I want to purchase network powerline adapter such as a Linksys Powerline AV network adapter. Rather than run 4 network cables to the 4 devices I want to connect to the network can I run one to the location and then use a switch? In other words can I use a switch with this device?

Then I set up the linksys to have the IP 10.0.0.139 (my main router's IP is 10.0.0.138) and DNS to 10.0.0.138 etc.I've turned off both DHCP and WLAN on the linksys, to use it as a simple lan switch.

I have the ethernet cable coming from the router into the uplink port and my PS3, xbox, dvr, and pc in the other ports. It has been working fine until today I started messing around the the cables. I had trouble with the ps3 connecting to the internet so I used my laptop with wifi disabled to test out a few of the cables and ports. Now all of a sudden the switch kills the internet connection. If I remove the cable running to my room from the main router, the other PCs and wireless will connect, but as soon I plug myself up it goes dead. I now have the ethernet cable in my room hooked directly to the PC bypassing the switch and everything works fine now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new Siemens router and have set up my old LinkSys router as a switch (set DNS outside the IP range of the primary router, disabled DHCP server, connect LAN to LAN port).The SSIDs are still different. As a result each device now sees 2 networks and although internet GW is available from either connection, not al resources are shared across the network. There is one driveshare (with wired connection to the secondary switch) which cannot be seen by some of the wireless resources on the same secondary network.Questions:1. How can I set up the NW config such that it is seen and behaves like one physical network, anbd roaming devices pick up the signal from the strongest access point?

That old router is a knock-off,no-name router brand called "Gigafast" and the model number is WF19-CAPR. There are also variants to that router name as well.The router that I currently have is a Linksys WRT54G wireless-G router. I'm planning to upgrade the wireless router in favor of Wireless-N in the near future.I want to know how can I use that particular Gigafast router as a switch and I want to link that router up to my WRT54G router. The scenario goes as follows:
Cable internet connection ----> WRT54G router ---> Gigafast router (as a switch)
The IP address for the WRT54G router is 192.168.1.1, while the Gigafast router is 192.168.1.254. I may know by now that I have to disable DHCP on the gigafast router and I have to change an IP address to something that is "not in range" with the WRT54G router, am I right?I want to expand the number of ports, so I can connect with future devices such as a VoIP ATA adapter, a laptop and possibly an entertainment box (i.e. Apple TV or Boxee box)

Every AP has 2 SSIDs,one is for clients and one for mobile devices.I have updated the equipment to the latest firmware but I still encounter the same issue. The mobile devices go through APs and once every 2 days, my wap200e blocks its lan interface. I suspected a stp issue, because the switch was seeing MAC addresses coming from different ports.So I disabled STP on the switch and on the AP. The annoying thing thing is that none of my other antennas get cut off.I tried replacing it with a cisco wap200e,same issue.

It's not overheated as many people reported and performance is also great (wifi as well as gigabit ports). I tested all functions (NAT, Advanced Wireless Settings, Port Forwarding, Access Restrictions...) - all working great, but I am little stuck on the easiest one - configure it temporarily as regular gigabit switch with an IP address: I put my WAN cable and LAN cables in the 1-4 ethernet ports. NAT, DHCP and Firewall are disabled in the router. I have DHCP server in my network that is assigning IP addresses based on MAC address. In "Setup" > "Basic Setup" > "Router IP" I would like to set up automatic configuration - DHCP, but it is not possible, so I just type the same IP address that It should get from the DHCP server (in this case 10.109.249.42). Does all 1-4 ethernet ports have the same MAC address (in this case 00:25:9C:4D:16:86)? Everything is working fine, my computer's IP addresses are succesfully assigned (as well as wifi devices) from DHCP server in my network, but I feel like WRT320N's address is not assigned - the problem is I can't connect to router's administration under http://10.109.249.42. There is no IP restrictions for remote management.

I signed up for Linksys Cloud access.. now going to my browser 'the old way' is disabled.. is there any way to switch back to accessing my EA 4500 using the old way by putting in 192.168.1.1 into the browser?
