A broadband speed test take before the Cisco 2611 shows 25+ Mbps. After the 2611, it drops to under 6. Consistently. The router routes between the local LAN (10.80.0.3) and a remote building across (10.13.0.2) a T1. The ADSL internet connection enters this router and leaves to a Cisco 3550 switch.
View 13 RepliesI am with Virgin media and have a home lab (2611 routers, 3550 switches, 2950s etc) which i usually just use for testing things on and practicing.
Now I tried to connect it to the internet and got some weird things happening.
I got NAT and DHCP client all setup correctly on the router (or so I think!) along with DNS settings but I still can't get Internet access.
My network is all setup right so that through using OSPF the router is the gateway (0.0.0.0 route) for all devices. Doing a traceroute confirms this.
Yet I never get any further than the router? I see IP nat translations ticking up as I send more requests but never get a webpage or a reply from any of the machines in my network.
HOWEVER... The router itself does get some replies from Google.co.uk and bbc.co.uk but doesn't seem to want to give anything else on the "inside" a response?

Are the users' download speeds depend on the hosting company's owner's internet speed? Let say if I was running my own server with my internet speed 1mb and LAN 100mbps, are my clients' download speeds restricted to maximum 1mb of any content from my server?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was given an old Cisco 2611 to screw around with, no idea if it's working or not and no idea if the configs and passwords were wiped. Now my problem is that when I turn it on I don't see any console output at all.
Using 9600 baud, 1 stop bit, 8 data bits, no parity or flow control.
The power LED comes on and the activity light blinks for ~1 - 2 minutes before stopping. If I plug something into one of the Ethernet ports on the back the link light comes on for the port and the activity light occasionally flashes, from DHCP probes or something from my netbook I assume.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect my Cisco lab to the internet. I've configured my 2611 to accept DHCP. I can ping the Linksys E1000 router but can't ping the modem on the other side, and cannot get out to the internet with the PC that's connected to the lab. When I look at the DHCP table in the E1000 the 2611 shows up in the table. I can ping all other computers on the lan, just not the modem to get out to the net.I have the configuration for the 2611. Did I miss something. Is the modem blocking ICMP traffic?

I have a wireless access point, I want to be able to hand out addresses via the Cisco router through DHCP on the interface eth0/1. The wireless users that get an IP I want then route out the eth0/0 interface to my statically assigned default gateway. Right now Im not concerned with setting up security measures once this works I'll go back in and add that. Here is my running-config. Right now nothing from the 10.0.0.0 is being routed out to the internet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy home lab is in a different room than the cable modem. I have a wireless N router in the room with the cable modem. I have a wireless access point that is connected to a Cisco 2611XM routers fa0/0 interface. The 2611 accepts the DHCP address from the wireless router. However, I can't ping past the wireless LAN 192.168.10.0 network. I know with the wireless router it's two layers of DHCP. Should remove the DHCP settings from the wireless router? The wireless router is a TrendNet TEW-651BR. I can ping my iphone or any device conntected to the wireless router. And my laptop can ping default gateway of the wireless router, which I assume is the cable modem, however the 2611 cannot. So I'm assuming that's why the hosts behind the 2611 can't get to the internet. I followed the below instructions. I know the instructions don't assume your using a wirelss router between 2611 and the cable modem. But, I really don't want to run a cable to the cable modem.

Other computers in the house are fine with wireless and the direct connection.This computer I am working on is the one directly connected (not wireless).I tried the connection on other computers and it works.When troubleshooting, it indicates it lost the drivers so we downloaded the correct drivers and installed them on the computer. It indicates it has the updated drivers now. Funny thing is when you start of the computer the error message on the screen is Installation or Upgrade Error A problem occurred during the upgrade process.you must restart your computer. After it restarts, the Webroot upgrade resumes.I am concerned as my daughters computer has the same error message but her Internet connection still works.Seemed to me that Webroot could be a potential problem. Since we can't download the latest version (no internet and can't use disc we have as it tells us it is outdated) I tried to uninstall using WMPinfo.xml to finish the uninstall.I got an error that indicated - "The InstallAware Wizard for Webroot Software has failed: "WRConsumerService stop failed with error 2 and kill failed with error 128". It was taking a while to load. After about a minute a page finally came up that said "Server not found" (I use firefox). I can't get on any websites now and I can't get internet on any of my wireless devices either. When I right clicked my network icon on the toolbar and clicked on diagnose and repair it said "There may be a problem with the DNS. Windows attempted to find the well known host www.microsoft.com using dns. The server responded that the name was unknown." I have Windows Vista. Now I have no idea what I could have done. View 14 Replies View RelatedA week ago this laptop was working fine. However, now it will not connect via wireless to the internet. It says that it connects to the router but not the internet. I can connect to the internet if I use the wired LAN connection. I tried a restore to two weeks ago (when it was working) and it did not solve the problem. I do see in the wireless network connection status that IPv4 connectivity = local and IPv6 connectivity = local. While on another laptop (that is working and connects to the same wireless router) the IPv4 = internet and IPv6 = no network access. I think this may be the issue, but am unable to find out how to change them.

I dont have an internet connection through my computer. This one tells me error 106. I have 3 computers hooked through the same router. So, I know I have internet, as I am writing this now. I have a Cisco ASA 5520 that we was working properly. I tried to create a VPN IPSEC to test but when I finished the wizard I lost the conection between the inside interface and outside. I use other interface for DMZ and other for printers network but this adapters are working properly. I have reviewed the NAT's and the ACL's but I don't see the problem?

I followed this guide [TUT] Setting a static internal IP (Windows and Linux)but what has happened is that now the two machines can't connect to the internet.
I have just turned my PC on to find that i have lost connection to the internet through my desktop PC. I am using the wired connection to my router, and i also have my xbox connected to the router which is working ok too. My laptop also works when connecting to the router both wired and wirelesly.
My network adaptor on my desktop is a Nvidia nForce, i have tried updating the driver on this to no avail. Next i tried to ping the router but i get PING Transmit faild, error code 1231. I ran IPCONFIG /all and found that i had no default gateway set, and also it was saying that the ethernet adaptor was : Media Unoperational, but since i rebooted both the pc and router the media unoperational tag has gone.
On the network and sharing page it shows i am connected to an unidenfied network but there is a cross through the internet. It also says the access and Connection for the unitentified network are Local only.

Everything was working fine as always - then while I was in my Network and Sharing Center, and clicked on my ethernet connection, 'Local Area Connection 3', I accidentally disabled it. No big deal I thought, so I re-enabled the connection. Except for some reason, my connection is all screwed up now. The name of this connection was and always has been 'dkm2' and now it just says 'Network', with no internet access. I have unplugged the cord and plugged it into this laptop and it immediately recognizes 'dkm2' and connects flawlessly, so I know the problem is on the desktop computer's end, and not the cable or router. I have tried reinstalling the ethernet adapter, as well as reinstalling/updating all drivers for it.The network diagnostic tool turns up with a message that says the connection between either my ethernet adapter or router and the Internet is broken. No matter what I seem to try, I can't get my connection to go back to it's normal 'dkm2' connection and stop giving me a generic, disconnected 'Network'. I can't figure out what could have changed. All that happened was the disabling and enabling of Local Area Connection 3.
