Cisco VPN :: ASA 5510 - Stopped Accepting Connections?

Jun 7, 2012

My ASA 5510 has stopped accepting connections today.  I cannot connect with ASDM either.  ASDM hangs at "Contacting the device.  Please wait" and does not return an error or time out.  I can telnet into the device but my CLI knowledge is elementary at best.  I'm trying to determine how to view or enable the correct logging and view via CLI.  I have looked at the client log from one of the users that cannot get in and have attached it.  It looks like Phase 1 is not completing but I'm not sure how to view what the ASA is logging.  I have run debug cry isa and debug cry ipsec but it just returns to the prompt and I'm not sure what I should expect to see or what command to run to view the results.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Stops Accepting Connections

Nov 21, 2012

A client has an ASA 5505 with a base license.  The version information and configuration is attached.  In 8 hours, sometimes less and infrequently more, it becomes inaccessible.  All connections are dropped and the only way to access the device is through a console connection.  The WAN interface (VLAN 3) is connected to Verizon FIOS.  The interface was set to 100 MBps and full duplex, but I just changed it to auto on both the speed and duplex to see what would happen.  The LAN interface (VLAN 1) is also set to 100 MBps and full duplex  It has not been changed.

The last time it happened logging was running, but nothing in the log indicated a problem.  In fact, the last log entry was a couple of hours before the lockup (there's little or no traffic on the ASA while the problem is being diagnosed).

Cisco Wireless :: AP541N Device Stops Accepting Client Connections

Feb 8, 2010

We have an AP541N that has been deployed to replace a Cisco 1200 AP (B/G radio).  The 1200 functioned perfectly in our environment.  The new AP541N on the other hand seems to work fine right after a reboot but immediately starts to degrade service.  Over a short period of time, the devices bandwidth degrades to the point were the wireless network is not usable.  This happens with just one device connected.  Eventually, the device stops accepting client connections. We are unable to get any relevant logging out of the device to diagnose the problem.

Cisco WAN :: 2801 / Managing 6 WAN Connections

Jul 31, 2011

The application here is a wind power project, built in two phases, without any effort to coordinate or integrate the two sites during the design phase. All operations activities for both phases are performed by one staff out of a common location. This is a rural area and Internet connectivity is mission critical due to contractual obligation with Electrical Utilities.

The client has a need to reconfigure a network which has grown over time in a layer by layer approach, whereas at every point in time that an additional T-1 or other changes occurred to address a specific need, no thought was ever put into integrating the entire site as a whole. It is at best a dysfunctional solution which somewhat accomplishes thier needs, and at worst, a kludgy, grossly security compromised, and difficult to use infrastructure. There is every kind of equipment one can imagine, each installed by some entity providing needed services on the site, but forced to make uninformed decisions because the client really has no IT department to coordinate with. Over time, every vendor just provided their own switch, router, or maybe figured out how to reconfigure another existing device to also provide the routing or access needed, To say the least, it's a mess.

The client requests a solution which provides a means to accomodate 6 internet connections (4 T-1 lines, and 2 satellite) in a manner which aggregates available bandwith and provides redundancy. The T-1 lines will be the main internet access, with the satellite connections only used if available bandwidth falls below some threshold, say 3Mb. There are many internal networks which need to be routed to and between, in total, about 20 subnets. There are 2 SCADA (Control) networks which have a mandatory requirement of 1Mb each, a VoIP system which does not use any internet connetivity as there are 6 POTS lines dedicated to it, an internal office LAN and a turbine manufacturers site LAN.

The T-1 lines, at 1.5Mb x 4 = 6Mb.

The 2 SCADA networks require a guaranteed 1Mb each, the remaining 4Mb is to be allocated between the office LAN and the turbine manufacturer site LAN. The satellite connection are only to be active in the event bandwidth falls below 3Mb.

There are 2 Cisco 2801 routers on site which could be reutilized if appropriate. Each T-1 has it's own Adtran CSU with Ethernet out. All T-1 lines are /29 IP Blocks. 2 of the T-1 lines are adjacent IP Blocks, for what its worth.

Everything here is open to reconfiguration. The client wants this finally integrated correctly with the ability to address emerging Electrical Utility cybersecurity requirements in the immediate future.

An ideal solution would be fully redundant to eliminate the single point of failure at the edge router. As to whether there needs to be separate edge and interior routers, I just don't know that. I would guess everything could be done with just a pair of redundant routers at the edge, but perhaps it is better to do the interior routing between subnets on a different router(s).

Again, the goal is a well integrated, redundant, and secure solution. My part is mostly complete, with the OSP part of the network finally at 100% after 5 years of stupid and careless misconfigurations and bad fiber splicing (by others).

