Cisco WAN :: Shape Output Traffic 2821

Mar 8, 2012

I have a Cisco 2821 with ios Version 12.4(21). On that router I have a WAN link that is 550mbit dual. The interface is 1000FD so i need to shape my output traffic to max 550mbit - otherwise my ISP policing is dropping the traffic.

I've looked at this document url... and i'm trying to use this interface command:traffic-shape rate

But the router wont accept rate value 550000000 that should be 550mbit in bits/s

Is it not possible to shape the traffic to 550mbit on the 2821 router?

Cisco WAN :: 7206 VXR Configuration To Pass MPLS Traffic?

May 28, 2013

I have a 7206 VXR router between a several Mikrotik routers on our backbone.  We have the Mikrotiks on both sides of the CIsco 7206VXR setup for MPLS/VPLS.  I need to simply setup the 7206 to pass the MPLS/VPLS tagged packets to the next router on the link.  We are using OSPF as the routing protocol.  I am told by our Mikrotik guy that I just need to enable LDP and VPLS tunnels 4:0 on the 2 gig interfaces on the 7206VXR to let it pass the MPLS/VPLS traffic.  It sounds simple but I'm not sure how to do this.

Any commands I need to imput to allow this router to pass this MPLS/VPLS traffic.

The AP does not seem to have a way to detect that this is an IP Phone and to skip the challenge (as Cisco switches/routers would do) Is there any way around this? Can the remote LAN interface be configured to skip authentication for IP Phone and only authenticate PCs etc..?

Cisco WAN :: 2811 HWIC Switch Cannot Be Configured As A Network Interface

Apr 14, 2012

I currently have a Cisco 2621 powering a network at our  co-location facility... It's a simple setup and is working well. The colo  provides a redundant HSRP uplink, so I have their two uplinks going into  a Dell switch. From that Dell switch I have a uplink into  FastEthernet0/0 on the 2621, configured with my routing network, and  then FastEthernet0/1 gets an address from my block of routable IP. FastEthernet0/1 then plugs into another  Dell switch where I have all my servers connected. The servers get public routable IP addresses and use the address on FastEthernet0/1 as their default gateway.

It's time to upgrade off the 2621, so I aquired a Cisco 2811 which has two FE interfaces, as well as a modular HWIC-4ESW switch. My question is, can I get rid of the Dell Switch A in the setup above and just use the internal switch on the 2811 to accomplish the same thing? And I if I did this, would my two uplinks from the colo plug into ports 1 and 2 of that HWIC, and then port 3 would physically connect into FE 0/0? Or can I logically do that via configuration in the Cisco? I'm not sure how all this works and haven't received the new router yet, so I thought I'd get a head start and reach out to the experts.

My second question is unrelated, but each port on the HWIC switch cannot be configured as a network interface right? I'm pretty sure they can't as they aren't considered network interfaces but just thought I'd ask.

Cisco WAN :: 3825 Router Interface Does Not Pass Traffic

Mar 7, 2012

we have a Cisco 3825 router which does not work well with a DSL  modem(ISP provided). I have configured the Gi0/0 port of the router to  plug into this DSL modem but it does not ping to the ISP gateway. If we  do a shut/no shut on the interface then it work fine for about 30 secs.  Sometimes even for 1 hr. Then the packets drop and we cannot pass any  traffic through this interface.

Now, if the ISP connection is terminated on a computer it works fine. It works fine without dropping any packet.I  have tried various options like using a straight/cross cable. I have  tried to configure the interface negotiation for 100/full, 100/half,  auto/auto and almost all the options.I have also tried to interconnect the devices using a L2 device like a HUB. Nothing works.

Cisco Routers :: RV180W Routing Web Traffic To Router Interface?

