Cisco Switches :: System Time With New SGE2010Ps And SGE2000Ps
Sep 25, 2012
I'm new to the Cisco forums and new to Cisco switches. We just purchased 3 new SGE2010P's and 2 SGE2000P's last week and delivered on Monday. It basically boils down to this. After configuring the system time and hitting Apply and the saving the Running config to the Boot Config and then Restarting the switch the time and date do not remain configured. It other settings but not the date and time.
I have a situation where i am installing SGE2000Ps to replace my old switches and configuring VLANS. The time clock will not communicate across the VLANS. If I unplug the network cable and plug it back in I will get two successful pings. If i use a PC configured with the same network settings as the time clock and plug it into the port for the time clock it communicates fine.
This is happening to me to multiple computers on my domain. When it happens i can only log in as a local user or if I unplug the network cable, log in and then re-connect the networkThe time on all these machines is correct within at least 1 minute but still it's throwing off this error. When reading about this problem I see many fixes that all relate to how to sych the time on the PC.
I'm trying to get an HP laptop running Win7 to see a desktop running WinXP on my network (both wired and wireless) When I run the troubleshooter in Win7, it tells me "system clock does not match local time" as the reason. I have a Belkin wireless router attached to my cable router. I have updated the system clock via the internet on the desktop and checked the time setting in BIOS. These seem to match. I have googled around on this and can't find any accounts similar. My son's Vista laptop and the Win7 laptop have seen each other since day one. The laptop and desktop did see each other at one time, but the connection was lost after I went to a hotel and changed public network settings temporarily. I can ping the desktop from the laptop, but it times out when pinging the laptop from the desktop. I'm running an avast firewall on both, but can't see a problem there.
I have the DIR-655 rev B1 with 2.03NA firmware. After 7 days the system time falls back an hour. The timezone settings are correct and I have used both 0.us.pool.ntp.org and DLink's time servers.
Is it possible to detect a system time change on a workstation on a network? There is suspicions that there is someone trying to use their system time as an excuse to go to lunch early at work, "but my computer says its 1 O'Clock" When everyone else's computer displays 12:48.......
I looking to buy SGE 2010 swith, but I have some question:
1. Can I use 4 SFP ports and stack of two switches at the same time. 2. Is it possible to use for stacking ports other than 24, 48? 3. What is maximum possible number of ports to use for stacking (can I get more than 1Gb thruput).
I changed the setting from static to dynamic and the switch froze up. all lights on the panel flashed, when they stopped the system light on the left side continued to flash. I tryied unplugging unit as well as depressing the reset for longer than 30 seconds. Unit still the same.
We have a VOIP system with 1 physical NIC attached to our SG500X. It has a virtual MAC address along with the physical MAC address. It has 2 IP addresses tied to it.
I can ping the physical IP address, but can only ping the virtual address from the same vlan as the virtual nic. However, if I clear the arp table, a few pings will go through until they all time out again. This is causing problems on my phone system, and I need to establish this communication. I have tried putting in static MAC and ARP entries, but that does not work.
I have a DVR system. Which is configure in DMZ on my firewall. DVR internal IP is 192.168.2.13 and external IP is 27.34.xxx.xx. when I am able to access DVR by using internal IP and it works fine while accessing from the internet it not work proper. Though it prompt for username and password also. After enter the login credential its getting blank. I am able to telnet External IP from internet on port 80.
I am trying to connect to my office PCs via VPN and/or RDP. The office uses Qwest DSL and has a dynamic IP address. I use DynDNS.org to keep the DNS updated with the WAN address of the router. However, any attempt to access the network fails. I have tried remote management access (I enabled it on the router) but that fails. I forwarded RDP ports on the router to one of the PCs but can't connect to it. I also set up a VPN server but cannot connect to it either. Something tells me that all requests to myoffice.homeip.net are not getting to my modem/router. I have even tried the IP associated with the name (Yes, I did check that it is correct!) but nothing works there either.
My problem is that the switch all of the sudden doesn't boot up anymore. The System LED constantly flashes, after probably 40-50 seconds or so it constantly lights for a second, afterwards all the lights on the ethernet ports light up for a second and the process starts all over again! The console messages:

My SF300-24 switch has been working 100% as a backup switch for a client of mine. At my clients premises it was running 3 Vlan's and doing inter VLAN routing. When my client received their original switch back, I obviously brought my SF300-24 back to the workshop, reset it back to Factory defaults and tried to do a fresh installation on it. I can not get it to change from Layer 2 to Layer 3! I installed the latest firmware but still no go.
Everything works a 100% via the console, but when I go to the System Mode menu and try and edit it, it justs sits at layer 2 and will not chage to layer 3!
I'm setting up a Network Monitoring System in Nagios and Nagvis. Now, I want to monitor the cpu and memory of the switches SGE2000 and SGE2010 with SNMP. Does the OID for the switches SGE2000 and SGE2010 (CPU and Memory).I can't not seem to find them on the Internet(searched for hours).
Does a portable RPS device either from Cisco or another manufacturer exists, that would allow you to move primary power for a switch without causing an outage? I realize that for the Catalyst 3560 for example, you can get an RPS 2300 or 675, but my understanding is that these are made for a more permanent installation, not to mention rather costly.
It looks like the RPS 675 is rather inexpensive after all, especially in the secondary market, but still rather large for toting around.
I have a computer & Bluray..should I use router to be able to use bothe at same time?I have a single port dsl line..or should I get a mulit port "modem/router"?
