Wireless Connections Available But Cannot Connect
Mar 2, 2013
I am having the same problem with a new computer via my home wireless connection. The computer will not connect to the internet at all while at home, but it will connect to the internet in other locations (like at school). My other computer connects to the internet without a problem. The computer that isn't working can recognize that there are wireless connections available, but cannot connect. I got the same message "the default gateway is not available."

Virgin media superhub was swapped for a new identical one as some users were unable to connect, but my connection was fine. When i booted my system up after it was configured by virgin I could see all connections but clicking on any "connect" button doesn't yield any form of output from the computer. Password problem? I dont get a response whenever I click "connect" on any of the other 20 wireless connections that i'm picking up, none of them being mine. When trying to add a new network from "network and sharing centre" via "set up a new connection or network" button on the mainpage or "add" button on the "manage wireless networks" tab yields the same, absolutely no reaction from the system. Now, I only add this info for science of deduction purposes, because it is truly baffling me right now, but when i first discovered the problem and went into "devices and printers" in contr panel and "add a device" my computer paused and then BSOD'd.
Things I have tried:
Updated the network card drivers Ran start up recovery - no problems detected after 20x running Logged onto the superhub through another users system and added my mac address to allowed lists, reserved i.p. address - both on and off, all combinations Pressed the wireless card button on the back of my system on and off, repeatedly Disabled/enabled network adapters in device manager Run winsock and dns flushes, ip release and renewals (e.g. things like "netsh int ip reset; netsh winsock reset; ipconfig release;renew)
Each and every troubleshooter All the usual power issues, from setting maximum performance on the network card to unplugging and socketing the router main repeatedly Administrative tools-services-dhcp client-start&auto Tcp/IP protocols-ip and dns configured automatically?
*Haven't tried (last resorts)* Reinstall windows Remove, inspect and possibly replace or just refit network card and factory reset
Give Richard Branson a slap Observations/Details Everyone, EVERYONE else can connect to the network, no problem I have full strength signal to the connection I know the password and it certainly hasnt changed All we did was swap identical routers! Logged into my other windows on a partition (original user account, messy so partitioned and made a clean install, but this was long ago and no network issues ever existed) and have the old exclamation mark over signal bars - troubleshooting it causes nothing, but at least the adding network functions yields results and it says im technically connected to the router - ive tried all noted fixes above on this windows install also.

In my main office, I have a cable modem which is connected to my main E4200 router. All of my equipment (except my Ooma) is served by the E4200. The E4200 broadcasts a wireless network. In my basement, I have a Wii / entertainment center. The E4200 signal from upstairs isn't strong enough to stream video.
I bought the WET610N and have successfully set it up to interact with the E4200 wirelss network. I can hardwire my laptop to the WET610N and verify the internet works greatHowever, the Wii must connect over wireless. I have other equipment in the basement which would benefit from an internet connection. So, I want to A) connect the ESXS88W 10/100 8-port workgroup switch I have to the WET610N *AND* also broadcast a wireless signal in my basement (assuming the wireless network I see in the basement is the same "old" one from upstairs which has not benefited from the WET610N).
How can I set up my WRT54G2 to broadcast a wireless signal in the basement so that it leverages the E4200 signal served by the WET610N, while also having the workgroup switch offer hardwired connections to my other equipment (like Dish Network receiver)? It doesn't seem to work by just plugging the WRT54G2 into the workgroup switch.

I have been using a TP-Link wifi adapter for last two months, It worked flawlessly till a couple of days ago. It just so happened that i turned on my computer and even though the wifi connections were available, when trying to connect this message keeps showing up " Windows was unable to connect to UoC WiFi". I have tried everything from making a new wifi connection to changing usb-ports
FYI I use the same wifi connection on my netbook and android, and they are working fine, so it's definitely not a problem with the ISP.

Two days ago I booted my laptop and found that I'm not able to connect to the internet via LAN. It didn't detect a connection, even though my cable was plugged in. It was able to detect the wifi networks from my neighbors, but that's not an option, i need the LAN. I changed absolutely nothing, nno updates, downloads, ... It just came out of nowhere.I already eliminated a cable problem, the laptop from my roommate was able to connect without a problem. When I plug the cable in mine, the lights on the port flicker, making me believe that it's not a problem with my port either.it's definitely a computer problem, but I'm not sure if it's my computer or my network adapter that's being a PITA.When I go to the Device Manager, the network adapter (broadcom 802.11g) is fine, no red x or yellow exclamation point. i have already tried turning it on and off, and uninstalling and then rebooting, no avail.

We are planning 3 Internet Connections into our building. 1 will be for actual Internet traffic, 2nd for Voip phone system, and 3rd for internal network for Active Directory...etc. Oh the AD servers are controlled by another business so technically this line is still considered and outside line and is a T1. What I need to know is how best to make this all work so that our internet phones use the VOIP system, computers can log into the domain and access that network but use the Internet network for actual internet traffic? We were considering a series of managed switches and creating 3 VLAN's but I'm thinking we instead need a new router that all 3 networks connect to and dishes out DHCP to computers and phonesn example network is below.192.168.1.x ----> Internet (all computers use for internet traffic)72.10.10.x ----> VOIP (All physical and software phones use this network)10.10.10.x -----> Connection to external company that controls our network and has domain controllers, mainframe...etc.

