I noticed in all my deployments, regardless if it's during peak hours or after office hours, the memory utilization is always consistent 11MB utilized over the total of 16MB(memory default size).

We have a customer that has a ASA 5525-x reporting only 4g flash memory rather than 8g has any 4g version of the 5525 or is the IOS reporting incorrectly the size, as it seems to be embedded on these units as a USB disk internal.

I am looking at upgrading an HA pair of ASA5520's from 8.2(2) to 8.3(1), and am just wondering why the huge upgrade in memory is needed. How are Cisco justifying where the additional memory is going to? Are there supposed to be some massive improvements in performance?
View 2 Replies View RelatedCome across pix 525 with 7.2.4 , 256 MB RAM, experienceing high memory utilization ?.show memory was giving used memory = 97%.All I had done was, i did a reboot of the firewall since we were not able to take the control of the f/w.I wonder why only the standby f/w had this issue and not the primary does not have, just to rule out that it was not due to Traffic.I have searched in bugtool kits and support forums and did not find anything relevant except for a similar issue for ASA CSCsg43844.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to add memory to my ASA 55xx's (running 8.2(2)), some of which are config'd active/active or active/standby. The docs say that ram must be identical, which makes sense for production. My question is this: can I upgrade the standby units first, make them active, and then upgrade their mate? Or must I schedule downtime to take the pair down for the upgrade?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded our ASA5540 to 8.4, THEN noted the increased requirements for Memory. I purchased the 2Gig upgrade, but when installing in the Primary unit today, noted that there were 4 slots. Slots 1/3 had 512Mb modules, so I installed the 2 x 1Gig modules in slots 2/4.
The ASA5540 came up clean, and it "sees" the entire 3Gig of memory.
My question: Is this a SUPPORTED configuration? All documentation I have read only mentions 2Gig of memory. Also, If I had FOUR x 1Gig memory modules, would the ASA5540 support the 4Gigs of memory?
I am using a Pix515E with 8.0(3) and 128MB RAM. It ran OK for months but has recently had several episodes during which it produced streams of memory allocation failures (syslog 211001). When in this condition I could not log into the VPN. It was still operating but some users were having problems and I eventually had to restart it.
The traffic load is typically 10Mbps, and the max number of connections is around 10,000 but typically 5,000. The CPU usage is 10%-20%. There is 1 VPN with normally 1 client. The memory usage is always high, between 115MB and 120MB but during these problems it creeps higher.
Why might the memory usage be so high when my network load is quite light for the 515E? What circumstances cause the memory usage to increase during operation? Is there anything I can do to prevent the memory usage increasing to the point where the PIX crashes?
I have a second 515E with 8.0(4)32 and 64MB RAM, loaded with the same config. I have not had this one in service, but off-line it is using 53MB of memory. If the spare pix needs 53MB to load the firmware and my config, why does the other one use 115MB?
We had two PIXes in our environment and working as a active-failover mode. Its noted in now a days the active PIX memory utilization is 98% and for standby PIX it is 96%. And also in some times we were experiencing packet loss to the ip of active PIX and which reflects in the inside servers access also. During that time the active pix was not accessible via ssh as well as ASDM. We have tried reloading the PIX and changing failover state of the PIX, but it results only a temporary solution. Current memory installed is 128 MB (maximum upgraded), so a upgrade is also not possible. Please see the show command outputs from the PIX. Current Software version is 7.2(4)
sh memory output (PIX 1 - active)
Free memory: 4850944 bytes ( 4%)
Used memory: 129366784 bytes (96%)
[code]....
1) How we can pin point the root cause of this high memory utilization?
2) What might be the reason for the high memory utilization for the standby pix (96%), still the PIX is in idle state?
3) Is it a hardware issue or a memory leak issue, then how can we find out?
4) Is a software upgrade to new version resolves the memory issue?
Got an ASA 5505 with the standard 256MB memory. I recently upgrade from 8.2.5 to 8.4.4, and converted over the NAT rules. Problem is, I'm now running very low on memory (RAM): [code]
The ASA doesn't do anything too fancy. Just 1 VPN and 4 inside hosts. Is there any easy way to free up memory, or do I just have to bite the bullet and upgrade to 512MB?
We want to run ASA 8.4.x on an old ASA5540. We need to upgrade its memory to 2 GB with the following memory upgrade: ASA5540-MEM-2GB=
I suspect that we will completely remove the existing 1 GB of memory and replace it with 2 GB. If this is the case, can I use this 1 GB of memory removed from the ASA5540 and put it in a ASA5510 instead of buying a ASA5510-MEM-1GB= for the ASA5510?
We recently added about 400 users to our network for a total of 1000. Looking at the ASDM we are holding very tight to 75% utilization and we have 256mbs. This is also running IOS 8.2(1). Our firewall recently crashed after a major download was forced through it. This was after only being booted up for about a week. We had reloaded it a week prior after having ran it for about a year without issue. We havent made any changes in the last month other than adding more users to our network.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried last night to upgrade the memory in my old 5510. It's about 5 years old and has the single memory socket. I followed the instruction included in the kit:
Mfr. Part#: ASA5510-MEM-1GB
I did wear an ESD wrist strap (genuine Cisco at that!) and ensured the memory was fully seated, the handles locked in.Upon restarting the ASA, for over 15 minutes, it stayed in mode: Power LED steady, Status LED flashing, other LEDs off. No response to attempts to SSL via Putty. I powered it off, verified the memory was indeed fully seated, and re-installed the original 256 MB module. It powered up normally in less than 5 minutes. Is there anything else to try before returning the memory? Tonight, I can try the same new memoy module and see if it works.
I recently upgraded the flash and the RAM on one of my ASA 5505 lab machines. The flash was upgraded from 128 to 512MB and the RAM was also upgraded from 256 to 512MB. I am using asa845-k8.bin. The firewall boots and runs file until you issue the reload command. The system shuts down but never reloads.