I had connected a computer and NTP to the SG500. i had successfullly sync the internet time on the computer. but when i type 'show clock' on the terminal. The switch did not manage to sync the ntp time.
I have 2 network adapter on my PC , but i cant use this 2 internet connection at a time, these connections are taken from main router. is it possible to increase my internet speed ? . i can use each connection seperatly, if one connection remove another will work,
Had laptop connecting wirelessly perfect with no problems. We then added another laptop and PSP 3 to the house hold. Any of the 3 devices will connect to the internet via wireless but ONLY one at a time. If you are connected with one and turn on one of the others it will kick the one off that you were on and only 1 device can use wireless at a time?
My customer uses WS-C3560G-48TS-E switches in air traffic control systems. A requirement for one project is that the entire system be up and running in under five minutes. The WS-C3560G-48TS-E and its replacement - WS-C3560X-48T-E with C3KX-NM-1G - take about four minutes to start up. With other devices added in they exceed their required startup time. They also use WS-C3560V2-48TS-E switches which take about two minutes to start up but they want they GE.
1) Is there way to improve the start up time in the WS-C3560G-48TS-E and WS-C3560X-48T-E switches?
2) Is there another Catalyst switch with similar specifications to WS-C3560G-48TS-E and WS-C3560X-48T-E that has a quicker start up time.
1. Around 100 laptops and desktop computers need wireless internet access, but some of them on limited times during the day.
2. Not all wireless devices are allowed on using the wireless network.
3. There are also wired desktops that don't need restrictions.
4. We need the possibility to restrict most of the wireless devices to access certain websites or use certain applications on those computers to use internet access during the times that the computers are allowed to access the internet.
5. We want to restrict the clients for using torrents or other possibilities of downloading illegal content.
What we were able to do:
1. The accesspoints (AP 541N) are clustered to achieve 1 large wireless network.
2. Only mac-adresses that are listed in the accesspoints are capable of using the wireless network. Other mac-adresses are not allowed to use the accesspoints.
What we tried already:
1. adding the mac-adresses for the accesspoints to the list of "internet access policy" in the router. Internet access seemed still possible during periods the access wasn't supposed to be possible.
2. adding the mac-adresses from all clients in this internet access policy seemed useless. Only 10 Internet Access Policies seem to be possible to program. 8 mac-adresses per policy. Knowing there are (at least) two policies needed to restrict a group of 8 macs to access the internet in 24 hours (because blocking the internet from f.e. 22u in the evening to 6 in the morning is not possible because 6 is smaller than 22 - or 10PM).Besides, after blocking internet access, we need also to write policies in blocking some websites or keywords.
I've just installed an SG300-28 (v01) switch configured in layer 3 mode with 1.0.0.27 firmware. It's working just fine except that when running a traceroute across the switch, it does not respond with an ICMP-11 time exceeded packet. Does this behavior persist in the current 1.2.5 firmware?
I recently installed a Dell 5324 switch as my main switch and it's my first time using a managed switch at home. One thing I've seen as an issue in a corporate environment, and now here, is that managed switches tend to take a bit longer for a port to be active. Ex: a PC is turned off, I turn it on but if the PC boots up very fast the port may not be ready. All mounts fail. This is the issue I am facing with my HTPC. It runs Linux and has a SSD, and it has no UEFI bios to slow it down (which is good, I hate UEFI for that) so it's up and running within 5-10 seconds of pushing the power button. The network mappings fail because the port is not ready by the time it gets to the script that mounts everything.
SG200-08 and SG200-08P fail to hold or update Date/Time.(New installation for a UC320 setup.)I've got both an SG200-08 and SG200-08P that are failing to maintain date/time when set with "Use Local Settings". Every restart/powercycle causes them to reset to Dec 31 1969. Other settings save fine.I first tried to set time via SNTP Unicast using a variety of public time server addresses including the 3 hard coded to the SG200-08 firmware:
Sadly though it always just shows "Active Server Server Host Address: 0.0.0.0" and continues having 12/31/1969 as the date. Both after a config save and a reboot.I can ping the NTP servers just fine from the switches either by IP or by hostname. At this point I've decided that I must be missing something simple. At least I hope so... otherwise it's a firmware bug which means waiting for a fix.Other devices behind the same firewall/gateway (RVS4000) are updating NTP
I have one 2621 router i want to creat time base access list so that one of my subnet user(10.128.194.0 255.255.255.128) use only internet between 11am to 2pm.
I just bought a WAP321 Wireless AP. I wonder why it cannot sync with our time server automatically. Every time I reboot it, the system time become "Fri Dec 31 1999 12:00:00 UCT". I have to do the sync manually by clicking on the "Save" button under the menu Administration > Time Setting.
Ciso 1941 router frozen once a day, sometimes after 2 to 7 days. When the router frozen, no internet connection and cannot login/ping ethernet ports. I can login to console port and copy the error messages below. Reload the router and it will return back to normal operation. Re-installed IOS but still the same.
IOS Version 15.1(2)T2, Cisco CISCO1941/K9 (revision 1.0) with 487424K/36864K bytes of memory. DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity disabled. 255K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory. 250880K bytes of ATA System CompactFlash 0 (Read/Write)
I have WRT54G2 router. All settings are more-less default and the behavior is following. You start up the router. If you do not connect wireless device within 10 minutes, then you have to restart the router. You have assigned IP via wifi, and when you connect cable device to the router, the wifi PCs are disconnected.
