View 2 Replies View RelatedWe use Nortel VPN and the problem is that it's set so when you connect to it, you can only access company resources so no Internet. To mitigate that we use vmware and run Windows XP at the same time as our Windows 7 systems. I'd love to be able to use remote desktop though and connect to a system located elsewhere even another office computer and have that one on the VPN, but of course as soon you connect the remote desktop connection goes down with it.I'm just wondering if there's any ways around this. I'm assuming not, but I'm not sure how VPN fully works. Like if I had 2 network cards in the remote system, when I VPN in does it block connections from all network cards? Ideally I'd like to use something like Amazon Web Services since their Windows Server tier has the free option which is good, or will use another VPS type system running Windows Server.

The wiresless connection was working fine.Now ... even though I have reinstalled the os twice, there is no wireless to be found. I do have an indicator light that says it's on. There is no Windows Mobility Center available in the Start menu All Programs.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy old Actiontec M1000 modem recently died and my HP nc6120 with windows XP can not connect to the wireless network through the new Actiontec C1000A model.It connected wirelessly through the old M1000 moden. Window icons on the screen indicate no wireless network is detected. When I view the available networks and log in to the assigned network with its password, it looks like it is trying to connect but does not. It will connect through the ethernet link-up. I don't have any other wireless devices to connect to the network. I have updated the drivers for the wireless card through HP. I have taken the HP nc6120 to the Geek Squad and the wireless card connects with their network. I seem to have a compatibility problem with the old HP with its XP windows operating software and the new modem system. I have tried to reset the ip addresses, but this has had no effect. However, I do have purchased AVG protection software operating on the system, which I am not sure how to shut off. Is this a problem with a too advanced modem for an old style HP with an XP operating system? Is there a modem that I can downgrade to if it is? [code]

I have PC System Windows XP home edition Version 2002 SP3 and I lost Internet access in the middle of downloading a new program. I have a Motorola modem and modem is connected to the Netgear router. When I turn my desktop PC on which is connected to the router it shows the local connection is connected, but the Bridge Network cable is unplugged I have no idea what that is and if I need it to be connected to the internet. I called the Comcast service and the lady assistant did not even know what the Bridge cable is and I do not know ether since. I do not know what I should do to get the connection back to the PC; another PC work just fine also is connected to the router.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a Windows XP machine on our network that is giving us a strange problem. We have it statically configured with an IP and a default gateway address which points to a router on our network. This is the same router that nearly all of our machines point to and none of the other machines have this issue.If we open up CMD and make a ping request from an outside server (public or interal servers on other subnets) we get a 'destination host unreachable' error. We can ping the ip address of the router that is assigned as the default gateway. We can circumvent this ip address by adding a static route ('route add' from CMD) directing all traffic on the network interface to the ip of the router. Once this is done we can ping and get a response from any server both internal and external. We also tried doing a tracert (without have the static route added) to an external site by IP address. The tracert does not even show a hop for the router so it seems as if the request is never making it past the interface on the XP machine. We simply get an error saying it is unable to find the host. Interesting though it does provide us with a domain name for the ip address. So somehow it is able to reslove DNS. (We have a local DNS server on the same subnet)

While option 2 doesn't look right to me, it would leave the existing configurations in place which would minimize my downtime (I think)

Now, the modem is fine, I've tested 'pingtest' on some laptops and the packet loss is very minimal. I've tried reinstalling the drivers for the LAN controller, using a different ethernet cable, using the 'winsock' reset command, and I have no luck. This does effect upload times on YouTube, to where a minute long video takes an hour.

And it's been running in great shape until this. I'll retrace my steps as best I can.I was on the internet and my connection was still connected (Completely, not limited) but my browser wouldn't surf. I naturally restarted my router, nothing changed. So I restarted my computer. When it came back on the Wireless didn't boot up like it used to. I checked my internet, it was fine. My laptop was running fine on it.Now as I try to figure out whats wrong, my "Wireless Network Connection" is gone completely from my computer. AND the Wireless isn't on my device manager anymore?? I installed another USB wireless stick (which I used on my old desktop) and it's working ok but I feel like my connection used to be so much better which the ASUS wifi instead.
