Cisco :: Switch Power Usage On Boot?

Oct 11, 2011

I have a customer who is concerned with the power draw on the new switches we're deploying. They only have 20 amp breakers in their closets and fear popping them on switch boot. The customer is under the impression that a switch will pull full power on boot. So a 3560X with an 1100w PSU will draw the full 1100w on startup. Ive never heard this and it doest make much sense to me, but I need to verify.

The below power details are from the 5508 datasheet which lists 115 W as the maximum draw (0.115 kW) however this seems a bit low, is this right?

Is there anyway I can see the power usage on either a 3550 switch and/or 7301 router? I have some far away I wish to see the usage off.

Devices with module power supplies like cat 4500s/6500s/7600 etc all have commands like "show power ...", which will show me input voltage, current and power usage in watts. Is there anything like this for devices without module power supplies?

Dual Xeon X5-26xx Power Usage

Mar 10, 2012

My two E3 boxes with 16GB each is feeling kinda cramped for what I want to do, 8GB unregistered ECC is still stupidly expensive, and a dual E5-2620 box with 12 cores/24 threads and 64GB of the much cheaper registered ECC, something like a 560Ti or equiv for playing around with remotefx, and a X540-AT2 or two when they become more widely available really sounds like a lot of fun.

Anyway the only concern I have is adding even more power to the ever growing power bill and heat load what with summer coming. My current setup uses around 320W, what the above system might draw at mostly idle and full load.

Cisco Wireless :: Normal Boot Time For Aironet 1130AG With Power Injector?

Jun 1, 2012

I have installed an Aironet 1130AG and utilized a power injector for the power source.  I have the settings configured correctly in IOS, but the AP takes about 7 minutes to come on (illuminate LED status lights) once the Ethernet cable is connected. Is this 7 minute power-on delay normal when using POE?  I am used to the instanteous "on" that usually comes with Cisco products being connected directly to the AC adapter.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: High CPU Usage In 3750X-24T-L Switch

The process "HL3U bkgrd proce" is causing high CPU usage issues in a switch 3750X-24T-L. The IOS is 15.0.2-SE2.

show platform ip unicast failed route and adjacencies displays a lot of entries, I've seen up to 1200.

After restart HL3U bkgrd proce takes around 10 - 20 % CPU, some hours later 99%.

A coupe of times we got logs like this:

Cisco Infrastructure :: High CPU Usage / Dropped Packets - Switch Blade WS-CBS3120X-S

Jun 25, 2012

I have a couple of Switches Blade 3120, working as active-standby model (HSRP) on a new site deployment. There are other 20 sites more or less, working on the same model, without issues. But in this one, we are seeing a high cpu usage. The traffic going through the platform is 600Mbps (on peaks), and in this case we have 40% of CPU usage. Traffic should be close to 3 Gbps. When we tried to send the whole traffic through the platform, active switch began to drop packets on the majority of interfaces.

When we analyze the CPU usage, there is a special process called "HL3U bkgrd proce" always have the most CPU use, but we do not know what concerns. We do not know if it is caused because there are PBRs configured. It should not matter. How I mentioned, there are other sites working fine and have had always the same PBR number.

What is causing the high usage?. Is there a special debug we could to perform to diagnose the issue?. Also, we have seen a high interrupt CPU usage (9% in this case).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: SF 300-24 Switch Won't Boot After VLAN Config / Reboot

Jul 28, 2012

I was trying to configure an SF 300-24 for use in my home and obviously did something dumb. It was working fine. The f/w was updated and I had configured 2 VLANs. VLAN2 was ports 1-6+GE1 for IPTV streaming and VLAN3 was ports 7-24+GE2 and GE3 for the rest of my LAN. I was plugged into GE4 and was configuring the switch with a laptop. GE4 was the only port still on the default VLAN1. I chaged the default VLAN to VLAN3, which forced a reboot and the switch never came back up. Attached is what I see when I connect to the console port: [code]

I can't access to GUI using it's static IP or it's default IP on any port and the console never reaches the point where I can log in. The System light is flashing green but the boot sequence never progresses past what's in the screen shot. I tried to do a hard reset using the recessed button on the front panel but it does not seem to have any effect, no matter how long I hold it down.

When Check Internet Usage Log On Wireless Company The Usage Is Totally Off?

Apr 3, 2013

however recently when i check my internet usage log on my wireless company (Rogers) the usage is totally off from what my bandwidth tracker shows me. So i decide to turn off my wifi and see what happens, there has always been this weird wifi connection appearing whenever my wifi appears, then afterwards when i turn off my wifi the suspicious wifi connections disappear. is this possible that someone is using our wifi? i might just be overreacting but it has brought me to concern that if the usage continues my family will have to end up paying over $30 for extra internet use. it is very frustrating me because when i check my DHCP client table it only shows 3 connection, ethernet - my desktop which is not turned on, 2 wireless connection - my laptop and my sister's laptop.
