it sends an email to all staff once a day telling them how many mails are legit, how many rejected and how many are spam - the spam emails are listed within the email and staff can at a click of a release button next to each spam email release a particular email from the PROXY box and make it to into their inbox.  This works fine from the inside network, but I have issues from the outside due to the DNS and other things.I also put in the PROXY that any network can release spam and that our staff vlan can release emails. Also, on the inside of the firewall we did an access list that computers from staff vlan can access 1.1.1.1 on port 6552 (Which is the release spam port).Hence, we can release emails from internal network through the Microsoft Outlook.

On the outside network, we cannot release emails when using outlook web access. The host name for the PROXY release spam is proxy.domain.com so what we did also today is ask "ISP" to make an A record entry for another public ip which is 9.2.7.6 for proxy.domain.com.We meanwhile made an entry on the access list that comptuers from outside can access 9.2.7.6 on port 6552 (which is the release port). Now the only question is in regards to the static entries:

1. do we (and can we?) static map 9.2.7.6 to 1.1.1.1 through a port 3840 on the Cisco ASA (although we have already mapped 1.1.1.1 to 9.2.7.5 - I have a doubt here as this might mean we might not get emails? Or would we have to do the static again for this one specifcying the 9.2.7.5 as an smtp entry and the 9.2.7.6 as a release button?

2. have I made a mistake in general and should I have just told the ISP to make a CNAME entry for proxy.domain.com with the public ip 9.2.7.5 (which is the public ip for MX record?)?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 To Have Internal Address That Wish To Forward From External Address

Jul 8, 2012

I have an old ASA 5505, and I'm having some trouble with Nat Hairpinning. I've done this with other firewalls before and I am having no luck now. I have an internal address that I wish to forward from an external address- so if someone goes to 123.456.789.012:3456 then it will forward to 192.168.1.244:92 (All numbers are arbitrary here- only for illustration). I have and Access Rule and NAT and PAT set up so that I can get in if I originate from outside the LAN. What I am trying to do is to have this work from inside the LAN as well- so that if I am at my desk, and I connect a device and type in 123.456.789.012:3456, it will deliver the content at 192.168.1.244:92. The problem I am having is that it just isn't working, and I cannot figure out why- When I started here, there was an address configured to work this way, and it still works- I just cannot find what is different between what I am doing and what the person who configured it did.
