View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working on a project to migrate a single Checkpoint firewall over to a single ASA 5510, no VPN, just firewall. The checkpoint firewall has 8 physical interface so the ASA 5510 also support physical 8 interfaces so thiw will be a one-to-one swap. At the moment, I don't have an ASA 5510 to test my theory so I am going to throw it out here. The checkpoint firewall is a SPLAT running on an powerfull IBM Server with 8 CPU dual cores with 32GB of RAM and it has 1200 rules with over 120,000 objects with some of the crazy NATs but it works so we will just leave it at that. There are not that much traffics going across the firewall so there are no need to put in an ASA 5585
I use the cisco conversion tool to do the policy conversion from Checkpoint to Cisco, I get about 1.5 million lines in the configuration. A lot of it has to do with Checkpoint having no concept of interface security level while ASA does. I am sure I can optimize it to cut down the number of lines in the configuration; however, that is not my main concern at the moment. The customer goal is that at the time when cutover from Checkpoint to Cisco ASA, they want everything to be perfect, meaning that it will work like magic.
My question is that can the ASA 5510 handle 1.5 million lines of configuration? Are there any limitations on this? I know there are limitations with FWSM but since I don't have an 5510 to test.
I have 5 static public IP addresses at my disposal. A checkpoint firewall with VPN access provides remote access for mobile users. How would I go about integrating the ASA 5505 SSL VPN into this network so some mobile users could continue using the checkpoint VPN client while others could have SSL VPN remote access? Attached is a graphic of the network.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a question with regard to setting up the ID firewall on the ASA 5585 in a single forest, multiple domain windows network.Currently I have a semi-operational IDF at the top level but can't find users on the lower other domains, here is the setup:I have 3 domains.

Both domains have a two way parent-child trust and I can look for users in AD Users/Computer on both domains. I initially setup the ASA to look at domain1.test.com using an LDAP aaa-server per the IDF instructions, and then proceeded to configure the ad-agent. I installed the adagent on the domain1.test.com domain controller configured the settings on that system and had no problem adding users to the firewall and getting functionality within domain1. I looked to see if I could see domain 2 and domain 3 users and found none. I went ahead and added the domain2 system to the adagent on the DC and the system says that it is up, but when I search for users is not pulling them from domain2. Instead, it shows domain1 users as domain2user1. I also configured another adserver in the ASA to search ldap on domain 2 to no avail.The cisco documentation states the following:•Before you configure even a single domain controller machine using the adacfg dc create command, ensure that the AD Agent machine is first joined to a domain (for example, domain J) that has a trust relationship with each and every domain (for example, domain D[i]) that it will monitor for user authentications (through the domain controller machines that you will be configuring on the AD Agent machine). Single Forest, Multiple Domains—All the domains in a single forest already have an inherent two-way trust relationship with each other. Thus, the AD Agent must first be joined to one of the domains, J, in this forest, with this domain J not necessarily being identical to any of the domains D[i] corresponding to the domain controller machines. Because of the inherent trust relationship between domain J and each of the domains D[i], there is no need to explicitly configure any trust relationships.Reading that it sounds like it should just work. I had everything properly configured before I installed the adagent, but I'm guessing that there is a chance that you can't have the adagent on the top level DC and get to communicate with the lower level domains.
i need to move from a pix 515e. V 6.3 to a asa v 8. From what ive read i can use the pix to asa tool to get the converted configuration file to the new asa. So far so good, however, the pix has conduits which i read must be converted via the occ tool. So i ran the pix to asa conversion then ran the occ tool on that output but i keep getting errors. It is not liking the nameif outside, inside, and dmz lines. If i manually edited them out before i run the occ tool it runs but warns there are no interfaces.

I want to remove VPN configuration from the router and put VPN Configuration on Cisco ASA 5505.The scheme would be: ASA5505(vpn site-to-site) -> 887 -> INTERNET this for both sites.My problem is that I do not know what ip put on interface Outside of firewall. For example on Site A delete all VPN configuration from 887 and leave only ATM0.1 point-to-point, on intereface Outside of ASA put ip of loopback(of router 887) and as default route 85.34.2.XXX. Right?
We try to migrate two ASA stateful Active / Passive from version 8.0 to 8.4 but many of acl rules and Nat no longer working. We must go through the version 8.2? The release 8.4 changes everything and seems to me not too stable, it'sl best to stay in 8.2 or 8.3 !!!

As firewall is working in transparent mode, we have bridge IP address for context C1 10.1.1.1 and for context C2 10.2.2.1.
I have added default routed for context C1 10.1.1.2 .It is in the outside of asa and SVI on switch.For the other context C2 10.2.2.2.

Everything seemed to be ok, but we noticed that confirgurations are not being replicated by saving configuration either copy run start or write. The workaround here is write standby command. Below the configs and stats, plus the show version, which is the same in both equipments:

I have an ASA 5505 without any IPS module.While copy/pasting some configurations from another 5510 with IPS I copied my mistake the some of the IPS configurations part. Now I can't remove it.When ASA starts I get this Warning:

Those lines are:

When I try to do "no ips inline fail-open" I get an "invalid input detected".If I try a no class IPS_class I get that is being in use.What can I do to clean up those lines?

The current set up for this network has an mpls router and a vpn concentrator as part of the network my aim currently is to replace the juniper with an asa5510 the changing of the vpn tunnels will be for a different time:
work station ===> switch (3750) DG to =====> MPLS (vendor owned and managed) ====> non mpls traffic ====> vpn concentrator ===>firewall ===> router
The above will need acls to go with the routes, which I should manage ok just want to make sure the routing is configured properly

I need to upgrade the compact flash of my ASA 5510 from 256MB to 512MB. A friend's recommendation was to buy a card reader, copy all of the data from the existing card and paste it to the new compact flash. I have a hard time believing that it's that straight forward.

I need to replace an ASA with an IOS firewall router, and am not sure how to migrate the NAT configuration. Specifically, there is an interface "3rdparty" that has onward connectivity to other private addresses, so our internal addressing is hidden. For some reason there are static NAT rules in different directions across the interface, but at present I cannot see why. Thinking in router terms, all that springs to mind is the inside and outside tags for the interfaces, but also that it might need "overlapping" NAT to be configured.

I have a new 5585x with only basic ip information on it. I can't get the ASDM to load from any interface. Browser just says cannot load page. I upgraded to 9.1 and ASDM 7.11-52. (Also did not work before I upgraded) I can ping the managment 0 interface and can tftp data to and from it. Also unable to telnet to the management interface. [code]

10.8.251.30 -- addess assigned from the pool
10.8.251.4 -- inside interface address in the ASA
1.The VPN establishes without problems and I can reach any inside resource, also I can ping the firewall.

I am currently working with ASA 5585 with several contexts. What is the percentage of the CPU used per context. I already have the opportunity to do it for the whole ASA (context admin) using the SNMP mib CISCO-PROCES but, unfortunalty, this mib doesn't allow us to know the percentage of used CPU per context.
I was able to know the number of core used per context but not the percentage of the CPU used.
