We have a router (7206) which connected to client device in /30 IP segment, but this device is a switch which connected to many more devices. Doing packet capture on our router interface unravel many ARP requests whcih comes from the client switch. Is there any feature or command which we can stop this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a 25Mbit connection comming in through a cable in the basement, going through a modem that is connected to a RVS4000 small buisness router on the first floor, that acts as the single NAT. Connected to that in parallel we have 4 wireless b/g or b/g/n routers of various cisco/linksys models, one for each floor, each with DHCP disabled.Over the last few months there have been some issues with the router and I'm curious if there is anything that can be done to solve them.The firmware of the router is the latest at the time of this writing, V2.0.2.7
1. The router will occasionally lock up and completely stop responding to DNS requests. Attempting to open a website will result in browsers giving their standard 'DNS Lookup Failure' messages. The router will also become completely non-responsive when trying to access it via its IP address (standard 192.168.1.1). No username/password dialog appears.However oddly enough IRC and other chats like skype will still work fine.Restoring Factory settings has not worked. This issue has gotten to the point where this happens about once a day. Restarting the router will fix the issue. While I think the issue may sometimes resolve itself, it could also just be one of the other people in the house restarting it manually.I'm assuming that the router is to blame here and not the cable modem in the basement or the DNS server of our ISP, mostly due to the fact that the router becomes unresponsive and won't let me log in as admin when this happens. also restarting the router, not the modem, seems to fix the issue.

Issues with some people hogging bandwidth With 25 people and a 25Mbit connection each person in the house should effectively get about 125KB/s of download speed, especially since not everyone is always using bandwidth. However it can happen where one person is, often without knowing it, hogging a large chunk of bandwidth and slowing the network down for everyone, such as downloading multiple large files from different sites, streaming high-quality video, etc.I would like to know if any of the following might be possible to do with this router: See the bandwidth usage per individual MAC or IP address on the network over timeLimit the amount of bandwidth a specific MAC or IP address can use. Make the distribution of bandwidth more fair when a few people are using far more of it than other people.
I have at times resorted to limiting P2P via IPS in the past, and of-course that does work somewhat, but that's not ideal. I'd much rather just know who is doing it, and specifically by how much they are slowing other people down. While the IPS page will list the IP addresses of those trying to use P2P when it's disabled, there is no way for me to really quantify how much bandwidth they'd be using otherwise, and this doesn't at all include things straight-up HTTP downloads.In any case, this router should easily be able to handle ~25 simultaneous connections, right? Are there any settings that I should make sure to enable or set to distribute bandwidth more fairly, given the setup we have?
4. The IPS report chart is not readable.This is a bit of a nit-pick, but the IPS report chart is basically not readable because the colors used in the key are identical in color. Can you tell the difference between the colors of 'Network Traffic' and 'Attack Counts' in the key at the top? They could have used any two colors that are at least somewhat distinguishable, even light grey and dark grey would have been better, not magenta and another magenta.

I have recently set up a linux SFTP server at my home and am trying to access it via my public ip (eg 1.1.1.1), the problem is this public IP goes to the router which doesnt pass on the requests to the server.Last summer when i first messed around with this i had no problems with using the public ip to access the server, its only recently.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a scenario with a Cisco 6506 and a 7206. The 6506 is running BGP and peers with our data center router. The 7206 is a stub router off the 6506 and is used as an edge router for customer T1 circuits. I want to use OSPF between the routers to exchange connected and static routes. The problem I have is that static BGP null routes on the 6506 are overriding the OSPF routes being received from the 7206. Example: The 6506 is advertising a class C network 192.168.1.0/24 to our data center. The 6506 does not utilize the 192.168.1.0/24 network. It is only used on the 7206 for customer T1 circuits and is carved up into /29 subnets. So the 6506 has a static route: ip route 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 null 0. Today the routing is accomplished with static routes on the 6506 for the 192.168.1.0 networks on the 7206. Using OSPF the 7206 advertises /29 links back to the 6506, but when I withdraw one of the /29 static routes from the 6506, the /24 null route takes precedence over the more specific /29 routes and the traffic is black-holed on the 6506. how can I get the OSPF routes to look preferable to the /24 null route on the 6506?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 2800 with one Gigabit interface connection to our Lan and the other interface connected to the internet with a public IP address. Now I'd like to setup the router to resolve both internal and external DNS requests. Thus requests like www.google.co.za and LocalLanPcName should be resolved to their public and private IP's respectively. [code] When I ping any name the only DNS server that is ever queried is 192.168.1.200 (it does resolve internal name correctly though).
None of the other servers are attempted to resolve the name. It does not matter if I specify a FQDN or not.
How do I setup the router so that my internal resolution is handled by 192.168.1.200 and .201, while external resolution is handled by 41.160.36 and .37. Or alternatively, how do I configure it to at least try all 4 specified name-servers for resolution, and not fail after trying the first one unsuccessfully.
We have a 7206 router which acts as a MPLS Hub router for around 100+ remote locations. Bandwidh at mpls hub(terminated on this router) is 50 Mbps.
We have noticed that Memory utilization in this router gradually increases and when it reaches 100% this router hangs. It happence in frequesncy of 10 days and we have to restart the router when memory is 100%.
CPU utilization is normal i.e below 20%, WAN bandwidth will never cross 30mbps.
We are running OSPF on this router
We could not able to upload an IOS for 7206 router with NPE-150 via xmodem as there was no image available in flash it is in rommon mode. But same can be done in 1841. So how to upload an image in flah for 7206 via xmodem.Where the IOS will be stored in 7206, wethet in flash or NPE. If it's in flash what for NPE used other than for routing engine capabilities.

I am trying to install a video camera and the instruction manual says under "known issues": LinkSys routers have a factory default setting in the firewall menu called "filter anonymous internet requests". If you want to access your camera from the internet you have to uncheck this option."I see this option in the WRT600N manual, but it references a software choice that I don't have.I have gone to the website and downloaded the latest compatible software version, and I still don't have the choice to uncheck this option.

I tried on two different routers below here and both also undergoing a cold restart when I key in the command "no ip flow egress" on the said interface

I have two computers in my house, one is set up directly to the modem/router and the other (in my room) is set up wireless using that belkin adapter above.
Everything has always worked perfectly, but two days ago things went haywire. If my PC connects to the wireless, then it makes the router stop working for the other computer and any wireless devices I have. As long as I don't have my PC connected, then things run smoothly and there are no problems, so it's definitely stemming from my PC?
I thought it might have been the router at first, so I switched it out and it worked fine for over 24 hours, but then the problem came back.

I cannot access its control panel, the network just goes kaput. Given that I don't have access to the router since it's part of a double house (the side I'm not on of course), this is getting beyond irritating to reboot it when this happens as that is the only way to fix it. The connections are even wired, too. What kind of money does it take to get a router that is going to STAY on and just work?
