View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to re-connect my home wireless signal to my computer. The wireless signal is strong and the other computers in my house will connect with no issues. My computer connected with no problems to my wireless signal at work. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Lenovo Idea Pad Win7 PC. The computer was connecting yesterday and then was shut down. The next time I got on, ,it wouldn't connect. I've tried re-establishing the network as a new network, but it says the network already exists. The profile is the same as our other computers and nothing has been changed there. When I disconnect from the wireless signal and ask to re-connect it says that the it is trying to connect, but can't make the connection. I'm looking for any way to re-build the profile so it will connect and work again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago my laptop started acting strange. I noticed when I brought my computer to my room (which is where i usually use my computer) it said that there were connections available where the signal bar is. Which is odd because it usually just auto connects. So i clicked on the signal bar and connected to my internet, but it lost the connection shortly after so I clicked connect again and it said windows was unable to connect to the router. Then shortly after that it said no connections were available. So i brought the computer to the computer to the family room ,where the router is, to check the router. It was nothing wrong with the router so I looked back at the computer and it was automatically connected to the internet with a five bar connection, but when i left the family room with the computer it immediately lost the signal. So i decided i should just stay in the family room. The next day the same problem occured and i went back to the family room to use the computer but i noticed the connection wasnt usually at five bars like it usually is wen im that close to the router but it was 4 bars or 3.
The next day i went over my fathers house for the weekend, and when im over there i pretty much always have a five bar connection even though im not in the same room as the router because im 1 floor directly above the router. Now when i used the computer over my dads house it had a 3 bar connection, disconnected from the internet at times, and when i try to connect bak it said that windows could not connect to router like it had said in my room bak at my own house, even though it always used to have a very high connection before this problem happened. So wen i got bak to my house i went to the family room to connect to the internet and now im having the same problems i had over my dads house. Now i try deleting some programs to see if they affected the internet and have even turned off some start off services on using mpconfig but that didnt work either
My desktop computer doesn't have a wireless card in it. i also have a laptop which does have a wireless card. I was wondering if there is a way i can take the wireless connection and re-transmit it to the desktop through ethernet. I have a 5-port switch. I don't really know much about networking. but i am knowledgeable in computers. laptop has windows 7 on it. i really would prefer to not buy a wireless card for the desktop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a computer that is directly connected to my internet broadband service via my router and modem. From that computer, by use of a router (of course), I have a wireless connection to another desktop computer in my home, about 90 feet away.From that remote wireless internet broadband connection, I'd like to connect to yet a third computer. That third computer will be 200 more feet away. I have a direct Cat5 wire from the wireless computer desktop to that point 200 feet away. I'm thinking of adding a computer at that point.So, that raises my question: Can a computer receiving a wireless signal, then relay or transmit that signal to another computer that is "hard wired" to it via a Cat5 wire?

Yesterday, out of the blue, my laptop stopped connecting to my home wireless signal.It detects the signal, but when I click on it to connect (something I shouldn't have to do, as it is configured to connect automatically), I get a message saying that it couldn't connect and suggests that the signal strength is low.I know that the signal strength is fine as I am connected just fine on my work computer.I can plug my laptop into the router using a cable and it connects just fine that way, so the only problem is with the wireless signal. I have restarted the computer, modem, and router, to no avail.

When I'm not connected to my wireless network, the signal strength is 4 bars (out of 5)Once connected, it drops to 2 bars. Speed is 39 Mbps. Why?I have updated the drivers (strangly, it says the drivers are from Ralink Technology. Corp, version 3.00.00.0041 built by: WinDDK)
Our house is located up a hill and a long way (1,400ft) from the main road and we always have problems with the signal dropping on our cable internet connection. According to the line tech's that have been to our house the problem lies with the 20+ year old cable that is being used to get the cable signal from the road box to the house
I am wanting to replace that cable but from what i have read so far is that cat 5/6 cannot go the distance i require
I have looked into going with a long range wi-fi but there is no direct line of site from the road to the house and there are a million tree's in between us and the road so its not really practical .we are not needing any major amount of speed, just enough to do surfing, streaming, and the kids like to do multiplayer gaming. 7-10mbps would be great for us, before we started having problems with the cable we were only getting 4-5mbps and that was enough for what we needed
I had a surfboard 4200 (motorola) and it worked fine for quite a few years but the speed would drop down for some reason every now and then (majory, from 250 KB/s to 50 KB/s). I bought a CM100 linksys but when I plug it all in it never finds the signal, the motorola still connects fine. I had the ISP delete my modem profile but it still wont connect, it wont even find the signal.

