I bought the 4300 a week ago - and just recently discovered that you cannot turn off the wi-fi radio using a schedule.
I thought this was "wireless router 101" - since my last three routers had this feature... apparently not with TP-Link.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a westell DSL modem/router supplied by Frontier. It connects only to the telephone line and via cat5 to my main router, a cisco EA6500. Everything seems to be working fine, I just would like to understand a few things.I disabled wireless radio on the westell, enabled it on the cisco, so I have just one WIFI network active.I know I am not supposed to have two DHCP servers active, but I did not know how else to be sure the CISCO would get a good address, so I left DHCP active on the WESTELL, and also enabled it on the CISCO to provide service for the rest of the net.The WESTELL admin interface is at 192.168.1.1, and assigns addresses in this range.According to the WESTELL, the CISCO is at 192.168.1.27, which I assume was assigned by DHCP.The CISCO has an admin interface at 10.144.224.224, and assigns addresses in this range to all the other devices on my net.As I say, everything works.I can access both router admin pages with a browser on my main 10.144.224 network, and can ping both. But I don't understand why it works. What rules allow me to talk to the WESTELL admin page from the CISCO private network, but do NOT propagate the DHCP access which is at the exact same IP address.
It is great that it works. But should I really have disabled DHCP on the WESTELL and assigned a static address to the CISCO? Or is this situation actually provided for in the rules, not just a lucky accident that it works? Why does the scanner say that the CISCO DHCP is "Unknown" rather than Authorized or Unauthorized? Is there something I can or should do to get it to be "Authorized"? I can ping 192.168.1.1, but not the 192.168.1.27 (times out), and yet when I ping a non-existent 192.169.1.3 I get "Reply from 192.168.1.27: Destination host unreachable".
I've recently installed a Cisco 2504 WLAN Controller with (5) AIR-LAP1042N-A-K9 Access Points. Everything is working fine as far as the APs connecting to the controller, and clients being able to connect to the WiFi and get network access, etc. The one problem I have is that one AP's b/g/n radio is not active.
If I go to the WLAN Controller management web page, and look at the Access Point Summary, it shows that I have five (5) 802.11 a/n radios active but only four (4) 802.11 b/g/n radios active. I know which AP is affected and clients can indeed connect to that radio using wireless 'B' but not 'N'.I have only one WLAN configured on the 2504 (WLAN ID 1), and one AP group name (default-group) so there are no special groupings of APs. I have been through every page of the Controller management page with a "fine tooth comb" and cannot find any place where I could accidentally be turning off the a/n radio for a single controller.
The network consists of 133 RAPs/MAPs/1131 APs and all joined the WLC. When I check the 802.11 a/n radio tab, I see only 129 APs and the 802.11 b/g/n tab I see 133 APs. I found out that 4 LAP1131 is not showing in the 802.11 a/n tab. I tried resetting the AP thru the WLC and still the don't see it in the 802.11 a/n tab.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis problem only seems to affect one of our sites. Every once in a while, several APs would lose link to the 5508 and get stranded. The only way to fix the issue is either to power cycle, or better yet SSH into the APs and use the command "capwap ap controller ip address x.x.x.x", and then they'd automatically rejoin the controller. At first, I thought network hiccups caused the APs to lose connectivity, but there's none that I could find. I have the primary/secondary controller IPs configured in them as well. See log below:

I am new to configuring WLC's. Our small business (5-15 wireless devices + 15ish wired) is trying to use a hand-me-down WLC and AP for our office wifi. We have a WLC 2106 directly connected to a 1231G-A-K9 via the WLC's port 8 POE. I am aware Cisco does not recommend this method, but we do not have a configurable switch at our disposal. We do not need separate VLAN's therefore I have left everything untagged. The AP has a static IP setup to allow communication to the WLC since it did not pull one from the WLC.
The AP is getting the correct network information and is showing up on the WLC monitoring page. I am able to connect to the new wireless network and able to ping between devices connected to the same AP. Now here is my question/issue. I cannot get communication from the WLC/AP to the rest of our network via an unconfigurable Netgear switch (FS605v3). After connecting an open switch port from the Netgear switch to port 4 on the WLC, I am lost. I tried giving port 4 on the WLC an address on the office network, but I receive an error stating "the IP information conflicts with another device".
Here is what I have setup on WLC
Virtual - 1.1.1.1
MNG IP-192.168.10.10

