Why is loop-back only working on ports forwarded in the Virtual Server section and not Port Forwarding or even DMZ? I have seen a post about loop-back on the DIR-655 from a while ago that had said to disable SPI and change NAT Endpoint to independent, I have done this and loop-back still doesn't work.
View 1 RepliesI've got an SG300-10P switch and am trying to use it to create a testing environment for a Fiber Test set. What I would like to do is get two hosts, A & B, plugged into ports 1 and 3 on the switch, to talk to each other, but forcing the traffic to be routed through the two Combo ports 9 & 10. Please see the attached diagram.I've attempted to configure two VLAN's, 10 and 20. Vlan 10 is used for traffic between Ports 1 and 9, Vlan 20 is used for traffic between Ports 3 and 10.I don't really care whether the traffic is tagged or untagged as it passes between ports 9 and 10.
I've tried various combinations of tagged/untagged ports, PVID's, etc. As a first test I've bypassed the Fiber Test set and simply created a direct connection between ports 9 and 10. I am unable to get the traffic from Host A to Host B to get routed through ports 9 and 10 (I ping each host from the other and get no response).
What is the purpose of loop back testing.

i have some problems to configure the port forwarding in my router, don't it work ! but the port number 80 it works with my sub-domain in the internet. after i change this port to 8080 still dont work the port forwarding. the FTP server its ok.

I don't do a lot of networking however during a cisco lesson the other day my lecturer briefly touched upon loop-back tests, would it be okay for somebody to very imply sum up exactly what loop-back tests do in a couple of lines and how they are carried out? (not in detail, so literally for example - a wire is put in from one end of the network to the other etc.) I don't really understand all the different wiring types etc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working with a device that does not have a physical reset button on it, and have mistakenly typed in 127.x.x.127 for it's IP. I was trying to use 172, but mistyped and didn't catch it until after I had rebooted the unit. Is there anyway that I might be able to gain access to the device. My PC is running Windows 7, but I am familiar with linux as well. I have attempted to change the loopback adapter IP to 128 on a ubuntu live disc and set my ethernet port to the subnet the device is on with no avail. (I am also using vlans on the device, but believe I have them set up correctly)the device is set to IP: 127.x.x.127 netmask 255.255.255.128. [code] I know that the last octet of 127 is the broadcast IP for the range, but have been able to address similar blunders before by forcing myself to a /24 subnet to correct that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced a client's router with a Cisco RV 120W. The client employs a web-based application on an internal server that manages their business. Workers in the field use a handheld device power by WIndows Mobile to access a mobile version of the the web-based app. Data contained on the mobile app syncronizes with the server when workers choose a sync menu. Some workers perform this sync in the field, others wait till they return to the office and use the wireless provided by the router. Prior to changing the router, the synching worked fine either inside or outside the company network. The mobile app accesses the internal server via the router's public IP address. The router forwards the http requests to the internal server. But now the synching does not work internally. I assume it's because the Cisco RV 120 W does not support NAT Loopback, or I simply haven't figured out how to enable it. Does anyone know how to enable NAT Loopback on the RV 120 W so I can access the web-based app by through the router's external IP while on the private side of the LAN??

I am trying to set up port forwarding on this router but it seems I need to use virtual servers but in all the guides there is a menu for this under the advance settings nat menu.I do not have that option, I have downloaded the latest firmware but still nothing.
I am terminating GRE vrf-lite on my 7600 and using loopback as source for each client.I found one problem where 7600 seems to be not forwarding traffic until I delete create the tunnel interface.Worked fine for a week. Then stopped again. I had to delete,create again tunnel interface.

The attached configuration files are for working configuration for typical GETVPN (crypto map applied on WAN interface)
In Key server configuration , the crypto isakmp command is using the WAN interface IP address of each WAN router (172.16.x.x) , and since that the KS routers are connected to local backbone (VSS) , they should be able to reach 172.16.X.X , and therefore the subnet 172.16.X.X is advertised to the local network (check GM configuration file under eigrp - redist connected )
This is what our customer want to avoid ! they do not want 172.16.X.X to be advertised to the local network .I know It is possible in GETVPN configuration to configure ,the crypto isakmp command to use loopback address's of the WAN routers instead of the WAN IP , but in this case the crypto map must be applied to the loopback address , and this requires all traffic to be encrypted and decrypted to go through the loopback interfaces on all WAN routers .