I get this new router TL-WR841N from amazon.com, I get no signal/internet connection on my computer when I install/connect the router using the installation min CD (same procedure at listed here: url...The DSL connection is good, since I get internet connection when I connect my modem directly (without the router) to my computer. I have a LAN port cable, and I have one end connected to the back of my router.Where does the other end go, so I can receive wireless internet connection of both my Toshiba Satellite Laptop, and Gateway Desktop. First I had the LAN port cable connected at the back of my router, and the other end was connected at the back of my desktop. A little green light lit up at the back of my desktop, saying that it was grabbing signal. I could use the internet fine, and my laptop could grab wireless signal fine as well. I was missing around my router, trying to see what mark it was, and the LAN port cable came off, and when I plugged it back in, i couldn't receive signal, and neither could my laptop. Now the only way I can grab signal is by connecting the WAN port cable from my modem to my desktop, which means I cant get wireless signal on my laptop. Now when I do connect my LAN port cable to the back of my desktop, I try connecting to my wireless connection, and when I go to Network and Sharing Center, it says Connected (With full bars).
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Motorola SB6121 DOCSIS 3 modem is connected to a Medialink n-band router. Sometime in the morning (usually between 7am and 9am, the router loses the ability to see the modem. I can access the router's control panel, and I see 0.0.0.0 for WAN IP, Subnet Mask, and Gateway. Primary and Secondary DNS server are both blank. Connection Mode is Dynamic IP.I lose the ability to access the modem's control panel directly (192.168.100.1), even though the PC I use is hardwired to the router. So, I unplug the modem, unplug the router, wait, plug in the modem, plug in the router, and everything works again.I've had more than twelve service calls. Every Charter tech looks at the line, puts in boosters, takes out boosters, replaces splitters, and seems to only look at signal. I've BEGGED Charter to let me speak to an engineer, because my suspicion is that it's something to do with the DHCP server.
I did, by the way, replace EVERYTHING.I have had 5 different modems...same problem. I have had 5 different routers...same problem, including a modem/router combo.I've tried different brands, too.I've disconnected all wifi devices from the router, and rebuilt my PC's operating system. I've even unplugged the refrigerator, because one Charter tech claimed it was "upstream noise."I've been online only a few times when the system actually goes down. What I notice in the router logs is this: [code] So at 9:34, no ranging response - T3 timeout, followed by Unicast Ranging Received Abort Response;
then the Cable Modem Reboot due to T4 timeout, and the system time goes to 1/1/1970 at midnight. No ToD.
The last piece of information: Charter installed a second modem as a "test." That was originally in the same room. A month ago they did another line from the box directly to the test modem to skip the splitter on the house.That modem shows the same problems, EXCEPT -- not perfectly in sync. I might see the same error, but the time will be a few minutes and seconds off. And sometimes I'll see the errors, but the modem won't go down.Sometimes the first modem goes down, sometimes the second. I'm accustomed to a router "healing" itself when the modem goes down.It might be off for a bit, but then will re-establish. This Medialink doesn't do that. It forces a physical restart every day. There are other outages too, and all I get from Charter is "the signal strength is good."
I live in a block of flats I decided to buy a proper router on 5GHz. I can see at least 12 wireless networks and all of them on 2.4GHz(mostly BT HomeHubs or other UK ISP wireless boxes). I study CCNA and our teachers recommend cisco routers(linksys) as the best ones. I bought a WAG320N as the best one I could find in the UK market for a fair price. The problem is, that I have less signal on 5GHz than on 2.4GHz. I have maximum 50% of signal on 5GHz and speed is usually below 802.11g, means below 64Mbps! I can't believe it. When I change it to 2.4GHz the signal has up to 80% like my old router TP-Link. The speed is mostly up to 65Mbps, means terrible. I have seen lots of topics about this particular router but I couldn't believe that Cisco sell such awful and unreliable products like this router. I have tried to change the channels on 5 and 2.4GHz but it's always the same, poor speed and low signal. My wireless card is Intel WifiLink 6200 Advanced -N and operating systems Windows 7 and Sabayon linux. I have a laptop and it is cca 6 metres from the router and there are 2 walls. The router is still under warranty so I won't hesitate to return it back to PCWorld.
