6100 - How To Track A Dynamic IP Address
Apr 12, 2011
how can I track a dynamic IP address. The reason why I am asking is because my dad lives about 40miles from me and I would like to logon to his computer from my apt and my dad is currently using frontier dsl connection with a westell 6100 modem. Is there any software or what do I need to do to configure this?

I'm trying to set my PC to have a Static IP but I'm having no luck. I've got it working before and was able to forward ports, but that was with my old PC.My problem is when I go into my wireless properties and change the TCP/IP settings from find automatically to custom settings, it says I need to reboot my PC. I do that but no matter what I do the settings are back to default, automatic settings when I reboot.The only difference between this new PC and the old one is that this one is using an SSD for my OS and a normal HDD for my Data.

Do not have internet connectivity, despite all the lights lit on calbe modem and the ASUS WL520GU router and only the internet and ethernet lights are lit on the Linksys 2102.Despite numerous reboots, no change and even bypassing the router and connecting directly to ATA still no conectivity.When I open a browser, it reverts to the Asus error page, "reason for failed connection: You have set the wrong dynamic or static IP address, though nothing was changed.Funny thing again, a direct internet connection to the ATA did nothing.A google search only just shows lots of unasnered posts on this issue, or only the usual 'please reboot'.

I'm having some trouble configuring 2 cisco routers (877) with ipsec vpn tunnel.The 2 of them are linked to the internet with dynamic adsl's - their ip-addresses changes all the time.when the configuration is based on ip addresses it's working ok, but when I'm trying to use host name with the DDNS feature, it's not coming up, I get a lot of errors...
I've searched google and various posts regarding that issue.It's seems like it's possible to do a dynamic-ip to dynamic-ip ipsec tunnel, but I found zero manuals and configuration.I've added the template that I'm using to configure the tunnel with ip addresses.

connecting a VPN with a dynamic IP address (its a Draytek 2700)We have a customer who has a PIX515E on the central site .Than there are more 2 sites where he installed 2 Draytek 2700 ,and contracted 2 fixes IP addresses for them.These are working fine and always did.In another site they are doing building renewals ,só they will not have ADSL for about 2 month,and they connected a 3G Internet access wich is connected to a Draytek 2710 ,internet wich is working fine,but doesnt have a fixed ip address.
I had search a lot in Cisco support pages,but i can´t find this solution,cause the examples are only to 1 dynamic peer ,not mixed(multiple fixed ip addresses + 1 or more dynamic)The PIX also needs to receive VPN connections from remote users who connect via Cisco VPN client(is working fine too) [code] I know now that when a communication starts from that dynamic peer to the PIX ,PIX doesnt know in wich group he should assign it.So the communication stops.i tried to create a group-policy...but i dont know how to associate it with the tunnel group.I also know that we can just associate 1 crypto map to each interface.

I have a high speed wireless DSL router from my ISP (Telus). I use one port off the router to connect directly to my desktop computer. Another port is connected to a switch to which ethernet cables to three other rooms are connected. My problem is that when I connect my Bell PVR (9242) to the 'switched' ethernet cable, I'm apparently not able to get a dynamic ip address, which the Bell unit requires, and can't connect to the network.can I connect another router, in place of the switch, to deliver dynamic IP addresses to whatever I connect to the ports in the other rooms in my house?

I think I'm missing a basic step here. In setting up a RV220W device behind either a cable modem or a DSL modem, the address that is being returned is not the public IP address of the modem, but rather the private IP address assigned by the modem to the RV220W. Doesn't matter for normal web access but trying to set up a VPN tunnel fails due to the inaccurate IP address.
If I do the same thing but use the dyndns.com application on a computer behind all of this (connected on the private LAN of the RV220W via cable), it reports the external IP address correctly. That works in some locations if I have an always on computer to load the application to. In some cases, however, there isn't such a computer to leave dedicated to running the separate program.
Since this works, and the RV220W doesn't, there is some difference between the Cisco implementation and the dyndns.com implementation.
So, is there a way to get the RV220W to return the true external IP address, or is it stuck returning a private address?

