FSD 7632-4 Router.Have this 2006 router which has started dropping the connection and/or slowing it down intermittently. Before I replace it, would like to update the firmware. Have downloaded the update but cannot log-in on the setup utility page as I cannot remeber my password (apparently it is not set to blank!).
View 1 RepliesRecently been taking my Laptop installed with Win7 Pro to a Friends and was sharing his Wireless connection from Belkin ADSL2+ wireless router and notice that every now and again the wireless connection would drop out and the only way to regain a connection to the reset the router. My friends network has two laptops on it connected wirelessly with Windows XP home edition SP3, and a Desktop PC with XP also on connected to router Via Ethernet, also a Windows Home Server and XBOX 360 also connected by Ethernet, My friend since updated his laptop to Windows 7 Home Premium and is using the Wireless connection which now finds intermittent loss of connection which can only be restored by Resetting the Router. why a Router should lose connection just by connecting a Win7 laptop wirelessly or is there more to it than that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe old 615 has been working very well for some years now, but the last couple of days we have had to turn it off and on again to get internet. It has happened 3 times in the last 24 hours. The globe light on the router remains green, and the notification icon on windows 7 doesn't show any problems yet we cant connect to the web. I've been looking on the forum and trying to understand some of the solutions and checklists already posted, but they don't make a whole load of sense to me unfortunately.
The firmware on the router is 2.27. The only change I have made to the system is that my wife's lan card seems to have died a death last week, and her computer is now connected by wireless. My computer is now the only one connected to the router by a lan cable.
There is something I don't understand. Under setup / network there is a dhcp reservations section. Pretty much every device seems to have a reserved IP address, and some of the devices that are reserved we no longer own. My son does gaming and wants a constant IP address, and my computer might need a permanent IP (don't know - just guessing here). Should all the other computers be allowed to sort themselves an IP every time they log on? Most of the devices have expires never, and some of the devices have the blue link that I can click for revoke and reserve with a time by them.
Am I barking up the wrong tree here and this lot has nothing to do with the dropping connection? What do the revoke / reserve and times mean? What happens when the lease runs out? Will the connection drop on that computer and it will have to try and connect itself again, or does it start a new lease every time it logs on to the router?
I have a desktop computer and a laptop computer both running Windows 7 Home Premium. The desktop is connected to the router directly and the laptop is connected to the wireless network. When I restart both computers, I can see and access the other computer through the home network without problems. But after a while, sometimes just a few minutes, I can only see the other computer but cannot access it. Sometimes, I cannot even see the other computer. If I do a "ipconfig /release" and a "ipconfig /renew", it may sometimes correct the problem for a while.
I have looked at many related discussions on the web and none of the suggestions work for me.I have the firewalls disabled on both computers, as well as the ipv6 and IP service. I have also disabled the Bonjour service.I have turned a number of services, such as computer browser, server, workstation and many others to automatic as people suggested.
I have a belkin N300 router that works decent most of the time, but anytime my roommate connects with her macbook pro the whole network becomes slow to the point of uselessness. If i block her computer using mac address filtering, the latency and download speeds are right where they should be, but as soon as i allow her back on ping jumps to 800-1000 and DL speeds drop to under 1mb.

I took the router out of the system and the speed climbed to an average of 0.37. What is the problem with the router and what need I do to boost the upload speed with it in place?

When I work from home I connect to office networks on a Win7 machine via a Rackspace-provided VPN using Cisco System VPN Client 5. It works well, except for one issue that is costing me time every working day.
I get intermittently disconnected from the VPN, without any warning or apparent reason.
Since I bought the router 5-6 years ago I have had no need to update firmware, so other than ISP configuration I have had no need to change the router at all and I can say it's worked well for me.
What would be the reason for my VPN connection dropping? Is this an ISP issue (my ISP is Carphone Warehouse/TalkTalk) that I have to take up with them or is it more likely a hardware problem with my router or a VPN configuration issue?
My instincts are to not look into VPN config at the moment as I know a colleague who uses the same VPN through a different router and ISP can stay connected for hours, even overnight.
My F5D8231-4 (N1 Wireless Router) keeps shutting down its wireless broadcast. If I reset back to factory settings it comes back on but then I have to setup again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco WRVS4400N on the latest firmware and I have just had my Virgin internet connection upgraded to the 100Mb. Once i thought it was upgraded i checked with a broadband speed test and it came back as 15Mb download and 5Mb upload. Before i rang Virgin i thought i'd check with a direct connection from my pc straight to the modem. Ran the speed test and it came back as 100Mb download and 5Mb upload. I thought the best thing to do is restore my settings back to factory and its still the same.

