Cisco Wireless :: Remove WiSM2 From Catalyst 6500 Series Switch?
Jul 21, 2012
how to safely remove the WiSM2 from the Catalyst 6500 series switch? According to the documentation "Catalyst 6500 Series Wireless Services Module 2 Installation and Verification Note":
To remove the WiSM2, perform these steps:
Step1 Shut down the module by one of these methods: In privileged mode from the router prompt, enter the hw-mod module mod shutdown command. NoteIf you enter this command to shut down the module, you must enter the following commands in global configuration mode to restart (power down, and then power up) the module: Router# no power enable module modRouter# power enable module mod If the module does not respond to any commands, press the SHUTDOWN button located on the front panel of the module.
Step2 Verify that the WiSM2 shuts down. Do not remove the module from the switch until the POWER LEDis off.
But, in the case of Step1 (1st methods) I do not see a option "shutdown" in the command "hw-mod module 3"...
All I prompted to enter is: c6500#hw-module module 3 ?
boot Specify boot options for the module through Power Management Bus control register
reset Reset specified component
simulate Simulate options for the module Is it hidden options?
IOS version of c6500 is 12.2(33)SXJ1
In the case of Step2 (2nd methods) there is not any button on the front panel of the module?
And yet, it is better to remove the module configuration manually or use the command module clear-config prior to removing the module?
I have a situation where a customer doesn't have the required power units installed in their 6500 for me to provision a WiSM2.They use a VSS pair with a single Sup720 in each. They have no intention of adding a second Sup to each chassis.
I need to justify why they can't use slot 6 (which has power reserved) if I am to get them to upgrade the PSU's. The documentation I've found says it is supported but not recommended.
I've just reset our WISM2 in the test lab back to factory default as I needed to reconfigure the 6500 and the WISM2 itself. Bearing in mind I had it working before.I've just renamed and re-addressed some of the vlans so things flow better and make it easier to add more WISM2s in the future. Now I've run through the initial configuration and it's rebooted ok and show WISM status is showing Oper-Up and there's a port channel 407 been created as I would expect. However, I am unable to get to the management interface via GUI or SSH. In fact from the 6500 I can't even ping the management interface (but I can the service port). The Vlans have been changed in the 6500 config so it knows the native-vlan and service vlan etc and all the vlans are up/up.
I've installed our previous WISMs and other WISM2s previously and never had a problem.
6500 running SXJ2. WISM2 running 7.3.101.0 (which is what the rest of our WISM2s are on)
Insert WISM and go through initial setup. Run a show wism status on the 6500, and show sysinfo on the WISM. All looks good. Service port and management vlans are up. From the 6500 I can ping the service port IP, but not the management IP. From the WISM I can't ping the managment default gw but I can the service port. Unable to get anything back from the GUI..not surprising as not even ping works.
Now, as I said I've done it this way many times before...in fact I'm following my documentation from the last successful implementation and even adding in Cisco docs.
I'm trying to configure Catalyst 2960 series 8 port switch in my office. I have just plugged in switch and started and then put Ethernet cable (which is coming from the wall port (LAN) into CONSOLE (switch). and connected my laptop's ethernet cable to switch's 1x por
I have a routed interface on a Cisco 6500 Series switch. I am trying to find a way to adjust the tcp mss.To date I have not yet been able to find a way to accomplish this. Is this just not supported?
one of the most widely deployed switches in the world. The "Swiss Army knife of network", can do routing, switching, security, wireless and almost everything that you would want your core switch to do. Remember to use the rating system to let Akshay know if you have received an adequate response.

But when I telnet to the device and run a "show env temperature status" I get:
# show env temp status Temperature Value: 32 Degree Celsius Temperature State: GREEN Yellow Threshold : 51 Degree Celsius Red Threshold : 61 Degree Celsius
So I'm not sure why I am getting a "1" when using snmpget on the OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.3.1.3.1005 which is (ciscoEnvMonTemperatureStatusValue)??
If I run the same OID on another 3560G Router I get the correct output from snmp....
we have cisco 6500 series switch and configured port channel on both switches with 2 gig interfaces on both switches.
When we enable the port channel mode to as desirable to the interfaces on both side and applied the port channel to physical interfaces switch will go down and if we remove on any one side switch will come up. we have enabled globally the following commands. [code]
I want to limit the bandwidth of my Catalyst 3750 series switch, I read the cisco documentation and I applied the commands but I didn't get the wanted results.
For the outbound traffic it's ok, but for the inbound traffic I used policing but I get an unstable traffic. I used, an access list and a class-map to classify the traffic and then a policy-map.(I followed the steps mentioned in this site: [URL]
I came across this Multichassis EtherChannel Features when read about information from Cisco Smart Business Architecture. After checking further, knowing that Cataly stwitch 6500 supports this feature.provide information that beside Catalyst 6500, is there any other model of Catalyst switch can support this feature?
Is there any challenge to upgrade core switch 6500 series from Nexus 7009 which runs NxOS, because i have 3750X series switches connected at distribution and access layer in my network topology??
