Cisco Switching/Routing :: Inconsistency Check In N2K Access Port
Dec 25, 2011
We have configured a Fex port as acces port but the port no up becouse appear in suspended state, i think the problem is a vlan mistmach as appear in the consistence-parameter information but i not found in what part allow the correct vlan, the N2K are connected to 2 N5K, and 5K are connected to2 N7K
%ETHPORT-3-IF_ERROR_VLANS_SUSPENDED: VLANs 41 on Interface Ethernet101/1/48 are being susp ended. (Reason: Vlan is not configured on remote vPC interface) [code]

On a 7K (5.0(2)), I have a situation where the FIB and RIB are out of sync. I'm not sure it's causing a problem, but it's been implicated in some weird packet loss issues. It seems like it could cause network issues if you had two routes in the RIB, only one in the FIB, and then you lost the single path in the FIB. How the RIB/FIB gets out of sequence, how to proactively know about it (nothing in the logs here), and whether or not this is a big deal or a red herring?
Here's sample output that illustrates the RIB and FIB being out of sequence.
ROUTER1# show ip route 172.16.100.1
IP Route Table for VRF "default"
'*' denotes best ucast next-hop

I have a 3750g connected to a "core" switch stack of 7 other 3750g's via 2 GigE ports in a trunk. This is currently in a switchport mode access port- channel so only the default vlan data is sent over. Now we have a need due to physical location of these switches, to allow vlan20 (DMZ) from this 3750g to the switch stack. I will configure a few ports on the switch stack for vlan20 and they need to be able to talk to the stand alone 3750g.To do this I will change the port channel on both endpoints to
-switchport trunk ecapsulation dot1q
-switchport mode dynamic desirable
also making the appropriate change on the interfaces belonging to this trunk. My question is, now that its a trunk port that carries multiple VLANs, how much is the bandwidth reduced on that 2gbps link?I have a very active VLAN (10) on the stand alone switch, but on the core I'm not going to be assigning VLAN 10 to any ports. So does traffic from VLAN10 even come across the trunk (wasting bandwidth) if no ports on the core side are assigned to it? I really just need vlan 1 and 20 (for now).

Cisco... Have two new 3750X switches (24P-L, and 48PF) trying to stack. Brought them up together a few weeks ago with the 24P using LANBase and the 48 IPBase. The expected happened. They saw each other in the stack ring, and the 24 port was excluded due to license miss match. This was corrected. Now both are IPBase. Now I have the two switches stacked, and boot the 48 and 24 at the same time. Monitoring the 48 I get a check message "FIPS: Flash key check: End, Not found. FIPS: Stacking Not Found". The 48 does confirm the stack cable is connected. This happens early in the boot process, before master election.OK.... Now looking at the 24 Port. After applying the new license, and actually booting successfully and few times. It will no longer load the boot file. Wants an environment variable. Going to have to dig into ancient history for that. Had to deal with that one about 8 years ago. Do not feel that is part of the stack disable issue though.

I feel that 3560 and 3750 perform differently with the following two commands:
srr-queue bandwidth shape 5 0 0 0
srr-queue bandwidth limit 50
On 3750, the bandwidth for queue 1 is limited to 100mbps x 50% / 5 = 10mbps
On 3560, the bandwidth for queue 1 is limited to the smaller value of BW / shape weight and BW x limit%.
Does it sound about right? is there a way to check for mls qos input queue drops? The show mls qos interface xxx stat only shows the output queue drops. Maybe for some reason the input queue never drops?

On a small Bording School we have the students living in several small houses, each equipped with an AP.Each Ap serve 4 Vlans.I want to restrict the switch for these AP, in a way to keep the students from removing the AP and connecting their own equipment.I tried using the secure port feature on the SG300, but that had the result of allowing the AP but denying all the users connected to the AP.The switch is a SG300-28P placed in L3 mode.

On a 4500 switch port , defined as access vlan 10, if the user connects his own dhcp server ( instead of the normal pc that should be connected ), will it cause issues with my existing network. the existing network is all static ip. In above case, will the dhcp server start looking out and assign dhcp ip's , if a user unknowingly removes his static ip and changes to obtain ip via dhcp option on the lan properties.

I have a layer 3 switch, 3550.I have several vlans on there just for playing around with. One of the vlans, has a vonage linksys box attached to it with a UK number attached. From time to time telemarketers call at 03:00 in the morning, this as I'm sure you can imagine is not much fun. The linksys box gets 192.168.3.3 as it's ip.The switch is connected to a non cisco router at 192.168.0.1
interface FastEthernet0/24
no switchport
ip address 192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0
I was thinking a time based access list would work best I have tried several variations but the phone still rings. I have tried access-list 1 deny host 192.168.3.3 permit ..... and more extensive lists but the phone still rings. I have not applied the time-range yet, so that's not the problem.I have applied the list to the vlan interface and to fa0/24 but it's not working.

I am aware that the switch and its modules have capability limits. Is there command I can run which will tell me if any module is overloaded or if the fabric/backplane is over utilized? My chassis is WS-C6513 and sup card is WS-SUP720-3B.

