Jan 12, 2013I have a cisco1841 router with 32M CF card installed.Now , i want boot a system image larger 32M from usbdisk.First i insert the 128M usb flash disk to the 1841 router and format it, then i can see the device from dir command.Second copy the larger ios image from tftp to the usb disk and successed,i can see the image with " dir usbflash0:" command.Third i use this command "boot system " ,but there is no selection of "usbflash0: " Does the cisco 1841 router boot the system image from usb disk when reboot the router.

Cisco WAN :: 2851 And 1841 / Buffer Failures On Boot?
Oct 17, 2012I have a 2851 and a 1841 both serving as hub routers in a GRE multipoint configuration. They are both receiving buffer misses and failures on startup. I will post the output of show buffers below:

I have tried increasing the small/medium buffers initial size and permanent size, however there is no change. The buffer failures for small and medium buffers are always around this many every boot.I have also changed the IOS versions between 12.4.24(T4) to 15.1 with no luck in stopping the failures.

Dec 15, 2012I am using Solawinds syslog and trying to get our Cisco routers send syslogs to our syslog server. I followed the procedure on Configuring Cisco Devices to Use a Syslog Server from [URL] Our Cisco swtches are all sending syslog messages but not the routers. I compared the config with our access switches but can't seem to find the problem:

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1841 - Unable To Ping Remote Gateway Or Hosts On Other Side Of Router
May 30, 2012I am just setting up a simple scenario with a 1841. Server @ 172.31.1.1 cannot ping 172.31.0.254 or 172.31.0.105. It can ping 172.31.1.250. The router can, on the other hand, ping devices on both networks. This is just for testing routing theory so I don't know why hosts on either side of the network cannot ping each other.
I am only using the FastEthernet interfaces on Router 1841.

Oct 22, 2012I can see the boot file at 192.168.100.1 but I can never get into the GUI. The unit boots up, fans running. Eventually the power light flashes red. I don't have the unit hooked up to anything else except a laptop to try and configure it.

May 26, 2012Customer is using SUP720 with SP rommon image version 8.1(3), he is trying to boot the new ios image from disk0, but he gets invalid magic error. he fomat the disk0 but still he gets error when he boots from disk0. He suspect that it can't be flash problem but can be software of hardware as he has two flash with same issue on 2 switches.
Customer wanted to recreate, I tried in the lab, i was able to load from disk0, but sup in lab had 8.5(4).
Customer wanted me try with 8.1(3) version. But i was unable to downgrade the SP Rommon image. SP rommon is running in Gold region and I loaded the 8.1(3) from both disk0 and sup-bootdisk, even preferrence was given to region1 but still sup came up with gold region itself.
* Will i be able to downgrade from 8.5(4) to 8.1(3), if so, what are the steps.
* is there any limitation or bug where 8.1(3) will be unable to read disk0.

Aug 25, 2012I have been experiencing a strange problem i have a switch stack of 3750 in which 4 switches are cascaded. there is one one switch shows PROVISIONED status when I run "show switch". i have verified the stack cable connectivity its OK.
now when i try to console that particular switch i am unable to access it as well. I tried to reboot that switch and on reboot it only shows one LED syst blink once and after that remains constant and nothing happens to other LEDS. from the back of the switch FAN is working fine.

Sep 11, 2012I am in the process of upgrading our stack of 4 switches consist of WS-C3750G-48PS. Upon reading release notes found that there are two versions of release notes 1 day apart, the one 02 Sep 2012 saying that WS-C3750-48PS is not supported in this version. Then in release next day 03 Sep 2012 that note has been removed. Which one is correct. Is it supported with my model of switch or not.also unable to update boot path in the stack switches, "switch all" is not supported in the current IOS. Master switch has new boot path but unable to change in slaves.

Jun 16, 2011I've got an existing Cisco 1841 connecting to a 10Mbps Internet Leased line. With my current setup I've configured PAT for internet access for my users, and we also have some servers on site which are assigned public ip addresses, these can be accessed from the internet. Now we have procured a Cisco 1921 ISR to replace the old 1841, when I connect the 1921 with an identical configuration in place of the old router, 2 things happen.
1) The users accessing the net via the nat are able to work without any inconvenience (good)
2) My servers which have public IP addresses are unable to reach the internet and subsequently I am unable to reach them via the internet (very bad)

