I would like to use the DAP-1522 as an Access Point (wired to my router). My two concerns are:Can the 3 remaining ethernet ports be used to wirely connect to local PCs (so the DAP-1522 also acts as a switch) ? In case answer to the previous is yes, would it affect the performances of the wifi ?
View 3 RepliesSo just recently purchased the DIR-825 and DAP-1522. At this point I just want to get the DAP-1522 to work as a wireless access point to my DIR-825. So my wireless laptop would connect wirelessly to the DAP-1522 and the 1522 would go wireless to the router. Pretty basic I guess. I was planning on using the WAP to strengthen the 5 GHz signal to the router but again, at this point, I would be happy to get the 2.4 GHz working.
I've been working on this since last night and got frustrated and went to bed. I woke up fresh and decided to try again and I'm not having making any headway.
DIR-825 is connected to my DSL modem and has no problem accessing the internet. I can connect to either 2.4 or 5.0 directly from my laptop with no problem at all and have access to the internet. Encryption is disabled. It worked with encryption but I turned it off to troubleshoot this AP problem.
It should be simple but I must be doing something wrong. BTW is there a way to scan for network devices from the router or the access point? I tried discovering each device with the wireless setup button on each device but they don't recognize each other so I'm configuring this manually.
So the DAP has access point enabled and 802.11 is running in mixed mode. I've tried different variations but nothing has worked. I've tried 20 mhz and 20-40 auto mhz channels but same problem. Wireless security is off for troubleshooting at the moment.
DHCP server is disabled and I've assigned the DAP an available ip from the router's dhcp range. I can connect to the DAP both wirelessly and hard wired. The problem is that it can't seem to connect to the router. So my laptop can connect to the router and ha internet access. And it can also connect to the DAP but does not have internet access. The ip is showing auto configuration 169.x.x.x when connected to the DAP so I'm not getting an ip. Is the router supposed to assign the ip to my laptop through the DAP? But again, if the DAP can't communicate with the router, then that would explain why I can't get an IP.

Both of which have services that need internet access, but neither are WIFI enabled & are the wrong side of the room to be connected via cabled ethernet.I believe that what I need is to wireless access point? I'd like one with a built in switch as well, as most seem to only come with only one port. The one I found has four, which would be useful as I could replace the poor wireless Xbox 360 dongle.

I am now able to connect to the 615 either by wifi or by typing it's ip address with another computer connected to the LAN. Connecting to the 615 by wifi, i can do a ping request to urls or receive and send mail with my e-mail client but i can't access websites using my browser.s it possible to get it working without installing some kind of modified firmware? I tried plugging the Internet ethernet cable in the LAN and Internet ports of the 615, none works.

Now, we're on the 192.168.1.x domain, and I've already hooked my PC up directly to the DAP-1522 and switched its IP address. So now, I can connect to it through the switch. I've renamed it, set it to WPA2 with a passphrase, and should be set to go. However, I can't get my laptop, IPod touch, or any devices to see it. I tried entering the SSID manually, and nothing can find it.
I wish to turn my TP-Link wireless router into an access point but can't figure out how to do it. I have tried several times but without any success. Below are my information about my main router and the router I want to turn into an access point:

