ASUS RT-AC66R - AP Smart Phone With Tether
Oct 28, 2012
My power is inevitably going out tonight.I have a generator, but the Cable Companies UPS's drop after 4 hours (it's been that way every single outage so far). So, I'll have to Tether.
My ASUS RT-AC66R can run in AP mode. Can I enable AP mode, have it connect to the Phone, and then the Asus feeds all my gear?If so, will it be wireless only or will it also bind to the Lan.

I've set up a new Server 2012 machine, and everything is going well except I can't remote web access to work.I have the ASUS RT-AC66R router (same as the RT-AC66U).First, automatic setup in Server 2012 Essentials fails. Doesn't surprise me as throughout the history of WHS it never worked right either But in the past I've always been able to set the route up manually in the router, and it was fine.
I've followed the MS instructions, routing port 443 to the servers static IP address. Still doesn't work.I know the server is capable because if I open a browser and hit it with the local NAT address of the server, remote access comes up fine.I also tried the direct public IP of my router, bypassing DNS, in case it was a host-name problem. Did not work.

Canon T3i hooked up to a laptop running ExtraWebcam and Yawcam.Yawcam running an HTML and Stream output to the network/web.I would like people to be able to access that video from the [the internet + network or internet or network] (those are the options/possibilities and the order in which I'd prefer).I am able to get people to access it via the network, but not the net. I'm using my Samsung Galaxy SIII on Sprint to tether (obviously not tethering if I'm only going to the network). Unfortunately, not only can I not access the stream via the internet, I can't even ping the phone.I'm pretty sure I need to open up/forward some ports, but I understand that that's not possible seeing as it's Sprint's network and not mine.
I will also have access to a local wifi network if there's a way to 'piggyback' off of that for web access to the stream even if I don't have access to the router control panel. I'm not sure if I'll have a hard wire connection to a router or not. I can, however, change the ports that the stream is set to.(also, I can bring a separate wireless router to connect to my tethered computer to open up the internet enabled stream to the network?)Given a laptop with a wifi card, a phone that can tether, a wifi network, and, if necessary, an extra wireless router, how can I stream from Yawcam and make it available to the internet if I DON'T have access to the wifi network's port forwarding? Note that I CAN edit the ports in Yawcam.

I have a couple of Droid Incredibles, and when I use them connected to my Wi-Fi (even tho I have unlimited data, the cell signal strength is not that high in my home -- I'd rather use the Wi-Fi) they'll run for 10-15 minutes, then hit a brick wall. Internet traffic stops, for all devices conected. ROuter has to be re-booted.url...but I also read some where in this forum that simply disabling AES would work.

I recently purchased a smart phone that can use my wireless access to get to the internet, however the phone cannot connect. I have verified that I am using the correct password and it is finding the network just fine, it just can't connect. I have had this problem with my laptops as well, but with them I just copied the key to a USB key and used that to get them going. I don't have that ability with the smart phone.
how to best troubleshoot this issue and resolve it? I have also reset the router to allow anonymous internet access with no positive result there either.

I have a Vostro 1400 and my OS is Windows XP. I just bought an Android Smart Phone, my carrier is Sprint.
I have portable ‘Hot Spot’ service. However, I can’t find a wireless program on my computer.
I swapped out my original hard drive after it crashed. I thought that I reloaded everything onto the new one.

Both my laptop and pc are completely up to date, but my pc does not have a wireless networking card, so i have been trying to tether the two using a usb cable.

i just bought an HP Officejet 4500 wireless all-in-one printer. i imagined this would mean that my laptop can print to the printer without a USB cable, but also that the printer itself would not have to "cable" to anything, but rather be wireless and located anywhere in the house. was i wrong? does this printer HAVE to connect physically with the router box?

I have an ASUS Z77 Motherboard and when I install the AI Suite II which comes on the installation disc it blocks my internet connection. When I uninstall the software my connection is fine. I am using an Ethernet connection by the way. I think it is being blocked by the component called Network iControl. As soon as that component is uninstalled my Internet connection comes back. I want to have the software, but I also want to have my connection.

I recently moved into a larger 2 story house, and for the first few months I was using a Linksys E1000 I've had for about 2 years now. It's a fine single band router, but the people upstairs and the xbox/PS3 in the living room didnt have the strongest connection.
I shopped around and finally got a ASUS RT-N66U for a really good, strong dual band router that would supposedly give better range and performance than my old E1000.
Unfortunately, since I got it everyone is having issues they never had before, namely:Signal dropping all around the house and having to search for the network much slower performance than before the xbox/PS3 cant hold a stable connection even for a few minutes now, when before you could watch Netflix HD programs easily
I've upgraded the Firmware to 3.0.0.3.178 since I heard earlier firmwares had issues, but other than that and opening my ports for qTorrent it is relatively stock settings.

