Dec 26, 2011I need to get the internet from my uncle and aunt's house to my grandma's house next door. I don't know exact feet or anything like that yet but I will get it measured off. My grandma's kids got her a laptop for Christmas but she doesn't have the internet or would be wanting to spend money on it a month since she already says she will not be able to use the computer, but I said we would just somehow get the internet from next door. I don't know off the top of my head but my aunts computer is an older Dell, early P4 computer with xp on it. It's slow but it does work so that is the computer. The router is some sort of D-link with one antenna on it and I'm pretty sure it's probably a G-router(2.4ghz) and not a N-router, but can get that info later too! They currently use Time Warner Cable Roadrunner Turbo for their internet. Both places are well built brick houses and at least 200-300 feet apart. I checked yesterday and the computer was able to pick up the signal in my grandma's house on the end that was closest to my aunts house. It was showing 2 bars but it wasn't extremely fast and that room had a bigger window in it probably allowing some of the signal in? If you moved from that point of the house though and tried to go to the other end, the signal was lost. The router in my aunt's house is one room away from the end of the house that is closest to my grandma's so it could be moved closer but I don't think that will fix the signal enough to do what I need it to do.

The media player sees my network and seems to have a good signal, but keeps telling me "limited or no connectivity." The media player (with adapter) is about 20 feet from the router with direct line-of-sight.Also, 3 other Wi-Fi devices having no problem connecting anywhere in the house.Power down/power up, move adapter to alternate USB port, re-try connection multiple times.

Dec 29, 2012I have a Sony Bravia KDL46EX640 which comes with a wireless USB adapter. When I first bought this, I set up wireless network and it went fine. I was able to use the applications for video streaming.
I was trying it again now and it doesn't work. It seems like I can't even connect to my wireless network. I tried to set it up again but it can't find my wireless network. I have tried resetting the TV too (UP arrow + Power button on TV) and still doesn't work. Contacted Sony support but they didn't assist. Nov 2, 2011I use to be able use the Internet when i am down stairs - i was able to stream videos without any lag, load any websites very fast and download files within minutes/ hours. The router is placed upstairs(i live in a flat) and when I am right next to the router the Internet is fine like before. Its only when i go downstairs that using the Internet is impossible.I have uninstalled the driver for the wireless adapter and installed/ searched for the latest driver without any luck. Jun 26, 2012I have a Sony Vaio Model VGN-NS20E (Vista) that has built-in Wireless. The PC was heavily infected by Virus and I had to re-install Vista Operating system. The system is now running fine (picture, DVD drive, sound etc )although, it will not detect the Wireless Adapter, hence the wireless will not work.I went to the manufacturer's computer website and downloaded the driver and (I think ) installed the driver on the laptop.The yellow "wireless" light on the front of laptop is not lit, even though it is switched to on.Am I right in thinking it is the wireless network adapter that isn't working and not the driver as when I go to "Device Manager" and look at the Network Drives, it only shows the wired Ethernet option. This added to the fact the yellow wireless light doesn't come on, on the front makes me think it is the adapter and not the driver.

I use s NETGEAR router, my network name is simply "NETGEAR" i have never named it anything else since installing this over 4 years ago. I have unplugged the power cord, waiting several minutes before plugging it back in. Also tried unplugging both the cable and the power cord. The router has no small "pin hole" that i can see in order for me to try to re-set it this way. It has literally disappeared from my Mac. Do i need to re-install using my NETGEAR cd?

Apr 1, 2013Macbook Air, OSX 10.8.1, on a home network under a Cisco/Linksys WRT110 router, internet via Optimum cable modem TM822G. Other PCs are W7 and XP, plus an iPad, iPhone & droid.
This mixed setup had worked fine until Optimum (Cablevision) replaced our aging cable modem. Since then, whenever the Macbook attempts to connect to the network it kicks all others offline. The Macbook itself can't get online. The network created by the router remains OK, but the connection to the cable modem & internet is lost.A couple of years ago, when a W7 computer was first introduced, it had the same effect, and we determined that turning off IPv6 on the W7 computer resolved it. But since then, we got a new router and it had no problem with IPv6. I mention it only because the behavior is the same. But in this case, it's a new cable modem that was introduced. Now the Macbook Air, which has been working fine on the network, crashes internet.Unfortunately, the Airbook is a high school issued piece, so we can't turn off the IPv6, due to access restrictions; not that that would've necessarily done it, but it's hard to troubleshoot when you can't make changes.So the two pieces involved in the problem are the two pieces we have little control over.
Macbook Air 2012 / Connecting To Ethernet Network?

