Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 / 1800 / 3825 - Routing Configuration
Aug 15, 2011
I try to setup a ASA5510, but without success. Actually, I have Cisco1800(192.168.96.1/21) from my ISP connected to a Cisco 3825 (via port with IP 192.168.96.2) all is working good. Now I want to insert a asa firewall between ISP router and 3825.
For that, I tried a more simple config :
ISProuter (192.168.96.1/21) ---- ASA outside port(192.168.96.2/255.255.255.248) ASA INSIDE port (192.168.100.1/255.255.255.0) --- a pc with IP 192.168.100.2, netsmask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.100.1
From my ASA, I can ping 192.168.96.1. but a "ping INSIDE 192.168.96.1" fail
from py pc, can ping 192.168.100.1, but not 192.168.96.1
Here, my ASA config :
ASA Version 7.0(8)host name cisco asa
enable password 8Ry2YjIyt7RRXU24 encrypted
password 2KFQnbNIdI.2KYOU encrypted
names dns-guard
!
interface Ethernet0/0
shutdown
no nameif
no security-level
no ip address
[code]....

I have aaa new model configured on a number of isr's(1800, 1900, 2900, 3800 etc). When i have aaa configured, the telnet logins use that authentication and not the password in the line vty portion. Is this by design. would disabling aaa enable both telnet and aaa authentications, essentially making it a dual login.

I have 30 IP cameras with a private IP address: 10.1.1.1 – 10.1.1.30. I have a Cisco ASA 5510 firewall. I want to be able to use one public IP address, example, 50.50.50.50
With a specific port to go to a different internal camera,
Example
50.50.50.50:3001 should be NATTED to camera 10.1.1.1
50.50.50.50:3002 should be NATTED to camera 10.1.1.2
[code]....
How do I do this? I know how to create NAT… just not like this.

Is there a document that explains how the configurations are updated to the standby ASA and what needs to be manually added tot he ASA? I have two ASA 5510 running ASA ver 8.3(2) and ASDM 6.4(1). When I add static routes to the primary ASA the routes are not sent to the failover ASA. Is this to be expected or do I have a bug?

Have a 5510 in Routed mode, simple Static NAT to interface two networks (inside_1 is my private space, and outside_1 the larger intranet that hosts heavy traffic). outside_2 faces internet via pppoe just for VPN purposes.
It was operating fine for one year then one port broke (outside_2, internet), leaving no vpn. We followed RMA service replacement and the new unit came with upgraded SW (8.0.4) than the one the original config was created on (8.0.2).
To ease the replacement, I did downgrade the sw boot image. Then I did restore the config by tftp to the startup-config and then a reload. Everything seems to load fine.
Problem is that testing reveals some sort of issue: I can ping some of the intranet hosts but can't reach gateway, thus larger segment of hosts become unreachable. It seems as if the NAT mechanism can't find the next gateway where to hop. For debug practice, I've enabled all the icmp stuff so ping wasn't being blocked by the device.
Being given the fact that this config was up and running prior to the replacement, I've no reason to suspect any mysconfigured items (ie routes, NAT, access-list), but obviously I'm obfuscated and can't see what else I'm missing.
How is that possible that the PING only reaches certain hosts? Pinging to 10.15.5.90 works (Route is 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 to 10.15.5.126 (gw)), but pinging to the gateway itself doesn't (10.15.5.126) and even worse, hosts like 10.15.167.210 do not respond either.

I'm having a cow of a time trying to implement a NAT configuration after having upgraded our ASA5510 recently from IOS 8.2 to 8.4. The upgrade went fine, however we now have a need to add a new NAT rule and I'm not sure whether it's possible.
The upgraded NAT rule and access list works fine at allowing external access to a web server.
However we now need to NAT the SOURCE address (either to a pool or single address) of incoming http requests before forwarding the request to the server. Hence the server will see all requests as originating from a pool with a route heading back to the ASA. The basic issue is that the severs default gateway does not return to the ASA, so "tagging" the source address of external requests to an address or interface associated with the ASA should allow the server to return the traffic to the ASA. I know we shouldn't be doing it this way but we can't see any alternative.
Having read a huge amount of examples we can access the server with the above config (or Object NAT), and we can NAT incoming traffic, however we can't combine the two by having all external http requests Source Natted before forwarding to the server.

