Cisco WAN :: 1841 Multiple Forwarded Ports Not Showing As Open
Sep 26, 2012
I have a client with a cisco 1841 router with a static public ip. He has 3 dvr's he wanted to acces from the internet and we opened the ports for the dvr's ip's. The issue were having is that only the first ip that we opened shows the port opened and works ok, the other 2 ip with their ports show closed.

I have been using Linksys routers for quite some time now, and recently made a big upgrade from the WRT54G to the E3000. I am familiar with the 192.168.1.1 interface and its functionality. However, I recently noticed a problem: when I set a port to forward traffic to any IP address on my network and then check whether or not it is actually open (url...), I am told that the port is still closed. More interestingly still, the first port that I forwarded when I first got the router is listed as open, but the other half dozen or so are still considered closed. I have been trying to set up a file transfer protocol (FTP) server, but can't even get traffic to forward from port 21! I even tried using the pre-configured FTP drop down on the Applications & Gaming tab, but to no avail. Has anyone had similar issues, or perhaps an idea as to why only one port is forwarded when I have followed the same steps that I have been using for years?
I tried to get in touch with Technical Support about this issue, but was told that I needed to purchase a $30 subscription in order to qualify for assistance. I don't think that I should have to pay $30 to know why the same steps work with some ports but not with others.

I have my 2Wire AT&T U-Verse router properly set up to forward the port 25565 from my machine. (Incidentally, PortForward.com gives me a blank page when I try to look up how to do this.) However, when I test the port is indeed open ( Open Port Check Tool - Test Port Forwarding on Your Router ), it returns as closed. Yes, I'm running the server software while I run the test. I only have the Windows Firewall, but I ran attempts while the firewall was completely disabled as well as with just the appropriate programs allowed.

I have a domain name which I register to my WAN address so I can do service hosting from my home network. I recently switched out my WRT54G running DDWRT with an EA2700. I set up my port forwards and static dhcp assignments and they are working from outside my network, but when I try any network operation involving my WAN address from my LAN machines, the connections just timeout.
I read in some posts that "you cannot do this" and "you have to test from a remote internet machine". Well, this WORKED with DDWRT, so it's not like it's impossible to make a router that does this. Why can't I do this with the EA2700? Is there some magic setting that will let this work??
The whole point of using a domain name is that I can access my services ANYWHERE using the convenient "name" thing.. genius, right? Except when I bring my laptop home and suddenly my domain goes non-responsive.

Why is loop-back only working on ports forwarded in the Virtual Server section and not Port Forwarding or even DMZ? I have seen a post about loop-back on the DIR-655 from a while ago that had said to disable SPI and change NAT Endpoint to independent, I have done this and loop-back still doesn't work.

I've been looking into IGMP snooping and have read that a L2 switch will forward multicast traffic to all ports connected to an interested receiver AND all mrouter ports. In a L2 'V' topology this results in all multicast traffic routed onto a VLAN being forwarded to the 2nd distribution switch. My question is how should a 6500 Sup720 deal with this unwanted multicast traffic? Both a Local SPAN of the RP and a Netdr capture suggest that this traffic is punted to the RP and ultimately dropped. Is this expected behavior or should the traffic be dropped in H/W?

How can I allow all ports to be open? I don't really want my 1811 to block any traffic. I tried the command access-list 1 permit any which allows me to surf the internet, but when I check my web server, and port 3389 (Remote desktop) on yougetsignal.com it says those ports are blocked.

I'm setting up a second exchange 2010 server at a DR location and have been experiencing some problems. The two sites are connected via a pair of ASA5510's using the point to point VPN. I want to rules out any possible VPN issues that may be blocking ports and wanted to see if there is an easy way to do this and simply allow all traffic without any restrictions between the two ASAs. I've attached the scrubbed configs here...Ewing is the primary site and DBSi is the DR site.

No ports seem to open up when they are supposed to be open according to the routers GUI.When i use "port checker"-websites, they even say that port 80 is closed until i actively open it in the router, then it shows up as open. This however only applies to port 80, no other ports shows as open OR allow any traffic through.The same thing happens when the router is in DMZ.What I have done so far is google my butt off without any results, I have tried a new router, a new network card, formated, re-installed windows and made sure that my ISP is not blocking the ports that i have tried to open.My purpose of opening a port is to run a mumble server, which I have run on a Hamachi VPN so far, and that has worked fine.

I can't open up any ports.I've tried using applications such as Simple Port Forwarding, PFPortChecker and manually by opening my router gateway (192.168.1.1).I can open a port, but if I check whether the port is open, it says that the port is closed. I tried opening ports through Windows Firewall and even disabling firewall, still won't work.