All routers are Cisco 886 routers which don't have L3 ports.That is why I used SVI interfaces, and have configured the L2 ports (Fa0, Fa1, etc.) with the command switchport access vlan.The problem is that I am receiving Invalid SPI error's only on the Hub router and I have no clue what could be the problem, because they use exactly the same parameters for IPsec. (Incidentally, PortForward.com gives me a blank page when I try to look up how to do this.) However, when I test the port is indeed open ( Open Port Check Tool - Test Port Forwarding on Your Router ), it returns as closed. Yes, I'm running the server software while I run the test. I only have the Windows Firewall, but I ran attempts while the firewall was completely disabled as well as with just the appropriate programs allowed.

I have an DLINK-dir 815 router.. I have tried for 10 hours to get broadcast IP to work, no luck.. All html/javascript modifications = no luck..The WOL works on LAN, but not over internet, so I figure it's the broadcast IP that needs to be virtual servered?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of 3750x switches that each have a 10 gig routed link back to a central 4507 (loopback = 172.30.255.255).We carved up a /24 (of course, the /24 doesn't really exist except in our address tracking spreadsheet) into a bunch of /30's for routed WAN links and /32's for loopback addresses.We started on the low end for /30 subnets (ie 172.30.255.0/30, 172.30.255.4/30, etc.).We started at the high end for the /32 loopbacks (ie 172.30.255.255/32, 172.30.255.254/32, etc.)
Well, when I try pinging 172.30.255.255 from the access layer 3750x switches, the 3750x seems to be treating it as a broadcast ping where it lists each member that responds instead of the regular !!!!! response (this makes think something is odd with the 3750x). Of course, only one member responds (the core). But even the core seems to respond with the other end of the /30 instead of the actual /32 loopback (which makes me think something is odd in the core). I could have sworn that I've setup similar topologies without problems (ie, using 10.0.0.0/32, 10.255.255.255/32, etc as loopbacks) and as long as the mask is a /32, it should work.Also, I can ping/ssh to that loopback if my laptop is on a directly connected subnet. But I can't do it from any of the 3750x switches (which are also directly connected).I've double checked for overlapping subnets, but nope. I don't see any. Routing looks fine. The actual /32 is being propagated everywhere properly.
The following error was seen on the switch and the Diagnostic Test Loop back failed following a new WS-6748-SFP module installation.Fabric in slot 5 detected excessive flow-control on channel 3 (Module 4, fabric connection 1)
Tried Hard reset of the module and still the error persist.
I wonder what the difference is between the virtual server and the port forwarding because the router I was using previously had only port forwarding. When should I use virtual server instead of port forwarding?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have DIR-601 wireless router with two computers connected: Server (192.168.1.2) and Client (192.168.1.3 on Ethernet Port and 192.168.1.4 on Wireless)
I also use dlinkddns.com and my router's public IP is mapped as abc.dlinkddns.com.
In the router Virtual Server section, it is configured as:
Public Port: 3389 (for Remote Desktop)
Private Port: 3389
IP Address: 192.168.1.2 (server's IP)
I am expecting this to allow the client to access the server via windows Remote Desktop.
The current situation is:
- When wireless is on, the client can access the server's Remote Desktop
- When wireless is off and client is connected by wired Ethernet, the client cannot connect to the server's remote desktop. After timeout, the error msg is "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: ...".
- When the client is in another network, it can connect to the server through the Internet.
I am sure it's not the client's problem because it can access via wireless or remotely from another network. It's not the router's virtual server config problem for the same reasons. Will it be a bug in the router? (hardware version: B1, firmware version: 2.00NA).
I have been using Linksys routers for quite some time now, and recently made a big upgrade from the WRT54G to the E3000. I am familiar with the 192.168.1.1 interface and its functionality. However, I recently noticed a problem: when I set a port to forward traffic to any IP address on my network and then check whether or not it is actually open (url...), I am told that the port is still closed. More interestingly still, the first port that I forwarded when I first got the router is listed as open, but the other half dozen or so are still considered closed. I have been trying to set up a file transfer protocol (FTP) server, but can't even get traffic to forward from port 21! I even tried using the pre-configured FTP drop down on the Applications & Gaming tab, but to no avail. Has anyone had similar issues, or perhaps an idea as to why only one port is forwarded when I have followed the same steps that I have been using for years?
I tried to get in touch with Technical Support about this issue, but was told that I needed to purchase a $30 subscription in order to qualify for assistance. I don't think that I should have to pay $30 to know why the same steps work with some ports but not with others.
I have a domain name which I register to my WAN address so I can do service hosting from my home network. I recently switched out my WRT54G running DDWRT with an EA2700. I set up my port forwards and static dhcp assignments and they are working from outside my network, but when I try any network operation involving my WAN address from my LAN machines, the connections just timeout.
I read in some posts that "you cannot do this" and "you have to test from a remote internet machine". Well, this WORKED with DDWRT, so it's not like it's impossible to make a router that does this. Why can't I do this with the EA2700? Is there some magic setting that will let this work??
The whole point of using a domain name is that I can access my services ANYWHERE using the convenient "name" thing.. genius, right? Except when I bring my laptop home and suddenly my domain goes non-responsive.
I have a client with a cisco 1841 router with a static public ip. He has 3 dvr's he wanted to acces from the internet and we opened the ports for the dvr's ip's. The issue were having is that only the first ip that we opened shows the port opened and works ok, the other 2 ip with their ports show closed.