I've just bought a new Samsung Smart TV but I'm having some trouble connecting to the wireless network. I have my SSID hidden, so had to enter the SSID + password manually but the TV came up with a message saying it could not connect. I have repeated this multiple times and none have worked at all. I have also tried pushing that little button on the side of the router (can't remember what its called but it lets you connect automatically to the network within a certain time window), and when this happened the TV began connecting, the network SSID showed up, but then a few seconds later it failed.I know the connection is fine as if I hold another wireless device (laptop, phone, iPod) where the TV is sitting they can connect and use the internet just fine.

I have a NAS (DLink) connected to my router, and my samsung smart TV. I currently use a Boxee Box for the family in another room, and it works great. However, I now want to be able to watch the movies (.mkv's) stored on my NAS, on my smart TV in my room. I want to be able to do so without leaving my PC on. The TV uses a Samsung 'dongle' to connect to my WiFi.

I have just bought a new Samsung Smart TV. Our wireless signal doesn't reach the room where the TV is so we have run a Cat 5e cable from my router to the tv. When I tell the tv to connect to the internet it turns off the receive, send and online lights on my Motorola SBG900 router. Sometimes, however it does connect, but this happens very rarely. I checked to see if it was a problem with the firewall settings but we have the firewall switched off in the router. When I connect any random laptop up to this same ethernet cable it accesses the internet no troubles.

I'm currently living in an apartment on my school's campus and I'm using their network for all my internet needs and such. One of my roommates recently bought a new Samsung Smart TV Model:PN59D8000F.The wireless here sucks so we've been hooking the ethernet up to the tv for internet access. It was working fine at first, but then all options on the tv requiring a network shut down. Now, when we first arrive at school our laptops are put into a remediation mode to make sure we have virus protection and all that good stuff, and I believe that might be what is happening with the tv's internet access. Not exactly sure,
TL;DR Tv is capable for internet access but network wont let it connect

I have a win7 system next to a smart TV. The win7 is connected to my network through wireless. A second port on the win7 is free.
I'd like to connect the smart TV using network cable to the free port, and set up a bridge so that it connects to the home network.
I tried using ICS. It workes only somewhat - I was able to get an IP address on the 192.168.137.x subnet, but the TV failed to connect to the gateway.
I am trying to use bridging to do the same. I configured the free port and the TV manually, to a 10.10.1.x network, and then I bridged the wireless and wired ports on the pc, (I modified the metric of the wireless to be lower than the wired port). This does not work either.

I am looking for a solution to block smart devices from connecting to our network via VPN. Our current VPN solution is ASA5520 and we are using Cisco ACS for user authentication. We use Cisco VPN client only, no anyconnect or SSL VPN. Management is looking for a way we can stop smart devices from using VPN clients to connect and only allow laptops/desktops to connect. Any way we can do this via ACS or another method?

I have implemented a Clientless SSL VPN solution with Smart-Tunnel feature on Cisco ASA 5520, software 8.4(4)1.I have been successful in making Bookmarks which employ Smart-Tunnel feature to avoid content rewritting (if any). And in reality it works fine with some links. However there are some links to an Oracle portal, it doesn't work.I was able to log into the Oracle portal with its username/password. However when i click into a button of the drop-down menu, nothing happens while normally there should be a box appearing. The Oracle portal runs with some Java stuffs which i don't really know as i am not a programming engineer anyway.

1. Apple extreme router. Newest model. Full updates.
2. HP media smart server 495 running WHS 2011. Upgraded memory. Very stable and full updates.
3. Typical Win7 gaming machine from last year. It was about $1200 at the time, no issues.
4. Cat5e cabling.
5. A gigabit switch, but both the win7 and server are connected to the router.
I'm only asking about WIRED issues. When I'm copying files from my computer to server using teracopy I'm only getting about 10-11 Mb. Consistently.
I had made a thread earlier about getting a new synology server but could I have a more fundamental issue? Reason I'm asking, I copied a file from my wireless laptop to my server and it was almost 1/2 the time for the same file from win7 to server. I'd love to get the synology but kinda hard to justify $1000+ when things seem to be stable.

i just got the Hawking HW2R1 and first i went through the setup as instructed but after all was done i tried connecting to the device from my computer. I was able to connect to the device but I didn't have any internet access (there was the little exclamation point next to the network icon). I know this is not due to internet problems with my router because my router (a Linksys befw11s4) has perfect internet connection. After this i called customer support. After an hour of talking to the person and going through many processes he says that we have tried all options available and told me about returning it.

Obviously I went through the procedures - Network settings, found my WiFi, typed in my Network password & unfortunately states: 'Unable to connect to the Wireless Router'. Taking into account my Virgin Media Router is directly next to my TV? The Wireless & Internet is 100% working as we have other devices running of it - I-pad, Laptop, Phones etc!

I am researching power adapters versus range extenders to bring the best signal to a new home theater so I can stream Netflix. I don't do much else (gaming etc...) and am not a tech person. I just want to enjoy movies in an area of my house that gets little or no signal. Didi I waste my money buying smart? Can I still do an ethernet connection off the power adapter? Should I put another router there instead--- off the adapter- so I can use the theaters wifi?