my config : one DAP-1522 as an AP + one DAP-1522 as a switch, 6 meters between them, signal strength about 70. Any others wifi networks around my house. both with FW140b03.bin dated 01/14/2011.Most of the time, both work correctly. But time to time, the wifi link is ko. In AP status, the switch is mentionned connected (uptime = 3 hours ...). The red led is blinking on the switch. The administration web of the switch is not available and the link is ko. Unplug and plug power units doesn't fix the problem. I need to reset DAPs.From Dlink experts, i would like to get more description about issues :
- in switch mode, which are the events modifying the red led state ? what does blinking / off led mean ?
- in AP mode, what does "uptime ...STA ...." mean ? frames are periodically received from STA ?
I just recently bought this router (DIR-615 rev E3) to act as a Access Point for the dead wifi spot in my room downstairs. I set up everything properly (Turned off DCHP, set ports and gateway..subnet blah blah) and it was working fine. My wireless speeds were perfect, and had no issues with that. However, my wired speed was significantly slowed down. I have Verizon Fios and have the wire from that plugged in to LAN port 1 on my DIR-615. I have another wire going from Port 2 to the back of my PC. My normal speeds are about 30mbps down and 25mbps up. When I connect my internet through the second router (DIR-615) I get a maximum of about 3.0mbps up and down, doesn't go much higher than that. The wireless however, gives me about 11mbps both ways, which is fine.
I thought it might have been a firmware issue so I flashed to DD-WRT (build 15778), but the problem persists. I've tried most everything and am getting desperate. There's absolutely no logical reasoning for the slowdown. I have confirmed it's a router issue because I also turned off wireless on my laptop and plugged that directly into the router instead of my desktop and get the same 3mbps.
I am trying to reset my 1522 series lightweight access point to factory default.On the box,there is no any mode button.Actually password is not set to Default and need pasword recovery on this device.If you have any experience on this lightweight access point that let me know.How I reset device to fectory default.

