Cisco Routers :: RV042 Killing Off Site Backup After About 2 Hrs

Dec 23, 2011

I have 16 customers using RV042 router all 11 have the RV042 router different ISP's. After eleminating every thing else we were down to the routers. Two of the customers we built linux boxes to do the routing and firewalling and VPN, etc. Once in place the problems went away. Which confirmed it was the RV042 router causing the problem.

We watched the traffic and after about 2 hrs the router tells both ends to reset. End of communication.

My question is how do we stop the router from terminiating the connections. They are not bandwith hogs. They are nessessary connect connections.

Is there a way to set up a Site-to-site VPN between RV042 & Cisco 2911? I "googled" this and obtained a document, but it is not regarding Cisco 2911: [URL]

Routers are needed to setup it successfully. I have tried on both routers several configuration steps, no success...

Cisco Routers :: RV042 - Site To Site VPN And Behind Juniper Firewall

Mar 25, 2013

I have no problem configuring both devices to successfully connect when the juniper firewall isn't in the picture.  But due to policy; the RV042 at our main site must sit behind the firewall.

I've got the port forwarding setup but I'm not able to connect.  I know I"m missing some configuration on the RV042 but I can't think of it! I've attached a GIF to give an example of both setups.

Cisco Routers :: RV042 Site To Site VPN With Dynamic IP?

Nov 28, 2012

I recently bought two RV042s to create a site to site VPN for a client.  I have several of these setups installed at other locations but this is the first version 3 hardware I've used.It seems like the dynamic IP functionality of the VPN setup may not be working correctly.  I've verified all settings on each router match and have deleted/recreated the setup several times just to make sure.  Here's the logs from the router with a static IP.

Nov 29 06:49:51 2012 VPN Log (g2gips0): deleting connection
Nov 29 06:49:51 2012 VPN Log added connection description (g2gips0)
Nov 29 06:49:51 2012 VPN Log listening for IKE messages
Nov 29 06:49:51 2012 VPN Log forgetting secrets
Nov 29 06:49:51 2012 VPN Log loading secrets from '/etc/ipsec.d/ipsec.secrets'
Nov 29 06:49:51 2012 VPN Log (g2gips0): cannot initiate connection without knowing peer IP address
Nov 29 06:49:51 2012 VPN Log (g2gips0): cannot initiate connection without knowing peer IP address

I've tried both dynamic IP + email and dynamic IP + FQDN to authenticate the router using the dynamic IP and both give the same error as above.I did a firmware update hoping to fix PPPoE which seemed to be broken with a Netopia modem in bridge mode so both routers are on the latest firmware, v4.2.1.02.

Cisco Routers :: RV042 - Site To Site VPN Speeds

Jan 24, 2013

I have an RV042 connected to another RV042 via site-to-site VPN.  The tunnel has been solid for months, but when I did an actual read/write test between PCs at either endpoint, the speeds were quite slow.

Endpoint A has a line speed of 25/5.
Endpoint B has a line speed of 50/7-ish.

Read/write test from A to B was about ~3 write and ~7 read. Does this sound normal for these routers?  I was hoping for better performance than that.

Cisco Routers :: RV042 Link Backup Versus Load Balance?

Nov 14, 2011

We have 2 dsl lines coming in and the modem is in bridge mode while the router handles the pppoe information. Each line is 6mb down and .5 mb up. It's ****, yes I know, but this is pretty decent for a small town in the country. To double our bandwidth, I put it in load balance mode. When load balance, I get anywhere from 9-12 down and .8 up. Here's where it gets tricky.

When anything is uploaded, the speed drops from 9-12 down and .8 up to about .2-.7 down and .2 up. I realize that we will lose some down and up speed but I wouldn't think it would be this drastic. Is this normal? When they upload to a specific https site (file is about 50mb), it never initiates the upload. If I switch it to Link Backup, it will upload fine. I still lose the speed but at least it does something. I've read that some https sites have issues with grabbing data from multiple IP's so I figured this is the case since it's a medical site that was probably developed in house. Is this true?Does protocol binding work in Load Balance mode? I binded all http and https traffic through WAN 2 interface however, when I do a speed test or check my external IP, it is not indicating the WAN 2 IP address.  Is this a common issue in rv042's or is there a firmware update that solves all these issues?