We are replacing our EOL Watchguard X1000 Firewall(s) with Cisco ASA 5510 unit - ASA Version 8.4(3). Following is the static NAT I have build and the corresponding access list.
nat (FW2Inside,FW2Outside) source static BW_XSP1_Private BW_XSP1_Public destinat
ion static BW_XSP1_Private BW_XSP1_Public
access-list FW2Outside_access_in extended permit tcp any object BW_XSP1_Public object-group DM_INLINE_TCP_1
Unable to access the server on the inside interface via the public NAT address. Can you point me in the right direction as to what I might be missing to make this work?

I'm trying to track down the installation and configuration procedures for the common criteria EAL4 evaluated ASA5510 but not having any joy.
The ASA Release 8.3.2 certification report [URL] identifies the required configuration documentation as the "Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances (ASA) Firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN) Platform Common Criteria Operational User Guidance and Preparative Procedures" but I can not find any reference to this on the Cisco web site.
So far I've only been able to locate the proceedures for the older 7.0 release. [URL]
How to locate the correct documentation needed to configure an ASA5510 to achieve the common criteria EAL4 evaluated configuration.

There is a PIX 506E and ASA5510, with different connection to service provider. Problem is Apple remote users can't access resources protected by the PIX506E. Apple users can access resources protected by ASA5510. Physically the PIX and ASA are in close proximity with no physical connections. Is it possible for Apple users to authenticate with the ASA and the traffic get routed to and get authenticated by the PIX, inorder to access resources?Due to bandwidth restrictions, a DMZ on the ASA will not be created at this time inorder to consolodate firewalls. Currently 2 x T1 is the connection between ASA and ISP; 1 T1 connects PIX to ISP.

I wanted an ASA to do hairpin routing. Here is the situation. A client was running there internet through a partner's WAN. They do not have a layer3 switch/router, and the defautl gateway on there network was actually the the partner's equip. They recently purchased there own internet circuit and an ASA5510. I initially tried putting in the nat exception and permit same security interface and static route on the ASA so that traffic bound for the extranet segment would be routed back out the inside interface toward the gateway to the partner's WAN. Pings worked right away, however no applications would work: no web traffic, application traffic, anything. My only guess is that the ASA does not like this in relation to stateful traffic flow, and the fact that since the partner's gateway is on the same subnet, you end up with asymentric routing.

I have a client that has 6 public IP addresses. He needs to use 3 of them. One for workstations which is currently working fine. It is using the default gateway IP. One for a email/web server which has a statis NAT and is also working fine. But we need an additional NAT but it is for 3 servers that all need to go out as the smae public IP. I am not sure and been unsuccessful getting those to go out as the same IP. I either cannot get them to exit the same IP or it breaks the workstation NAT.
Workstations would be 10.0.0.100 - 200 going oput the FE1 interface or I think x.x.94.122
Email would be 10.0.0.5 going out the statis NAT of x.x.94.123
I then need 10.0.0.2 - 4 to go out x.x.94.124
I removed some ACLs and IP info for security. Attached is the current config.

I have a ASA5510 with 2 internal interfaces (inside1 and inside2 same security level) configured with OSPF for dynamic routing with 2 routers to corporate subnets. I have a server in a private subnet that needs to be accessed from Internet. So static pat is used in ASA with the command
static (inside1, outside) tcp interface www 192.168.1.1 www netmask 255.255.255.255
As OSPF is in use, the subnet 192.168.1.0/24 may be reachable from interface inside2. When I tried to configure the static command for inside2,
static (inside2, outside) tcp interface www 192.168.1.1 www netmask 255.255.255.255.the error message came out "WARNING: mapped-address conflict with existing static...". Is this just a warning, or this is not possible in ASA.

I'm facing a problem with two vlans. Each vlan has internet access by NAT.
In each vlan there is at least one server, who should be accessible from the other vlan and vice versa.
The function "same-security-traffic permit inter-interface" doesn't work, because NAT control is in place - so an expert.
Some experts told me it's not possible to route back out the same interface, and also not route back out the seperate subinterfaces as well.

