Cisco Switches :: SRW 2016 Not Showing Activity On Ports?
Apr 8, 2013
I have a Cisco / Linksys SRW 2016 switch, all was working fine. Powered off and powered back on a day later.Switch powered up and the system light lit.But non of the ports what had cables connected were active....If you connect a network cable to the switch and then a laptop / pc .. The computer knows that there is a connection, but only gives a 169 address. Presumably because the switch cannot get to my dhcp ?I have tried connecting a serial cable to the switch top see if I can see any error, but when running Hyper Terminal I only get the white screen and can not see any POST etc.As far as I under stand it is a straight through cable, do I need a null modem cable to console onto the switch?

I have a Linksys model WRT54GS2 with 4 ports, with Ethernet cables connected to ports 1 and 2. I have a laptop connected by wireless connection, with only an Xbox connected using Port 1 and occasionally port 2. Just recently, port 1 shows no activity. When connected to Xbox it doesn't display a check mark showing connection but does with port 2. I've connected it to port 3 and 4, which shows a check mark but won't connect to Xbox live. It's like port 2 only works, what I can do to "fix" ports 1, 3, and 4?

I am working on a request to clean up alot of excess cabling in one of our IDF's. I noticed that many of the connections have no lights on them and probably haven't been used in a long while. I would like to know if there is a CLI command I can run on the Cisco 3750 switch will allow me to bring up a list of ports which have not seen any activity for a period of time - for example, 30, 60, or 90 days.

we recently purchased a sg300-52. i was told i would need to setup a port trunk to connect it our main catalyst. However, i was able to connect a patch cable on the two devices and ping endpoint devices on both switches. I also noticed that the activity lights are constantly blinking. I'm not sure why. Is there something i can do to slow the activity light? it blicks constantly even in times of very low activity by the endpoint.

My previous setup was a ProSafe GS108 switch, 10/100 Dlink router/switch used only as a switch, and a DI-655 router/switch. With this setup, activity when I wasn't using any of my computers was zero. There would be no blinking activity lights.
I dumped the ProSafe and 10/100 switch, and use the DI-655 only for my internet uplink and wireless, and now have everything else plugged into a Cisco GS200 switch. There is activity now every two seconds. I presume this prevents the Green energy saving features from kicking in as the ports are in use.
What's the difference that's leading to all this activity that presumably wasn't there before?

I have an issue on an ASA 5510 that I have noticed today, when I am using the log viewer all of the information recorded only shows the high end source and destination ports. For example
Source IP 10.10.4.69
Source Port 59886
Destination IP 8.8.8.8
Destination Port 59866
So what seems to be happening is that I am seeing only half of the connection in the log viewer, I see the side with the high end ports and not the side with the ports the application uses, this example was done with a ping. All my services are working correctly and the client sending the ping gets the response expected, it just seems I have lost the logging display?

We have a WRT610N and are having trouble getting access out to the internet with an FTP client. We are trying to configure Sync2 a program from 4team.biz. It is an MS Outlook application that utilizes FTP servers to host .PST files (outlook data bases) for synchronization. The software has an FTP client built in that can access FTP accounts to store and synchronize the .PST file.
The issue is the WRT610N will not allow this client to connect to our FTP account. We had 4Team’s tech support working on it for a few hours. Ultimately they decided it was my router causing the problem. To demonstrate this to us, they tested ports 80, 21, & 22 utilizing the following websites: url...
All the ports showed either closed or not responding. How do I open these ports so that I can allow Sync2 to communicate with the our FTP account? We are hosting out FTP site at 1and1.com.

I got a static ip from my isp. I set up my static ip manually through my linksy router. I need the static ip to connect to a private network for my new job but cant connect to that network. I went to whatsmyip and found that my old dynamic ip is still showing up externally, it looks like my ip4 is using the dynamic as a preferred. My question is do i need to manually change the network connection on my LAN and wireless connection under ipv4 to change it from automatically obtain TO use the following address and put in my static? And do I have to change the DNS also? I am on a home network with one desktop on vista home premium and laptop windows 7.

We have several stacks of 3750 switches where this problem is occurring. All of the switches are running IOS version 12.2(50)SE3. (Yes, I know it's old.)
We're seeing inconsistency in how the stack reports members when issuing the following commands:
sow switch
show version
show inventory
Not all members are showing up in the output of the "show version" and "show inventory" commands. For example:
HUNTI-WV-WDAC03#sh switch
H/W Current
Switch# Role Mac Address Priority Version State

I volunteer at a school who just purchased two 48 port SGE2010 managed switches. I am not a big fan of the web gui and was hoping to see the standard Cisco command prompt instead of the menu-type interface.
Is there a way to view the MAC table showing which MAC address is plugged into which port on the switch? I have been fighting with the menu and the gui for a while now and do not see this anywhere.

How does the ESW 500 or SF300 line guarantee QoS of voice traffic when trunking switch to switch? I have (2) ESW 500 series switches in series. The phone on switch 1 have no audio issues, but the phones on switch 2 (the last in the series) have intermittent voice quality issues when dialing across a WAN circuit to another office. The phone on switch 1 do not have that issue though they traverse the same circuit. They are all using the same VLAN 100.

