Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 Bandwidth Management Not Working
Oct 12, 2011
I have a RVS4000 hardware v2 with firmware 2.0.2.7. I have a DSL modem in bridge mode and have the router set to PPPoE. Everything works fine except I want to use QOS which doesn't work fine. I have some vonage boxes set up on a switch set to port 1 trust mode is set to port and level 4 for highest priority. Port 2 I have on another switch set to priority 3. I tried turning bandwidth mangement on which doesn't seem to work at all so I don't even know if they QOS is even working. I set the max down stream and upstream provided after running a number of speed tests and setting it a little lower than my worst speed results. Once I did that I set up a rule for all traffic for rate control and set them just below the min and max I put in for isp bandwidth. I set the ip range from 192.168.1.100-190 this will cover anything that dhcp hands out and I also have a few statics set up on 192.168.1.180 and 181. However after enabling it I ran some speed tests and I still get full speed and the rules seem to be getting ignored.
I'm have serveral issues with my router.First, using port 8090, I'm unagle to get remote management of the router.Port 8090 is forwarded to the router 192.168.1.10 I have other issues too, I think the router is blocking my FTP conenction to my NDAS drives.I wish the router would show the UPnP port that are autoamtically added t othe system.Port 80 works well going to my NDAS drives.Firewall, DoS Blocking WAN are all turned off.
We have a Service Policy rule setup on our 5510 for SMTP traffic.
Problem is, this week someone sent a larger email 20+mb to dozens of recipeints and the outside interface was hitting 10mb, which is not what I would have expected with this rule in place, so I'm questioning the configuration. We know it was email because I disabled the server that receices our outbound mail to apply a signature and the traffic dropped immediately.
setting up Rate Control in Bandwidth Management. It doesn't seem to work at all. I knew from some other Posts that I need to have IPS on and I do.. Is there something else I need to do.
My users are connected wirelessly to the router through three different SSIDs and I have 3 VLANS. I need to set some limitations on two of the LANS.
We have two RVS4000 at both ends of a VPN tunnel. The tunnel is up and runs fine. I can ping the two servers at the main office end of the tunnel, and cconnect to the resources of both servers. However, one of the servers, the terminal server, is unreachable via RDP. The other server can be reached via RDP for administrative purposes just fine, but the terminal server cannot be reached. There is only one difference that I can think of. The terminal server is reachable from the outside world via a redirected forwarded port on the RVS4000 at the main office.
The current firmware version is V2.0.0.3 at both ends. Is this a known anomaly for this revision of firmware?
I picked up an RVS4000 V2 and configured a rule to forward a Magic Packet to an internal system to wake it from a sleep state. Everything was working fine until I update the firmware to v2.0.3.2. I know it's not the the computer as I can wake it from Sleep internally without any problems. One thing I noticed is that the static IP for the computer in Sleep state gets lost in the ARP/RARP Table though the NIC is configured to respond to ARP requests in Sleep.
Has anything changed in v2.0.3.2 that requires a different configuration to get Wake on Lan working externally?
My Setup is
Computer P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 onboard Intel 82579V NIC Wake on Magic Packet: ON Respond to ARP/NS requests without waking system: ON RVS4000 V2 (v2.0.3.2) Mode: Gateway
Ports 1 through 3 are configured for VLAN1 and right now I have one PC connected directly to port 1 and nothing connected to ports 2 or 3. Port 4 is configured for VLAN10 with a managed switch (also configured on VLAN10) connected to it. There are 4 wireless access points connected to the switch.
On the Setup->Advanced Routing page of the RVS4000 I have the Inter-VLAN Routing option set to Disabled. Yet when I connect to one of the wireless access points and receive a 192.168.10.x address, I can ping the PC connected to port 1 which has a 192.168.1.x address.
Also, I would like VLAN10 to not have access to the Management GUI on the RVS4000.
I have a 6 month old RV042 with the newest firmware (v4.2.1.02). Over the weekend I configured the DMZ which after a lot of trial and error, was able to get working. Prior to configuring DMZ, I was able to log in with remote management. However now remote management no longer works. I've tried:
- Rebooting the router - Turning the firewall off/on - Turning remote management off/on - Changing the remote management port
The only step I haven't taken is resetting the router back to factory defaults and trying to reconfigure it all again. This router is so finicky I have no faith I'd be able to get my current functionality back again.
Firmware version 1.3.3.5 STAR 9202 Chipset 64 MB DRAM 8MB Flash DOS, Block WAN Rq, Remote mgmt all OFF IPSec Tunnel none used
[code].....
Every day or so the Router becomes unresponsive to the HTTP mgmt interface, as well as it no longer offers DHCP services.then this happens the only remedy is to power reboot.