I'm using the apple thunderbolt to ethernet adaptor to connect, and it registers a connection in the network preferences, with an IP address and subnet mask number. However, it wont fill the router name, the DNS server number or the search domains fields.When I use google chrome to load a webpage it doesn't load, stating that a DNS lookup has failed.How do I get connected?

Apr 26, 2011Running OS X 10.5.8 on an old MacBook Pro on a wireless network. It might be relevant that I recently upgraded the wireless router and the DHCP-assigned IP addresses changed. Before that, everything worked reasonably well.
I can connect to the MBP from Windows 7 computers on the network, logging in with a user name and password, and access the files there as expected.
But the MBP disappears from Windows Explorer after a few minutes. I can usually add it back (always checking the box to remember it) but it just keeps disappearing. Sometimes when it disappears, I can't add it back and when I try, Windows Explorer says, "can't find."
How can I get this share to stick?
Sony Vaio VGNFW378D - Wireless Network Adapter Is Missing From Device Manager
Aug 22, 2011I have a Sony Vaio VGNFW378D that runs with Windows Vista. Ever since I got this computer (about 2 yrs ago), I have had problems with it suddenly disconnecting from the internet. When this happens it could never detect any wireless networks and I would have to restart the computer to temporarily solve the problem. It usually happened after the computer was in hibernation.
Yesterday this happened again, only this time restarting the computer did not solve the problem. When I could not connect to a network I clicked on "Diagnose why Windows cannot find any additional networks" and it said "Install wireless networking hardware, and verify that the correct drivers are loaded".
I went onto the Sony website to download the Intel Wifi link 5100 AGN wireless LAN Driver and updates. The download was not successful and I received a message indicating that the latest updates of this driver were already installed in my computer.
Representatives at Sony only directed me to links that had steps to finding out what my problem was, which I followed with no success. Most of the steps included enabling the adapter in the device manager, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, etc...I could not do any of these things because the driver does not appear in the device manager at all.

If i block her computer using mac address filtering, the latency and download speeds are right where they should be, but as soon as i allow her back on ping jumps to 800-1000 and DL speeds drop to under 1mb.

I now know that I would need a special USB cable or a cross-over ethernet cable for a wired connection. As I don't have either at the moment I looked into creating a ad-hoc WiFi network between both computers. I found instructions how to set one up under Win XP and another one for Win 7 but I have found no information whether and how I can actually connect both. I reckon that I only need to set one up on one computer and then would have to somehow make the other computer detect and join that network.

Jul 15, 2012I have a sky router (Netgear DG834GT), which i have connected a secound router to which is a D link DIR-615 (with DD wrt firmware D4).I can get access to the sky router remotely without any issues even when changing the port number. its the Dlink router i cannot get access to remotely (within the network i can by typing in the dlink's ip address and works). Main router Sky router IP is 192.168.0.1 - Currently the port number is 8081.Secondary router Dlink IP is 192.168.0.2 (Static ip) - currently the port number is 8080.I have tried to configure the ports but it just dont want to open. Ive tried to open the ports on main netgear and tried all the option my dlink for port forwarding. i must be missing something fundametal here.

Have a desktop computer running xp which is connected to modem and router...Am running a D-link DSL-502T and Linksys wireless-G broadband Router, model :WRT54G.My issue is i can connect to the wireless network through the laptop but when i switch the wireless switch on the laptop every few minutes the desktop PC will drop the connection and display network cable unplugged, then goes back and fourth connecting and disconnecting every few minutes....as soon as i flick wireless switch off on laptop all is fine again.....wireless works as have another laptop running windows 7 pro and can connect mobile phone through wireless and ipad etc...I have had the internet load web pages but connection doesnt stay on...Does the same thing when i try connecting directly using network cable.
