DIR-655 - Router Randomly Deciding To Stop Working?
Apr 23, 2012
Once again I'm stuck to tethering on my phone due to my router deciding to call it quits for the random moment. I cannot access its control panel, the network just goes kaput. Given that I don't have access to the router since it's part of a double house (the side I'm not on of course), this is getting beyond irritating to reboot it when this happens as that is the only way to fix it. The connections are even wired, too. What kind of money does it take to get a router that is going to STAY on and just work? I'm ready to dump some serious cash into this at this point because this happens at least twice a week anymore. I just want a router that works. It needs to be wireless as my neighbor does use his kindle on it every once and a while.
Roughly once an hour my games will simply just stop responding, most notably on League of Legends everything else continues to happen around me uninterrupted but I cannot move my character nor can I use any abilities for about ~4 seconds and will do the same for literally every online game I have played. It doesn't seem to cut out my internet but when it happens on occasion it will crash a Skype call for about the same duration the unresponsiveness occurs.I have Optimum Online and a Linksys wired router with Windows 7.
I have two computers in my house, one is set up directly to the modem/router and the other (in my room) is set up wireless using that belkin adapter above.
Everything has always worked perfectly, but two days ago things went haywire. If my PC connects to the wireless, then it makes the router stop working for the other computer and any wireless devices I have. As long as I don't have my PC connected, then things run smoothly and there are no problems, so it's definitely stemming from my PC?
I thought it might have been the router at first, so I switched it out and it worked fine for over 24 hours, but then the problem came back.

After some research, I noticed I'm having the same problem with my Inspiron N4010's wireless card as mentioned in this post. I purchased this laptop refurbished from the Dell Outlet store over a year ago.
Yes, I have tried re-installing the drivers, the BIOS is updated, and no I am not pressing that key when the wireless card randomly disables. Normally it will re-enable after a few minutes or if I keep pressing that key it may re-enable. Sometimes it will take a restart for it to re-enable.
This is a completely random problem too. I am unable to reproduce the problem.
I am just about ready to replace the card and see if that works (the laptop is out of warranty and I'm comfortable inside of a laptop so that is not an issue).
Randomly my router stopped working in the middle of the night. I didn't think the issue was with the router so i called the Tech Support people from Brighthouse and they told me to connect directly to the modem so i did that and I had internet. But why would my router randomly stop working, I've had this Linksys Dual N bound router for a year and never had a problem with it. I want to think that its the internet providers fault but I guess I really don't know.
After an hour on the phone with the Linxys support people I'm feeling like I've been scammed.I have a 2 year old, almost to the day, Linxys Wireless-N Broadband Router, model # WRT160NVZ, which decided to stop working today. I contacted Linxys support and was told since it is 2 years old it's no longer under warranty, ok. If I choose I can pay for a service call and the tech may be able to fix the router, no guarantee. I had another option to purchase a service plan but again no guarantee repairing the router. My third option was to purchase a brand new wireless router for a discounted price, if I chose this option the tech would attempt to repair the router at no charge. I expressed my concern that it would take a few days to receive the new router and what would I do while waiting. I was then assured the router I have now could be repaired and would be able to hold me over until I received the new router. So I chose the 3rd option purchasing a M20 wireless router to be shipped to me within 3 days. After providing my credit card number and billing/shipping address the technician was now able to work with me in trying to repair the current router. He had me access the Linxys website, he instructed me in resetting the router and resetting the settings for it on the website and PRESTO, my 2 year old router now works again.but feel that this is a scam, programmed in the router to occur within 2 years of purchasing where the settings entered no longer work but once changed works perfectly well.
I've lost connectivity with all but one of the ethernet ports on my E4200 router. My desktop PC was connected to Port 1 but stopped working. Network troubleshooting via my Windows 7 Dell 8300 said I was not connected and to check the cable. I did that with several different cables and tried the usual router and modem reset. Only through trial and error did I find that I could connect to port 4 which is why I am able to write this post. What could have changed to disable ports 1-3 and can I get them working again? No issues with wireless connectivity.
I received a Linksys E1200 from a friend who careless tried to upload an incorrect configuration. After that the device became use full. It don't work at all.
Router randomly stops working and sometimes reconnects by it self and sometimes I have to manual reset the router. Also I only get 2-3 bars wireless. Is my router not configured properly or damaged?
My DIR-655 wireless router randomly quit working. It was plugged into my modem and working great, then it just stopped. I restarted my modem and router, but the "Ethernet" light on my modem does NOT shine when plugged into the router.
I'm sure that the modem is fine, as I have it connected to my PC right now. I also tried it with my friend's wireless router - works fine.
I believe this may be hardware-related. I have tried restoring the router to factory settings and then setting up everything again: No luck.
