what is the best way to remove configs from ports (GigE or Fa) in a 6500 that we aren't using anymore (i.e. best way to return a port to default). Remove each line one at a time or is there a command to default a port?
View 2 RepliesOn a number of 6500 chassis it appears that linecard 3 did exist at somepoint, but was removed.Problem is that when issuing the 'show int desc' or 'show ip int brie' the ports for the still appear, and indeed same with 'show run' and 'show conf'.

They have just installed a new server farm infrastructure using Nexus 5596 and Nexus 2248TP top of rack switches.I have been looking for documentation on how to do NIC teaming on the 3355 or some way to connect Gig0 to FEX101 and Gig1 to FEX102. Or do I just setup a port channel using LaCP between the two different FEX groups?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ASA 5505 without any IPS module.While copy/pasting some configurations from another 5510 with IPS I copied my mistake the some of the IPS configurations part. Now I can't remove it.When ASA starts I get this Warning:
...WARNING> IPS policy is configured without an SSM card.
*** Output from config line 828, " ips inline fail open"
Those lines are:
policy-map Outside_Policy
class IPS_class
ips inline fail-open
When I try to do "no ips inline fail-open" I get an "invalid input detected".If I try a no class IPS_class I get that is being in use.What can I do to clean up those lines?
Is there a way to configure one of the GigE ports on the E4200 to only work on the "guest" network? Basically I have a need to setup one of those ports to get to the Internet, but I don't want it to be able to get to anything else on the private side.

In a L2 'V' topology this results in all multicast traffic routed onto a VLAN being forwarded to the 2nd distribution switch. My question is how should a 6500 Sup720 deal with this unwanted multicast traffic? Both a Local SPAN of the RP and a Netdr capture suggest that this traffic is punted to the RP and ultimately dropped. Is this expected behavior or should the traffic be dropped in H/W?

"Central CEF mode:The CEF FIB and adjacency tables reside on the route processor,and the route processor performs the express forwarding. Use this CEF mode when line cards are not available for CEF switching, or when features are not compatible with distributed CEF."
If line cards do no support CEF, then FIB and adjacency tables are built and are located on route processor( control plane ). Data plane operations are implemented in software and route processor performs those operations.
Some Cisco switches actually use different hardware to control the different planes. For example, the Cisco Catalyst 6500 is a modular switch that uses the Multilayer Switch.Feature Card (MSFC) for control-plane operations, and the supervisor Policy Feature Card (PFC) for the data-plane operations.
Supervisor module has has MSFC and PFC. MSFC implements control plane operation where as PFC implements data plane operation.But the first paragraph says in Central cef mode, both data plane and control plane operations are implemented by route processor. [code]
Do these switches implement the Central mode cef in same way as mentioned above. i.e

View 4 Replies View RelatedI built a VSS pair with a couple of 6509's. This was our first pair so we took the opportunity to do some testing. One of the features we tested was the priority/preemption feature, which we decided not to use. After some time we shutdown switch 1 and relocated it to another building. Unfortunately, because of a lack of fiber, it was not connected to switch 2 for several months. Also, unfortunately, I failed to remove the priority commands. Now while switch 1 was "unconnected", we made changes to the config on switch 2. Months later, when the fiber was complete and I connected switch 1, preemption caused it to take over. I'm guessing switch 1 thought it's config file was the better one, and proceeded to overwrite switch 2's production config. I quickly disconnected the fiber but not before losing my production config on switch 2. We of course recovered from that with a backup, but now I need to connect switch 1 again. I have removed the priority command from switch 1 and rebooted it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a SG300-28P and a SF200-24P connected via LAG Group. SG300 routes. I also have 2 VC240 IP Cameras. They are connected on ports 18 and 19 on the SF300. If I lose power, reboot or anything that makes the switches restart, the configuration is not saved. I know this by the fact that after a reboot, ports 18 and 19 are placed in VLAN 4 Untagged. If I put them back in VLAN 2 Untagged, save the configuration and reboot, they are placed back in VLAN 4 Untagged.
I read something on here about firmware the other night from my iPad so today, I upgraded both switches to the latest firmware, 1.2.7.76. After the update, I could not access the IP Cams. I went back into the configuration and they were in VLAN 4 Untagged. I once again put them in VLAN 2 Untagged, saved the configuration and rebooted. They went back to VLAN 4UP.
There was previous discussion also about xml version of files or something and that a factory reset and setting the switch up from scratch would take care of it. I cannot do this, I am a seed corn salesman. Is there a simpler way? Like saving the config to TFTP and then uploading it after factory reset? There is LLDP settings for my IP Phones too that if I lost them, I would have no idea how to regenerate them to make my switch work again. Cisco tech support had issues with it when I first got them and they set it up via remote session so I am lost beyond this. I just know that I cannot keep going into the switches to change settings and not have them saved. I lose my security cameras and video recording.

Step2 Verify that the WiSM2 shuts down. Do not remove the module from the switch until the POWER LEDis off.
But, in the case of Step1 (1st methods) I do not see a option "shutdown" in the command "hw-mod module 3"...

I wanted to remove some logging that was on an entry on one of our extended ACL's. On 1 this worked fine with the no 400

However on 2 it lets me carry out the no 400 command but when i go to add the 400 <acl rule without log> i get the error % Duplicate sequence number.sure enough when i perform the 'Show access-lists <Name>' it is still there!
I have tried the following:
Adding a duplicate ACL entry before it (399) without log and i still get hits on line 400Adding and removing the duplicate created line 399 (without logging) with no issues.Adding and removing a dupliacte ACL (without Logging) after (line 401) with no issues
It looks like it is just this line it seems to think it has removed but hasn't?!
I understand an option is to duplicate the ACL in a text editor remove line, delete the ACL and put the edit back in .....however i wondered if this is something known (bug).