So yeah we have two internet connections.Getting weak signals from both of the routers in my room on the far left side of the house and little to no signals in the basementSo what I want to ask is that should I purchase better routers or should I go with a signal booster of some sorts like an Access Point or a Range Extender?Also is there such a device which would catch signals from both of these differently configured routers ( different internets, different wireless security keys etc ) and then boost them throughout the house if placed in an area where both the router signals are strong?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a DIR-655 router with a DAP-1522 connected in bridge mode. The firmware on the router is 1.21 and the firmware on the bridge is 1.21. I have my SSID set to broadcast on the DIR-655 with WPA-Personal encryption. When I initially setup the DAP-1522, I was able to access the setup page and connect to the DIR-655. On the status page of the DAP-1522, wireless radio is enabled and status is connected. I connected my XBOX 360, Sony BR player and DirecTV DVR to the wireless bridge and none of them can connect to the internet.
I can wirelessly access the bridge's IP, 192.168.0.50, from any computer connected to the DIR-655 but when I attempt to access the internet on any device connected to the DAP-1522, I do not get a connection. On the XBOX 360 I cannot connect my live account. On the Sony BR player, I get a message that new firmware was found, but when it attempts to connect to the internet to download it, the connection times out. Same occurs when attempting to access the internet on the DirecTV DVR receiver.
More that a year ago, with guidance from D-Link Customer Service, I performed setup on a system consisting of a DSL-2640B (with wireless disabled) and a DAP-1522 as an access point. I included the 1522 so as to have an N network, since the 2640 is G. The system works fine and I'm able to stream via the 1522 to an N 300 USB Adapter. Internet access is fine, and I'm able to access the 2640 with no problem.I want to add another 300 in a different location. To do that, I'll need to access the 1522 from my Windows 7 computer, since I've lost the passphrase that I'll need for the 300.Everything that I've read tells me to connect the 1522 directly to my computer via cable and to temporarily change the network adapter settinge to:
IP = 192.168.0.x various sources list values of 2 and 99 for x
Subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = 192.168.0.50
Then to use a browser window to go to 192.168.0.50 Regardless of the settings that I use, the browser (IE9) always indicates that it can't connect with that address. accessing the 1522, or on any alternative way to obtain the passphrase.
I have a DIR-655 set up as follows: [code] Lost Internet Access on my DAP-1522 on only my wireless laptop connection, but not other wireless nodes on the DAP-1522.I have most of my wireless nodes attached to the DIR-655, which is upstairs. Downstairs is where the DAP-1522 is located. There is a wired connection between the DIR-655 and DAP-1522. The DAP-1522 is being used as a Access Point. On this I have only three nodes that are wireless. My Smartphone, iPad and my laptop. There are also three nodes that are using the wired ports with no issue accessing the internet. The setup above have being working for over two years with no issue. Then three days ago my laptop connects to the DAP-1522, but has "No Internet Access." If I change my wireless connection to the DIR-655 on my laptop, then I do have internet connection. My Smartphone and iPad still are able to access the DAP-1522 and get the internet.
I have deleted my DHCP Reservation for only my laptop on the DIR-655. Wireless connection to the DAP-1522, looked at the DIR-655 and see that DHCP Reservation show the MAC of the laptop and I Reserve it. Still "No Internet Access." On the DAP-1522 it does show that my laptop is associated to this device. I cannot ping my local LAN IP Addresses , a website or Public IP Address only from the laptop. The DIR-655 shows a "Do Not Enter: Wireless system with MAC address 4025C2B97110 disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication" with a connection to the DAP-1522, but shows "Do Not Enter: Wireless system with MAC address 4025C2B97110 secured and linked" with a connection to the DIR-655.
I have 4 DAP-1522's bridging to a WNDR3700v2. Any device plugged into any of the 1522's can access the internet and can access shared drives etc. on any other device plugged into any 1522. I can access the WNDR3700 admin website from a device connected to a 1522.
However, no device plugged into a 1522 can access a device plugged into the 3700's ethernet switch. Likewise, the devices plugged into the 3700 cannot access devices plugged into 1522s.
Devices plugged into the 3700's switch can access the internet and can access each other.
I have changed network cables, power cycled all devices (PCs, bridges, routers, etc) at least once. I am running latest firmware on 1522's and 3700. In short, I've tried just about all the basic stuff.
It almost appears that the 3700's switch is acting as an isolated network. I would say that were true, except that I can access the router admin page from anywhere (any 1522 and directly connected to the 3700).
All devices are within the 10.0.0.x address range with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Again, I have no problems accessing the internet. Just the problem of devices plugged into a 1522 communicating with devices plugged into the 3700 and vice versa.
I have a DAP-1513 unit but there is no section for that unit on the forum.Is is possible to access the configuration pages over the wireless connection. After setting up access to the main router via WPS, I can access the configuration pages for a few minutes after I "power cycle" the unit.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Netgear WNDR3300 Dual-Band and is setup to use both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz to achieve 300 Mbps connection.
On the DAP-1522, I use IE (not Firefox or Chrome) for configuration as follow:
- IP address: STATIC
- Wireless config: using Wizard
- Wireless security: WPA2 / AES
- Mac Cloning: disabled
I tested this by connecting a Windows 7 desktop AND laptop via Ethernet cable and both laptop can obtain IP address dynamically, so my DAP-1522 is talking to the WNDR3300 (it has DHCP). Both Win 7 machines can also access the Internet.The problem is, I can NO LONGER access DAP-1522 admin screen, even by typing the static IP address assigned to it. The ONLY way I can re-access it is:
a). Reset DAP-1522
b). Shutdown the WNDR3300 wireless router, assign a static IP to the laptop, connect via cable to DAP-1522
Am trying to connect 3 pcs connected to a Dlink 8 port switch through a Dlink WL2100 Access point connected as an AP Client to the main network. Only 1 pc is able to see the main network and am having none of the other 2pcs are able to see the main network. The 3 pcs are able to see each other.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem setting up an Access Point. Here is my configuration. I have a Comcast Cable Modem that plugs in to a 24 port Netgear Switch. From the switch it plugs into a Linksys N wireless router with an IP of 10.1.10.76. I don't know the linksys model. But it is fairly new. I also have a Netgear WN604 N Access Point that plugs in to the same switch in another location away from the wireless router about 75+ft.
I configured the access point's IP to be 10.1.10.130 with DHCP off and DNS as 10.1.10.1. The cable modems default Gateway is 10.1.10.1 and it handles the dhcp which is provided to the switch were both the wireless router and access point get there IP's. I can't set it up so that the cable modem plugs in to the wireless router first then the switch because of a security system that is setup to the Comcast Cable Modem.
My Goal is to the the same identical SSID and Password for both the Linksys and Access point. I don't think I can set it up as a repeater because it's to far away from the linksys router.
How can i configure my wireless AP to provide wireless internet to my network via my switch?

