Jun 19, 2012I have a RV042 VPN Router with the latest firmware v4.2.1.02.This Router is connected to the main site by a VPN Tunnel.
Now, I like to configure some DHCP Option so I can put a IP Phone behind the RV042. The IP Phone should receive a IP by DHCP from the RV042 and of course, the IP of the Call Manager with the Option 150.
I can configure DHCP and it works fine but I can't find where I have or can configure Option 150.

May 7, 2012I am using a WLC 5508 and its internal DHCP server. I cant find anywhere I can setup option 43. However, the access points are connected in just fine. Do I need to worry about setting up a seperate DHCP server to get option 43 setup properly?

Mar 16, 2011We have a Network set up with a RV042 router. Router is hooked up to Cox Cable and ATT DSL. Currently have 20 computers hooked up to the router all using Static IP addresses. Setup has been in place for over 7 years. I want to set up a Wireless Access point on this network. The problem is, I can't seem to get DHCP to work right even WITHOUT the Wireless Access Point. I have taken one of the computers that works great with a static IP and changed it to be DHCP, I have enabled DHCP on the router and set the from and thru parameters for the IP assignment. The computer will connect and get an IP address and it allows me to see all the INTERNAL servers on the network but going to the Internet is REAL FLAKY. I usually have to refresh 5 or 6 times to get a web page and sometimes even that don't work. If I do get a page to come up there is about a 10% chance that it will bring up a subpage of that page without doing a refresh 5 or 6 times. Its like it won't hold the connection to the Internet. I did notice one thing different in the User Manual of the RV042 that is different than all the other Linksys routers I have worked with. It says that when you enable the DHCP on the router, you then make sure ALL computers hooked to it are set for DHCP. All other routers I have worked with do NOT use that word ALL. Am I missing some setting or is this a binding thing where you are either ALL static or ALL DHCP?

Apr 3, 2012Have a client wanting to hand out public ip addresses to all clients from a PFSense Firewall terminating the internet connection.
How do I allow the Cisco Switches currently in place, configured with private ip addresses in the 10.10.x.x ranges and Vlans, where the main 3550 layer 3 has defined dhcp scopes for each vlan, to relay dhcp requests from all vlans to the PFSense firewall?
I assume I would take off the currently defined dhcp scopes for the vlans and configure each vlan/switch with the ip helper address and specify the PFSense firewall and that Nat would have to be disabled onthe firewall?

Uncheck the box if you have another DHCP server on the network or you want to configure static IP addresses for your network devices.Is this accurate? Or will the RV042 allow more than 50 devices?

Apr 5, 2013We are currently running Windows 2003 Domain in our network with DHCP turned on the Server. We have turned off the DHCP on the Router. We are using RV042 as out Gateway to the internet and everything is working fine. We would like to allow a couple of our users to be able to VPN into the network so that they can use Outlook and be able to access their files on the Shared Folder. The users would be using their laptops from their homes to connect via VPN using the standard Windows 7 VPN connection.
In the RV042 Interface there are many options and I am not sure I understand which setting would allow them to connect successfully to the network, be authenicated as a domain user.

Cisco Routers :: RV042 - DHCP Giving Out Wrong Default Gateway And DNS Server
Oct 3, 2012I have a RV042 router. The problem that I am having with it is that the DHCP is giving out the wrong Default Gateway and DNS Server. There is no option to change the DHCP server IP on any of the settings pages on the router. I am begining to think that there might not be a way to do it. I see that there is an option for the DNS under the DHCP page but the Public IP that is being handed out is not the one on that page. I also have 2 WAN connections hooked up as well a DSL link and a Cable link (the cable link is the primary one).
The following information is provided in an effort to resolve this issue:
IP of Router 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP Server (the one that is being handed out):10.0.0.1
IP of DNS (the one that is being handed out): 10.0.0.11
What I want to it be.
IP of Router: 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP 10.0.0.2
IP of DNS 10.0.0.2

Jul 12, 2009I am trying to setup a VPN using an RV042 (fw ver: 1.3.12.6) to access a VISTA computer over the internet using a laptop using QVPN's latest version. I finally got it to connect but then hang's with error " Gateway is not responding, do you want to wait?". If I say yes it go through the login again and hangs. If I say no, it hangsup. I've tried a couple different ideas using tunnelling and static IPs in the router but nothing. All I want is to be able to access one computer through the RV042 over the internet from any other computer using the QVPN.

So I set http min. rate to 5,000 while I set nntp min. rate to 1 However, when I run nntp downloads on several connections (e.g. 10) my single http download never goes above 1,000 kBit. Without any other connections I reach 8,000 kBit.
I am using a single 12 MBit line.

When debug packets from client to server, there is no 82 option in dhcp discover packets. I mirror all traffic to mirror port with wireshark. I can see dhcp packets but without option 82.

This lets a server determine what kind of information it is seeing in this field. "
I think it meant that the format of vendor information wasn't fixed in RFC 951, and any vendor can legislate a new format of vendor information by itself. And the value in "magic cookie" can be set by any vendor.But in RFC 2131, the format of DHCP packet was legislated, and the "magic cooke" was fixed to values 99, 130, 83 and 99, I think it meant that the format of option information in DHCP packet was fixed absolutely and any vendor can't legislate a new format by itself.
Since the format of option information in DHCP packet was fixed absolutely, why the network device needs "magic cookie" to identify the mode in which the succeeding data is to be interpreted ? I think the magic cookie is not useful in DHCP packet because the format of option information is fixed. In other words, there is only one format of option information forever.

1. What is the significance of this & when do we use it?
2. Also, under each wlan ssid that we create, there is an option of dhcp address required under the advanced tab. Do we need to use this option, if we are defining a normal dhcp pool in our controller for that ssid.

Jan 13, 2013Recently I bought RV220W router and found out that PPPoE connection option or profile do no have service name field at all. Unfortunately, my ISP requires this to be able to connect. I had done some research before buying this router by going through online device manager demos on cisco website. RV220's interface is not available, but RV215 is and I checked out some of the common features between both routers. Surprisingly RV215's PPPoE connection settings has service name option.
I suppose, unless there is new firmware update (my current router is already running the latest available firmware), this option cannot be added in the interface. What I want to know is, is there any way to configure the router to use the service name in PPPoE option or in PPPoE profiles? I don't think RV220W can be accessed via terminal/SSH or maybe even terminal.

Our server is at located at location A and locations B and C telnet to the server via a VPN. We're looking at getting another ISP at each location as a backup and abandon older modem backups.
Would I setup a VPN tunnel between (A and B) and (A and C) for each ISP? Also I had a question on local IP addresses and if this would work

Cannot Access Setup Webpage From RV042
Nov 10, 2011I am trying to configure a Linksys RV042 VPN router as a simple router. I want to connect it to one of the ports from a CiscoASA5505 router because I need to connect 4 additional PC's and the ASA is out of available ports.I am trying to connect it through an ethernet port from my laptop.At first I configured the TCP/IP settings as getting the IP and DNS's automatically and but I was able to enter the setup by entering the default IP address (192.168.1.1).After 10 minutes it got disconnected and could not connect again.I get Status: Limited or no connectivity.If I try to type the IP address manually (192.168.1.1) I can ping the router successfully but the setup webpage never opens.what I need to do in order to access the setup webpage when I connect the router directly to my laptop?
