I have a 2851 and a 1841 both serving as hub routers in a GRE multipoint configuration. They are both receiving buffer misses and failures on startup. I will post the output of show buffers below:
LAB-HUB-RTR#show buffers
Buffer elements:
607 in free list (500 max allowed)
9071 hits, 0 misses, 618 created
Public buffer pools:
Small buffers, 104 bytes (total 71, permanent 50, peak 71 @ 00:11:33):
68 in free list (20 min, 150 max allowed)
7083 hits, 74 misses, 0 trims, 21 created
55 failures (0 no memory)
[code]....
I have tried increasing the small/medium buffers initial size and permanent size, however there is no change. The buffer failures for small and medium buffers are always around this many every boot.I have also changed the IOS versions between 12.4.24(T4) to 15.1 with no luck in stopping the failures.
I have a 2621 router, because I want an image of about 21M, I upgraded as follows:
IOS = 32M
RAM = 64M
ROM VERSION = 12.2
However, when I power up my router, it goes into a boot loop, and I see the following messages:
NOT ENOUGH MEMORY IN THE SYSTEM TO RUN THIS IMAGE
***SYSTEM RECEIVED A SOFTWARE FORCED CRASH***
how to overcome this error, and successfully upgrade, so I could load my new image?
I recently obtained a 2851 and have been battling this issue for a week now. An odd set of circumstances happen with the bootstrap startup process. If the router has loss of power or when reloaded; it fails to read the CF card and boots to rommon. I can tftp an image to it (tftpdnld -r) and IOS CAN read the flash card along with any saved configuration. In fact once in IOS, I can wr mem and print the hardware details of the CF card. Once I reload the router it goes to rommon, fails to open the flash, then sits until i tftp the image back. When the router load IOS, it also loads the startup config.I don't think it's a problem with the CF card as IOS can read it. I've tried formatting the card from IOS and from my pc as FAT, FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS - it didn't make a different. I updated the ROMMON to allow for USB booting but haven't purchased a USB Drive yet for testing. The upgrade didn't resolve this issue either. It almost seems like a firmware problem with the EPROM.
View 7 Replies View RelatedCisco router 3945 when unpacked from the box and powered on , it was not able to find boot loader image and booted in ROMMON mode. tried to boot from the external flash and tftp but still not able to.
We replaced router chassis 2 times and both the times faced the same problem.
I've got a 2621XM that has not been used for a while.Completely stripped of any modules and configuration files, the router will continually cycle the startup process without actually booting from the IOS.
The cycle displays the following :
System Bootstrap, Version 12.2(8r) [cmong 8r], RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Copyright (c) 2003 by cisco Systems, Inc.
program load complete, entry point: 0x80008000, size: 0x10034ec
What I've tried:
1) Downloading another IOS image (c2600-is-mz.123-20.bin) via Xmodem and running "confreg 0x2102" from the rommon. All that did is change the last message to "program load complete, entry point: 0x80008000, size: 0x10fa95c"
2) Running the command "boot flash:c2600-is-mz.123-20.bin". If I enable the diagnostics via rommon, the cycle expands to:
System Bootstrap, Version 12.2(8r) [cmong 8r], RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

program load complete, entry point: 0x80008000, size: 0x10fa95c

If it wasn't for the lack of error messages, I would assume it was a hardware issue. If the image was corrupted, I would expect a message indicating that the image couldn't be read.
I've had a Belkin N+ wireless router for about 5 months. I reset the router recently (using the reset option on the router itself) and now it doesn't boot up. The lights at the front flash as if its going through its boot sequence but it never stops. I left it for 2 hours while I went out and when I came back it was still going through the boot sequence.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've inherited a 7206VXR router and it takes very long to boot. It outputs READonly ROMMON initialized to the console and 14 minutes later it continues the boot process. After 17+ minutes the boot is complete with the correct full image. The processing engine I have is the NPE-G1 and I'm looking for an upgradeable ROMMON image or a reason why the boot is taking this long.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat would happen if I installed a 32MB (MEM870-32F=) flash upgrade card in to a Cisco 871 router that already had 28MB flash on-board already? Would the router boot seeing 52MB (the max this router can have) or would it fail completely since the combined total would be over 52MB?
I know you can get a 24MB upgrade card but they are quite expensive.
I have a 2 computers connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 router which is connected to a Verizon Westell DSL/Cable modem. From time to time the Ethernet link between the modem and the router spontaneously disconnects. I can reconnect the link by going to the setup menu on the router with a browser @ 192.168.1.1 Sometimes I have to do an ipconfig/release and renew to fix the link. Sometimes I have to power cycle the PC and the modem and the router.Currently this disconnect problem has gotten much worse. It occurs about every 15-20 minutes while I'm connected to the net. It also occurs when either computer is booted or turned off (I see the link light on both the modem and the router flash red for a moment).

Since the restart it has never stopped cycling the boot sequence without end. The download lights cycle and the router light flashes constantly. And I am unable to connect to the router page at 192.168.2.1 So I cannot reset the router, the hardware reset button just momentarily pauses the endless booting process.

View 7 Replies View RelatedLast night we had some pretty bad lightning and thunder and our Linksys WAG160N appears to have had a bit of a fright. As I was going round unplugging items in case of a hit (this was after a flash or two, relatively nearby), all the lights on the router were off except for the ethernet light (plugged into a Linksys homeplug adaptor). Now the router doesn't appear to boot. When powered on, the power light doesn't flash or anything to indicate booting up, all you get is the ethernet light (if connected) after a few seconds, but no activity. I'm presuming something has been fried or corrupted? I'm not sure if we did have a power spike either through the mains or phone line as all other equipment seems to be fine, but I'm wondering the the homeplug connection might of had something to do with it after reading a few posts from others on the subject.I've held in the reset button while starting and it doesn't appear to have done anything. I will try the 30/30/30 reset tonight.

What's the difference between the 2 commands and if this would achieve the said change. I've checked using the show interface it's still showing MTU of 1500 bytes.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco 1841 router equipped with a serial interface and an ISDN BRI interface installed. The router has stopped suddenly responding and no display is beig obtained when trying to access the router through the console port.I have check the router LEDs and they display the following:
SYS PWR - It is showing solid green which means the router is receiving power, and the internal power supply is functional. It is not blinking green as is normally the case when the router is rebooted.
SYS ACT - It is showing solid green. It should normally be blinking green showing that the system is actively transferring packets and monitoring internal activity. CF - It is showing solid green. It should normally be off indicating that the CompactFlash memory card is not being accessed or be blinking green showing that the CompactFlash memory card is being accessed.
I have even replaced the CompactFlash memory with another one and removed the two WICs installed but the router still fails to initialise properly and respond through the console terminal program. how the router can be further troubleshooted or if it can be repaired?