Everything comes back online just fine, however, the LOGS are initilaized so no data to figure out what`s going on.My next step is to setuo a syslog server and have the logs copied out.( No, I have no Torrents running at all, but I do have several devices like AppleTV, PS3s etc that run streaming Video plus I have the SPA3102 )
I have recently purchased a RVS4000 VPN Router and I have a slight problem.
At home I have a 100Mbps internet connection which gets a result of around 80-98Mbps on the [URL} . However, when I connect the RVS4000 to my network I can only achieve 20Mbps. I am using Cat 6 cabling for everything with Gigabit ports. The QOS / bandwidth settings are disabled.
I have a WLC 4404 installed and we would like to manage the bandwidth per SSID. Today we have configured many SSID because our campus has a lot of wireless users and any SSID has only one class C subnet (/24).
We would like to configure each SSID with more subnets. is this possible ?
Additionally we need to restrict the bandwidth per SSID. is this possible ? We have some SSID for less important users and we would like to assign the bandwidth per SSID.
I am trying to restrict bandwidth for a particular LAN IP address on my network using policy maps but it does not seem to be working, My LAN IP address is 192.168.20.199 which i am trying to limit the bandwidth on.
I am trying to use GNS to simulate this, but a bit difficult to achieve this. May I know can the Cisco Router handle below requirement? Example Cisco 2811
1) Bandwidth management based on IP Address or Subnet? For example; allocate 1Mbps (CIR) and 10Mbps (BIR) to 172.16.1.10
2) Can the Cisco Router control the inbound and outbound bandwidth?
I setup a WLC5508 with 2 SSIDs, one for guest traffic and another for internal users. They are in separate subnets and are routed out to the internet via 2 different isps, with the guest network going over a bonded t1 and the internal users going out the primary internet connection for the company. While this works as desired and we've verified that while on the guest network we're going out the right isp, we've encountered an issue with saturation of the bonded t1 pipe by guests. We'd like to find a way to limit a guest to a capped down/up stream if possible, with downstream being the most important. The infrastructure includes 3560 switches and AIR-CAP3502I-A-K9 access points.
I have 20 mbps internet link and I have ASA 5505 . I have to divide this bandwidth 10-10 mbps each for Voice and Data . So that both can work properly. because when I am using it for both on same interface, I am getting Voice disturbance..
We are looking at putting in a solution at a hotel for Free Guest WiFI.The solution would cover 4 floors and about 120 rooms and some open areas .In short the hardware would look as follows
-2500 controller -1142LAP -2960 PoE switch -878 Adsl router for internet connectivity (20Mbps/1Mbps internet ADSL feed)
One of the concerns raised by the client is that they would like to make sure that no single user could eat up too much bandwidth creating problems for the rest of the users . Can the above KIT or something similar achieve this objective? As far as I can think of we would require a Proxy server .
i have a small network with Polycom phones connected to the sf300 switch and have the pc's daisy chained via the second switch port on each phone. i have the pc traffic running on the default vlan 1 and the voice traffic running on the voice vlan 100. can i do bandwidth management on a vlan/port basis or is that not necessary. i want to ensure that the voice traffic is never impacted by the pc traffic on the same cable.
I have some clarifications regarding ASA firewall, it can be support bandwidth management and content security at the same time. we are looking for below features in ASA5510.
IP/Policy based bandwidth management.Controll the bandwidth and allocate the bandwidth to specified users or servers.Content Security. If not, which device I need to set for Internet Bandwidth Management and content security.
We have an ASA 5525 running version 8.6(1)2 and a 10 MG pipe. I have execs that want to limit bandwidth on users for stuff like youtube, stream media, and downloads. I found the article on ‘Bandwidth Management(Rate Limit) Using QoS Policies’ so it appears our firewall can do what we want. I’m not a cisco person. My knowledge is limited when it comes to configuration – that’s why we have SmartNet.
Can bandwidth be limited on end users and/or can they limit the ‘bandwidth rate limit’ to just youtube, steaming media, and downloads? If so, what should the limit be? and I’m assume this would be for ‘incoming’ traffic only? we’re running into some bandwidth hogs – usually youtube and/or streaming media. We have a Barracuda web filter which we’ve used to block and monitor activity but I simply do not have time to babysit this all day. I should also mention we do have critical data running up and down the pipe; such as credit card processing, DB replication between in house DB and hosted website, TPCx and EDI, FTP, and such that we don’t want restricted.
I have 2 internet connections in my office one via Verizon Fios and another one via the local cable company. On the fios connection I have an RV042 VPN router and on the Cable company connection I have an rvs4000 router, I would like to know if there is a way I can connect the 2 so I can share a printer I have on one of the 2 networks from the other network without using the VPN feature, like via an ethernet cable connected between the 2 and some kind of static route maybe?
I have RVS4000 v02 and created 3 VLANs - 192.168.70.0/24, 192.168.80.0/24, and 192.168.90.0/24 . I tired to created IP based access list to deny network 192.168.80.0/24 and 192.168.90.0/24 to have access to 192.168.70.0/24; and deny 192.168.90.0/24 to access 192.168.80.0/24.
