Pandora Keeps Playing After Router Turned Off?
Feb 9, 2013I consider myself very technical and with pretty good knowledge of networking and routers, but I was baffled today. I was doing some testing and had a Firefox browser open with Pandora playing some music. I decided to reboot my router and much to my amazement, after pulling the power plug on the router, Pandora kept playing music as if nothing happened! It went on to play the entire 6 minute song then stopped when it attempted to go to the next song in the play list.I must admit I don't understand this. Even if it has something to do with a networking protocol I don't understand, the router is still needed for the physical (Ethernet wire) connections from my PC to the router and then ultimately through the cable modem to the internet. Of course, I did NOT turn off the cable modem--just the router.

Sep 15, 2011Has anyone come accross a problem whereby an SSID becomes unavailable when selecting a Radio Policy of '802.11g Only'? The SSID is configured identically accross multiple controllers, but only works on the WISM's. The same WLAN profile on a 5508 is unavailable unless I select a Radio Policy of 'All'.
All controllers (WISM's and 5508's are running 6.0.188.0)The WLAN profile is using MAC Filtering[WPA2][Auth(802.1X)] as the security policy.
Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT610N Seems To Lose Radio
Mar 18, 2012I have had no problems with my WRt610N fo 2 years. Yesterday a problem occured and today again. Namely, I opened my laptop (the lid) and suddenly it could not see my network (SSID) among the rest of the neighbouring ones. The WiFi indicator in the tray showed the yellow "!". Since I have another (secondary) router wired to the primary (WRT610N) I tried and succeeded to connect to it (same SSID, but type "g").
Today the same situation. This is the straneg thing - if I 1st connect to the "g" router after a while the WIn7 reports my SSID being of type "gn" meaning it now sees the primary WRT610N. If I switch off the secondary the netowork is maintained by the primary router showing "n". It seems like my laptop cannot see my router (but can see all other networks) until it 1sr connects to the secondary, and afterwards it sees the primary router and can stay with it.

Sep 27, 2012I have a Ubiquiti radio link between my DSL modem and RV082 router and although the router log states that it is connected to the static ip address of the modem i get and NSD fail and have no connection. if I plug the radio link directly into a computer with the static ip I get a connection but the modem has a problem with it.

I have a Vodafone K4605 surf stick (same as Huawei E372). It is a dual-cell radio modem so in normal conditions it will have throughput speeds twice that of a normal single radio, such as a phone or older previous gen stick. When I connect it to my PC and install the software that comes with it I can get 18Mb/s downstream. But when I connect it to my current router (draytek 2830np) I only get 9Mb/s so I'm guessing it is not using the two radios and aggregating the connection. So I have two questions. My main one is if the K4605/E372 needs a special modem string for it to work properly, and my second is does the TL-MR3420 have this issue or could I get the full 18Mb. Also I might be getting a K5006 soon which has three radios. Would the TL-MR3420 support that also and give me 27Mb?

Feb 6, 2013I have recently discovered that I can stream audio from my WRT54G V2 via a wireless extender.I can not play internet radio, or stram Rhapsody via the extender.The extender will not stream audio.This is actually quite normal behavior of a Range Extender. Range Extenders work off of the idea of pulling a signal from the Base Station and then repeating the signal frequently, this generally causes rebuffering issues with most wireless devices within a network.I believe I need a wireless extender that does not repeat the signal, more of a wireless access point.

Feb 16, 2013I have a westell DSL modem/router supplied by Frontier. It connects only to the telephone line and via cat5 to my main router, a cisco EA6500. Everything seems to be working fine, I just would like to understand a few things.I disabled wireless radio on the westell, enabled it on the cisco, so I have just one WIFI network active.I know I am not supposed to have two DHCP servers active, but I did not know how else to be sure the CISCO would get a good address, so I left DHCP active on the WESTELL, and also enabled it on the CISCO to provide service for the rest of the net.The WESTELL admin interface is at 192.168.1.1, and assigns addresses in this range.According to the WESTELL, the CISCO is at 192.168.1.27, which I assume was assigned by DHCP.The CISCO has an admin interface at 10.144.224.224, and assigns addresses in this range to all the other devices on my net.As I say, everything works.I can access both router admin pages with a browser on my main 10.144.224 network, and can ping both.But I don't understand why it works.What rules allow me to talk to the WESTELL admin page from the CISCO private network, but do NOT propagate the DHCP access which is at the exact same IP address.
It is great that it works. But should I really have disabled DHCP on the WESTELL and assigned a static address to the CISCO? Or is this situation actually provided for in the rules, not just a lucky accident that it works?Why does the scanner say that the CISCO DHCP is "Unknown" rather than Authorized or Unauthorized? Is there something I can or should do to get it to be "Authorized"? I can ping 192.168.1.1, but not the 192.168.1.27 (times out), and yet when I ping a non-existent 192.169.1.3 I get "Reply from 192.168.1.27: Destination host unreachable".

First the wifi would turn itself off but after turning it back on it might happily stay on for a few hours before switching itself back off.The day before yesterday it decided to start turning itself off straight away. I plugged in with ethernet, uninstalled the old drivers and reinstalled new ones, this didn't seem to do anything so I turned on my firewall and titanium defense and after a while it decided to start working again.Earlier today I connected my DSLR camera to my USB 3 port to download pictures, this killed my wifi straight way. I reconnected with ethernet and I'm not sure what I did but now the wifi has decided to work again.

Jan 14, 2013I have been using the Asus RT-n53 for about a year now and had little to no problems with it. Lately, my wife's iPhone has been dropping its connection to the RT-n53. It was probably a problem with her piece of apple crap, but I thought I would update the firmware on the RT-n53. I found that my firmware was way out of date, so I updated to the latest version.
With the newest firmware installed, I can no longer detect the 5Ghz band with my PlayBook. Before the update, all of the other devices in the house were not 5Ghz capable, so my PlayBook was the only device that used the 5Ghz radio on the RT-n53. Now, the SSID for the 5Ghz band just isn't there any more. In the configuration settings for the RT-n53, everything points to "it should be working"... 5Ghz radio is enabled, SSID broadcast is enabled. I have tried changing the wireless mode from "N Only" to "Auto" to "Legacy". I have fiddled with channel settings, encryption settings, etc. Even tried changing the SSID a few times. Multiple reboot, and still, the 5Ghz SSID just doesn't appear on any devices.
Cisco Wireless :: 250 One AP's B/g/n Radio Is Not Active
Oct 1, 2012I've recently installed a Cisco 2504 WLAN Controller with (5) AIR-LAP1042N-A-K9 Access Points. Everything is working fine as far as the APs connecting to the controller, and clients being able to connect to the WiFi and get network access, etc. The one problem I have is that one AP's b/g/n radio is not active.
If I go to the WLAN Controller management web page, and look at the Access Point Summary, it shows that I have five (5) 802.11 a/n radios active but only four (4) 802.11 b/g/n radios active. I know which AP is affected and clients can indeed connect to that radio using wireless 'B' but not 'N'.I have only one WLAN configured on the 2504 (WLAN ID 1), and one AP group name (default-group) so there are no special groupings of APs. I have been through every page of the Controller management page with a "fine tooth comb" and cannot find any place where I could accidentally be turning off the a/n radio for a single controller.

Apr 19, 2013The network consists of 133 RAPs/MAPs/1131 APs and all joined the WLC. When I check the 802.11 a/n radio tab, I see only 129 APs and the 802.11 b/g/n tab I see 133 APs. I found out that 4 LAP1131 is not showing in the 802.11 a/n tab. I tried resetting the AP thru the WLC and still the don't see it in the 802.11 a/n tab.
