I have sample lab    dhcp-client  ------- (vlan62) sg-300 switch  (vlan62) ------ dhcp server
 
When I set on switch :
 
dhcp relay  : enable
option 82 : enable
dhcp server address: ip of dhcp
 
When debug packets from client to server, there is no 82 option in dhcp discover packets. I mirror all traffic to mirror port with wireshark. I can see dhcp packets but without option 82.
 
Firmware version: 1.0.0.27

Have a client wanting to hand out public ip addresses to all clients from a PFSense Firewall terminating the internet connection.
 
How do I allow the Cisco Switches currently in place, configured with private ip addresses in the 10.10.x.x ranges and Vlans, where the main 3550 layer 3 has defined dhcp scopes for each vlan, to relay dhcp requests from all vlans to the PFSense firewall?
 
I assume I would take off the currently defined dhcp scopes for the vlans and configure each vlan/switch with the ip helper address and specify the PFSense firewall and that Nat would have to be disabled onthe firewall?

DHCP Relay on a SGE2000 switch.I have configured two VLANs on the switch, VLAN2 (192.168.10.x/24) and VLAN3 (192.168.9.x/24). I have the switch in Layer 3 mode. I have configured the DHCP relay server of 192.168.10.4 and the DHCP Interfaces as VLAN3. All of the IP Static Routes were generated by the switch.
 
If I put a client computer on a port that is Untagged VLAN 3 and try to get a DHCP address from the server on an Untagged VLAN 2 port I never get a response back.I have done some packet captures and here is what I have found:

I see the DHCP broadcast on the client computerI see the DHCP Request on the DHCP server coming from the IP assiged to the switch on VLAN 3 (192.168.9.254)I see the DHCP server respond with a DHCP OfferThe DHCP offer never gets to the client computer I can't seem to get a DHCP address to any system not on the same VLAN as the DHCP server. Option 82 is disable and I did try enabling it, which made no difference.

I am actually more of a 3Com guy than Cisco but I like to think I know my stuff and having just discovered this site I hope to join in as it looks a good place.I have a question about the general theroy underneath DHCP relay (IP Helper in the Cisco world I believe!)I've always put the DHCP server in VLAN1 only. A few weeks ago, I repatched the DHCP server in one of our offices (small site, single switch) into a different port by mistake. A few days ago I noticed (when doing something entirely unrelated) that I had left it in a port on both VLANs meant for PC's/phones. So, untagged on VLAN1, tagged on the voice VLAN. It had continued to work properly all that time however.By contrast, at a larger site, a new DHCP server came online and was put on a switch elsewhere in the building and was also put into a port on both VLANs - however things didn't work at all - of course we noticed immediately and changed the port setting to VLAN1 only, and it came back.In the second example, the server was on a different switch to where the main L3 switch for the Voice VLAN was (which also does the DHCP relay), and was connected over a fibre trunk link.Is there any reason why it should work on a single switch on a port on both VLANs, but not when connected over a trunk link? The server does not understand tagging. In the case where it worked, the phones were getting an IP from the correct scope; so the relay obviously must have been working with the server issuing an address based on the GIADDR field.

Cisco Switches :: Getting DHCP Relay To Function Properly On SG300-20 Switch

I am having some issues with getting DHCP Relay to fuction properly over our SG300-20 Switch.Out current layout is as follows. Hanging off the SG300-20 are a pair of Clustered Checkpoint Gateways with VLAN'ed interfaces in Both of our 2 VLANs, a 3COM 4200G In VLAN1 which has the DHCP server (And all the other Servers) connected to it, and a Pair of HP Procurve 2520's Stacked in VLAN 2 to provide PoE for our Phones/connectivity for our PCs.The problem is I cannot get the DHCP Relay to fuction from VLAN 1 to VLAN 2. If I assign an address in VLAN 2 manually to a device connected to the Procurves, everything works fine. I am able to reach both VLAN 1 and VLAN 2, but DHCP aquisition fails even if the device is connected directly to a port assigned to VLAN 2 on the SG300. The SG300 is running at Layer 3 currently also.

Cisco Switches :: Series 200 Smart Switch Not Communicating - DHCP Blocked

I have a small, simple small business network.  There are 2 switches - an 8-port switch connected to my main Windows server (which is the DHCP provider for the network), and a 24-port switch which is plugged into the 8-port switch.
 
I replaced these switches (Dell unmanaged switches) with the Cisco 200 series smart switches (the 8-port and 26-port models).  When I plug the 26-port switch into the 8-port switch, it is unable to get its DHCP address from the Windows server.  Also, any device plugged into the 26-port switch cannot communicate with any other device, and all of the ethernet port lights flash at the same time at the same frequency - quite a light show!
 
If I plug the Windows server DIRECTLY into the 26-port switch it receives a DHCP address.
 
I have tried a 2nd Cisco 26-port swtich and it does the same thing, so I assume it is not a hardware issue.

Now, I like to configure some DHCP Option so I can put a IP Phone behind the RV042. The IP Phone should receive a IP by DHCP from the RV042 and of course, the IP of the Call Manager with the Option 150.
 
I can configure DHCP and it works fine but I can't find where I have or can configure Option 150.

I tried turning on dhcp option 82 support on switch 1 by doing.