I haven't had this router for long! Just a little over two years I believe (or it may be just a little over one). I have another wireless router somewhere that's 6-7 years old and still works. If it is hardware related (as in the router just randomly broke), then rest assured I will not be purchasing another D-Link router in the future.
We currently support a third party VOIP software. Recently we have had issues with our T38 faxing to our SIP Trunk provider because our FW (sonicwall) doesn't support Nating the connection address within the SDP packet of the T.38 reinvite. This has caused us to look at alternate solutions. I have been in discussion with CISCO sales engineers and can't get a straight answer on which one of their products support this(RFC 3362, T.38 protocol used by our VOIP server)We were looking at replacing our sonicwall with an ASA but it seems it doesn't support RFC 3362 either . However, the sales engineer thinks that their regular routers will. So If I purchase a cisco router, i.e 8xx or 2621XM the question is where do I put it in my current topograpy. Currently we our at a Datacenter and our drop into our cabinet comes right into the Sonicwall and we have all NAT handled there, routing to different LAN ports on the Sonicwall. On LAN side all we have are standard switches supporting all of our Servers.
If I buy a Cisco router to handle my NAT issue for faxing.Do I put it on the WAN or LAN side of my FW?Do I setup the router to handle all of my NATing or just the NATing of my VOIP server that is having issues with the T.38? Would I need a Sonicwall FW if I purchased a CISCO 891?
I just bought the E4200 routher at best buy a few weeks ago. I got it all setup how I want it. Its been working fine then about a day ago it started to stop working at random. All internet just stops working. Wired and Wifi. I have to either wait for it to work again or restart the router.
wrt54g v1.1 After setting up the wireless router, I can use the internet on the pc as well as a wireless device. However after putting my pc in standby mode then back on, I can no longer connect to either. I have to restore factory defaults each time and re-enter all passwords and settings.
Yesterday my wireless internet just appeared to stop working completely, it has always worked fine up unti now!I have checked all the usual issues, it is nothing to do with my router as i can use other laptops/desktops to access the internet fine.I am using a Pavillion DV6-1215sa which has a Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter. It has full strenght but just says Limited Connectivity, so it is picking up the wireless network but wont actually let me connect to the internet via it.
I am able to access the internet when i hard wire the ethernet cable into my laptop, but the just wont work for wireless.I have tried lots of different suggestions so far, but still cannot access the internet.
Whenever I start a Cisco VPN from any machine on the network, DNS requests to the DIR-655 stop working. If I reboot the router, DNS starts working again (the VPN was left on). Why starting the Cisco VPN would freak out the router?
I'm trying to get a static IP because I'm hosting a team fortress 2 server. So on windows, I made my internal IP static and that worked. On my router(cisco EPC 3925) you can go to administration ,then management and it says connection mode: DHCP which you can change to Static IP. When you change it to static IP it askes you:[CODE]
I have installed VM ware v Sphere Enterprise Plus 5.0.0 and created a VM using an OVA file with LMS 4.1 running in Linux. It was working good since 3 weeks ago and I was adding snmp server configuration in all my devices (routers/switches) and suddenly one day DCR Server process stop working. I was trying the following actions:
1.- dmgtd stop -> to stop daemons 2.- dmgtd start -> to start again the daemons
And the DCR Server does n´t start up automatic.
Then I try this:
1.- pdexe DCR Server
And show this message:
[CPLMSCOL01/root-ade ~]# pd exec DCR Server ERROR:Get reply from server failed:
I have setup a Cisco SR520W and everything appears to be working. After a few hours, it looks like the WAN port stops forwarding traffic to the Internet gateway IP of the device.
If I unplug and then plug in the network cable connecting the WAN port of the SR520W to my the modem, traffic startings flowing again. Also, if I restart the SR520W, the traffic will flow again.
Here is my config file:

i've one of my 3500 that when finish to download the os, the front led stop working. During the power on and all the test the led is flashing in various colors pretty ipnotizing :-) When it bacame operative, the led stops. If i issue the test led flashing console command it works.
I'll be downloading off of newsgroups and be pulling 3-4 MB/sec, no problems. My downloads are charted so I can see my speed never drops at all.but my web browsing will just STOP, for ~30 seconds. I'll have multiple tabs just STOP and crap out, while my downloads run fine. This also happens when I'm not downloading, so I know it's not a bandwidth issue,i assumed it was a router issue until I replaced my router and am getting the same issue.
I know about recomendation to update a system software! Here is my software version and rdp plug-in version: asa843-k8.bin, rdp-plugin.120424.I also tried to use previous version of rdp plug-ins, but connection through RDP still not work normally! 90 percent of the attempts to give a black screen.