Is there any challenge if we place NxOS in core and IOS in distribution and Access layer??? how we are able to match sh run config in existing 6500 switch to Nexus 7009 NXOS?
Are there any best practices for preventative maintenance on Catalyst Chassis switches. Looking to build a PMI schedule for a customer. Or is there evidence not to perform it at all. Things like re-seating line cards, cleaning fan exhausts, etc.
I have been researching a way to remove this subnetted route from my L3.There is an extra subnetted route that should not be there when I execute the command: show ip route
Below if part of my Show Run and the Show IP Route commands. You will see the 10.0.0.0/24 subnet as subnetted. I dont know why the L3 uses the 10.0.0.0/24 when I enter 10.10.10.0/24? But thats a whole different questions.
interface Vlan1 no ip address shutdown ! interface Vlan2 ip address 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0 ! interface Vlan3
what is the best way to remove configs from ports (GigE or Fa) in a 6500 that we aren't using anymore (i.e. best way to return a port to default). Remove each line one at a time or is there a command to default a port?
I'm part way through trying to set a Catalyst 4510R to factory defaults, One thing I'm stumped on is how do i remove the Customer Disclaimer eg what commands do i need to remove this and any other customer text within the switch, below is copy of text from the switch with customers details omitted.
I'm having trouble with a Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series Switch where by I'm following the procedure from Cisco's web site to remove the Banner and login information, url..
Each command is being accepted by the switch from following the information given within the help sheet above, the problem i have now is when i turn the power off then turn the switch back on I'm still getting the banner and login information even though i have follwed Cisco's help correctly.
On a number of 6500 chassis it appears that linecard 3 did exist at somepoint, but was removed.Problem is that when issuing the 'show int desc' or 'show ip int brie' the ports for the still appear, and indeed same with 'show run' and 'show conf'.
I have had an EA4500 and EA6500 have the following problem:I have time warner cable internet, Motorola SB6141 modem. The modem connects to an Ooma Telo. The 4500 and then 6500 are connected to the ooma.I have this problem when the routers where placed in front of the ooma as well.
1 time per day, always at the same time, the router stops working. for both wired and wireless connections. i need to unplug the router to work. The modem and ooma continue to work, so i know there is internet getting passed from the modem to the ooma. However, the internet gets disruptted with the routers.
this must be a settings issue with the router. where everyday at the same time, maybe when timewarner changes over or something the router does not pick it up?? i dont know. i have gone through 2 routers and same identical problem.
I have 2x6500s series catalyst core switch. i configurated vss. all them are working normal. but i have one problem. some of my servers link is down sometimes. I configurated server links as etherchannel.at etherchannel not both of links down only one link down.this modules i used to connect servers to core switch. modules 3 and 7 slot.
Two days ago, a brilliant guy inserted a different ios in a Cisco Catalyst 6500 and erased the original ios. I have twice downloaded the original ios by xmodem (too much time!) and both of them, when I reload the 6500, it doesn't work: I have the following message:
loadprog: bad file magic number: 0x0 boot:cannot load "bootdisk:s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF11.bin"
Second time, when the ios uploaded, I checked the sup-bootdisk: and the flashboot: and both have the wrong ios listed, but it wasn't there: I've tried to delete it and squeeze it, but had a message saying "can't delete because the ios is not there" or something like this. I finished formatting both (flashboot: and sup-bootdisk:), tftp the ios, double-checked the bootloader, compared with other identical 6500 and reloaded again, just to find the same message I've written before.
Supervisor 720 PFC3B. Slots for disk0 and disk1 are broken or I can't read them from the rommon.
We are facing an issue with the NAM3.Version: 5.1(2-patch4)
we can not login using the GUI. when we try to login we are getting the following warning:
Initializing database. Please wait until initialization process finishes.(see attachment)
we have rebooted the NAM3 module but the issue is not solved. the NAM3 module is running on 6500 Series Switch.(Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Network Analysis Module (NAM-3)
i have a question regarding egress queuing on cat6500 modules. e.g. WS-X 6704 has 1p7q4t is egress-modell. my goal is to limit the priority queue to 15% of the available bandwidth. i can put weights on the wrr-queues and limit their ressources: "wrr-queue bandwidth 50 20 15 0 0 0 0." but this isn´t possible for the priority-queue. only available command is "priority-queue queue-limit 15" but this only restricts the buffer to 15%.
at the end of the day i want to prevent that the wrr-queues don´t have remaining bandwidth when the priority-queue is saturated.
is there an easy way to restrict the bandwidth of the priority queue or do i have to implement additionally some kind of policing?
Does SIP-401 module for 12000 series router supports LI IOS software, or that function can be activated only with sip-600. Can I run Lawfull Interception with sip-401 module on 12406 router ??
and can SIP-200 module for Catalyst 6500 run lawfull interception ios and be used for that purpose ???
I have a strange issue with 4500 E chassis loaded with SUP 7L-E which always remains in ORANGE LED status, also the uplink ports interface is down and the line protocol is down but when i execute the command sh int gig1/5 it show me the media type sfp but there is no red laser light seen in the sfp transiever,The below command is configured for the uplink gig port on the SUP engine.hw-module uplink select gigabitethernet?