We can see that 2691 and R4 are BGP neis and 2691 has 200.1.x.x routes in its route table. My question is why from 2691 router i am unable to ping any route learned by BGP from R4?

I have several ports opened on my DIR-655 A3, pointing to specific ports on a NAS server i have on my network.
I've already try this:
- Reboot the router
- Erase all Virtual Server Settings and try open only one port
- Re-flash the router with latest European firmware - 1.34b05EU
I've got a DIR-825 RevB Firmware V2.06NA on a static IP wan connection routing to a SBS2008 server and 10PC's. The server is serving mail, web, and files. Router has virtual servers setup for http, https, smtp, imap, imapssl, smtpssl, pptp, remote desktop, and a few others.
Everything works fine, but the routers https forwarding stops running periodically about half an hour after reboot. The server's working fine, but it doesn't see the https request, it looks like the router is trying to serve the 443 request itself. After a router reboot everything is back to normal.
I've replaced the router with another dir-825 and it has the same issue.
I am trying to configure a loop back interface like so: [URL], on the following device:

I am trying to have a virtual http server at port 80 but when I do this and save, I get this message: "Notice: The WAN HTTP port of CPE will be chaged to 8080 if submit successfully."Then after that I cannot access the server at port 80.
Just updated to the 1.01 firmware on my DIR-815 and now it doesn't handle loopbacks anymore.
For instance, I have a dyndns address of ericnewton76.dyndns.org. This points to my router. Works fine if you're NOT within the router's internal network, ie, outside hosts can get in just fine (try it... http:// , you'll see an IIS7 welcome screen)
However, when INSIDE the network, the requests don't get connected properly, and they used to... ie, I work with code, so my svn repo is at ericnewton76.dyndns.org/svn but inside my network it doesn't connect properly anymore (whereas it used to before firmware update)
So now I wish I could back-peddle to 1.0 firmware.
I've been looking into IGMP snooping and have read that a L2 switch will forward multicast traffic to all ports connected to an interested receiver AND all mrouter ports. In a L2 'V' topology this results in all multicast traffic routed onto a VLAN being forwarded to the 2nd distribution switch. My question is how should a 6500 Sup720 deal with this unwanted multicast traffic? Both a Local SPAN of the RP and a Netdr capture suggest that this traffic is punted to the RP and ultimately dropped. Is this expected behavior or should the traffic be dropped in H/W?

The printed, online, and in router manual says that there should be ALG section at the bottom, but as you can see there is nothing there. Is there any setting that makes the ALG section hidden?