MY ACCESS LIST from RVS4000 Deny All Protocol LAN 192.168.80.0/255.255.255.0 192.168.70.0/255.255.255.0 Any Time Every Day Deny All Protocol LAN 192.168.90.0/255.255.255.0 192.168.70.0/255.255.255.0 Any Time Every Day Deny All Protocol LAN 192.168.90.0/255.255.255.0 192.168.80.0/255.255.255.0 Any Time Every Day Allow All Service LAN ANY ANY Any Time Every Day Allow All Service WAN ANY ANY Any Time Every Day
* all access list is enabled. Both 192.168.80.0 and 192.168.90.0 network can still reach 192.168.70.0 network.
I am setting up a 3 host ESXi cluster. I am using a pair of stacked SG500-28 switches for switching redundancy. Each host has 8 NICs. 4 to each switch. I have successfully setup a 3 NIC LAG with 1 path to one switch and 2 paths to the other. These LAGs work. When I setup a 2NIC LAG via the console for management, and the associated ports on the switches, I lose managment communication with the host. Before setting up the LAG in the ESXi console, I set that vswitch properties to us IPHASH as instructed here bit.ly/VLaTEt I have attempted to follow those instructions as closely as possible. The one thing that I am wondering is whether the SG series supports etherchannel. I can't find any reference. Either way, it works on the other vswitch that is for vMotion. I can vmkping between the hosts over that LAG. But setting up a LAG on the management vSwitch doesn't?
I can access the admin pages from inside the network.I can access the admin pages remotely from my iphone (safari). If I try and access them from my PC at work (IE6 or Google Chrome), I can access the router, give the password and get the status screen. But if I try and go to any other page on the router, it asks for the password again and takes me back to the status screen.I have Hardware B1 and firmware 2.0 (not upgraded it yet).
I recently picked up a Catalyst 2960G and am trying to get SNMP management working over IPv6. I have the IP Address set to the local link, and can successfully ping and telnet to the switch (so the network can get traffic to and from the switch). However, SNMP packets just seem to disappear. I am running WireShark on my machine, and I see the packets go out to the proper IP, but nothing comes back. When I check "sho ipv6 traffic", I can see where there are UDP packets that are received, but, again, none going out. Also, when I run "sho snmp", all of the packet counts are 0.
Here are some relavant snipets from my "sho run":
interface Vlan1 no ip address no ip route-cache ipv6 enable
Local DHCP (via the 5508) is for the guest network while the management and voice use the Windows DHCP server.
My problem, Voice and guest work fine. I have two SSID's (one 802.1X and the other PSK) that use the management interface that will not get an IP. I have enabled dhcp proxy from the cli on the controller. I tried with the management VLAN tagged and untagged.
Ive set up a rvs4000 with two vlans, one as a bussiness network and the other as a guest network. Everything works fine and the networks can not see each other. I would like to add wifi and I would like to do so with keeping both networks separate. I have a used 1130AG access point and was wondering if I could use this single AP for both networks. If so, how would I go about doing so? Is there a better suited AP for my needs?
I have an RVS4000 running V2.0.2.7 firmware that gives me an "Invalid Character(s) Found" error message when I try to edit an existing ACL.
I'm trying to deploy 57 of these routers and would like to be able to use a pre-built config dropped onto each router.
I initially planned on editing the exported config with a find&replace for my local LAN addresses. Since that didn't work the next reasonable solution would be to edit the ACL list (much more tedious, but still better than hand-entering every ACL on all 57 devices).
when this bug will be addressed? Alternatively, if there is an offline configuration editing tool I would be one happy camper to have it!
I have an RVS4000, not installed. How can I tell from the unit or the packaging that it is a v1 or a v2, without installing and switching it on (which I don't want to do now) ? Are v1 branded Linsys and v2 Cisco ? Can you tell from the date on the package (mine says copyright 2011) ?
I don't know if my vendor mislead me, but I need to do this: There is a public subnet in my office, not a 192.168.x.x, but a real Public IP.The reason is that we do VOIP and those are only servers. I installed a RVS 4000 in that location, and assigned a PUBLIC Ip to BOTH the WAN and LAN, since when I connect from outside, using either QickVPN or another identical router, I need to be assigned one of the PUBLIC Ip's on the remote LAN. That is the whole idea of the project, to locate servers remotely and make them use our set of PUBLIC IP's. Well, so far I cannot connect either with the Quick VPN client, or using the VPN Wizard. It goes and creates the tunnel, without error, but when I click test, it fails.
We have backup and other traffic over our vpn which is affecting our ip phone service between two sites. Our consultant suggested implementing QOS over the VPN to give the phone traffic priority. Is this possible with the rvs4000. Is there any good source saying how to do it. Is the setup of the QOS on this router similar to another router where this has been discussed.
