I have a 2911 router inside our network with both DHCP and DNS enabled. Everything works fine except since we use this router we are not being able to go to the network neighbourhood in Windows and look up machines by name (or typing \diskstation for example). Connecting by IP works fine but not by local machine names.

I am working on Cisco 3550 switch on a certain requirement. I have got an access point connected to the switch and few mobile phones connected to the access point. I get the list of mac addresses connected to the switch ( Both access point's mac address & the clients addresses) by "show mac-address table dynamic" command. However, i am unable/confused to get the output of the following scenarios:
1. I would require to export the mac address from the switch to the local machine in any format (May be by using an SNMP tool, if available) so that the same needs to be used in my C# for development.What would be the way for the same ?
2. The mac address in the mac address table doesn't get updated dynamically. (Eg Scenario: A wifi client gets connected to an access point which inturn is connected to the switch, the mac address of the client shows up in the switch table. However if the client is disconnected, the client's mac address would still be displayed in the switch table )
I have a new 2911 that I am trying to bring up but local authentication is failing. I know I have typed the username and password correctly but no go. When I try to http in it is failing as well. I even create a "Cisco, Cisco" account. I have a console connection and even that is failing.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to setup a local DNS server to manage small office local-only domain names for our servers. i have the DNS working properly (resolving local machines and using the ISP dns if it can't). so i put the DNS server ip into the "Static DNS 1" field of the router settings. the other 2 static dns fields are empty.the problem is that the router is still using the ISP dns server as the primary and my local dns server as the secondary. i verify this in two places. first, if i go to the "status" tab, DNS 1 shows the ISP server while DNS 2 shows my local DNS server. secondly, if i connect to the wireless device with a linux-based machine, the /etc/resolv.conf file shows the nameserver ips in the same incorrect order.

All my components that are tied to DIR-655 resolve through IP address. I would like to have the resolution through host name as it works with my first router (DSL Modem / Router). Identifying components with IP address is not only inconvinient in terms of reading / recognizing my components but ther could be other issues. I am not very techie on the networking side but I do have some basic knowledge.
I ran into a very interesting problem that occurred today and I'm trying to figure out why it happened. If it was one ASA 5505 that just required the reboot, then I'd have just chalked it up to a glitch, but when we built a new AD/ DNS server on the main network at the main site and changed the 3 Remote site ASAs to point to the new DNS server in the DHCPD options, none of them could ping any local host names to the DNS server at the main site they were now pointing too, but external host names { URL} all translated and pinged fine.
From a laptop on one of the remote sites, we could ping the new AD/DNS server(192.168.0.3) and the old AD/DNS server(192.168.0.2) and everything else at the main site, and telnet to port 53 showed successful across the Easy VPN from the Remote site to the new server at the main site. When wire shark was added to the new DNS server at the main site, the DNS request and replies for {URL}, for example, came and worked fine, but any requests for local resources never made it to the server from the remote sites.
A reboot of one of the Remote Site ASA's corrected the issue. Then I rebooted the other two remote site ASAs, and now DNS was working fine for everybody. I had also tried clearing the ARP cache on the ASAs before resorting to rebooting them. I also tried rebooting the laptop thinking the local DNS cache needed cleared before resorting to rebooting the ASAs. I'm struggling to understand why external, public host names made it through and resolved from the remote sites to the new server at the main site, but anything local failed before even reaching the new server(The new DNS server could resolve requests made by computers at the main site, but the remote sites that traverse the Easy VPN from the ASAs failed). The new AD/DNS server is the only server configured for DNS for all remote site computers.
Is any of this making sense? I'm wondering if clearing the x late or local host tables would have corrected it without having to reboot. I'm just trying to grasp the understanding here and figure out what happened.

I am running a Windows Home Server machine called "mserver" that has an IP address supplied via DHCP.There is also a local webserver running on port 8089 that I use to access media from several devices (Android Phone, Blackberry Playbook & HP Touchpad...i.e. not Microsoft).When I had the BT Homehub3 in use I could access the webserver via http://mserver:8089 and it would be loaded on all devices. With the WDR3600 used in place of the Homehub3 it cannot resolve mserver into a local IP address on a non windows device. I can access it via http://192.168.0.xxx:8089 so the route is there.Does the WDR3600 have any local DNS resolution? I repeat the BT HomeHub3 CAN do this, so why can't the TP-LINK?