Cisco Routers :: RV042 - Access Site 2 Resources Via QuickVPN Connection?

Nov 15, 2010

So here is my issue. I have two sites, each with a Linksys RV042 on thier site.

Site 1:
External: 142.142.142.142
Internal: 192.168.25.0/24

Site 2:
External: 143.143.143.143
Internal: 192.168.26.0/24

We have setup a site-to-site VPN between these sites, and all traffic is running back and forth without isse.

At Site 1 we have configured the Client VPN for use with the QuickVPN software. Again, for site 1, this is not an issue. We are able to access all internal resources at Site 1 without issue (expect for some DNS related problems).

The problem that we have is attempting to access Site 2 resources via the QuickVPN connection at Site 1. Even though they are not suppose to exist, we are able to ping 192.168.26.1-6 (which are ghost addresses likely created by the RV042's) but no actual systems on at Site 2.

I have added the Client VPN connection at Site 2, but it has the same problem accessing resources at Site 1.

Cisco VPN :: ASA 8.02 - Backup Site To Site VPN Configuration

Feb 2, 2011

We are attempting to implement a VPN configuration using an ASA 8.02 at a Central site which terminates remote site VPN connections from IOS routers (12.4), using static crypto maps. We have a functional configuration, but looking to implement a backup site-site configuration on the ASA, using different service providers. The observation is that as soon as i add the 'connection-type originate-only' to the crypto map on the ASA, the tunnel is fatally broken. As soon as statement is removed the tunnel comes is restored. just wanted to confirm that the 'connection-type originate-only' configuration on the Central ASA is supported with the Cisco IOS peer. Documentation seems to indicate there is some sort of proprietary exchange that is supported only between ASA peers.

I can ping the remote address with a response. The basic parameters I'm using is 3DES with SHA1, but the RV042 offers an option for Perfect Forward Secrecy which the RV220W does not (I've tried toggling this) and the RV220W offers and Extended Authentication mode which I can't see on the RV042.

Linksys Switch Has Started Killing The Dsl Connection

Jan 7, 2011

I have been using a linksys 5 port workgroup switch in my room. I have the ethernet cable coming from the router into the uplink port and my PS3, xbox, dvr, and pc in the other ports. It has been working fine until today I started messing around the the cables. I had trouble with the ps3 connecting to the internet so I used my laptop with wifi disabled to test out a few of the cables and ports. Now all of a sudden the switch kills the internet connection. If I remove the cable running to my room from the main router, the other PCs and wireless will connect, but as soon I plug myself up it goes dead. I now have the ethernet cable in my room hooked directly to the PC bypassing the switch and everything works fine now.

D-Link DIR-655 :: ITunes Killing Bandwidth How To Control It

This has finally become a BIG problem. Any time I have iTunes running and downloading podcasts, it hogs all the bandwidth for the Internet (but not the local network). This is not only slowing down access from the machine running iTunes and the downloads but for every other device trying to web browse.I'm running two Macs and one Windows/Dell PC on the network. All are hard-wired (Ethernet) to the DIR-655. How to throttle iTunes? I did some research and found that I am apparently not the only one having this issue.I'm about to bail on iTunes entirely and try to get used to Miro, which does allow bandwidth control.

Cisco Routers :: SRP527W Site-to-Site VPN Not Hiding Internal Addresses?

Jun 11, 2013

We recently purchased an SRP527W router because of its capability to configure site-site VPN tunnels. The configuration of IKE and IPSEC is working and the tunnel comes up but the problem is that the router is passing our internal IP addresses through the tunnel. The remote end we are connecting to requires us to hide all traffic behind one IP address which would ideally be our external static IP address from our ISP.