I'm absolutely covered up in business at Layer 1 & 2 on these sites, as the physical plant and associated network elements are typically very poorly designed, specified, and implemented. The complexity of this job leads me to seek outside advice and ultimately a more qualified Cisco professional than me. I'm experienced enough with Cisco to know when I'm in over my head. I know a diagram would be nice, but at this point I've only got a very detailed diagram which reveals too much site identity information to make public. I'll wait to see a few comments and in the meantime work on removing site identity info so I can post a good diagram for everyone to see.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2801 Secondary IP / Port Forwarding?

Mar 26, 2012

I have the above firewall which is working as it should but I have came across an issue with a recent upgrade to Microsoft Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2010 Autodiscovery due to the way the port forwarding has been configured for Outlook Web Access (OWA) on the router.

The router is forwarding OWA requests to the exchange server on port 8080 and the default website in IIS on the Exchange Server under which OWA sits and unfortunately Autodiscovery has been set with an SSL port of 8080. I think the reason for this is that we have an RDP server and the router is forwarding all port 443 requests to this server. Due to this Outlook clients cannot connect to Exchange through autodiscovery and cannot therefore get FREE/BUSY and a few other things.

I have 5 public IP addresses and only use two at the moment, one on the ADSL router and one on this firewall. I have no spare interfaces on either the router or the ADSL router.

My question is, is it possible to have a secondary ip address set on the public facing interface and set different rules for this IP which would allow me to forward requests on that IP to a different server?

My student was doing a  lab and he said during configuration, Console Port stopped responding.  He was in middle of configuration, so now at present, only telnet is  able to login on "R2>" user mode, enable password is not set, so  getting "R2>en % No password set R2>" I have tried  different terminal software but no output from Console Port, changed the  Console Cables, replace with working console cables, change speed  (baud) settings. Also tried to connect same console with "AUX" port and  got same error mentioned above. AUX Port responds but I am not able to  change mode (R2#) because of incomplete running-config. it seems "Console Port" is physically  damaged.

Dont want the port to be visible as open to the global net accept when the host 10.1.1.60 establishes the connection first.That way a port doesnt have to be left open 24-7.

Multiple Connections Via One Ethernet Port?

Feb 19, 2013

The ethernet ports across the entire campus including the halls all host multiple networks via one port. I connect to the port and I get one connection, and my friend connects to get a second connection through the same port, and a third person connected via the same port to get yet another connection. I think there may be 4 connections being hosted through this in total. Now, the university have 3 main streams of internet: 1 for Staff/postgrad, 1 for students, 1 for exchange students. The fourth connection type is intranet with only access to a portal. The purpose of the portal is to submit your mac address for wireless and ethernet to be assigned an IP address for both. The issue we are having is my friend needs to connect to the exchange students connection for actual internet access, but the ethernet cable will only connect her to the portal (all her details have been submitted). I have cycled through every window in the networking control panel and usually issues like this I can resolve within a couple of hours but how to identify other networks that are available through ethernet.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Connections To Router On Port 4444?

At the moment, there are no connections to port 4444 in my PC's firewall connection list. Why would my PC connect to the router on port 4444?I've scanned my PC for viruses/malware and it's come up clean, so I was wondering if this could be caused by my router? Google doesn't have any answers to this either. My firmware version is 1.34.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N Stops Accepting Clients

Sep 25, 2011

I have two WAP4410N. One of he accesspoints is connected to our wired LAN, called by now AP1. The other accesspoint is connected to the first accesspoint by WDS (Client mode) called now by AP2. I have upgraded both accesspoints to firmware 2.0.4.2. Both accesspoints are set to the same SSID and channel (6) and are set to mixed mode (B/G/N). After I two weeks they started to fail. When I connect to AP1 I don't reveive an IP-address of our DHCP server from our LAN. I'm able to connect to AP1 from our LAN. When I SSH to the box and I do an dmesg command, I see the following messages:

ath_bstuck_tasklet: stuck beacon; resetting (bmiss count 36)
ath_bstuck_tasklet: stuck beacon; resetting (bmiss count 36)
ath_bstuck_tasklet: stuck beacon; resetting (bmiss count 36)

I'm still testing these devices and I hope I can use these devices in our production environment,which is not possible with these errors and outages.

I can't connect to AP2 right now. I think the whole wireless interface isn't working anymore, unless I power off/power on the box. But it's hard testing when it works ok for two weeks and then stops.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Mac Airport Not Accepting Signal From WRT110

Jul 22, 2011

Was online the other night when my network suddenly dropped out on me. I assumed it was the router, not my computer, so I restarted it and got nothing. Same with my modem. Then I completely reset the router and, obviously, lost the network I had set up. Didn't realize until today, when I downloaded the setup instructions and reinstalled the router with a new network that the problem might actually be with my computer. I can use the ethernet port to access the web both with the direct line from the modem and when using a line through my router, I just can't get my computer to work on the network I set up. I know the network is valid because it works with my smart phone and a couple of other devices. On my Mac, it shows up in the list of available networks and has full signal strength. Diagnostics in network preferences gives me the following message: "AirPort has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet."