Of course my clients and what I normally use is cloud filtering like mimecast, etc. Any know of a local filtering software or a virtual machine that does filtering I can place between my IP and Exchange?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a PC on a crowded network that cannot handle much more bandwidth usage.I am now going to have a tons of transferring to do offsite so I added a second internet line just to deal with the influx of file transfers.I tried a dual WAN setup on my router and the performance was not improved (if it was nobody noticed it) so I said forget that idea, I only need to do these massive transfers from 1 PC so I will just add a second NIC to the machine so that the 1st NIC can maintain local network functionality and the 2nd NIC will be just for internet traffic (sending files up/down to offsite location) Essentially I just need NIC1 for handling local network, connecting to exchange etc. and NIC2 to handle files transfes to offsite location through seconday internet line.So now I have a desktop PC with two NICs. One of them built into the board, the other a pci add on nic. they are both 10/100
On nic1, there is a connection to my network 200.200.1.X which is the internal network for Exchange, local files transfers etc. This is the network i have always had connected and I have no problem connecting to my exchange server etc. (my server is providing dns/dhcp/wins/AD/MSE for the entire network)so I installed a secondary NIC and a secondary network line to the NIC2 on the machine.I set it up with an IP, a SN, a gateway and a DNSI removed the gateway from the 1st NIC.SO then I tried adding a gateway to BOTH of the NICs..This allows me to do EVERYTHING I want, however when i go to whatismyip.com and get a result, the IP it is giving me is NOT either of my static IPs (each network has a seperate internet line with a static IP). Not sure where this IP is coming from, but if i tracert google.com it says I am going out through the primary adaptor.The new IP from whatismyip.com makes no sense to me as it is not either of my static IPs, however it is very close.Would this be a situation where my ISP see's I have 2 gateways defined so it generates a 3rd external IP for some reason? Never heard of this but i am no guru.essentially I just need NIC1 for handling local network, connecting to exchange etc. and NIC2 to handle files transfers to offsite location through seconday internet line.
I have an ASA 5505 i have uploaded updated clients to the ASA, when a user connects to remote.company.com either via the portal or an existing Anyconnect installation, vpndownloader downloads the new client to the machine and installs it.
My question is, where does it store the new installer on your local machine?I tried searching, but i just get a bunch of crap of where to illegally download anyconnect, instead of anything useful.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWe have one machine running an application accessible remotely. We have cisco877 router, and static ip to access the application remotely. We recently done an update of out application software which has changed the access port/link to application.
since we update the software We can access the application internally through local ip but is not accessible through WAN with static ip, as the port no has changed.
I not having much knowledge of networking don't know what changes should be made in router so it direct the traffic of static ip to the machine running the web application, as before.
I tried looking for clue in router through its SDM Express interface, but no joy.
I am using Cisco 2911 & IOS version is 15.1. My problem is that after some days (e.g. 15-20 days), the routing table suddenly stops updating & then I have to enter the default route again to make it up. I am using Track 1 to track default route here. After primary link goes down, the Track is also going down but after coming the primary link up, the track is not coming up. So, I have to add the default route again to make it up.

Just got TL-MR3040 from amazon, not very happy that it is version 1, they could at least mention it in the description, but whatever...The problem is, i can not make it work with my PC laptop(thinkpad x120e with Windows 7 64 bit). Which means,1 not possible to get into web interface to configure it, and 2 if i configure it with old powerbook (os x 10.4) to share internet from usb stick, i can connect to it's wireless network but it doesn't share internet with my pc laptop,while mac and ipad working perfect...I've try to log in into web interface through the cable, still no luck...Not sure i want to re-install the whole system on my laptop just to see if it will change anything, it works with any other router, and usb sticks...

I'm trying to set up ip sla for vrrp tracking but the commands seem gimped? I don't even have an option for ip sla <operation number>. All I've got is ip sla responder/server/key-chain.
we are in the planning phase for a network upgrade. We have two C2960 Switches connected via one (L2) Etherchannel (4x1 Gbit/s) which works very well. In the next phase we would like to upgrade our router to an 2911 series which has 3 gb interfaces. and indeed we would like to create an etherchannel as well. our plan is to use 2 of the 2911 to connect to the first 2960 switch and the one left to the other 2960. i think we will achieve some redundancy with this config.

Each router will then be connected to local networks on a second ethernet interface on the router. I have always connected routers via serial connections so this is new to me. Outside of the usual ethernet interface addressing configuration, is there anything else that would need to be configured on the 2 routers?

However we probably wont use the security.We are replacing 2811 routers.Unfortunately the 2811 routers have FXS ports with 2 - 4 POTS handsets - I completely forgot about these ports when I was ordering.Now I have VIC3-FXS cards which are ok in the 2911 but unfortunately I cant get them to work.I am missing PVDMs (well adapters anyway), and even if I got them the router wont take any commands relating to voice due to the license.Is is possible to 'rehost' the security and turn it into a UC ?I am new to these 2911 and Licensing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco 2911 router and a Cisco 2960 switch at a remote location.I have a user who will work out of this office a few days out of the week and will need to obtain the same IP address everytime the user visits this office. This office has no file server, no dhcp server. I have the user's MAC address and for now, the user is getting an IP address that is leased for 30 days. I'm trying to find the best way to configure either the router or switch or both so that each time this user connects to this office, that user device will always pull the same IP address and of course no other device will use that IP.
I've did some research in creating a small vlan possibly, and assigning it specifically to the port# that the user's desk is at, but not sure if that's the best way or exactly sure how it'll work. I'm currently studying for my CCNA so this is all new to me and I'm trying to do research and test without obviously causing production issues especially given this is a remote site and I access these devices via putty. I can however drive to the site if needed for testing, but I'd like to have a good grasp on what method I'll be using that will work before I actually make the trip.
The layout of the equipments are as such,other equipment <--> 2911 Router <--> Ether-Switch/3925 Router <--> 7206 <--> Internet,During certain times at night, the 2911 exhibits cpu load, high packet loss and an increase in bandwidth of at least twice it's normal amount. this results in packet loss in all the other equipment. I am attempting to locate who was demanding such a high burst but so far the graphs display normal rates for all the other equipment.Because the 2911 demands an increase from the 7206, the 7206 is able to accommodate this as it still has balance BUT my other equipment that are connected to the 7206 takes a drop in bandwidth as well. the graph shows that when the 7206 bursts higher, the rest of my other links take a slight drop in bandwidth.Also, the graph from Ether-switch to 2911 indicates the bandwidth hike BUT the graph from 2911 to ether-switch does not display the same thing as due to the cpu load, the data is somehow not captured properly.