This only happens on the PCs using the private subnet but the internet is fine. We don't have any problems with shares on the public subnet though.Private subnet goes through a proxy server to reach the internet.Recently we had an internet outage in the building and suddenly shares weren't dropping or running slow anymore.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed the RV220W Router in my office about 2 weeks ago and everything works perfectly for 3-4 days but then my connection drops out and the router must be restarted to restore connectivity. When I say the connection drops basically the internet connection drops out and my network connections drop shortly thereafter. Usually the wireless connections lose connectivity followed within a few minutes by the wired connections.
Is there something in my firewall settings that could cause this issue? I have checked with my ISP to verify there are no problems on their end.
For eight months we have not had any problems with our new WRVS4400N (V2.0.2.1) connected to a Verizon/Westell 6500 to provide DSL internet for our network with DHCP on our server... No changes have been made to the router or modem since initial setup; but, then it started -- Our internet connection would drop intermittently. Sometimes every 5 or 10 minutes - sometimes every hour. Verizon has tested the lines which came up ok, then they sent a tech who changed the wire pair coming into the building for the DSL line and retested the lines which again came up ok, then they provided us with a new modem (now a Verizon/Westell 7500). After all that, the DSL still connects then disconnects intermittently. I am now wondering if the issue lies with the WRVS4400N.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently changed my internet connection from a very slow adsl connection (im a LONG way from the exchange) to a moderatly faster vdsl connection. With the upgrade, they force me to use a modem that looks like it was made 20 years ago (although they say its had all the internals upgraded a month ago) leaving me to use a seperate router for wireless signal. I bought a bellkin F9K1002 v3 and after a little hassle had it up and running, the network connection between all the systems is great, but the router drops the internet connection every 30-120 seconds, for 15-20 seconds each time. I have about 10 devices connecting, but problem is there with just 1 connection wired or wireless.
I've tried calling my ISP (who will not touch router settings) and belkin tech support (who sound like they touched their first computer about 22 seconds ago) with no improvement. I've connected directly to the modem and had perfect connection for 12 hours, ruling it out of the equasion. I've disconnected all systems but one at a time, trying on 3 systems, with no improvement. I've turned off firewall, WPS, tried multiple wireless settings (channels and such) updated firmware all with no improvement. Here's a sample of the system log on the router:

We have a Cisco ASA and recently purchased a cisco small business srp527 router. It is connected to our ADSL2 connection and is working fine. I have configured the device with an ipsec tunnel using an ike profile and the tunnel is created successfully with packets traversing the tunnel. However packets are being dropped intermittently, with no cause. The link is currently not being utilised, there is no load on the network however when I ping Google and any address subject to the rules of the tunnel i notice that a single packet is dropped every now and then.

The install seems to have gone fine and the firmware has been updated to the latest version. PCs/laptops/PS3s/phones can all connect to the router both wired and wireless. But the modem seems to be dropping its connection to the internet at regular intervals - sometimes every 15mins, other times less. The security log mentions "PPPoE disconnected" after which it reconnects.Has anyone got an idiot proof list of what I should be checking? My old Net gear DG834PN does not have this problem at all so it really has to be the router rather than the line - at least that is my guess.

I used to have slow internet with verizon so i changed to comcast and after i changed to comcast this problem started, when i called comcast they said that it has to be interference from an unknown source. I have a Wireless-N 150 Router model WNR1000v2 and it came with a modem. Things i have tried are changing my security to WPA2-PSK[AES] which it saiid would increase my connectivity..did not, i have changed my channel also didnt solve the problem. I have had this problem with 2 different routers and modems so far. And i have 2 desktops and 2 laptops connected to this. 1 desktop is hooked straight into the router and the other 3 are wireless.

