View 1 RepliesSometimes my wifi signal will randomly drop and I cannot browse the Internet. The network still appears on my computer and I can connect to it, however Internet pages will not load. This lasts for hours, sometimes days. If I unplug the modem from the router and connect directly to the modem via Ethernet, everything works fine! I have tried unplugging everything for 1 minute then plugging it back in and it does nothing.
View 2 Replies View Relateda link is added between Vail and Telluride in case if one of Aspen links fail to prevent AS 400 to become isolated. This link runs IBGP between both routers. Because this is an iBGP link, both routers will exchange BGP routes freely and automatically enters those routes into the routing table. Anyways, this link is advertised to OSPF through the BGP-to-OSPF redistribution. However, the book included that link in the OSPF configuration because as the book says "Without it, the iBGP session will not form" ... I did't get this part because the link is physical not logical between Vail and Telluride. Before the link was logical and the TCP session was performed through Aspen that's why we needed Aspen to know about this link. But now, it is physical so the iBGP (TCP) session should be formed without including that link in the OSPF config.

I purchased a wireless bridge D-Link DAP-1522 (IP fix 192.168.0.50) to share the Internet connection to two remote devices: WD TV Live HD (IP fix 192.168.0.52) and a Samsung BD P2500 player (IP fix 192.168.0.51: to try the BD-Live) but when I plug it into my network I have an IP conflict and I can not navigate anywhere, even by the computer which control the Netgear router (IP 192.168.0.1 DHCP range 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.49).
I tried with all fixed IP (192.168.0.xxx Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.0.1 DNS 192.168.0.1), but nothing to do, I have the same problem: after a few minutes after plugged the network cable into BD player the network falls. With wired connection (10 m of patch cable!!!) Samsung BD P2500 have no problem (DHCP and IP fix).
Then look closely in the information relating to devices connected to the Netgear router I noticed that all devices connected through the bridge DAP-1522 have the different IP but same MAC address and I think this could be the cause of the problem that creates the Blu Ray when it's connected to the network through the bridge, because he is not identified with any name but only as UNKNOWN as the bridge (a problem that WD Live not seen: same MAC address but is identified by name as WDTVLIVE).
How can I make the MAC addresses from the bridge will be recognized separately from my router/modem Netgear? In the settings of the bridge I noticed that you can enable or disable MAC address cloning, but if the off I would expect that cloning was not done and instead all the devices are identified by the Netgear router with the MAC address of the access bridge. The DAP-1522 masked the MAC address of device that are plugged into bridge. The router has the latest available firm while the original bridge has version 1.20 (the penultimate version available).
I have 2 sub nets within my office: 172.16.1.0/24 and 172.16.2.0/24. All devices on each subnet are wired independently from each other into the server closet. Previously each sub net had it's own switch in the closet to connect to that sub nets servers. We are replacing the 2 switches with a single Dell 2816 managed switch.
Is there a benefit to setting up the switch with 2 VLANs over just letting everything pass through the switch in un managed mode?
My only security concern is this: 1 sub net has access to the internet while the other does not. Does setting up 2 VLANs provide additional security by preventing 1 subnet from accessing the other? In other words, if a computer with internet access gets hacked will it being on one side of a VLAN prevent the hacker from accessing the other subnet?
i have intermittent connectivity on the 2nd router that was installed on the network in order to extend range. 2nd router is connected to the original wireless router by an ethernet cable.

In what order the 8 cables go into the octal plug. The cable is a X.21.DTE 8 LEAD OCTAL part No 72-1100-01. The cables are not in numerical order (as in 0 to 7 as per the serial ports). I'm trying to trace cables and don't have a spare cable to examine. So far I think the order is 0,4,5,1, 2,6,7,3?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am implementing traffic export on the WAN interface of my 3725 router. I use a dialer interface for PPPoE which is applied to the Fa0/0 interface. This dialer WAN interface has Zone Based Firewall, NAT Outside, ACLs applied to it, as well as IP Traffic Export for an IPS. In what order would each of these items process a packet? In other words, is the order something like ZBF, ACL, IP Traffic Export, then NAT? How would QoS fit into something like this as well? I am asking because I am wondering how much processing the packets receive before they are mirrored over to my IPS.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my 2811 router with an AC- IP power supply, and installed a HWIC-4ESW-POE, with an Inline Power Daughter Card (ILPM-4) installed on the HWIC.
The second I turned the router's power on, there was a spark and a burning smell. Everything still works, except POE. Examining the card, I see it caused a circuit on the ILPM-4 motherboard to blow, and there is black residue everywhere. This is a Genuine Cisco power supply, but why it's done this.
Furthermore, when the power supply was first installed, it had so much electricity (and I know this is why the card got toasted) that touching the end of the console cable or an Ethernet cable connected to the router, or even the router chassis, would cause you to get a small electric shock, like touching a mild electric fence. Clearly, the power supply I installed is "too-powerful", but it is a 2811-AC-IP and nothing should have caused this.

I have Centrino notebook, a Dell 600m. Most of the time I use WiFi with this notebook to communicate with the Internet and my desktop. However, when I want to backup my notebook to the desktop hard drive I prefer to use the 100 MBps speed instead of the 11 MBps speed of WiFi. I have setup the connections order in the Adapters and Bindings tab in the advanced menu item in the Network Connections such that the Local Area Connection (100 MBps) it above the Wireless Network Connection (11 MBps). Well, when I enable the Local Area Connection and plug it into my hub, a second little notification icon shows up in the indicating that the 100 MBps connection is active. When I perform the backup, both the wireless and wired connections show activity. Upon further investigation, I have found that data leaving my notebook is going via the wired connection data going to my notebook is using the WiFi network. Why is this and how can I have it use the wired connection for both upload and download?
By the way, I am using the built-in Windows XP networking software and am not using the Intel software.