I got a Problem with Routing on a ASA5510.
I have ezVPN Clients connected to the ASA5510. Those Clients are assigned an IP from 192.168.236.0/24 Pool.
I have a Router of a contractor connected to a dedicated ASA Interface called IBIZA with IP Net 10.100.10.0/24 and the Router itself with the IP 10.100.10.1. Behind that Router is another private Network which I need to reach from the ezVPN Clients.
The Connection from the ezVPN Clients to the "LAN" Interface/Network on the ASA works fine, but I cannot reach either the Contractor Router (10.100.10.1) nor the Network behind that.
From the LAN Network (on the LAN Interface) I can reach both the Contractor Router and the Network behind.
When I use the Packet Tracer Tool from the ASDM it tells me that the Traffic goes through but ends on the LAN Interface. But it should end on the IBIZA Interface or am I wrong here ?
What do I need to tell the ASA to route the Traffic from the ezVPN Client to the Contractor Router and back ? I have set up the ezVPN Connection as full-tunnel so all Traffic goes through the VPN Tunnel. That shouldn´t be the Problem.

I don't know much about routers, but lately I've been playing around with router configuration and getting better but I am kind of stuck now.
The scenario is this.
I have 3 ip net from the ISP:
178.249.51.0/255.255.255.248 Gateway 178.249.51.1
178.249.51.8/255.255.255.248 Gateway 178.249.51.9
178.249.51.16/255.255.255.248 Gateway 178.249.51.17
[Code]....
I am also wondering - when we get more public IP net from the ISP, is this the correct way to do it?

I have the task of replicating the router config on a 3825 router on a 3750 switch. Reason is we are taking out the router and replacing it with the switch to make use of the router for other functions.
Below is main part of the router config:
!
ip source-route
ip cef
!
!
multilink bundle-name authenticated
!
license udi pid CISCO3825 sn FCZxxxxxxx
!
vlan internal allocation policy ascending
[code].....
The 3750 switch I have runs C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M, Version 12.2(55)SE3 on a LAN BASE license.
The first thing I have done is to order for a license upgrade to IP BASE which would give the support for OSPF routing.I do not see much of an issue with the Interface configs, however, I am not too sure about replicating the routing config on the switch.
My question is can I run the commands as shown for the OSPF routing on the switch? If not, can I get suggestions on how best to set this up on the switch?

I have a 3825 router that I have setup with the following: [code]
Its on a trunked port to my 3750 switch. I am new to this compnay and havent changed it over to IP routing on the switch quite yet. Both Vlans are setup on the 3750 without an SVI. All hosts on VLAN 1 can ping both interfaces without issue.
If I put a host on the 172 VLAN it cannot ping anything on the router. If I put another host on the VLAN they can ping each other. If I put an SVI on switch the 172 VLAN hosts can ping the switch, but still not the router. ONce I put the SVI on the switch, it can no longer ping the router. I am giving the SVI ip 172.22.1.5/24.
I have verfied with TAC that the trunk is allowing the vlans to the router.
I have been working with TAC. They have asked me to update the code on the switch, but I think they are just punting. [code]

I've just started out playing with a Cisco 1800 router to gain some knowledge of Cisco devices before taking a CCNA. I also have a 2950 switch but will start with the router.
I'm using an Android phone as a wireless Internet access point. This issues IP addresses by DHCP in the 192.168.43.x range with 255.255.255.0 subnet.
Also I have a Linksys WRT54G router running DD-WRT firmware acting as a wireless bridge to the Android phone, and it has 4 LAN ports.
This bridge is up and running and I have successfully connected my laptop to the Linksys for testing and can use the Internet provided by the phone.
Connected to the Linksys is a Cisco 1800 router. Connected to the router is my Citrix XenServer PC and a NAS box.
The XenServer and NAS are on another network 07.05.19.x range with 255.0.0.0 subnet using their own static IPs. One of the virtual clients on the XenServer will be a DHCP server to service other virtual clients. All still in the 07.05.19.x range.
Basically I want the devices on the 07.05.19.x IP range to be able to use the Internet gateway at 192.168.43.1 to access the Internet.
How would I set up my 1800 to achieve this?
Also, am I right in understanding that the 1800 will ignore DHCP leases from the Android phone due to it being a Layer 3 device.
