Cisco Routers :: RV016 Admin Password Doesn't Reset
Dec 6, 2012I've used many Cisco RV042/082 and have just purchased a couple previously used RV016 units.The first think I do is hold down the "reset" switch until the units reset to factory and then proceed programming them - EXCEPT this last unit doesn't seem to be resetting the administrative password.The unit has reset so that it is 192.168.1.1 and is handing out IP assignments via DHCP in that range.
When I point my browser (IE9) to the web page http://192.168.1.1 I am prompted to log on. I enter 'admin' for user name and attempt to enter the same for the password. The browser returns me to the logon prompt and after a few apparently failed attempts it displays a 401 error Unauthorized page.
In desperation I have tried:
admin / admin
/ admin
admin / password
/ password
admin / rv016
and simply admin with a blank password.Isn't the admin password supposed to reset with everything else?If not - how can I - if it is, then what would be preventing the admin password from resetting - is there an internal jumper or something I could try? I don't care about preserving any setting obviously I just want access to the admin interface.

When I go to the support website, there are instructions to reset the network password, but you have to login to change the settings. The instructions say to leave the password field at the login blank but when I leave the field blank, I get an error message "Incorrect password. Please confirm your password and try again." So it seems I need the password to reset the password.

I usually have to reboot the router to get it to come back online. I did check the firmware version and it is the latest version 3.0 something, but it did say it was the latest?

Nov 3, 2012I recently got a Belkin N150 Enhanced Router Model F6D4230-4 V1. I upgraded it to the recent firmware.
I use it NOT to access internet, but only to hook up my desktop computer with my laptop and my tablet PC. I use Win7 Ultimate on both computers. I configured a Win7 home network and I managed to access shared files between the 3 devices.
However, the speed is very very low, not going over 1.5 MB per second , sometimes even less, although the signal strength is the maximum (54).
The distance between the laptop and the desktop is only 4-5 meters, in the same room. My laptop is HP Compaq 6710b which has what seems to be a "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection" .
Transfer speed is the same whether transferring from or to the laptop. I configured the laptop according to the instructions in the manual.

I can successfully connect to the internet directly from the modem or if I connect to the modem to the router and then to my computer via ethernet cable. I cannot for the life of me connect wirelessly with any devices. The router previously worked when it was hooked up to comcast internet, but it was moden->router->my router. When I connect wirelessly on my Windows 7 laptop, it says I connect and that there is internet access. But when I try to load a page it takes me direclty to this website: url.. Comcast says that it is my router that needs configuring properly with xfinity and wants to charge me $39 to provide this wonderful service.