I'd like to use 2 internet connections at the same time.Assuming there are two internet networks.Network A and Network B (both are either wireless OR one is wireless and one is wired OR both are wireless). So, now I want to use BOTH internet connections simultaneously. However, both connections will still be separate and not combined:If I had to transfer big files, then I could do this on network A.Now, I want to use network B for other "normal" internet use so that the transfer of files in network A gets the maximum speed since there is no interference with anything else.I have to let the computer know somehow that there are two connections used simultaneously. I also have to setup what programs use what connection. E.g., IE uses network a and Firefox uses network b, program "x" also uses network b, etc.I would use two network card/USB Wifi Adapers so that each network card/wifi adapter can connect to one network.

I have just moved homes and I am unable to connect wirelessly to the internet through the network in my new house. The computer is connected to the network with excellent signal strength but access shows as local only and will not connect to the internet.
All other computers have been able to connect to the internet with no problems, and my computer will connect to other wifi connections, no problem.I can connect with a wire directly to the router, but no luck with wifi. I have also had this problem with one previous wifi network. I have tried many things, including taking the compter to a computer shop for them to look at and having another professional look at it, but so far no luck.

I have a NAS connected to my network and all the computers/laptops can use it if connected via the ethernet (all use various operating systems, no static ip's). as soon as I try and use them on the wireless none of them will see the nas, they are all connected to the network and can use the internet, just no connection to the nas.My Router Ip is 192.168.1.1 and my nas IP is 192.168.1.254, I have tried setting the nas to automatically getting an ip from the router aswell but this still doesn't make any difference.

I lost connection to the wireless.I cannot find any wireless networks, which is obviously incorrect. The switch is plugged in. I can plug a cat-5 in and run fine. I can connect to the wireless with other machines fine. Something is up with this computer. I use Virtual Boxes on here and see that there is a "Virtual Box Host Only Network" that I've never noticed.I've disabled this but my wireless is still not finding anything.

I have a Fujitsu Lifebook Series E that used to connect to the internet but will not connect now. It will not recognize or list any wireless connections available. Actually, I can't even pull up an empty list of wireless connections available. It does have a local area connection but it says a network cable is unplugged. I know it may be a faulty wireless card but I don't know how to test it or, if it is bad, where the find it to replace it.

I just wiped and reinstalled the OS. i have updated everything from windows update including chipnet,.Net, flashed the bios, and did a scan, and updated drivers. i have tried to update drivers from the original CD.problem: I cannot seem to get the computer to realize it has an internal network card. there is no switch on laptop. i have tried manually updating drivers, performing scans, etc. when i go to Dell website, it says to go to network connections, and click on the Wireless Connection to set it up, but that option is not there (only LAN). i am on internet through LAN but cannot see anything wireless to set up.when i am finally able to see wireless options, i want to connect to my existing network, so i do not need to set up a new network.

I have a wireless router (an Actiontec PK5000) and two desktop computers that connect with USB wireless adapters. I'm looking for a way to stop one of those computers from connecting wirelessly, without disconnecting the other.I used to have a wired ethernet connection, but since I've moved my computer to a different room I've had to rely on a wireless connection. Previously, I shut off the wireless in the house whenever other people were hogging bandwidth, but now that's not an option, as it would shut me down too.

I have windows 7 PC. On the normal bases it has 3 internet connections 2 wireless and 1 hardwired. The 2 wireless are used for internet access and the hardwired is for my LAN through my router. The wireless connections are throught ATT mobile devices. I use my lan to share files through PC in my household and it has no internet access. The problem is that whenever I have all 3 of these connections connected windows always sees the hardwire connection as internet access so I can't use the internet even if my 2 other wireless connections are enabled. However, If I disable the Local area network connections and the leave 2 wireless connections enabled I have internet again.is there a way to just make windows use the hardwired connection as local and use the wireless connections for internet?

My laptop has suddenly stopped connecting wirelessly. Just fine with ethernet though. My Wireless adapter is enabled and showing fine in Device Manager and has the latest driver. Wireless Zero Configuration is enabled in services. I tried simply disabling and then re-enabling the wireless adapter but still no luck. I tried selecting the repair option for the wireless adapter and I get the exclamation in yellow triangle deal. I checked to see if I was having issues with firewall and that's not it either. When I click "View Available Wireless Networks" the dozen or so networks that use to appear are gone. I power cycled and reset my modem with no luck. I've also did an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew in CMD but nothing changed. I have not changed any wireless settings for my NIC or modem/router and don't understand what else I can do.

I have been having a peculiar problem lately with my wireless set-up. I have a very simple and standard setup. My main desktop pc is connected to my TP Link TL-WR841ND wireless router and that is connected to my issued Time Warner cable modem. In my room I have a desktop pc with a TP Link TL-WN722N wireless adapter and my brother has a PlayStation 3 in his room. For months I have had flawless wireless internet connection between my desktops and PlayStation 3, but for the past few days I noticed that when the main desktop is on it prevents my adapter and PlayStation from making wireless connections to the router.
The only time my desktop with the adapter and PlayStation 3 is able to connect is only when the main desktop is turned off or physically disconnected from the router. Now, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Ethernet driver, resetting both the modem and router, and setting everything up from square one to no avail. I know it has to be something simple but I'm hoping I won't have to format my main desktop PC.
When I log into the routers configuration page through internet explorer and check the Wireless Statistics page showing the currently connected wireless stations and packets, I have noticed that very few packets are being sent out, like the adapter and PlayStation 3 are being blocked by the desktop. I had Norton installed on it a week or two ago just to do a quick scan, then I uninstalled it.