I just recently purchased an SG300 10 port switch. After reading through many of the threads here, I was finally able to get the different VLANs to route properly. However, I'm having a unique issue that I'm not sure if it's related to the switch or not. I currently have 2 VLANs configured on the switch.ports 1-4 are native vlan 1 (192.168.1.X) ports 5-7 are VLAN 10 192.168.10.X (Trunk Port with VLAN 1 tagged and VLAN 10 untagged)I have a Hyper-V server connected to both of these networks. The VMs are running on both VLANs on port 5. I have the following problem:When I have a domain controller VM on VLAN 10, I notice that many of the DC communications failed. I took a network trace and noticed that many of the RPC port ranges were failing. I am able to ping all of the hosts on VLAN1 and vice versa. My question is as follows:Does this switch have some type of security option that blocks high range ports? I can't seem to find the menu option indicating that this is the case. I have already set-up a NETBIOS UDP proxy, but this hasn't worked much. I still have problems connecting to machines on this VLAN range.

I just purchased an SG-300 52 port switch. I'm not sure I understand the use of the extra ports. To the right of the 48 ports are a group of 4 ports. Are these what is referred to as the four shared ports? In practical terms, if I wire the 48 ports to different rooms in our office, and I have two other devices at the rack I want to connect to the SG-300 (a cable modem and a NAS Drive), what port numbers should these two devices be connected to?

How do FPS's open UDP ports without needing to configure the router to forward them?I never have to forward ports from my router to my PC. Every game i have somehow manages to open the UDP ports it needs without me having to configure my router. Yet when i check to see if those ports are open (prior to starting the programs) they always come back as blocked or closed. Now I'm currently working on a UDP Internet program and need to know how to do the same thing - open ports on a router without having to make the customer configure their routers. I'm THINKING that other programs start with a TCP/IP connection on the desired port and that opens the UDP port. Is this the answer or is there another method used?

So, I spent some time this weekend troubleshooting the issues I've had with the new SG300-28P switch and POE to many of my devices in the office. As a recap, I cannot utilize all of the 24 POE ports on the switch for POE purposes. Really only every other port [with a few odd combinations thrown in between]. In addition, the SG300-28P switch, on occasion, is sending POE to non-POE devices [e.g. my Ruckus Zone Director 1106].
Here are my POE devices [all 802.3 af-compliant]: 3 Ruckus 7982 access points1 Pakedge access point2 home-automation controllers2 Polycom voip phones I called Cisco support several times in regards to this problem, and they figured it was a hardware issue - a faulty switch. So, Cisco sent me a replacement SG300-28P, which I hooked up today. The exact problem still occurs. Default configuration [fresh out of the box]. No way I can land, for example, the 3 Ruckus 7982 AP's on ports 1, 2, and 3 [or ports 1,13, and 2]. I have to put them on ports 1, 3, and 5 in order for them to power up. In addition, I can't plug any other POE devices on the ports either between or below them. I had to skip another port bay. This is very odd behavior!! Two Cisco SG300-28P's in a row with the same problem.
However, I also had one of the new Cisco SG300-10P switches in my possession for a recent project of ours. I decided to hook up the same POE devices to this switch. ALL POE devices were recognized and worked! No need to skip a port. And it didn't matter what device was plugged in first or not. I am now convinced that it is either a hardware issue [bad power supply/transformer?] inside all of the SG300-28P switches, or a firmware issue.
Both of the SG300-28P switches were running firmware 1.1.2 [the latest on Cisco's website]. So, I decided to install an older firmware version on the SG300-28P switch that I'm returning [installed 1.1.1.8]. Here's what I found out. I could then plug 2 POE devices [e.g. two Ruckus AP's] in adjacent horizontal ports, but not three in a row. In addition, not all adjacent ports. It's funky. For example, I could plug an access point in ports 20 and 21, but not in 21 and 22. No rhyme or reason in how it worked. And I still couldn't plug an access point in adjacent vertical ports [e.g. ports 1 and 13]. BUT...
It's interesting that the same exact switch that would not initially allow 2 horizontally-adjacent POE ports to be utilized WOULD allow 2 horizontally-adjacent POE ports to be utilized when running a different firmware version. It's also interesting to note that when plugged into a "non-working" POE port, the SG300-28P would actually make a small whining noise. Very subtle noise; I could hear it when approx. 1ft away from the switch. The noise was not noticeable when ports were skipped [and POE actually worked]. Therefore, I believe that Cisco has some SG300-28P firmware bugs [at least in the last two versions of firmware] that is not truly allowing all 24 ports to utilize POE correctly. This problem does not exist with the SG300-10P switch.
In addition, I'd like to know when they think a solution could be created if it's firmware-related. If hardware-related, I don't think I'll be recommending any 28P switches in our projects. Perhaps just the regular SG300-28 with a separate SG300-10P. It's a shame because the SG300-28P is more of a bargain when compared to the two separate components.
