Dec 10, 2012In our environment we have some HP chassis, and with them there are blade switches. Lately, we've been seeing some drops on few servers connected on the blade switch ports. The switch model is WS-CBS3120X-S. And below is the tx drop for two interfaces ( where the servers are connected to).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Interface Counters On 881
May 15, 2012I notice strange input rates on the interfaces of a 881 router:

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit/sec, DLY 100 usec

30 second input rate 85000 bits/sec, 11 packets/sec
30 second output rate 16000 bits/sec, 9 packets/sec
221434 packets input, 287889736 bytes
..
..
142286 packets output, 15683576 bytes, 0 underrun
How can 11 packets/sec be 85000 bits/sec -- average packet size of 8KB?. The total packets input (221434 packets versus 287+ MB) also shows this kind of a 10KB+ average packet size. There is ahardly any traffic through the router when the above snapshot was taken so 11 packets/sec sounds right, but not the 85Kbits/sec.
The router is running c880data-universalk9-mz.151-4.M4.bin and config is simple with a single Vlan (inside NAT) with a public IPs on fa4 and a couple of IPs for dynamic NAT. Everything works fine except for these interface counters that look worng.

However, I've confirmed via our netflow monitor that the traffic we're trying to send to the appropriate next hop is, indeed, getting there correctly.
I've seen issues in the past with a 3750 not reporting counters correctly.
Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2970 Port Based ACL Counters
Oct 16, 2012This is a continuation of my last post in which I need to apply ACLs to the physical ports within Etherchannels. The switch is a Catalyst 2970 running IOS 12.2. These Etherchannels are configured as trunks with 2 VLANS allowed on each trunk.I have applied an inbound ACL on the physical ports that filters based on layer 3 and layer 4 traffic. The issue that I am seeing is that the counters for the ACL are not increasing even though the ACL is clearly doing its job. At the end of the ACL I have an entry of "permit ip any any". Removing this from the list causes connectivity problems to the server on this port. Adding it back and everything is back to normal. However the counters don't increase. At first I thought maybe this wasn't supported on this switch but then I noticed the counter had increased to "2 matches" later in the day. What is the normal behavior is for this switch and does it support logging on an ACL entry as well.

Some parameters i can get by snmp (InBytes,InUcastPkts,InMcastPkts, and so on from out), but how can i take other parameters? I would like to do it by snmp but i did not find proper oids. Now I making a sheme like this: eem every 90 seconds takes this info and writes it down to file into nvram and then send it by scp to server, where file is processed by monitoring system script. It is not very good, cause cisco system cpu sometimes spikes of this and i dont know a resourse of nvram, how much times can i write to it?

I am keeping the four Sup720 modules and have purchased new versions of the others blades including two new 6509-E chassis?Can I take my stand-by Sup720 out of the production machine and insert it into the new chassis?

We have a couple of 6509-V-E Switches with mutiple interfaces (VLAN interfaces and Layer 3 interfaces) The problem is, campus manager discovers the switch by a interface randomly...one time its a lay3 Interface and another one its a vlan interface which none of them are in DNS hence no name resolution can be made.

Jan 17, 2013Cisco... Have two new 3750X switches (24P-L, and 48PF) trying to stack. Brought them up together a few weeks ago with the 24P using LANBase and the 48 IPBase. The expected happened. They saw each other in the stack ring, and the 24 port was excluded due to license miss match. This was corrected. Now both are IPBase.Now I have the two switches stacked, and boot the 48 and 24 at the same time. Monitoring the 48 I get a check message "FIPS: Flash key check: End, Not found. FIPS: Stacking Not Found". The 48 does confirm the stack cable is connected. This happens early in the boot process, before master election.OK.... Now looking at the 24 Port. After applying the new license, and actually booting successfully and few times. It will no longer load the boot file. Wants an environment variable. Going to have to dig into ancient history for that. Had to deal with that one about 8 years ago. Do not feel that is part of the stack disable issue though.

srr-queue bandwidth shape 5 0 0 0
srr-queue bandwidth limit 50
On 3750, the bandwidth for queue 1 is limited to 100mbps x 50% / 5 = 10mbps
On 3560, the bandwidth for queue 1 is limited to the smaller value of BW / shape weight and BW x limit%.
Does it sound about right? is there a way to check for mls qos input queue drops? The show mls qos interface xxx stat only shows the output queue drops. Maybe for some reason the input queue never drops?

Cisco Catalyst 3550 switch (192.168.100.6 /24)
Cisco 1841 router (192.168.100.7 /24)
Asus RT N66U wireless router (192.168.100.2 /24)
Here's my network topology:
I have two VLANs - 10 and 20. 2 DHCP pools are configured on 2 1841's interfaces - 192.168.1.0 /25 and 192.168.1.128/26 with default router sitting on 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.129 respectively. No issues with obtaining IP address from any of those pools.Laptop connects to L3 3550 switch (switchport access vlan 10), which, in turn, connects to 1841 router through trunk (with VLANs 10 and 20 allowed).3550 is connected to 2960 through trunk with VLANs 10 and 20 allowed.Wireless router is connected to 2960.I can successfully ping my wireless router and outside world from 1841 from fa0/1 interface, but not from fa0/1.10 or fa0/1.20 sub-interfaces - all packets got dropped. My laptop can obtain IP from both pools (depending on port I connect it to), but can't ping my wireless router and anything beyond it.

I am aware that the switch and its modules have capability limits. Is there command I can run which will tell me if any module is overloaded or if the fabric/backplane is over utilized?My chassis is WS-C6513 and sup card is WS-SUP720-3B.

Feb 25, 2013I had a bad power surge yesterday that took out a 2960g switch and the APC UPS that it was connected too. when plugged in the fan comes on and the syst light stays amber and the rps, stat, duplex. and speed light stay lit and the port lights for ports 21-24 stay lit. plugging it into the console on boot I cant even see rommon, so i dont think its even booting. I would like to find a pinout and voltage guide for the connector comming off the power supply so I can check the voltages coming off the power supply to tell if it is a bad PSU or if it took out the main board.

Sep 2, 2012I am trying to connect a 6509 switch to a 4503-E switch using single mode dark fiber over a distance of less than half a mile. Although a routine task, it does not work..We have a care 6509 switch where we concentrate all of our dark fiber connections for our remote sites. The 6509 switch already has 30 remote sites, most of them with 4503-E switches, connected in this way therefore it is a tested scenario. For the connections we use the GLC-LH-SM SFPs on both switches. Out of these 30 sites we had a similar problem with two of them, which we solved with the use of CWDM SFPs. With the CWDMs the fiber came up right away. However, I cannot keep using this solution because it is way too expensive! I had the losses of the fiber measured end-to-end and they are negligible (>0.5 dB).
In this latest case, like I said, we could not bring the connection up between the core 6509 switch and the 4503-E switch using the GLC-LH-SM SFPs. I then replaced the 4503-E switch with a 3560 and the link came up! Then I tried using a CWDM-SFP in the 4503-E, while keeping the GLC-LH-SM SFP in the 6509 and the link came alive again! Of course we already tried replacing the fiber patch cords with no luck. [code] I find it very weird for the link to work with the 3560 or with a CWDM in the 4503 but NOT with the SFP in the 4503!

On two switches so far, we are seeing that clients can not connect, and the switch isnt detecting a link. I dont see anything out of the ordinary in int status, port-security, or errors on the interface. Plugging in a different computer does nothing. Only thing that works, is a shut, no shut of the interface. After that, its connected.
