I am connecting a uc320w to sbs2011 - and having the server do the dhcp - but the Cisco box can't connect to the wan - but it's been fine before I set changed the topology - do I need a static ip address for the wan

I've searched for data on the topic and I can't make sense of it.I think I made the correct selection by un-selecting 'Use Unicasting.'

On my new E4200v2, after I tried to move beyond the disappointment of Cisco removing Internet Access Policy entirely, I decided to give the stripped down Parental Controls a try.
Sadly, I didn't have any luck doing what I needed to do... block my Tivo's from accessing Youtube.
I enabled Parental Controls, Added the Target Devices (my Tivo's did show up), and added "Youtube.com" as blocked site #1. Saved. Entered the parental password when prompted. Even rebooted the router.
But Youtube wasn't blocked. So I added to the target list a non-Tivo device (a Macbook) for a reality check, and rebooted the router again... still no luck. Youtube still not blocked.
So then I started to wonder if their Parental Control depends somehow on the local DHCP server & Client list. Because my E4200 has DHCP Server = OFF (I have always used a Windows Server for DHCP).
I tried to call Linksys support to get this working, but after 45 mins, including escalation to senior engineer, they really were pretty useless (no real familiariarity with my problem) then they disconnected my call!
I have the e4200 and I am having trouble getting DHCP reservation to work properly with my Windows 7 machines. Perhaps there is a step that I am missing. Basically I go to the DHCP reservation setup page, select my machine and add it to the reservation table. Then I save the changes. As soon as I do this my computer goes offline. If I reboot my machine, it is still offline. I've tried the same procedure to reserve the IP address for my phone and it works fine so I wonder if the problem is with Win7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy DIR 655 is refusing to act like a router and more like a normal switch. Anything involving the router side of things(DHCP,firewall,wireless, etc) does not work.
Basically when it powers up the blue power light comes on and that's it. If I plug my cable modem into the wan port then this light comes on with nothing else. If I then proceed to plug a cable into Lan 1 I get the address of my cable modem assigned to my computer and all internet access is fine. As opposed to being assigned an address from the router's DHCP. If I plug a cable from another router into any of the lan ports on the DIR 655 then I get assigned addresses from that router's DHCP and all internet access is routed through.
Here my network.dsl provider-->d-link modem (dhcp server, 192.168.1.1)-->X2000 (dhcp replay, 192.168.2.1(LAN IP))--> My laptop - X2000 config: dhcp replay: 192.168.1.1, LAN1 from d-link to WAN x2000 (blue rj45), X2000 have ip address from d-link. but my laptop can not receive ip address. X2000 is not gateway modem because it stuck after 1 day work. Can access to Web config page and internet.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have been using a dhcp and tftp server to automatically configure branch WAN routers such as 1751's and 1841's for years but, have recently purchased a 1921 and 1941 as possible next generation replacements. The problem is when the 1900 series power up instead of getting a dhcp address directions to the tftp server it boots up and asks for the user name to be immediately changed or you will be "locked out". Any workaround to this so that I can again go back to download my common configuration? Or any other way of automatically configuring the newer version ios? Doing extra steps for 500 WAN branch routers is time consuming. Doing configurations without automation for that many is moving in the wrong direction.

Have a client wanting to hand out public ip addresses to all clients from a PFSense Firewall terminating the internet connection.
How do I allow the Cisco Switches currently in place, configured with private ip addresses in the 10.10.x.x ranges and Vlans, where the main 3550 layer 3 has defined dhcp scopes for each vlan, to relay dhcp requests from all vlans to the PFSense firewall?
I assume I would take off the currently defined dhcp scopes for the vlans and configure each vlan/switch with the ip helper address and specify the PFSense firewall and that Nat would have to be disabled onthe firewall?
I know that the routers communicates using routing protocols and that they forward the ip packets. So I looked in the IP header and the RIP header(for example) and I don`t understands when an packet comes in how does the router understands it`s type? (There`s no byte field to tell him explicitly that this is an ip packet or a rip message)
