Cisco Switching/Routing :: ME3600 Does Not Support Rstp
Apr 24, 2013
i have some ME-3600x. some of version 12.2 and one of version 15.5. te last one hast same config as all other. but if i check for rstp it sends.i know abount global config commands:
-spanning-tree mode rapid-pvst
-spanning-tree extend system-id
but there is no spanning-tree support. this causes many more problems. so it is important to solve spanning tee at first.is it possible without downgrading this device?

I have a very basic setup here but strange the router is learning RIP routes advertised by the switch but the switch is learning anyRIP routes. Debug shows the switch is sending updates but not receiving any. There is also these error: %MRIB_API-3-ASYNC_ERR: Asynchronous error: failed to register to the MRIB. errno 0xE
I can ping across the gig 0/2 (switch) and GIg 0/2/0 (router)
sw01 - ME 3600
rtr1 - ASR 1001
sw01 config

I faced with a strange behavior of ME3600.For testing purposes I linked Cat3550 and ME3600 switches via trunk mode. All interfaces are in Up state. But I couldn't ping SVI200 of Cat switch from ME3600 and vice versa. [cde]
This scheme perfectly works with another L3 swithes. For example Catalist3750. I know that ME doesn't support VTP, DTP and so on. Also, I've tried latest software.

When I plug in a workstation to 3750 switch - it seems to take about 35 seconds before that workstation (hard coded IP) can ping the switch. You can see the console messages below. I configured RSTP and set this switch to root:
spanning-tree mode rapid-pvst
spanning-tree extend system-id
spanning-tree vlan 22,33,44 priority 8192

I have a 7609 with two LAG groups (Etherchannel not LACP) going to two separate devices that DO NOT participate in spanning-tree (Occam gear if you must know). I'm running 802.1w across the LAG groups but the convergence time is terrible! In essence, the 7609 is running spanning tree against itself (between the two blades). What can I do to fix my configuration?
If I disable the ports on the equipment connected to g1/17 & g1/18, it takes ~30 seconds for spanning tree to start forwarding on g2/17 & g2/18.When I bring the ports back up on the other side of g1/17 & g1/18 which are in a lag group, g2/17 & g2/18 immediately go into block mode while g1/17 & g1/18 start learning for another ~30 seconds!! What's wrong with my config? If I shutdown a port or pull a link it takes ~30 seconds to converge.
I have set spanning-tree portfast default on the 4948's. Is it proper to set my uplinks on these switches (g1/1) to shared or does that disable RSTP?
Switch 1 & 2 are 4948's running 12.2(54)
Switch 1 & 2 are connected on port 43
Switch 1 port 1 is connected to the 7609 12.2(33) SRD5 on port g1/2 Switch 2 port 1 is connected to the 7609 on port g2/2
I have a host on Switch 1 port 42 for testing.

Does the nexus 7010 support virtual switching yet? All of the posts I have found from about a year ago say that it is going to be supported, but there were no dates listed. I heard the same thing from Cisco a while back, but haven't followed up with it.If it is supported finally are there any configuration guides available for it?

I have two sites connected to each other using L2 MPLS/1Gbps "provided by the telecom", the link is configured as a 802.1q trunk and terminated on C3750 on both sites. Everything is working fine according to the below configuration. But i am facing QoS limitations on the number of queues, i checked cisco web site and found that the ME3600/3800 has HQoS which will give me advanced QoS features.I am thinking to migrate from the 3750 to ME3800, but i am new to metro switches. if i can apply the same below configuration on ME3800 except the QoS as i will replace it by MQC configuration? So can I consider that the ME3800 has all 3750 features plus MQC QoS?

Coincidentally when i tried to configure router 877 as an adsl router i found that a vlan configuration is included. my question is what is the benefit of using vlans in router ??? i studied that we use it in switches for the purpose of network enhancment from broadcasts and netwrok segmentation. why we use vlans in routers ?

Does the 4500 support VSS (Virtual Switching System) ? On the official product overview page it says: 1.6 Terabits capacity with Virtual Switching System (hardware-ready)What means Hardware ready ? Does it mean that it supports VSS in the same manner as the 6500 ? The reason I'm asking this question is that I didn't find any info on the Internet about this. We would like to upgrade our network by interconnecting the 2 sites with Layer 2 redundant links (Layer 2 extension), but I'd like to use the both links in a load-balancing manner, which can be a real pain in the *** with STP. The choice is between 4500 and 3750 stackable core switches. The 6500s are very expensive.

I have a 3560G switch with c3560-advipservicesk9-mz.122-46.SE and 2 routers. The switch has vlans defined. I want to route all traffic on vlan 25 out of one of the routers exclusively. Here is what I have attempted:
-Set the SDM template to routing & reload
-Define an access-list for the v lan traffic
-Define the route-map
-Apply the route-map to the vlan interface
When I attempt the last step I receive the following syslog error:
%PLATFORM_PBR-3-UNSUPPORTED_RMAP: Route-map RM_IMDGuest not supported for Policy-Based Routing
Also, the route-map is removed from the vlan interface after this error is thrown. Im 99% confident that PBR is supported on this switch (am I wrong?). Here is the relevant show output:...
access-list 125 permit ip 192.168.25.0 0.0.0.255 any
route-map RM_IMDGuest permit 10
match ip address 125
set ip next-hop 192.168.5.3

We purchased ME 3400 switch and trying to implement it. But its quite surprising in the ME3400 configuration guide that the switch does not support VTP. When I checked in Feature navigator under feature "VTP" i could see ME3400 supports VTP. But when i get into CLI of ME3400, i am not getting any option of configuring VTP. I could see in some sites VMPS is supported in ME3400.
I would like to confirm the following:
1. Does VTP support present in ME3400 or not? If not, what would be the reason that it is not included in ME3400.
2. If not what is the alternative.
Network is already running VTP of around 30 switches.

I am looking for a router to route between VLANs on a Cisco Small Business 300 Series 10-port Gigabit Managed Switch. The router needs to support 802.1Q and also have Gigabit ports.I have been looking at the Cisco small business RV series of routers but most of these seem like Wireless routers and I don't know if these will act as proper routers.I already have a Cisco SRP547 and this does not seem to have proper 802.1Q support.