I have this problem i can't open my ports on my D-link 524, i have opened about 6 ports so that my XBOX 360 works with a open nat, i have also set the DMZ to my xbox's IP which is static btw, my PC is also static. This is how i basically tested and it told me that it was not opened. I went into:
192.168.0.1 -> Advanced -> Virtual Servers ->
Enabled
Name: XBL1
Private IP: 192.168.0.100 ( because i was testing it on the computer - if it
were 360 it would be .141 )
Both UDP and TCP at port 3074
Schedule=Always
Apply -> Then restarts modem/router i waited for 2 minutes before turning them on again, i turned router on first because some guide told me to do that.
I did exactly what they did on portforwarding.com then i opened up portchecker and typed in 3074 and pressed check -> This port is NOT opened. What is wrong? This is how my net is set up.
Modem ZyXEL -> D-Link 524 -> D-Link DGS 1005D -> Computer/XBOX.

I am having the most difficult time trying to setup the Cisco 1841 with a new Fiber Optic ISP. I have no experience with Cisco equipment but have taught myself some basics. All my attempts have ended with failure. I definitely will be taking some cisco courses soon.
Our current setup
20mbs Fiber Optic ISP
- They are providing us a x.x.129.233/30 WAN IP and a x.x.131.225/27 Public IP Block Cisco 1841 Router (Which has no configuration at all, it was wiped by the ISP) 1x HP Procruve 2610 24 port Gigabit Switch
What we need is simple, we just need to distribute the Public IP block through to the LAN on the switch side. I would post a config if I had one already made, but the 1841 is a clean slate. I just wiped it again to start fresh.

I have a Cisco / Linksys SRW 2016 switch, all was working fine. Powered off and powered back on a day later.Switch powered up and the system light lit.But non of the ports what had cables connected were active....If you connect a network cable to the switch and then a laptop / pc .. The computer knows that there is a connection, but only gives a 169 address. Presumably because the switch cannot get to my dhcp ?I have tried connecting a serial cable to the switch top see if I can see any error, but when running Hyper Terminal I only get the white screen and can not see any POST etc.As far as I under stand it is a straight through cable, do I need a null modem cable to console onto the switch?

some of the servers are not pinging from one switch but they are pingable from other redundant distribution switch. So I took the IP addresses from the redundant switch, with that I found MAC addresses from the access switch.But when I tried to see to which ports these MAC are addresses are connected to, multiple MAC addresses are resolving to the same switchport. like 5 MAC's are showing to 1 port and other 3 MAC's are showing to other port, like this there are many. All these MAC's belong to virtual servers.

I am pretty new to Cisco - and I have a little 506E that I love. I got it working with my first scenario where I have one server that is my web, and e-mail server.I also opened the RDP port so I can remote into it. The IP's for the old server are internal 192.168.1.23 name ferbweb-external 71.12.111.219 name ferbwebpub. Now - I need to add another server in the exact same way with the same ports 80, 25, and 3389 open to the outside - IP's internal 192.168.1.31 name ferbmail and external 71.12.111.220 name ferbmailpub.I can get to all of these ports on the new server on the inside network - so that is not the problem.So, I went into the config, copied the statements for the old server, and changed them for the new server and added them to the config. I can still get to the old server from the outside fine, but cannot get to any ports on the the new server from the outside at all.I have done a lot of research, and cannot find what I am doing wrong.

I'm using a WRVS4400N and have all the proper ports open as well as the corresponding ones in the windows firewall. I've tested this with multiple port checkers online, such as grc.com. I've even go so far as to put one computer on a dmz and turn off the firewall on others. I've tested multiple ports on different computers. As well as from different remote gateways (other people's computers) just to see if it was a loopback problem.
I have the latest firmware installed and have done this from a clean install as well. This problem won't go away. My addy is nbcr [dot] dyndns.info if you'd like to have a test yourself and see that 118 is indeed closed.
I have an extensive computer repair background and run my own shop repairing computers, however networking is my weak area. Oh and its version 2.

How do FPS's open UDP ports without needing to configure the router to forward them?I never have to forward ports from my router to my PC. Every game i have somehow manages to open the UDP ports it needs without me having to configure my router. Yet when i check to see if those ports are open (prior to starting the programs) they always come back as blocked or closed. Now I'm currently working on a UDP Internet program and need to know how to do the same thing - open ports on a router without having to make the customer configure their routers. I'm THINKING that other programs start with a TCP/IP connection on the desired port and that opens the UDP port. Is this the answer or is there another method used?