I recently built a new computer and it runs a wired connection. I was having problems with dns dropping.until i set static ip and dns. But now whenever my computer is on my router doesn't broadcast a wireless signal and none of my devices can connect to wireless until I turn off my computer. The router is a linksys wrt54g2

after year and a half of using TL-WR741 ND router, it suddenly stop working during the night. I have no problems with router before this happened (I think only one or two reset in 1 year and 6 months). System led light does not flash (some sytem error) and I can't access to 192.168.1.1 router setup site. I tried almost everything, unplug power, reset etc. for almost 100 times, reconnect the router with modem and PC in all posible ways, but still can't establish connection or even access to router's setup. Obviusly internet works fine?
I am using a dell Vostro 3550 series, window 7 which I recently upgraded it to 64 bit from 32 bit and after that my Intel WiFi utility stop working. I can create the WiFi hot spot and connect my phones and laptops but its not sharing the internet. I've checked the "share my internet" button too but still then its the same result.
We are in the process of upgrading the bandwidth at a few offices. Each currently have a 2xT-1 connection but have high utilization on the circuit which is why they are being upgraded. We are trying to decide b/t either a partial DS3 or metro ethernet connection. Are there pros/cons b/t the two in order to decide which to go with? Cost is not an issue. Some say going with a partial DS3 circuit offers benefits over metro ethernet such as network-based failover, end-to-end availability is better with DS-3 and QoS.
Perhaps once a week my ethernet port stops working. That is, it is still displayed as 'working properly' in the device management screen, but it is unable to connect to dns. System restore does not solve this problem. plugging the ethernet cable in and out (10 times) does not solve this problem. Modem reset does not solve this problem either. I decided that perhaps ethernet controller is faulty, or perhaps the ethernet port in itself- so I bought a 'usb to ethernet' adaptor and surprisingly the internet connection problem persisted (during the instances when my laptop ethernet port had problems connecting to DNS, the adaptor was also unable to connect to internet).
What does solve this problem is this: I have another notebook - I plug the ethernet cable into that computer. Obviously, internet works without any problems with my second notebook. After that, I plug the ethernet cable back into the laptop which is now unable to connect to DNS. Quite often the Not being able to connect to DNS issue still remains the first time I do this, so I have to connect ethernet cable back into my second notebook and then plug it back into the notebook with a connectivity problem. After I do this 2 or 3 times, my windows 7 laptop is finally able to connect to internet.
Few days ago the wireless in my son's Dell Inspiron 620 went bad. It does connect to my old router (WEP), but speed is terrible and connection goes bad after some time. I can also see my modern router and enter the key successfully (WPA2), but it won't connect. Connection to both routers went well for months before, and still goes well from all other devices in the house.
I read the issue with McAfee that was posted late August and followed the steps. Connection in safe mode didn't work. Then I removed McAfee from the PC, no difference. Then I restored the PC to a couple of days before the issues began, removed McAfee again (as it came back through the restore), no difference.
I reinstalled the drivers of the Dell wireless card, no difference.
I recently upgraded my home network to include a new DOCIS 3 cable modem (SB 6121), RV 180 router, and a wireless access point. I have about 7 computers/devices on the network. A computer connected directly to the new modem was pulling down 30MB/sec (various speed tests), but when RV 180 was inserted between modem and network, downloads dropped to 10MB/sec. I worked with tech support (very kind), baselined the router, without improvement, and support conclusion was "hardware issue, need to RMA router".The one thing we failed to configure on the router was the Domain Name (Networking/LAN/IPv4 (local network)/DHCP/Domain Name:). Once I entered the domain name that actually matched the Workgroup / Domain name of the computers on the network, downloads and speed tests jumped to 30MB/sec consistently, and web browsing performance significantly improved.
I'm not very experienced in ASA failover designs, have over the years worked with 5505 & 5510's. With two 5520 on my hands right now I need to decide on the best failover design to meet the goal. The ASA group needs to provide VPN (site-site and support Cisco old fashioned VPN clients) and also serve as an internet facing firewall. Not many interfaces will be created. Would active/active failover be a possible configuration considering the VPN setup? Can active/active be used to let one 5520 performance deal with VPN and the other handle the firewall (until failover occurs where one would handle both jobs)?
I'm having problems connecting to the Internet using the wireless adaptor - it will connect initially but the connection is very very slow and then will eventually drop out and stop working. When I connect using an Ethernet cable, there are no problems whatsoever so I know it is not a service provider issue.I have updated the BIOS to A11 and all drivers are up to date. The wireless adaptor is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030. [code]
My 3rd day with my newly bought All-In-One 2320 i7, 2TB, 8MB...This is the seond issue I found on this machine:Browse iplayer page, choose a video to watch, but...when viewing video from iplayer in IE, browser stop working. The whole page freeze.Same thing happened on youtube.
Things I have tried:
- Test it in Firefox. Same result. So bad.
- Update my flash player, java,..etc.
What else can I do? So dissapointed. I have promissed my son to show him the cbb animation cartoon on my new computer (big screen)..