In RFC 951, the format of BOOTP packet was legislated, but the vendor information was not legislated in this document,  so the authors of this document had described that :"If the 'vend' field is used, it is recommended that a 4 byte 'magic number' be the first item within 'vend'.  This lets a server determine what kind of information it is seeing in this field. "
 
I think it meant that the format of vendor information wasn't fixed in RFC 951, and any vendor can legislate a new format of vendor information by itself. And the value in "magic cookie" can be set by any vendor.But in RFC 2131, the format of DHCP packet was legislated, and the "magic cooke" was fixed to values 99, 130, 83 and 99, I think it meant that the format of option information in DHCP packet was fixed absolutely and any vendor can't legislate a new format by itself.
 
Since the format of option information in DHCP packet was fixed absolutely, why the network device needs "magic cookie" to  identify the mode in which the succeeding data is to be interpreted ?  I think the magic cookie is not useful in DHCP packet because the format of option information is fixed. In other words, there is only one format of option information forever.

While configuring a 5500 wireless controller, i came across this option of DHCP proxy under Advanced tab of Controller Option.It asks for the dhcp option 82 remote id format & the dhcp timeout.
 
1. What is the significance of this & when do we use it?

2. Also, under each wlan ssid that we create, there is an option of dhcp address required under the advanced tab. Do we need to use this option, if we are defining a normal dhcp pool in our controller for that ssid.

We just purchased 8 managed switches POE to swap out our existing in preparation for our new phone system.  We installed them all after configuring with static IP.  Deployed... and all but two work fine. Any tips for troubleshooting why two of them do not work?  There are a couple other switches in the building.   Could it be that a switch "upstream" from the two non-functioning switches is causing an issue?  If so, how do I find out?  When we put back the two "dumb" switches all was fine.

I have an ESW 520 8-Port switch with a management ip address of 192.168.10.2 /24 After I reboot it, I can successfully ping it from a pc with an ip of 192.168.10.123 for about 50 consecutive times.After that, I get a "Destination host unreachable" (this icmp message is sent by my pinging pc (192.168.10.123).This obviously seems like a bug.Whenever I reboot it, it goes through the same sequence.

I want to configure my SRW248G4 switch thru console port. Unfortunately in this switch there is no RJ45 console port input, I can only see cosole port that is look like RS232 input. I bought two standard cisco console cables that have one end with db9 and one with RJ45.

Now I have and idea to put one end of one cable (db9) to switch, and one end (db9) of second cable in my computer (COM input/output)
 
I need to connect two RJ45 together - this is not a problem, I know how to do this. Here is the question :I know how pinout in my computer look like but i can't find pinout of console port in my SRW248G4. There is many pictures in Internet, for many Cisco devices but this isn't working. Maybe in LINKSYS pinout look different ?

We have recently purchased SG 300-52Port Cisco Switch to support our Network but they constantly having some bizarre issues or I assume bugs, i.e. we cannot Telnet nor SSH to the switch now, whereas we were able to SSH before, we have set them up for Remote Log Services to get some syslogs and reports but no report have been generated nor logs,
 
I have done some testing through Wireshark and there are absolutely no reports / logs.We have some real issues with this switch and it’s hard to believe that this is a Cisco Product,

Cisco Switches :: Get InterVLan Routing To Work On DF300- 24 Port Switch

I am trying get inter vlan routing to work on a DF 300 - 24 port switch.  I have an existing company network on 192.168.111.0 and want to create a vlan on 192.168.1.1 that can talk to 192.168.111.0.  I have enabled layer 3 routing on the switch via console and also provided the ip routing command. I have the following VLAN's:
 
VLAN1 - Default 192.168.111.0
 VLAN2 - 192.168.1.0
 
I have enabled DNS and provided my two DNS servers 192.168.111.82 & 192.168.111.212.  I have set the VLAN1 interface to 192.168.111.217 and VLAN2 interface to 192.168.1.1.
 
Ports FE1 - FE15 are set to access ports and assigned to VLAN1 (untagged) 
Ports FE16 - FE24 are set to access ports and assigned to VLAN2 (untagged)
 
I have set a default route for the switch to 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.111.254 (Draytek 2600 router). I have connected a computer (A) to VLAN1 port FE3 and a computer (B) to VLAN2 port FE16.   I have set Computer A default gateway to 192.168.111.217 and its IP address to 192.168.111.94.    I have set Computer B default gateway to 192.168.1.1 and IP to 192.168.1.2.   
 
Computer A has access to Mdaemon, file server via network drives but no internet (cannot ping google) and can ping computer B and RDP onto computer B.
 
Computer B can ping computer A and RDP onto computer A but does not have access to the company network i.e MDaemon, file server etc.   It also cannot access the internet.
 
From the console I can ping [URL]and all ip addresses in the company network i.e. 192.168.111.82 (DNS server).  If I scan computer A wirh wireshark the internet starts working weird!

I bought an ESW 540 8-port switch, mainly for the POE capability over all 8 ports, so that we can power some SPA50X phones.The concepts of a "managed" switch are challenging for a newbie.Is there a way to make this device behave like a boring "unmanaged" switch ??We have plenty of bandwidth, and don't need to be troubled by QoS and virtual LAN's, or all the security stuff at this time.Making this device work like an unmanaged switch (aka plug-and-pray).
