View 2 RepliesI have an issue with my work laptop connecting to my home network. It will connect to the internet but only briefly and then the connection is dropped. I reset or repair the connection and I can get it to re-connect but then it drops again after only a minute or two. I tried to connect it to the router directly with a cable (turned wireless off) and had the same issue. This laptop has no issues connecting wirelessly at work or to other wi-fi networks I have tried. I have another laptop in the house that has no issues connecting to the home network & internet. The issue seems only to be with this laptop at home. The laptop is a Dell using 64 bit Vista. The router is a D-link DI-524, 802.11g router and I have a DSL connection.

I've been having this DNS problem for 6 days or so. The internet doesn't work with cable nor Wi-Fi and I've tried almost everything, ping, configuring the DNS, IP, disabling everything, enabling everything, nslookup doesn't work, releasing and renewing doesn't work too, and to make things worst.(In the main computer, everything works just fine and the router settings appear to be correct too, my computer also works perfectly fine in other places with WLAN).

So I use the "Diagnose and repair" feature which tells me to either reset the ip address or something or one of my cables is unplugged so I should unplug the modem and router and replug it back it after checking the cables.The resetting the ip address doesn't do jack but if I unplug the router and replug it in, the wi-fi works again...well, until i log off and log back in againI've also tried updating my wifi drivers, run a scan for viruses, and updated all my software. Now my internet status is "No internet access" but when i connect my ethernet cable the internet starts working and i can see the "Internet access" status. I have re-installed my wi-fi driver too from the orignal CD that i got with my laptop, but still no luck also i did not install anything in past 1 week and the only anti-virus i have is Avast (tried disabling it too). I plugged out the cables from my router and plugged them again but that dint work too. I have a Dell Inspiron 1300 which crashed, service tag . I was able to start it again using the Dell Operating System Reinstallation CD for XP Professional with SP1, that came with another computer. I then installed a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 and Internet Explorer 8. However the wifi (wireless) does not work. I went to setup and assured that it is enabled. I assume that I have lost the driver for it. Before the crash it had a working wireless connection. I need to know what driver to install to make it operate. Setup indicates that my computer has a MiniPCI card 1370 Broadcom Corp.

My OS is Windows 7 x64 and I have to admit that I haven't tried any other operating systems yet. To sum it up; Windows sees network SSID's, makes an attempt to connect, waits a long time, then fails with the message: Windows was unable to connect to [*SSID*] and this happens with every router I try. This is kind of bugging me because it defeats the whole purpose of having a laptop as the only way of connecting it to the internet is via LAN.