Attempted port 4 setup on WLC

IP- 192.168.10.25

i have a client company that needs to extend their network. i am advising them to purchase the cisco aironet 1550. does the wireless AP support all the communication that is generated by SAP business one? Also, if this AP is placed outside on a over their offices, what is the estimate range that it will cover knowing that their offices are only one story high but do have a big shed that contains some production machine and metals everywhere

View 2 Replies View Related We have two different entities we support and both are set up as autonomouse wireless groups. The SSID is the same though so they can use their 7921's between floors and buildings. The problem we have had is that the phones on the first floor were getting the IP's of the organization on the second floor. When you view the AP's on the phone the ap directly next to it on the first floor (the one its suppose to talk to) is listed first, The strange thing is that shows it is connected to the right AP (the first floor one). The AP on the second floor is also listed but its about third down. After the phone sits it will actually change IP's but not all of them. Their were a few phones that took about a half a day to get the correct IP.
My question is how do these phones grab their ip's? I know how DHCP works but I am needing to know specifically how the radio works on the 7921's. What is the boot up process? It appears that it must cycle through each channel starting with the highest and loop through a process in descending order: compare ssid's and then authenticate if possible. I am assuming it is seeing the second floor first because initially they all get the second floor ip. The second floor is on channel 60 and the one it should connect to is on channel 36 (We are using 802.11a). That's how I came up with my descending channel theory.
All of a sudden I started experiencing occasional loss of communication with my router. I tried updating the firmware to the latest (1.0.04) but am still experiencing the same thing.I don't lose internet access, I lose connection to the router itself. If I power cycle the router, the connection is re-established and I'm able to access the router and in turn the internet. I'm seeing this on both wired and wireless connections. Last night the Cisco logo actually turned off when I lost connection (this was a first). When I power cycled, connection was restored and the logo lit up again.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy question regards to a pair of WLC 4402 with 7.0.98.0 software.Actual, our security policy does not really allow any peer-to-peer communication in a wireless LAN. Therefore we set the 'P2P Blocking Action' to drop, and the 'Broadcast Forwarding' feature to disabled (default). But now there is a special requirement for two mobile endpoints to communicate with each other, because one device controls the other. To test the communication, we first disabled P2P Blocking (without success) and further enabled Broadcast Forwarding to bring the communication up. Now it works, but the configuration disagrees with our policy.
1. Is there an alternative configuration as described possible, so that we do not violate the security policy? To allow only p2p connection between the two devices, ist should also be possible to drop any else by an ACL. But how to fix the problem with the broadcast, because of the needed ARP? My idea was to use a static ARP entry, but as far as i know, one of the both devices is not able for it.
2. Because, I did not find any detailed documentation:
2a. with enabled Broadcast Forwarding, the controller forwards all broadcast for any configured SSID, right?
2b. is the broadcast limited to the source VLAN/SSID?
2c. is the broadcast limited to an AP, to an WLC, or is it broadcasted to every AP on every WLC that has the relevant SSID?
we already have two new 5508 but not in an operational state now, because we plan to implement new 3600 APs.Do these WLCs offer more/another circumstances or possibilities?
I am trying to connet to the internet but it keeps telling me the radio on my 802.11 network adapter is still disabled. Use the hardware radio control switch enable it.I have had this laptop since 2004, I was on the internet before I got my new gateway laptop with vista windows. I went an turned on the emachine laptop and I don't no how to connect back to the internet. This has windows xp on it. I use to be able to run both machines.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had no problems with my WRt610N fo 2 years. Yesterday a problem occured and today again. Namely, I opened my laptop (the lid) and suddenly it could not see my network (SSID) among the rest of the neighbouring ones. The WiFi indicator in the tray showed the yellow "!". Since I have another (secondary) router wired to the primary (WRT610N) I tried and succeeded to connect to it (same SSID, but type "g").
Today the same situation. This is the straneg thing - if I 1st connect to the "g" router after a while the WIn7 reports my SSID being of type "gn" meaning it now sees the primary WRT610N. If I switch off the secondary the netowork is maintained by the primary router showing "n". It seems like my laptop cannot see my router (but can see all other networks) until it 1sr connects to the secondary, and afterwards it sees the primary router and can stay with it.

I am building a BOM for a customer and I need to present cheaper options than 3500 or 3600 APs. I thought of these two models but I don't know what models of antennas to pick.1602 is a 3X3 MIMO with 3 antenna connectors. How many 2.4 GHz and how many 5.8 GHz antennas should I pick for each radio?2602 is a 3X4 MIMO with 4 antenna connectors. In this case I suppose there are 2 connectors per radio.