I am working with MS Windows 2008 R2 and a Belkin F5D8635-4v1 router.
I have already set up a dynamic IP address which points to my router at home. In my home network I have multiple PC's that I would like to access from the internet. I would like to achieve this without needing to change my port forwarding rules on my router each time...
My thoughts are that I use a single dynamic IP address pointed to my router. My router then forwards to a server with some sort of software that can then forward to the correct PC based on the host name.
So I have 3 domains set up all pointing to the router's IP address:
dest1.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
dest2.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
dest3.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
The router is not smart enough to redirect by host name, so it will just forward everything to 10.0.0.20 The server based at 10.0.0.20 must then have software to now redetermine the target based on the host name. The rules would be set up as follows:
dest1.domain.com -> 10.0.0.22
dest2.domain.com -> 10.0.0.24
dest3.domain.com -> 10.0.0.26

At my home I have a Westell 6100 DSL modem connected to a computer.AT&T is the ISP and all filters are installed.I use my home computer via VNC applications from a remote location and I began to notice that the VNC local client session was being lost,,,over and over.It was discovered that the WAN IP was changing over and over and happens about once every 5-10 minutes,,,or so. While I have a dynamic WAN IP from ATT, I would not expect the WAN IP to change as often as 7-8 (or more) times a day. At first I thought it was ATT changing my DYNAMIC WAN IP.But, a review of the Westell log file is reporting lost connection(s),,,,,etc, etc,,,,,etc. over and over.Below is a list of the Westell log information showing several hours of behavior.The Westell diagnotics that were run and the SELF test run as expected.Looks like the DSL modem is going bad, a filter is bad, or the line is going bad and needs to be balanced,,,,etc..
Code:
All Entries
CURRENT MODEM STATUS
DSL Modem Status....... Up
PPP Session Status...... Up
Connection Type......... PPPoE
Time set from............. Local

I'm unable to access the internet when I plug my modem (Westell 6100) into my router (Netgear WPN824). It works perfectly fine when I connect my modem directly to my computer though. It was working perfectly last night and for the last few years up until now.
I've tried sequencing, turning off my modem/router/pc while waiting two minutes in between each step but it doesn't work. I'm 100% sure the log in and password information to log in is correct (I use PPPoE to access the internet). I've tried resetting the router to factory settings and going through the setup but I get the same result. (Unable to connect)
OS: Windows XP
ISP: Verizon DSL/PPPoE
Modem model: Westell 6100
Router: Netgear WPN824

Okay, I know there has to be something I'm doing wrong because 3 months ago I set up the same modem & router to work. Being the idiot I am, I reset my router to change the password (dumb I know) and now the router can't pass the internet signal from the modem on! 1. I've set the modem to bride/bridge and unchecked the private LAN box.release/renewed IP2. Used the modem's MAC address in the router. . Made sure DHCP set to obtain automatically.4. Reset, restarted seperately multiple times.It looks like from the status page that the router is obtaining an IP but it won't connect to the internet

I'm running into the same problem. I'm trying to connect my 6100 Westell Modem as well, but I'm going through Cincinnati Bell Zoomtown. They sent me a disk & it does't have the right software on it. I was told to look online & have had no luck finding where to download. I have to use USB to connect. I'm at a loss at what to do. Have spent almost 3 hours on the phone with tech support at this point!

Earlier today I attempted to change the setting on my Westell 6100 modem such that it would simply bridge the connection to my Linksys WRT54GS router, basically involving setting the router to bridge only and turning DHCP off. Now I no longer get an internet connection through my router when previously the connection had worked perfectly fine before. I following the steps of cloning the MAC address to the router and have done the proper resetting steps (computer, them router, then modem) but I simply can't get an internet connection through my router. The process to set up simple bridging from the modem what supposed to end up with the internet light no longer turning on but the light turned back on following one of the resets.
Currently, I can connect to the internet through the modem just fine but I get nothing when I include the router. I'm not sure if there are some other settings I'm supposed to be changing as I can't seem to find anything past what I've already done when researching online. At this point I would just be happy reverting the settings I've changed but I don't know how to access the modem now that DHCP is off.Basically, I'd prefer to be able to get the router working with these new settings but if that proves too difficult (as I've heard it can be when trying to get Westell modems to work with Linksys routers) I'd like to learn how to access the modem and change the settings back to what they were (preferably in as simple terms as possible as I don't particularly understand what a lot of these settings/configurations do).(And a bit of an aside, but I had attempted to do this modem bridging to "fix" perceived internet speed problems. I've been averaging around 300Kbps download rates ever since I've had this internet connection from Verizon when the supposed download rates should be between 1MB and 1.3MB. Doing this modem bridging had been reported to fix some modem/router conflicts and improved connection speeds for some.)