Feb 24, 2011I'm unable to connect to the internet?My university gave us student permission toset up a cisco lab. I hve an 1841 router and a 2950 catalyst switch in a single room. Fa0/1 is conncted to the switch using a 192.168.3.0 /24 network. DHCP is correctly assaigning ip addresses to the switch.
I connected the Fa0/0 port to the wall and used the following command to obtain an ip on the Fa0/0 port: ip adress dhcp. I used the following route command: ip route dhcp. That didn't work so I used the ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Fa0/0.When I run the sh cdp neighbors command I see a multilayer switch that show me connected to the Ga2/26 port with ip:192.168.179.254.I also see that the default vlan is 200 and the voice vlan is 800.
A linksys router is about to let us access the internet. I am able to ping the 192.168.179.254 address from the 1841 router.What am I missing to connect to the internet.I forgot to mention that I successfully receive an ip from the wall. The latest ip I received was 192.168.179.100 /24.

IOS = 32M
RAM = 64M
ROM VERSION = 12.2
However, when I power up my router, it goes into a boot loop, and I see the following messages:
NOT ENOUGH MEMORY IN THE SYSTEM TO RUN THIS IMAGE
***SYSTEM RECEIVED A SOFTWARE FORCED CRASH***

Cisco Infrastructure :: 2851 Router Not Boot From CF
Nov 12, 2012I recently obtained a 2851 and have been battling this issue for a week now. An odd set of circumstances happen with the bootstrap startup process. If the router has loss of power or when reloaded; it fails to read the CF card and boots to rommon. I can tftp an image to it (tftpdnld -r) and IOS CAN read the flash card along with any saved configuration.In fact once in IOS, I can wr mem and print the hardware details of the CF card. Once I reload the router it goes to rommon, fails to open the flash, then sits until i tftp the image back. When the router load IOS, it also loads the startup config.I don't think it's a problem with the CF card as IOS can read it. I've tried formatting the card from IOS and from my pc as FAT, FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS - it didn't make a different. I updated the ROMMON to allow for USB booting but haven't purchased a USB Drive yet for testing. The upgrade didn't resolve this issue either. It almost seems like a firmware problem with the EPROM.

Nov 27, 2011I've got a 2621XM that has not been used for a while.Completely stripped of any modules and configuration files, the router will continually cycle the startup process without actually booting from the IOS.
The cycle displays the following :

What I've tried:
1) Downloading another IOS image (c2600-is-mz.123-20.bin) via Xmodem and running "confreg 0x2102" from the rommon. All that did is change the last message to "program load complete, entry point: 0x80008000, size: 0x10fa95c"
2) Running the command "boot flash:c2600-is-mz.123-20.bin". If I enable the diagnostics via rommon, the cycle expands to:

If it wasn't for the lack of error messages, I would assume it was a hardware issue.If the image was corrupted, I would expect a message indicating that the image couldn't be read.
Belkin N+ Wireless Router Won't Boot?
Mar 11, 2011I've had a Belkin N+ wireless router for about 5 months. I reset the router recently (using the reset option on the router itself) and now it doesn't boot up. The lights at the front flash as if its going through its boot sequence but it never stops. I left it for 2 hours while I went out and when I came back it was still going through the boot sequence.

Jan 12, 2011I've inherited a 7206VXR router and it takes very long to boot. It outputs READonly ROMMON initialized to the console and 14 minutes later it continues the boot process. After 17+ minutes the boot is complete with the correct full image. The processing engine I have is the NPE-G1 and I'm looking for an upgradeable ROMMON image or a reason why the boot is taking this long.

May 30, 2012What would happen if I installed a 32MB (MEM870-32F=) flash upgrade card in to a Cisco 871 router that already had 28MB flash on-board already? Would the router boot seeing 52MB (the max this router can have) or would it fail completely since the combined total would be over 52MB?
I know you can get a 24MB upgrade card but they are quite expensive.
Linksys BEFSR41 Router Disconnects On Boot?
Jan 20, 2011I have a 2 computers connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 router which is connected to a Verizon Westell DSL/Cable modem. From time to time the Ethernet link between the modem and the router spontaneously disconnects. I can reconnect the link by going to the setup menu on the router with a browser @ 192.168.1.1 Sometimes I have to do an ipconfig/release and renew to fix the link. Sometimes I have to power cycle the PC and the modem and the router.Currently this disconnect problem has gotten much worse. It occurs about every 15-20 minutes while I'm connected to the net. It also occurs when either computer is booted or turned off (I see the link light on both the modem and the router flash red for a moment).