I had a bad power surge yesterday that took out a 2960g switch and the APC UPS that it was connected too. when plugged in the fan comes on and the syst light stays amber and the rps, stat, duplex. and speed light stay lit and the port lights for ports 21-24 stay lit. plugging it into the console on boot I cant even see rommon, so i dont think its even booting. I would like to find a pinout and voltage guide for the connector comming off the power supply so I can check the voltages coming off the power supply to tell if it is a bad PSU or if it took out the main board.

we have a scenario that consists of a Cisco 4507 series core switch with more than 20 vlans which is connected to a C2960G switch( in a nearby building) using a trunk by a fiber connection. Up to this point everyhting is fine . VTP domain is configured on the core switch and we have all of the 20 vlans present correctly on the edge 2960G wich is part of course of this same VTP domain.the fiber connection goes from core switch to a "in the middle location" where we have a fiber patch panel that is connected in a jumper style to another fiber patch panel going to the destination building where the C2960G sits.
Now imagine that Fiber connection from this middle location to the destination C2960 edge switch is down for any possible reason meanwhile the fiber connection from Core switch 4507 to the middle location is still intact. In the same time, in this middle location , we do have a wireless connection which links 1 Cisco 3750G switche ( a different infrastructure and different VTP domain) to another C3560G switch which sits on the same Room in the nearby destination building where we have the edge C2960G, An idea came to me is to connect one of the fiber port (core) in the intact fiber patch panel coming from Core switch 4507 TO an access vlan configured switchport in the 3750G switch ( this switchport will belong to a vlan designed only to trasmit the vlans on the trunk coming from 4507 core switch say VLAN 10) then connect one VLAN 10 access switchport to the destination C2960 edge switch ( the switchport on the c2960G is still a trunk)Will this solution work and all of the 20- 4507 core switch vlans arrive to the destination C2960G ? Or we do need something that tags the 2 VLAN 10 switchports like switchport dot1q tunnel like QinQ

we've an infrastructure were the Access is based on Cat3750G Stacks connected to both Cores using L3 connections. On the Access Switches are implemented the following features DHCP Snooping, IP Source Guard and Dynamic ARP Inspection and all is working fine since years...the DHCP Servers are on a dedicated stack which act as a SFarm.
On the Access Switches the port configuration is the following:the Uplink Ports to both of the Cores are configured in TRUST for DHCP Snooping and ARP Inspection the Access Ports, where the end-device are connected, are UNTRUST for DHCP and ARP Inspection with IP Source Guard Active Right now I've to add a new L2 switch on one of the Access Port and I'm wondering if this is possible since I've to keep on the Stack Access Ports all the security feature active and I've also to implement DHCP Snooping on the new L2 switch to avoid rouge DHCP Server...
I suppose that the uplink to the L2 switch on the Stack Access Switch should be left as it is connected to an end device...but the uplink port on the L2 switch should be set up as TRUST...isn'it? Keeping in mind that I want to implement DHCP Snooping also on this L2 switch to avoid that Rogue DHCP Servers will impact the end-device connected to this L2 switch...is this scenario possible??? or I can't do that and should leave DHCP Snooping only on the Access Stack.

when a access switch is connected to core a and core b. RSTP converged but core b elected as Alternate role instead as designated on access switch side to core a as root port and core b as designated. How can I influence access switch port Gi2/0/1 to be elect as Alternate port and Core B port G1/1/1 as Designated port..?

I am trying to configure a 3500XL switch (and I know its old). I get to the int fa 0/1 line and thats where it all stops working.
switch#(config-if)#switch port mode access
switch#copy run start
or
switch#(config-if)#switch port mode access
switch#sh run int fa 0/1
It will show the configuration for port fa 0/1 as if I hadn't entered the "switch port mode access" command. Or any other command for that matter. Why the switch is not holding configuration and seemingly loses it as soon as you exit out of each interface?

Hardware to be used:

2. all connect to a sonic wall router
I have two companies that work in the same office space. I need to keep these companies seperate on their own vlan. They will however need to share the phone system.(Packet tracer file uploaded to give those who have the time to see what I put together.) [code]

On the supervisor card of a cisco 6500 series, according to the following link, [URL] it only has 2 uplink ports on the card. Would I be correct in assuming that I only have those to ports that I can configure IP addresses on?
The cisco that is being devlivere is coming with a 48 port switch and 24 port fibre switch. Could I change any of those ports into a router port and configure IP addresses on those?
The supervisor card is a ws-sup-720-3b the 48 port switch is a ws-x6748-ge-tx the 24 port fibre switch is ws-x6724-sfp

It's different every time I apply the config to the same group of ports. However if I do them one at a time it seems to work. But I really don't want to configure 6 fully populated switches one port at a time. We also have a lot of 3750's and they gave me no problem using a port range. [code]

We just installed a hosted VOIP system using Cisco 7900 series IP phones. We are having a strange issue with a few computers where they pull DHCP information from our VOIP provider's DHCP server on the Internet and not our LAN DHCP server.
The switchports areconfigured as: switchport mode access
My rationale behind this is that the phones would use CDP to get their VLAN info from the providers Cisco router and the PCs would just ride on the default VLAN. But this is not the case. Computers randomly keep getting DHCP info from the provider's router. Do I have to use voice vlan x and make the switchports trunks?
