View 1 Replies View RelatedFirstly I cannot get my Linksys RE1000 to work with my network having tried the set up CD on 2 computers (mac and windows). The main router is a BT Home Hub 2.0
The main router is in the basement where out internet connection enters the house, also in the basement is our LAN board where we have ethernet cables extending to parts of the house. There is weak wireless signal from groundfloor up to the top floor so wanted to find something where I could plug into the ethernet port and it would broadcast an wireless network to the upper floors/areas with a weaker signal. Thought the RE1000 would do this job but i can't get it to do it wirelessly let alone connect it to the main router using a ethernet cable.
So, with the latest firmware update I could add a second e4200 to my network to use as a bridge or access point? What I need is another device in my living room that can pick up the wireless signal and dish out network connectivity to my receiver, xbox360, and ps3. With the new firmware update can this be done with a second e4200? How does one connect to each e4200 on the network for setup (dohave to change the default ip address of 1?)I just bought a trendnet TEW-687GA 450 mb/s wireless gaming adapter and a trendnet 5 port switch to accomplish what I mentioned above. I'm just wondering if there is an advantage to switching over to two e4200's. The trendnet adapater does not have a 5ghz channel.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys EA4500 setup on my corporate network for wireless access. I have enabled the guest network and from all I can tell it's on a seperate subnet from my internal network like it should be. 192.168.x.x My internal is on a 10.x.x.x network. I conenct to the guest network using a laptop and I'm prompted for a password to get to the internet, which I like. The one issue I'm seeing is when I'm connected to the guest network I can still do an RDP session to internal resources. How is this possible if the guest network is on a seperate subnet?I take a laptop which has not been joined to my domain, connect to the guest ssid, and then open an RPD session and enter an IP address for an internal server and it connects. Is there a setting to keep this from happening

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two PCs connected to each other through a Wireless-N Gigabit Router (WRT310N). One PC is running Windws XP while the other is running Windows 7. At this point I do not have, or want, Internet connectivity. I would, however, like to call web pages on the Windows 7 PC from the Windows XP PC. The Windows 7 PC has php files that run C++ files to analyze files supplied by the Windows XP PC and I would like to send the results of the analysis back to the XP PC.The reason for this is that I am setting up a home based web site that allows users to run programs on my Windows 7 PC but I want to keep hackers from accessing files on my Windows 7 PC. So the XP will be connected directly to the Internet and the Windows 7 PC will only be connected to the XP PC.I can successfully ping both ways between the Windows 7 PC and XP PC. So I fire up FireFox (FF) on the XP PC and type the following in the FF URL box.
[code]....
The same happens when I replace the Windows 7 PC IP address with the Windows 7 PC name.I tried to set up a network between the two PCs with the MS network wizard on the XP box. It made a setup disk with a single file on it. I was supposed to run the setup file on the other PCs that are supposed to be on the network but, whe I did, I got the following message.Cannot complete the Network Setup Wizard,An error occurred during the configuration of the network on this computer. You can configure the network manually.
Was told by a HP technician that I could setup a .wireless home network for the purpose of having my iPad and iPhone 4 connect to my D100 HP printer. View 5 Replies View Relatedeven though I have successfully added the network manually, using the same settings as my other laptop which has no trouble connecting. So now, the network appears in my "Connect to a wireless network" box, but whenever I try to connect, it says "Windows cannot connect to *name of network*" So when I troubleshoot the problems, it states "Check your wireless settings. Make sure your computer is in range of *Network* and that the network settings match the wireless router or access point settings." I KNOW it's in range because my other computer is connected properly right next to this one. So it must be a problem with my network settings. Though I don't see how that can be because my settings on both computers are exactly the same, but one's connected and one's not. Could the problem simply be that I haven't logged on to my router online to add this computer to the network?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed my new Cisco E3000 and configured it over the HTTP interface, as I have on previous routers. I am unable to find any setting for the "Guest" wireless network (outbound internet only), or the Parental controls. Both of these are features of interest, and they're simply not listed in any of the web-based settings.
Puzzled, I did a Factory Reset and configured it via the Cisco Connect instead.. this had the Guest feature and Parental controls, but none of the other features I need, like QOS, or Port Forwarding, or DHCP disable.
It seems like the Web interface only configures some settings, and the Cisco Connect configures other settings, but I can't use them both.
Where does one set up the additional password for Guest access? Other than this, the router works fine on 2.4 & 5 GHz, nice..
I'm trying to set up an Iomega Home Media Network Cloud NAS and I'm having problems with opening ports 50500-50599. I have opened port 80 and 443 successfully and included the above port range above as well, but when I check it on www.yougetsignal.com the ports 50500-50599 are still closed. I even tried to split the range in two parts, and still no success. I have been in contact with my ISP and confirmed they do not block any ports in the 50500-50599 range and that the cable modem (a Motorola SBV5120) is operating in Bridge Mode.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAny good solution to connect to TV and be able to browse internet wirelessly. I did some research and their were 3 categories:-1/Roku/Boxee kinds set up boxes where they have their own user interface, they connect without laptop and are economical but are limited in terms of conetent of internet you can see. I think you dont have the browser inbuilt with these, even if it there then it is genrally cumbersome to browse through their ever evolving interfaces.Additionally you cant view contents on your laptop(obviously you are not routed via a laptop!)2/USB wireless adapters like Warpia where you hook one usb enable device like a pendrive in your laptop and connect a small base to TV which is also wireless enable and then these two transmit A/V signals. Sounds great as then your laptop becomes the source and remote. this is closest to my need but i am not sure of over all practicality of the solution. 3/Nettops where you buy a cheap nettop and hookup the nettop to TV and use wireless keyboards and mouse to browse the contents on TV 4/I saw some gaming consoles like Xbox and PS3 offering the ability of browsing intenert over TV, though for this purpose this may not be the best solution...but this I considered due to price comparision with nettop.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a HP G62 Laptop that's less then a year old (replacing a Dell we had for several years without problems) and a 2Wire router with ATT DSL that we've also had for years. Ever since we've had the new laptop we've been unable to use the wireless without problems. Periodically, (maybe once an hour or so) if the laptop is connected wirelessly it will make the router disconnect from the internet and cycle off. The router lights all go red, it cycles back on, green lights come on and re-connects.I've had ATT run a line test, had them send technicians here 3 times, they've gone through the house and followed the line to the box, trimming branches on the way. I've gotten a new router and I've tried a USB wireless adapter for the lap top. However, as soon as the wireless is disabled and it's plugged in by ethernet all of the problems go away. This would be fine if it was mostly used at a desktop but it's mostly used on the couch/around the house and the ethernet cables get in the way and keep breaking.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOne moment the laptop was using the wireless connection from the router in our house and the next it lost internet access and then wasn't able to recognize the SSID or connection at all on the available wireless connections. We have reset the router and restarted the laptop countless times yet the only internet access we have is on the computer the router is hooked up to.The wireless connection works neither on the laptop nor the Wii, both previously works merely hours ago and with no problems until now.We assume there is an issue with the router itself, whether it be a loose ethernet cord (which only faintly can be moved in its place). It's almost as if the router is stopping them (Wii, and laptop) from having access. When we explore the wireless internet properties on the laptop, it shows the wireless connection, yet only there and doesn't give access to it. Could it be the router, or could the company have restricted WiFi only to the computer it is hooked up to?