I got an asa5510. After problems with ipsec connections the log said :
LU allocate xlate failed this error repeats every minute. At the cisco site i found the following :
explantion : stateful failover failed to allocate a translation (xlate) slot record recommended Action : check the available memory by using the show memory command to make sure that the security appliance had free memory in the system. If no memory is available, add more memory
But when i do there is free memory. (about 54%)
What can i do to fix this ?
Is there a way of ascertaining whether my 5510's have 1 memory slot or 4 memory slots without having to open the chassis?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a normal setup of ASA5505 (without security license) connected behind an internet router. From the ASA5505 console I can ping the Internet. However, users behind the Firewall on the internal LAN, cannot ping the Internet even though NATing is configured. The users can ping the Inside interface of the Firewall so there is no internal reachability problem. In addition, I noticed that the NAT inside access list is not having any hit counts at all when users are trying to reach the internet.
When i replace the ASA5505 with a router with NAT overload configuration on it, the setup works normally and users are able to browse the internet.
The ASA5505 configuration is shown below.

i have asa 5505 with the asdm v5.2 (4), and the asa v7.2(4). View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently upgraded my old firewall from a PIX to an ASA5505 and have been trying to match up the configuration settings to no avail. I have is that I can't ping the new firewall on it's inside interface, despite having "icmp permit any inside" in the running config. Secondly, the server I have on there ("Sar") can't connect out to the internet.I've included the ASA's running config incase anybody can see if something stands out. I have a feeling it's either not letting anything onto the inside interface, or there is no nat going on. Lastly (and possibly relevant), the firewall is actually going at the end of a vlan, which is different to the firewall's inside vlan number. I don't know if this is actually the problem because the server can't connect out even if connected directly into the firewall.

2. Juniper fe0/0/2 port is configured as inet port and configured the Internal public LAN pool provided by the ISP. And this port is directly connected to Cisco ASA 5505 E0/0. Its a /28 pool IP address. This interface is configured as outside and security level set to 0.
From Juniper SRX, am able to ping public Internet IPs (8.8.8.8).
Issue:
1. From ASA am unable to ping public ip configured on Juniper G0/0/0 port.(/30)
2. From ASA no other Public internet IP is pinging.
Troubleshooting Done so far.
1, Configured icmp inspection on ASA.
2. Used the packet tracer in ASA, it shows the packet is flowing outside without a drop.
3. Allowed all services in untrust zone in bound traffic in Juniper SRX.
4. Viewed the logs when I was trying the ping 8.8.8.8 in ASA. It says "Tear down ICMP connection for faddrr **** gaddr **