When they bought their house it was wired for ethernet and have the modem going to a netgear 8 port switch which is going to the different rooms of the house. I would like to add a wireless access point to one of those 8 ports coming from the switch. I currently have a TP-LINK TLWR740N router that I can configure into an access point, or I can buy just and access point. Unfortunately it is not an option for me to plug the modem into the router and then the router into the switch.

192.168.1.1 is a Linksys WRT610N acting as a router and DHCP server for addresses .100 to .150
192.168.1.2 is TEW-639 with DHCP turned off and connected to the Lynksys via one of the LAN ports.
I then have a FosCam camera with IP 192.168.1.010, connected either wirelessly or via a wire on a LAN port to the TEW-639W.
Here is my problem: If the FosCam is connected wirelessly to the TEW-639W I am unable to see it from any device connected to the Linksys. If I connect the FosCam via a wire to a LAN port on the TEW-639W then I can see it from a device connected to the Linksys device.If a device is connected to the network via the TEW-639, I can see the FosCam whether it is hardwired or wirelessly connected to the TEW-639. Every AP has 2 SSIDs,one is for clients and one for mobile devices.I have updated the equipment to the latest firmware but I still encounter the same issue. The mobile devices go through APs and once every 2 days, my wap200e blocks its lan interface. I suspected a stp issue, because the switch was seeing MAC addresses coming from different ports.So I disabled STP on the switch and on the AP. The annoying thing thing is that none of my other antennas get cut off.I tried replacing it with a cisco wap200e,same issue.

I have a seemingly simple desire: to achieve acceptable wifi coverage of my entire house and the ability to use my wireless devices in multiple locations within that house. To achieve this aim I have tried a variety of hardware combinations over the last two months but am now at the point where I'm almost ready to abandon the project.In my current setup I have:Downstairs: A new & working Wireless Router (TP-Link TD-W8961ND) from which I can connect to (1) the internet, and (2) the internal network devices (NAS, printer, and network shares). Broadcasting on channel #1. DHCP = On.Upstairs: A new & working Access Point (TP-Link TL-WA801ND).The AP is connected by a physical cable to the downstairs router. The AP is in "Access Point Mode" with the same SSID and security settings as the router.
From the AP I can also connect to (1) the internet, and (2) the internal network devices (NAS, printer, and network shares). Broadcasting on channel #11. DHCP = Off.Clearly therefore, parts of my setup are correct and complete. However, I cannot roam between these two devices. Once a device is connected to one of these devices it cannot connect to the other. When downstairs, if I connect any device (iPad, iPhone, Win7 ThinkPad, WinXP Netbook) to the router's Wifi network, it connects to the router as expected and is fine.
When upstairs, it connects to the second router but cannot get to the internet (it gets an IP address beginning with 169.). It reports a "Strong" connection but simply cannot establish a useful connection with the world outside the house. The same is true if I take a machine that is successfully connected to the upstairs network and move downstairs.Have you successfully setup a wifi network with a TP-Link router and a TP-Link Access Point so that roaming works? If so, what's the secret?! Should I use the "Bridge with AP" mode for the AP?
I have have my Dir-655 set up as an access point for awhile and would like to change the wireless access code. I can't seem to figure out how to access the setup menu while it is an access point to do this. How I access the router when it is set up as an access point?

I've connected the belkin by cable to the portable and disabled the DCHP and clicked on set up as an access point, set up wifi security and password, but when i am trying to reset the IP address I end up having to reset the router and start all over again.

I would like to continue to use the E2500 as a wireless access point only, providing WiFi connection to the SonicWALL. How do I set up the E2500 for this purpose. I assume I switch off the DHCP server and NAT within the device. Is there a dedicated "access point" mode?