I am using a wired Ethernet connection and as said when someone connects either via WiFi or also through a wired connection, the internet for me will drop as soon as the device is connected, and then randomly every 20 minutes or so thereafter. I should also mention that rarely the connection will just drop for again, 5-10 seconds even when nobody else is connected.I tried my computer at someone else's house using their router and it worked fine, no disconnects at all.

The ethernet cable is connected to a LAN port on the first router and the internet port of the second router. This works fine and creates a second network that I can connect to the net on. The problem iseemingly randomly, about every 15 minutes, the second router will lose internet connection. My laptops and phone still stay connected to it, but windows lists it as having no internet connection. If I then wait a couple of minutes and reconnect, internet will be working again.

Now the link between the router WAN port and the modem randomly drops. Stays dropped for 1-3 secs and then connect again. When its really bad this happens with 5-10 secs intervall. This made it impossible to use the network from any of the devices.If I disconnect the CPU from the router and connect it direcly to the modem and change the IP settings to match the modem network the CPU connects without errors to the internet, iPad and iPhone connected to the router keeps having problems.Restarting the router does not change anything and it seems to be more frequent errors during heavy load hours, in the morning I have almost no problems at all, in the evenings I cant almost use the wireless devices (CPU works fine as its now connected directly to the modem not through the router).I havent changed a setting in the last year, it just came right out of the blue.I have hard reset both the modem and the router and reconfigured them (that I dont want to do again as I have some virtual servers, port forwards, port triggers and so on :P).As it came right out of the blue without me changing anything on any device and as it seems to be more frequent during heavy load hours I'm suspecting that the ISP is involved, but how can they be (it works fine with devices connected straight to the modem)?
The firewall on my RVS4000 appears to hang when ever I use Netflix. If I disable the firewall and re-enable it it works for a while and then stops again. My IP address is in the Approved Client IP Addresses so it is excluded from the URL filtering and Web reputation rules.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a RV082 Linksys router and at the moment it is slowing down my internet connection by a significant amount. With the router, I get about 3 Mbps and with a modem directly connected to my computer I get about 24 Mbps. Before with the router I used to get 15 Mbps, which is understandable because it is connected to 4 computers total. Maybe my setup has something to do with it. I got a cable that is connected to a modem, the modem is connected to the router, from which one port is connected to a computer, and another is used to connect to a Netgear switch, which in turn is connected to 3 more computers.
Everything was fine until I went on a trip and wasn't home for about 2 weeks, and when I came back, this happened. I tried restarting the modem, the router and all to no avail. I also tried to do a factory reset on the router and again got slow speeds.
I'm using a Linksys E1500 on my Timewarner 20Mbs connection and I've noticed that anytime another computer on my network connects my connection speed take a significant drop. This happens when Macs or PCs connect and there doesn't seem to be any common ground between any of them. In addition the connection is slow wether the other PCs are idle or downloading anything, it seems to make no difference. my ping in any game drops from 70 to 500 just for 2 other PC being on at the saem time on the network.

-E4200 connected via Ethernet cable (100Mbs) to local ISP for internet access
-E4200 connected via Ethernet cable (1Gps) to my desktop PC
-E4200 connected via wireless (5Ghz with WPA2 personal) to my laptop
In general, everything works fine, I can download files from internet to my PC close to the maximum speed limit (80-90Mbs), the wireless connection goes up to 300Mbs and it can achieve around 10-14MB/s file transfer between PC and laptop.A lot of the time the wireless connection to my laptop is used for HD content streaming from the desktop PC. It works very well until I start downloading files to my PC with speed greater than 50Mbs, when the wireless connection speed drops very fast to about 500KB/s which results in interruptions on the video streaming. At the same time the router’s web interface reacts much slower than usual, as if the router’s CPU is overloaded.
I’ve read this follow up review on Small net builder url...and it’s clear that there are some issues when taking E4200 to the limit, but in my case it’s nowhere near that.