Initially we had a rv110w in place and had problems with the port forwarding stopping a few times a day so we replaced with with a RV180W. Now port forwarding appears to be staying up, however I have a new problem. We host a web page, for some reason when an internal user points the url to the web page it resolves to the web interface of the Router and not the expected web page. If you are outside of the network it resolves to the correct web page. I am not sure why this is happening as it didn't happen with the RV110W or the PIX before that.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1000 / QoS Policies Don't Seem To Be Taking Effect

Mar 10, 2012

determine whether I have QoS properly setup on my router, and why the rules do not appear to be taking effect.ISSUE We have a couple of laptops, smartphones, and a Wii on our home network. One device, my roommate's laptop, is a real bandwidth hog. It's connected (via internet, not VPN) to a work server and is frequently downloading and syncing large datafiles and media files.Unfortunately, when that laptop is downloading the other devices either cannot connect to the internet without timing out, or is VERY slow, for example pulling up websites like google.com. When that laptop is offline, everything works fine. It seemed like enabling QoS would resolve our problem.\

SETUPLinksys E1000, latest firmware (v2.1.02), using WPA2-Personal security.

We first tried enabling QoS and setting the MAC address of the downloading laptop to "low" priority and all others to "medium". No luck - the downloading laptop still seems to be hoarding the bandwidth. We also tried adding the download application to the list and setting the port to "low". Still no luck.We added a new application called "web" and set port 80-81 to "high", but that didn't work.We then disabled WMM support. No dice. The other devices still can't connect while my roommatte's laptop is syncing. We've fiddled around with the settings a bit, but no matter what, it looks like the QoS rules are not being applied. And is it acceptable to have multiple categories (MAC and application) in the QoS rules?

Cisco WAN :: 6506 / 7206 - OSPF And BGP On Same Router?

Jan 18, 2012

I have a scenario with a Cisco 6506 and a 7206. The 6506 is running BGP and peers with our data center router. The 7206 is a stub router off the 6506 and is used as an edge router for customer T1 circuits. I want to use OSPF between the routers to exchange connected and static routes. The problem I have is that static BGP null routes on the 6506 are overriding the OSPF routes being received from the 7206. Example: The 6506 is advertising a class C network 192.168.1.0/24 to our data center. The 6506 does not utilize the 192.168.1.0/24 network. It is only used on the 7206 for customer T1 circuits and is carved up into /29 subnets. So the 6506 has a static route: ip route 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 null 0. Today the routing is accomplished with static routes on the 6506 for the 192.168.1.0 networks on the 7206. Using OSPF the 7206 advertises /29 links back to the 6506, but when I withdraw one of the /29 static routes from the 6506, the /24 null route takes precedence over the more specific /29 routes and the traffic is black-holed on the 6506. how can I get the OSPF routes to look preferable to the /24 null route on the 6506?

Cisco WAN :: 3825 - What Does Shape Average Percent Mean In QoS Policy

Jan 3, 2010

I am working at a client site that is an MPLS customer.  The customer has an MPLS circuit that runs between their Main HQ and their Disaster Recovery site.  I have been asked to analyze and report as well on the way the Qos Policy is written, and to provide any recommendations on how they can improve performance. There is a statement within the Qos Policy as it exists at each end on the 3825 routers.  The statement is called "shape average percent".  Here is the policy from one side:

policy-map QoS
class COS2_traffic
set dscp af31
shape average percent 12
bandwidth percent 13

[code]....

What does this statement mean and how is it different than the the "bandwidth percent" statement?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Inexpensive 881 Switch That Can Shape?

May 15, 2013

We currently "need" to shape certain services very specifically....we curently do this via routers for CE's (881's etc) i.e. 10Mb service, we need:

-class class-default
-shape average 9800000 40000 0

Some of our clients want to run firewalls as CE's that are unable to shape to this degree, so we are wanting to put an inexpensive switch in front of their CE to do the shaping for them(L2 - either per-port or per-vlan)...the ME3400 looks ok, but is quite expensive.

Cisco Infrastructure :: 185 / Traffic-shaping On The LAN Interface?

There is a remote server that downloads info from a server here at HQ. When the dowloads start the rxload on the S0/0/0 interface jumps to 98 percent or so; rxload 250/255. I needed to limit the bandwidth utilization between the servers, so I added the below line to the LAN interface on the remote router.By adding the command, it reduced the download utilization -which is what I wanted.

int f0/0
traffic-shape group 185 10000 8000 8000 1000

Question:How would applying this to the LAN interface cause the download utilization (Coming from s0/0/0) to decrease?
